I picked their brains while browsing the crystals and they were more than happy to share their knowledge and personal experience. You can tell their employees have practical knowledge and aren't just reciting information from cards. There are also "mystery bags" available near the front counter, which another customer recommended. They are available in $20, $50, and $100 price points and hold more value than their respective prices. I plan to check one out when I get the chance. I purchased an array of products, and they seemed fairly priced and of good quality. Overall, this shop is worth a stop if you're looking for crystals, incense, smudge sticks, or anything spiritual or metaphysical.

My obsession proved a bit unhealthy, since I resorted to buying cheap candles since I went through them so fast, and that created a sooty environment in my home that I was not happy with. My husband and I ran across the FIG Candle Company and its lovely owner in the fall of 2011, at the St Charles Scarecrow Fest. The booth was just about ready to close down, when we walked by and asked about prices. The owner was lovely, sweet, helpful and welcoming, even though she was getting ready to go. She took us through candle fragrances, containers, even a background on wicks. What sold us is that the candles were made of soy, so they gave off a clean burn, and that was important for me because I was pregnant and wanted the air to be as clean as possible. We bought two petal pot ceramic containers and another smaller set as gifts. The prices are comparable to Yankee Candle Company, but burn cleaner, and you have to love a small business! Since them, I have asked my family to get me candles from FIG, most recently in the past two weeks. Truly, I am so so pleased with the candles, the service and the lovely owner. I will continue to return and encourage any candle fans to do the same!

Big box stores have pretty much everything you need, but navigating the aisles is a nightmare. You could circle the store three times before you find what you're looking for. So when I was given the task of buying some scrapbook material for a friend's wedding shower, I was absolutely dreading going to the store. That is, until I remembered passing by this store on a recent walk. Hoping I didn't have to go anywhere else, I stopped inside. It's like a scrapbooking heaven in there. Plenty of different papers, stamps, stickers, tape and anything else related to scrapbooking that you can think of. Of course, I had no idea what the "right" thing to get was, but luckily the woman behind the counter was super helpful. I told her what I needed and she helped me out, explaining what each thingamabob does and what would work best. She saved me like 20 minutes of staring at this stuff and looking like a doofus. She also saved me a trip to the big box store. Hooray! If you're looking for scrapbook stuff, I highly recommend stopping here first. It's a small shop, but they have a lot of stuff and you'll get attention from the staff instead of trying to hunt someone down. Check the hours before you go, because they close different hours each day.
