We asked to have a room converted back into a bedroom after the previous owner had tore it down. They said it was a very simple job, put up a few walls, hang a door, etc. and that it would take 5-7 days to complete. Handyman hires subcontractors and assigns them to a job, we were assigned Ro. He was very nice and had a good personality, but was extremely unprofessional, always late, skipped days without notice, quality of work was very poor, always lied, over promised, under delivered. The total length of the project was over 8 and a half weeks. 40 business days or 56 days of people in and out of our home, which was far more than 5-7 days. Each week we received a note that stated it would be completed by end of week, which was a lie each time. Job started 4/8 - Job ended 6/4 Ro would have random people at our home on any given day, some of which I'm not sure if they were licensed as he claimed one person was his "brother" and that gentleman seemed like he didn't know what he was doing. Example would be this man painted all of the was with paint that had no primer in it and did not primer first. So the following day when it dried, the paint started to flake and peel off in chunks. Ro would also leave piles of trash at our house and construction debris in our walkway, which in our contract it said he would take it every night. Did not mask off the room correctly, got dust in every crevice of our home, and made it impossible to walk through with the way he hung it. In total we had about 12+ people (contractors?) work on a job that was claimed to be simple and only take a few days to complete. Durning these agonizing 8+ weeks, I was in contact with Travis the owner. I was expressing constant frustrations and concern of quality of work. He would always over promise and under deliver, along with zero follow up. For the duration of the job I felt as though I was the project manager on his behalf. It wasn't until his GM Jeff returned from vacation and I demanded and in person conversation that Ro was removed from the job and the rework began on all of the things he messed up. Jeff was good to work with and has much better communication. But anything is better than almost nothing. Rework was as followed: Door was framed wrong and had to be removed and replaced All walls needed to be skim coated (they did this close to 6 times?) walls still uneven. Floor had to be torn out and redone a floor guy laughed at how bad it was done the first time Baseboards were removed and replaced but have gaps everywhere. Drywall damaged after install, replaced and fixed Fan was wired incorrectly causing the circuit to trip All the door trim was installed with wood screws and was over filled with too much wood fill A bunch of damage happened to things unrelated to the job that I asked them to fix. They painted 3 times as they kept having to fix things I'm sure other things but this was all I documented After all the rework and continuing quality issues of work being done we told Travis and Jeff that it was fine to call the job "completed" and please cut us an invoice. Even with us not being satisfied with the finished product, we wanted them out and our home back. We received a muddy invoice that we had to verify as it was a mess, once confirmed we paid it and moved on with our lives. Now everyday I look at that part of my house in regret of hiring this company. I'm writing this review in hopes that you can avoid what we went through and I would encourage you will find a better company to work with, as we have. Here are some pictures of the issues durning that caused rework along with the "finished product" I would not recommend them in the least bit.

Paid to have squishy floor shored up. B team put down real thin plywood. I brought it to his attention and asked to remove it and put down thicker, more solid plywood, but he just put down another thin sheet. B team assured me it would be fine. LVP installed and bathroom done, and my floor is still squishy and LVP is separating and cracking in spots. That said they were the only ones I could find who would do subfloor repair, so that's something.

I was very excited to work with them. Xavier was very friendly. Before I had even agreed to hire them, they were working. Getting architectural plans and even helping to build a shed in my backyard in their spare time, to remove all of the items in the garage. At the time, I didn't see it as fishy...now I wonder. Before signing the contract, Xavier and I had to go back and forth, at least 5 times, to make changes. Finally, when we agreed and I signed, I was to pay 33% to begin the project. Xavier was desperate for the money, so wanted me to do an instant wire transfer. For some reason my bank flagged this. So we canceled and I sent a bill payment online. This too was flagged. I went into my bank ready to question why this kept happening. First thing they asked me was...have you researched this company? Well...yes a little. Clearly not enough. Here's where I will break it down for you, so you can make your choice about whether or not you'd like to work w/ this company. 1. Prior to November of 2020, this company was called Marcus Construction & Development (I encourage you to Yelp this company and read reviews). 2. This company is licensed in Arizona. Not Washington (no idea why). 3. This company, after changing its name, had to re-apply for their license in February of 2021. 4. Check BBB. Do a simple web search for Modern Solutions Construction LLC and see what it brings up. If you see the names Malachi and/or Xavier...those two run this company and that is accurate. 5. The website they have listed here is bunk. They have no website. Look for Marcus Construction & Development's website. They have one. After the things I learned, I amicably attempted to let the company go and offer to pay for the costs accrued as of current, in good faith. In return I was given screen grabs of amounts out of their account. When I asked for a detailed invoice, I was threatened. Xavier said he'd come to my yard to take materials he'd paid for (there were none) and put my house under a lien. He also threatened an attorney. This situation is still pending. I have filed a police report and opened a claim with the WA State Attorney General to have them investigated. But I wanted to get this out there for all that are currently considering this company. You don't have to believe me, but please just do your due diligence before you hire them.

He gave me a very calm and reassuring feeling from day one, explained every step of the process clearly, and kept everything organized and on track. At that meeting, we were told we needed to install flooring under the cabinets. After speaking with a contracting friend and two other companies, everyone said that was incorrect. This led me to doubt their professional knowledge and expertise. After the initial meeting, everything started going by the wayside. They missed appointments, were hard to get a hold of, and changed their story. We went from picking out materials to needing another appointment for the contractor to see the home. During the second appointment for measuring and seeing the home, they "measured" by measuring at an extreme angle. The contractor, in charge of demolishing our kitchen, demonstrated no knowledge in how to properly measure (it was NOT an area needing an angle to measure). That was concerning. They also didn't know the business hours of their own vendors. When we decided not to continue with FC Construction, they were honorable in giving us a refund. But when we called to remind them, the owner told us the refund was in the process. The next day, the main company line called and asked for our refund information to issue a refund. So it being "processing" was a lie. I didn't trust them to start any work, so I have no idea how their work is. But I wouldn't recommend based on the many red flags mentioned above. Kind people, though.

Tony walked my husband and me through all that would need to be done to insure that our house would be safe from any further water damage. The previous owners had a deck installed without flashing and a dryer vent incorrectly installed costing us time and money. I'm telling my friends and family about this company. I have such peace of mind knowing that as we find more things wrong with our house, Tony and his crew will do it right the first time and only charge for what is done. I was really surprised that there were any negative reviews because that wasn't our experience at all. Maybe it was a different crew back then.

I hired Sound Siding to replace a rotting deck in March 2015 that cost me $15,000. I would never…read morehire them again. Additionally, Sound Siding has done a recent $150,000 re-siding project on a West Seattle condo building where I'm a Board member. Their crew covered-up at least one dryer vent with siding by mistake, their grave oversight only recently discovered by accident when our dryer vents were cleaned. Dozens if not a hundred loads of wet laundry have been dried with the moisture being evaporated either UNDER the new siding or into the crawl space where it can cause damage like black mold!! This is an appalling mistake, to cover up a dryer vent with siding! Although Tony's crew does competent work, my own $15,000 deck project in 2015 should have taken only 2-3 months, but dragged on for 6 months while Tony pursued larger condo projects. Tony also told me the unfortunate story of his daughter, and I am sorry for anyone who loses a loved one, especially a child. He sat at my dining table for 2 hours in 2015 and cried when he shared the story, and we got tears in our eyes as well. At the end of his talk, I wrote him a check for $10,000-12,000 to cover the 80-90% partially completed work. Next, 6 months of broken promises went by before our deck was finished and the scaffolding removed. For 6 months we had no deck railing and a 30 foot drop off our master bedroom deck, with plastic and scaffolding left on 3 stories of our house because the project was 90% complete but Tony wouldn't finish the all-important last 10% to put the railing in. At one point, I began to doubt the stories Tony told me claiming our deck railing was on order, so we actually called the deck railing manufacturer and discovered he'd never phoned in the order for our railing despite repeated assurances he'd done so. There were many days he promised Bruce would work on our deck where Bruce just wouldn't show and we'd be left leaving voicemails and texts for Tony that went unreturned. Sound Siding was the epitome of a nightmare contractor experience. While I feel badly he lost his daughter so many years ago, the fact that the story was shared in what I thought was a heartfelt conversation than was then followed by a 6 month nightmare really rubs me the wrong way, and I still remember it 3.5 years later. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt but we got burned so many days with Sound Siding. I would never do business with Sound Siding again.

People that worked on the project were knowledgeable. They explained what they are doing and answer my questions and concerns. The project in the end concluded to my satisfaction.
