The folks at Alaska Vision Center saved my Alaskan vacation!…read more On the third day of our 10 day Alaskan cruise I broke my glasses in half. Electrical tape purchased before we got back on the ship proved futile (I could have lived with the Hansen brother look). Our next stop was Juneau and we had 12 hours in port. We had scheduled a six hour whale watching excursion that started upon arrival in Juneau (I did have my prescription sunglasses so the whale watching was a go). I had to figure out how to get to a place that could repair or replace my glasses during our stay in Juneau. Using the internet on the ship, I found Alaska Vision Center in Juneau. I called before we reached port and talked to Sharon. I shared my problem with Sharon and she proposed some possible solutions; repairing my frames, finding frames that could hold my not-broken lenses or finding lenses they had in house to match my prescription. I called the Juneau taxi company from the ship and got them ready to meet me on the dock area before my excursion left. About five hours, after I had passed on my broken glasses and the address of Alaska Vision Center to a nice cab driver, Sharon called me to tell me that they had put my lenses into a very similar frame that they had available, she wanted to confirm that I was amenable to the cost before she charged my credit card. Of course I was. Upon getting back to the dock, my wife and I took a cab tour of Juneau (highly recommended) as we went to pick up my glasses. They fit perfectly, no tweaking necessary! With our itinerary, this had been my only opportunity to get these glasses. I can't imagine not being able to see the wonders of Alaska on what is likely a once in a lifetime trip. The only outstanding issues were that I missed Sharon as she had already left for the day and I had neglected to take a bottle of wine as a thank you. Thank you to Sharon and everyone else Alaska Vision Center.

I normally would not leave a review like this, and my mother asked that I don't, but after how she…read morewas treated, I have felt compelled to say something. My mom has been a customer here for many years and was recently (a few months ago) treated in a way that was shockingly unprofessional over what should have been a very simple customer service issue regarding a promotion that was never disclosed to her at the time of purchase. What made the situation even more frustrating was the contradictory communication from staff. There was apparently a promotion offering any second pair of frames purchased at 50% off. That promotion was never mentioned to my mom by the staff at any point. When she later found out about it she called and was told by Megan that if she had been interested in two pairs, someone would have told her about that promotion, but because she wasn't they didn't. That logic makes no sense, how could she have known to be interested in an offer that was never disclosed in the first place?! However, after Megan admitted to not sharing this offer with my mother, Dr. Sarah sent an extremely aggressive email to my mom insisting her staff had in fact communicated the promotion to her during the original purchase. Those two explanations directly contradict each other and left my mother feeling gaslit. Instead of handling the situation respectfully, the office, and Sarah, were finger-pointing, dismissive, and unnecessarily hostile. The environment honestly is much more like a high school clique than a professional medical practice. What also surprised me was how unprofessional Dr. Sarah's email to my mother came across when she showed it to me. I felt terrible for my mom and how they made her feel, and had extreme second hand embarrassment for Sarah to be talking to a patient in such an abrasive, unprofessional manner. The tone of her email felt defensive, dismissive, and unnecessarily personal rather than calm and professional, especially from someone running a medical practice. Instead of de-escalating the situation or addressing the contradictory information my mother had been given, the email focused on portraying my mother as the problem for questioning a promotion that was NEVER disclosed to her. Certain staff members also spoke to my mother in an abrupt and confrontational manner, which escalated my mother's interactions with them. And after reading Dr. Sarah's own response, it became clear why the staff communicates the way they do. Leadership sets the tone, and unfortunately that toxic attitude has trickled down throughout the office. No customer, especially a long-time loyal one, should be made to feel belittled or painted as "difficult" simply for questioning something reasonably and expecting respectful communication. I'm leaving this review because people deserve to know that if an issue arises, this office will not handle it with the professionalism, respect, or courtesy you would expect from a medical practice. Small town bully mentality doesn't appear to escape people, even long after graduating high school.

We really rented a car to visit the Mendenhall Glacier but once that beauty was seen, off to the world's smallest Costco side quest for lunch!! What's different here: - No gas/fuel center - No rotisserie chicken - No in-house bakery. They have baked goods, but from an outside bakery and selection is small. - No pizza in the food court. They have mostly everything else food-wise - we got the usual $1.50 hot dog combo. The food court is inside, and there's a small covered seating area outside. Besides the compactness and difference noted above, seems to me just like a regular Costco. The samples here are tasty and the same friendly staff. The outside backdrop is beautiful (just like the Costco in Bend, Oregon!). I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but will indulge him in Costco tourism for novelty reasons since we already had the car.

Yes, indeed it is small. Typical Costco items with no unique merchandise that can only be bought from Alaska. Great to go if you have time to kill.
