Overall a good dentist! I have been going for 5+ years to LSD. Appointments are always on time and they always give ample time for questions. The hygienists are friendly and often ask if you're comfortable. I did also need a crown about a year ago which I was very anxious about, but we talked through the entire process. I do not recommend Dr Barker. disappointment and concerns regarding the treatment I received during my appointment in November, which led to the extraction of my back molar. After reflecting on the experience and conducting additional research, I feel the advice I was given fell short of the due professional and standard of care I expected, particularly when it came to preserving my natural tooth. I feel that certain aspects of my care were rushed and I was not given the full range of options to make an informed decision about my tooth. To be transparent, I arrived late to my appointment, which may have contributed to the feeling that the process was rushed. However, I still feel that the time taken to discuss my options and long-term outcomes for my tooth was insufficient, especially given the seriousness of the situation. I also had a route canal 8 months earlier and did not seek a permanent crown asap. So I was told there was decay since then. During the appointment, the dentist mentioned that there was only a 50-50 chance of success with a crown and suggested extracting the tooth as a more straightforward option since I was already numb. It was mentioned that a crown may last up to 5 years. While I understand there were risks involved, I was not presented with alternatives like crown lengthening or other restorative procedures that could have preserved the tooth. Instead, extraction was positioned as the easier option, especially since I was already numb, with minimal discussion about follow-up care or the potential for shifting teeth. As I've since learned, preserving natural teeth is a priority in dental care. I was not fully briefed on the potential long-term impacts of extraction, such as tooth shifting. According to the American Association of Endodontists, preserving natural teeth should be a priority as "nothing looks, feels, or functions like your natural tooth." Additionally, research indicates that at least 2 millimeters of healthy tooth structure is typically required for successful crown placement, and options like crown lengthening can often address cases where minimal tooth structure remains. None of this information was presented to me during the appointment, which made it difficult for me to make an informed decision. I'd like to note that the dental hygienist was very kind and supportive, helping to calm me down as a nervous patient, the overall tone of the appointment felt inattentive and unprofessional. During the procedure, the dentist and the dental technician engaged in a casual conversation about a new employee and her progress. This left me feeling dismissed and as though my concerns were not a priority. In hindsight, I feel I may have been pushed toward extraction without fully understanding the alternatives or the long-term consequences of losing my tooth. I am now left questioning whether this was the best course of action. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTAL OFFICE This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a medical office. Before making my first appointment, I called my dental insurance to confirm coverage. I clearly explained that I wanted a limited exam for a cavity concern and a cleaning. My insurance confirmed both were covered. I then called this office directly, confirmed they accept my insurance, and was told both services could be done the same day. Based on this information, I scheduled the appointment. At my first visit, they insisted on taking additional X-rays even though I had already sent my previous exams. I was told the X-rays were covered, so I agreed. The dentist confirmed I had a small cavity and scheduled a follow-up appointment to treat it. At today's appointment, which they rescheduled at the last minute to the next day, I paid for parking and arrived expecting to get the cavity treated. Instead, I was told at the front desk that my insurance didn't cover a complete exam and that I had to pay an extra $90. I calmly explained multiple times that my appointment was for a limited exam, not a complete exam, and that this had already been confirmed by both my insurance and this office. That's when the unprofessional behavior started. The manager, Theresa, came out with a hostile attitude and said, "There's nothing I can do for you. Take it up with your insurance or leave." When I tried to explain the situation, she walked away while I was still speaking. I have never experienced such disrespect in a healthcare setting. I asked if there was anyone else I could speak to because the manager was being extremely rude and unwilling to help. She came back out and repeated that there was "nothing she could do," continued telling me I could leave, and made no effort whatsoever to resolve a billing issue that was clearly caused by their own miscommunication. After about 30 minutes of back and forth, she emailed me stating that she had inactivated my account. The staff, including one of the receptionists, were rude, dismissive, and clearly uninterested in helping. The doctor did nothing to step in or show any concern for what was happening. This office shows zero accountability and zero professionalism. This experience felt like a money grab, not patient care. If you value honesty, respect, and ethical billing practices, stay far away from this office. read more

Today I'm particularly happy with them because I've been experiencing a lot of temperature sensitivity in a tooth which is making eating fairly hard - I called them up and told them my issue and they fit me in for tomorrow! Talk about customer service! Just wish I'd called earlier. The only reason I give them a 4 is because parking can be a pain, and they don't do oral surgery or orthodontia in-house (and I've needed both and had to go elsewhere). read more

I actually came across this provider through a Yelp search after moving to Baltimore about 7 years ago and I've been rocking with them ever since. She takes the time to answer all of my many questions, makes relevant recommendations and since coming, my teeth have been in the best shape they ever have been. Ok, I will be the first to admit I do not look forward to going to the dentist. I have a very complex number of dental issues, and just about every time I go.....it involves needles. I also need to say, because of that....I have not seen a dentist in three years. ((I am not proud of that fact)). So this visit was because a crown popped off as I was flossing a couple weeks ago. My wife cemented it in for me (with an OTC drug store fix) , but I knew it had to be repositioned and make sure there was no bacteria under the crown. I felt at home as son as I walked in, because I could tell some one was a scuba diver by the pictures on the wall. As it turns out my dentist, Dr Forel is a scuba diver!! I also found out she has a pug TOO! I digress.... I love the fact everything they do is "go green dentistry".....being mindful of reducing the carbon footprint they leave. As my wife and I were waiting, one of the dentists carried out RECYCLING!!! Once I was in the room, I had X-rays taken, and all the techs were VERY nice. Dr. Forel came in and looked at the X-rays....but first things first. She wiggled the crown off, and cleaned up the area, and made sure it was positioned correctly before she cemented it in. WHAT a huge difference when I bite down...I don't hit that one tooth. Then she showed me the X-rays....I have a cavity under a crown, so that will be filled and dealt with next visit. Then we will clean my teeth. Dr. Forel also prescribed a Rx toothpaste to help my teeth and gums! I am so impressed with the care and personal attention that the business gives each and every person. It was great that as a new patient I could fill in my health and insurance info electronically - so there was no paperwork required the day of my appointment. After having an iffy experience with one of the chain dentistry establishments in the city, I wanted to get a routine cleaning somewhere trustworthy and close to my apartment in Fed Hill. I've been looking for a new dentist office in the city for a bit now, especially somewhere downtown where I can easily walk or ride over from my place if necessary. My search is over and I'm glad I found the team over at Light Street Dental! The location is easy to find and located right next to parking garages and street parking, literally right off of Light St. across from the Harbor. The staff had all my information and insurance on file when I walked in and I had no extra paperwork to fill out. The dentist and hygienist also saw me early since I arrived a little bit ahead of time expecting that extra paperwork. One of the best and most gentle dental cleanings I've ever received and they fixed up a cracked filling I had with no issues. Will be coming back for the foreseeable future. read more

Really disappointed with Light Street Dental. I used to go there for a few years. Loved the people, friendly and easy to communicate with. Then with COVID, they lost a lot of dental hygienists, and it became really hard to schedule. I had scheduled an appointment 8 months out from a cleaning because of lack of availability, which was fine. Then they called me last second to cancel the appointment and told me there was no way they could reschedule me because of staffing. They said they would reach out. Never did. I just tried to call to schedule after not hearing for awhile, and because I "wasn't rescheduled/didn't get an appointment after my last one" they can't get me in (apparently ever). I tried to ask to see if I can schedule something even many months out, but apparently I can't because I "didn't get an appointment when I left last time" (not true, it was cancelled on me). So now I need to be on a waitlist that notifies you only last minute if someone cancels. Front desk staff was also really rude, and made it seem like I was the idiot for not understanding why I can't be scheduled... read more

My retainer broke one day and they was able to squeeze me in the next day, even as a brand new patient. They were reasonably priced (retainers are pricy, I know from experience as I need a new one about every 2 years; this was the cheapest one yet, though in full disclosure, I have only lived in very expensive large cities prior to Baltimore), quick with turnaround time about a week. Other pluses: the dentist does the entire cleaning, not the hygienist; updated xray technology that doesn't cut into your gums; easy street parking; open one Saturday a month for the busy resident who's in the hospital during almost all business hours. Head's up: if you're a Johns Hopkins employee, your insurance does not cover the entirety of your cleaning, I think it comes out to be $30 for xrays + cleaning, which is reasonable for the convenience/service. read more

I saw Drs. George & Lisa Williams from about 2001-2007. This is the way dental practices should be. There was very little turnover in the staff, the hygienists knew my name and would greet me as I came in (yes, it's because I was there a lot, but they did this to other people too). I saw Dr. George most of the time, and I always felt in good hands, as I believe he is a professor at UMD. He is very kind and patient. His wife is also a great dentist but would chide me a bit more about my dental practices, and tell me to stop eating sugar. So essentially Dr. George is the nice "dad" and Dr. Lisa is the "mom" who's going to call you on your bad behavior, and I know I need that sometimes. I had a lot of dental work done there over the years and while yes, I'd obviously rather be somewhere else, I knew I'd always be treated kindly by the doctors and staff. Occasionally they would keep me waiting longer than normal, but not very often. This practice is located in a building that I believe is a seniors only apartment complex, so there are a lot of elderly people as patients. I dreaded finding another dental practice when I moved to DC because this one is the best. It was at my own determent that I did this, but thankfully I seem to have found a good practice here in DC (look at my other reviews for that). They are the best dentists in Baltimore so if you're in the Inner Harbor and need a dentist go, go, go! read more

Very accessible dental location for those of us that live in the Pigtown-area looking for a local dentist that isn't too far. I chose this location after narrowing down from a handful of others and I'm glad I decided on this one. Every staff member at Light St. Dental is very friendly and approachable. There have been times when I've came here after a long, stressful day of work, but will leave out in a better mood with a smile on my face. What I really appreciated about this dental facility is that they remembered me even after I had returned from a one year deployment to Afghanistan. I love the entire staff at Light Street Dental!! Don't let the location (being across from the Science Center) stop you from going. I never have a problem finding parking right in front of the building. The front of office staff is fantastic, they always work with my insane work schedule. The hygienists are all friendly and efficient, as well as the knowledgeable dentists. What really did it for me though, was having my wisdom tooth pulled. Now, granted, I had short roots and nothing preventing it from popping right out. BUT, I made the mistake of letting other people know I would have the tooth pulled and they scared the shit out of me, telling me how bad it is. Well, it was the opposite! It was out in 30 seconds, an easy recovery and everyone was friendly and welcoming the entire time, even letting me hum to myself for comfort (I'm a weirdo). I have severe anxiety when it comes to the dentist. That is putting it mildly. Back in the spring, I had an issue that had to be treated. I went in and met Dr. Nichole and her staff. Holy cow, i mean, holy cow; i have been back 3 times in 6 mos. As she has helped correct my teeth and for the first time in a long time she did a cleaning. I have a major fear of the metal instruments going in my mouth. They don't know, that I know that they listened to me the first time I told them this and actually heard me. They don't put anything out until I am laying back in the chair so they don't cause me anymore stress than I am already under just showing up. I do not think there is a rating high enough to accurately portray a representation how great they are! I will never have another dentist, but Dr. Nichole and all of her wonderful people. read more

I absolutely love Light Street Dental. I know most people dislike going to the dentist, but I would say I do even more than the average person. They just make you feel so incredibly comfortable here. The people at the front desk are so sweet. Last time I had an appointment, they let me know that my insurance must have changed and were super accommodating getting it updated for me and verifying before I came for my appointment. Dr. Mike is so great and he has done all of my cleanings that I've had so far. I also had a previous dentist tell me I needed fillings redone and my wisdom teeth out ASAP and when Dr. Mike took a look he assured me that neither of those requests were necessary, which makes me think other dentists may not be quite as honest as Light Street. Wonderful visit start to finish! Went last week as a new patient - very easy to schedule my appointment and the front desk staff were wonderful about communicating via email (what I prefer and requested when I made an appoitment request). Upon arriving, the front desk staff was super friendly and got me checked in with no unnecessary paperwork. I was taken back quickly into a clean room. The cleaning itself was done by the dentist (sometimes I have had cleanings done by their assistants and the dentist just checks the teeth after at other places). Also, he checked my neck/lymph node glands for any irregularities. He even asked how I got a scar in my upper gum that I've had since I was 8 months old and no dentist has ever noticed before! Overall, I was very happy with my choice to go to light street dental and will return. I was worried about parking but like previous reviews, had no trouble easily finding metered spots right in front. They had me in and out the door quickly too which is greatly appreciated. read more

I had an appointment recently at Light Street Dental. One my coworkers highly recommended them. I liked my previous dentist, but needed to find another one with better hours and closer to work. Their website provides a lot of information and makes scheduling an appointment easier. I worked with Sarah and she was very helpful with answering my questions and addressing my concerns. Their new patient form is available on their website and can be completed before your visit. I parked in the Harbor Park Garage, which is a very short walk to the office. The dental office does not validate the parking tickets from this garage. There are also have parking spots in front of the office. Since it was my first appointment, I arrived 15 minutes early. I didn't have to wait too long before they called me back. I met with Jackie who reviewed my medical history and took my x-rays. I was scheduled for a cleaning with Dr. Forel. It took about an hour for the entire visit (x-rays, cleaning, discussing next steps). Dr. Forel provided a treatment plan and did not try to sell me on all the services they offer (which I really appreciate). The appointment went very well (I didn't leave with any pain). Having relocated to Baltimore for work, I was in search of a new dental practice for routine cleanings and other procedures (should the need arise). A friend referred me to Light Street Dental and I couldn't be happier with the services I've received to date. Dr. Forel is what separates Light Street Dental apart from other practices in the area. However, I'm thankful to not have had the need to sample the services of other dentists in the area. Before speaking to Dr. Forel's professional strengths, the staff at Light Street Dental play a strong part in reducing the anxiety that typically accompanies visits to the dentist. The staff are friendly, polite, and extremely efficient. The staff here will even send appointment reminders via e-mail, which I find especially nice since I rarely listen to voice mail. In general, any medical practice that stays current with technology will receive high ratings from me, and in the case of Light Street Dental, being able to fill out a new patient form online is one less packet of papers that gets delivered to my home. With respect to Dr. Forel, it only takes a few moments to see why she has been consistently rated as one of the best dentists in the greater Baltimore area. Interpersonally, she is kind and very approachable. She discusses what to expect during each step of a procedure and actively checks in with you to ensure that you're doing okay. I've never experienced a spike in anxiety when going to the dentist, but for those who do, Dr. Forel does a great job of making sure that you're comfortable from start to finish. Dr. Forel is genuine with her recommendations and will tell you what specific procedures you may need to have completed down the road, but won't actively pressure you into having anything done immediately. This was the best dental experience I have ever had. A little backstory: I have had a traumatic mouth injury that I sustained during a soccer game. I have had all of my front teeth knocked out and jaw rebuilt. Needless to say, I fear the dentist. I am from Pittsburgh and began most of my dental "journey" there. I have had a hard time getting in contact with my dentist in Pittsburgh to finish a procedure, but the doctor I ag Light Street offered to get in touch with a dentist he knew at the place I used to go to. The amount that he was willing to go above and beyond made it a very positive experience. To top that, everyone was extremely welcoming and professional, and I felt very at ease. I'm some 5000 miles away from my dentist at home so I was so relieved to find such great quality dental care in Baltimore. Last week my permanent retainer broke off of my teeth while I was eating and I thought my teeth had holes in them. I called them up just to ask for an assessment and I was in their office 2 hours after I called. Dr. Eve Desai DDS took care of me and fixed my teeth right up and explained to me what had happened (no holes in my teeth!). It feels so nice to have my teeth back to normal. I ended up getting my teeth x-rayed/cleaned/polished and a molding for my bottom teeth so I could get an invisiline type of retainer. All around quick, efficient, friendly service! I was informed of every procedure that was taking place and there were no surprises, which makes for a more comfortable dentist visit. Everyone that I met in the office is extremely personable and always made me feel welcomed. It was a great relief to find Light Street Dental away from home and now I can rest assured that if I have any other major problems I have a place to go in Baltimore! read more

I have had nothing but extremely positive experiences working with Dr. Lisa Williams (have yet to meet her husband, who also works in the office). This coming from a girl who absolutely despises the dentists and dental procedures of any sort, that's a pretty big deal. Although located right on a busy street, there is usually metered parking available out front. I found out during my cleaning that I had a minor cavity, so I scheduled an appt. to come back the following week. This was my first filling, so I had worked myself into a minor panic about the filling, and the novicane shot, but Dr. Williams was able to calm my fears, and the entire thing was totally painless and over in a jiffy. I have been going to Light Street Dental for over a year now after going to a terrible dentist. I went to Light Street for a regular cleaning and also for a consult on tooth pain caused by my old dentist. They did their best to try to fix my tooth pain but eventually had to refer me to a root canal specialist who fixed everything right away. Overall I love seeing Dr. Forel and she has been the best dentist. She was also very helpful with my root canal process and getting my cap perfect. I've had such a great experience here that I have also started sending my husband who also had great reviews. She has aided my teeth in many ways, filling caveties, fixing chips, and giving great advice. She is extremely gentle and careful (and I am very squemish!)
