Every time I make it on the island I make sure to stop here. The coffee great, the staff very friendly and they love and support military and first responders. They have some amazing cinnamon rolls, sandwiches and just all around an amazing bakery. I was in today working and all day the phone was ringing for orders for thanksgiving. Great place, fresh baked goods, and apparently a long line for weekend brunch. We visited on Saturday afternoon to take a look and it wasn't very crowded - all looked good and my wife got a couple cookies which were okay. We then came back around 9:30 AM on a Sunday morning to find a line with 10-12 people in front of me and barely moving. Thankfully it appears to have been just a couple REALLY slow customers and after 10-15 minutes the line started to move much faster. I wanted a crab omelette but figured it might be 30+ minutes until I got it so we just went with pastries and the cinnamon roll was very good as expected. It also was big enough for two so on future visits we'll just share one. It's small & local, which gives you the good as well as the bad (sometimes slow service) but it's pretty hard to go too wrong at the Lighthouse Bakery. An incredible bakery on Dauphin Island with fresh baked goods and deli sandwiches. The French bread baked on Saturday is out of the world. We got breakfast at the bakery each morning we were on the island, and got a variety of different things. Everything was delicious. I never got a sandwich made on their croissants, and I regret that! Lighthouse Bakery is definitely my favorite place for lunch on the island. I usually get their Lighthouse special of the day, but they also offer many different sandwich ingredients to create your own delicious hoagie. Speaking of hoagies, they make theirs daily and they are absolutely delicious! I typically order a half hoagie, and it is still huge! You can also get anything on one their fresh croissants. I've only had one of their pastries, but they all look delicious. They also have a deli case with soups, fresh crap dip, and other local grab-and-go items for sale. Plenty of inside dining along with a few small tables on the front porch. Order at the counter and expect a line to wrap around into the dining room. Lighthouse is super busy in the morning with people on their coffee and pastries run, and gets pretty busy again during lunch. However, your food comes out pretty quickly. Anyone giving this place less than four stars is just plain ignorant. The place is small and the baked goods are awesome! It's a real little bakery. Don't go here if you get your perfectly shaped baked goods at a grocery store. Don't go here if you have to have your food fast! I have been visiting the island a few times a year for a short while now with family of varying tastes. We have given the Lighthouse bakery a few tries in that time frame, all with disappointment by everyone. The bakes are cloyingly sweet, dry, and underwhelming. This bakery is a gem on the island. I went there twice. Had the cinnamon roll on my first visit and it's probably big enough for two unless you're extremely hungry. On the second visit I tried the bacon wraps and pigs in the blanket. We're good also. I also purchased two croissants to make a sandwich with later in the day. The croissants were flaky, large and made an excellent sandwich. Again they can be very busy in the morning with long lines. read more
