The Lazy Flamingo is a Captiva staple and you'll find it on Periwinkle Way. We have been coming for many years. The atmosphere here is low key, which is especially great if you're coming straight from the beach. When you enter the restaurant you definitely get the sense of low key. The staff all wearing Lazy Flamingo t-shirts, that they sell to customers. Once we were seated our server came with waters and menus. We told her all of us were ready to order. For the table we got the Flamingo Garlic Bread with marinara. We always get this and it's delicious. For my entree I ordered the Shrimp Tacos (Lightly fried shrimp on flour tortillas with crisp slaw, topped with house-made mango salsa, & drizzled with a spicy cream sauce. Served w/black beans & rice) The shrimp was hot and well seasoned. It had a little too much breeding though. Loved the spicy cream sauce and mango salsa.The black beans were made perfectly. For drinks got a Land Shark. It paired well with the tacos; My wife ordered the Clam Chowder to start with and she loved it. For her entree she ordered the Pot (2 dozen select oysters or clams or combo, steamed in beer with special spices, celery, onions, all in their own fresh juices) This is here favorite meal here. Tonight it was still delicious. My mother in law ordered the Clam Chowder to start with as well. For her entree she ordered the Shrimp (Plump, pink, breaded (our own) prawns. Served w/cocktail sauce & French fries. She said the breading on the shrimp was a little too much; My sister in law ordered the clam chowder to start with as well. We came for lunch just before any rush. We were seated right away. I was happy to see that they're "back" and reopened. We came here many years ago and enjoyed their food. The place is casual, rustic, and come as you are. Got our drinks pdq. We decided to share a combo pot. But after some soup. Got the conch chowder. It came in a large, pretty plastic conch "shell". It was slightly spicy, but not much. In fact, there's hot sauces on the table if you need more heat. There was a nice amount of ground conch pieces in a tasty tomato based broth. It was big enough to share, btw. Then we got their combo steamed pot -- 1 dozen clams and 1 dozen oysters. This takes awhile to cook as we knew it would. So if you get one of these, order soup or an app while you're waiting. The clams are the cedar key ones. Small but tasty. We didn't use the melted butter, but asked for cocktail sauce instead. The oysters -- which you have to shuck with the provided knives -- were wonderful! I'd probably get all oysters next time. In the bottom of the pot are celery and onions which you can also eat. Up until now, I've always been satisfied with this restaurant, Bookelia Lazy Flamingo, but during our meal last dinner, my wife ordered clams in marinara sauce. After bringing us our meals, the waitress came over to ask "how everything was going". My wife, who had the unpleasant surprise of finding a clam full of sand (see attached photo), said she was disappointed by the sandy clam. The waitress then asked her, "Do the others have sand in them too?" The meal had just begun; my wife had no way of knowing. We weren't asked any further questions except for the check at the end of the meal. I am extremely disappointed by this attitude, as it would have been appropriate to at least offer a new meal or come back to check how the rest of the meal was going. Went on a Thursday night, took long to get seated. Not too many servers and also parties just sit at their table after they're done. Food is fine. Garlic bread is good but small. The fried shrimp was good quantity but the breading should be different, crispier. This breading is more like a tempura. Kids pasta was good and the burger meal as well. We came here twice for dinner--once was an excellent, 5-star experience. Got this huge piece of Red Fish that I asked for blackened and it was just about perfect. Excellent service, this woman worked really hard to make us happy. Seating is pretty poor, cheap tables too close together in a dark dining room, but it was a great experience overall, largely because of that server. Came again for dinner because my husband wanted some of that Red Fish. He got that and I got some peel and eat shrimp because I wasn't overly hungry. Lots of well-seasoned shrimp. Nothing special but good. However: Service was terrible. This young guy couldn't have cared less about us. It was hot and he wouldn't bring refills, just ignored us. Nothing about that meal was fun. And to make it worse, we were stuck next to a table full of misbehaving children. And again, tables are crammed together inside. If it hadn't been so hot I would have chosen to be on their patio, although that wasn't exactly inviting as it is almost part of the parking lot. So, that experience was a 2-star at best. Always been one of our favorite places on the island and due to the hurricane it was still closed last year. Needless to say we were so happy to find it open in 2025. The island is still recovering so less people here than before so they are open for linch until 4 pm and only on Thursday -Saturday are they open till 8 pm. I'm sure but next year it will be back to normal schedule. As to food service etc. all the same it's always been excellent . My prior review stands. Been coming here for two years, and keep wondering why we missed this place the previous 5 years. They have inside seating and outside screened seating we have used both. Went there on a Sunday evening. They were decently busy (15 minute wait). Got seated, and the waitress got our drink orders (fountain drinks). We ordered our apps, which came out within 15 minutes (they did forget our oysters). Waitress came back to ask for our meal order. An HOUR later, our food came. Waitress came to us during that hour ONCE to say she was sorry for the food taking a while. Wasnt able to get refills on drinks unfortunately until the food was brought. She said they were busy. They were, but that's no excuse for taking that long. Food was good. Catch of the day was red fish (2 thin filets). Right before we got the check, the table behind us got comped a lot due to the same thing we went through (LONG wait for main course). It's nothing I was expecting, but we weren't offered anything. We got the bill, and my jaw dropped. $35 for the redfish!!!! 2 small, thin filets. NOT worth it at all. Manager NEVER came over to apologize for the wait or anything. We went to have lunch and a drink and we had the misfortune to have Ashley as our bartender. I asked what type of red wine she had and she looked at me like I had three heads. Do you know when someone takes an instant dislike to you for no apparent reason? Yep, that appeared to be the case. After that everything was difficult, getting a second menu, giving our order, we had to ask Jose for cutlery because apparently Ashley thought we would just use our hands. Server said Bartender was a little CRAZY. One Bartender for the entire place we noted. Saw friend who ordered about 20 minutes prior had not gotten any food so we did not order. Lazy F is loved by many for its affordable seafood offerings. Plus it's another top favorite of ours when our daughter was small- so it was nice to revisit their Sanibel location recently on a Thursday night after getting in town. The design here is the total opposite of those yacht nautical white walls/blues/seashell touches. Flamingo is more about that old nautical sailboat feel with ship wheels, oil lamps and lots of dark, chunky woods. Our 9pm Thursday dinner was nice as was the service. This Lazy F (not sure about all others) only serve beer and wine. Since we were in search of fried oysters, this Lazy F took care of that perfectly. Our conch fritters appetizer had the perfect amount and a nice size too- but they were too floury/doughy with barely any conch in them. Hubs enjoyed his Grouper Tacos and my Grouper Basket had 4 sizable pieces that had a wonderful and light batter- almost similar to a tempuras one. My husband picked the Lazy Flamingo for dinner. Upon entering, we noticed they have a decent parking lot, and outdoor seating. Once we entered, I felt like we were in an old boat or the crusty crab from Sponge Bob (neither a bad thing, leads to the charm of being at a seafood restaurant). We were promptly seated, brought waters and given menus. First almost all the restaurants we visited were kid friendly. Second almost all the menus had Kraft mac and cheese on the menu. You may wonder why the Mac and cheese reference, well, my kids on a mac and cheese kick. Anyway, I'm on a grouper taco kick, so we're somewhat creatures of habit. Anyway our server was pleasant. I asked for a sample of the Islamorada No Wake Zone beer on tap and was brought a sample. It was crisp, cool, and summery, so I ordered a glass of that. My husband ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, I ordered the grouper tacos, and my kiddo ordered the Mac and cheese. We didn't wait very long. My husband raved about his grilled chicken sandwich, which was HUGE. My son ate all his Mac and cheese. I liked my grouper tacos, but wish they had been warmer. Lazy Flamingo!! This is a just when visiting Sanibel and Captiva. They have two locations but we prefer and will drive to the original location on Periwinkle. Ok the clam chowder, OMG this is so creamy, delicious, thick and so yummy. It's almost like a sauce it's so good. I've also tried the conch chowder also very good but very spicy. The steamer pot. This is my favorite and I look forward to it all year. It's about 2 dozen steamed clams, in a steamer pot which comes with butter to dip. I think on its own I would be hungry so the soup is a great addition. These clams are so delicious with some old bay I could probably eat a 100. The family also ordered the peel and eat shrimp, coconut shrimp, Buffalo shrimp, and the Caesar salad with blackened salmon. We also ordered the garlic bread with Mariana for $1 extra. Definitely add the Mariana. Every single food item is delicious. We also have had the grouper sandwich, the chicken wings and the fish tacos. This is definitely worth the stop. It's one of the first restaurants you drive past once you get onto the island, and the menu has something for everyone. I've been a dozen times, and it always hits the spot. Most recently, I ordered a half portion of caesar salad with blackened shrimp. The half portion is plenty for lunch. My dad got the grilled grouper sandwich and he loved it.
