I went looking for a unique table lamp based on a prior Yelp review and was not disappointed. This store has higher end prices but you're paying for the art of lighting. I found an Arteriors lamp with stacked crystal discs, last one in stock floor model at 50% off (normally over $800.) The service was great and they packed the lamp in a box with air wrap to protect for the drive home. Not all lighting is this expensive, there were other lamps $100-200 range as well. Before I went down to the store, I perused severak online sites to get an idea of what I wanted, and then Jason worked with me on the selections, pointing out which brands were more reliable, how the lights would work in the different areas, and other things that I hadn't even thought about. Everything was great! I tried so hard to use my big box merchandise credit to purchase lighting for a small home remodel- 2br 1ba and kept having to return what I purchased. There were so many great choices and of course the service was outstanding at Lighting Concepts! Absolutely the worst customer service I have experienced in a long time. The initial encounter was what you would expect, however this store doesn't carry much if any inventory, so you need to wait 2 weeks to get your order, We ordered a few fixtures and i specifically asked about returning items,, i never got a straight answer , further i checked my receipt and i was over charged. When I brought this up the lazy sakes rep says " oh, well if you place another order we will credit your account ". So now we waited, and waited and waited, finally I called the store after 2.5 weeks and "Mike" answers, he must have had a bad day, he was bordering rude and gruff, tells me "yeah its in". We pick up out lights and come to find out one of the fixtures doesn't work, we go back and lucky us deal with "Mike" again who is totally annoyed that we are there trying to exchange this fixtures, so he tinkers with it and gets it to turn on. Oh ok, thanks, go back home and light still doesn't work, so back again to the store, this time we are lucky enough to see the owner, explain the situation and the owner is very understanding gives us a refund. Mike is there making comments under his breath, and process the refund clearly annoyed at me. So bottom line is this local store does nothing you can't do yourself online. Lighting concept high mark up, poor customer service, bad return policy and terrible employees gets 1 star. Shop online, its cheaper, no hassle returning or go to your local home depot. This place isn't worth the money or the hassle. You have been warned. read more

Tom provides amazing service and definitely goes over and beyond for everyone! Long story short a few years back my mom got quotes for pendant lights for her kitchen remodel here. She gave me all the paperwork because a light bulb went out and apparently when she called the store told her there was nothing they could do and they needed to rebuy an 80$ led light bulb when it only lasted 2-3 years so far. Well I call and am ready to tear into who picked up the phone and Tom diffuses everything with his warmth and availability to help. Come to find out we didn't even buy from them !!!! We bought from a different store completely. My mom gave me the "quote" paperwork from lighting concepts but had actually ordered from a different lighting store and there was a miscommunication of what place I needed to chew out haha. Yet even with the mix up Tom got all the information and gave me warranty info and light bulb info and what I should tell the other company to get a replacement. He even said if the other store couldn't help then please come back and he will try to help us with the warranty. How amazing is that. I will tell you should we ever need lights again I will come here and everyone should. I love that the customer service is so accommodating and willing to work with you on what you need in the way of fans/lighting. When I couldn't get the fans I wanted because of delays during the pandemic, Jason was very helpful in telling me what he had and checking the stock for what they did have. As it turned out, the ones I substituted were a better fit for our condo. Then they referred me to a wonderful installer, Tom O'Kelley, who came with an assistant and installed the two fans in a little over an hour. They made it easy to schedule, came on time, well equipped and worked quickly and efficiently, and cleaned up afterwards. Highly recommend this store and the installer. read more

I visited Lighting Concepts today and had the most humiliating and verbal abusive experience that I have ever had at a business in my entire life. There were two attendants in the store: One sat at a computer and the other offered to assist me. I inquired about a particular lamp that I had observed on the store's website, and was told that it was not available, but could be ordered. When I said that customers expect items on websites to be available in stores, unless there is a caveat that items may have to be ordered, the attendant became inflamed and literally ordered me out of the store. When I asked for clarification (i.e., why I was being ordered out of the store), he began to hurl a barrage of verbal, profanity-laced insults at me, and repeated the order for me to get out of the store. He was joined by his colleague at the computer, who also told me to get out of the store. I told the attendants that I would Yelp the store, so here it is. I will never visit the store again. read more

We're renovating an old home and will be replacing all the lighting fixtures. We wanted to go with LED lights including recessed lights in the kitchen and foyer. Unfamiliar with recessed lights and LED dimmers, I attempted to do some research online and ask questions at places like Home Depot. Unfortunately, it was still pretty confusing and very difficult to get real help from the big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes. So we decided to look at the lighting specialty stores, expecting to pay several times more for similar products available at Home Depot. We visited a few stores and saved the one closest to where we lived for last, which was Lighting Concepts and Design. The first few stores were what we expected, high-end lighting at high-end prices. Customer service was good but we none of the designs caught our eyes. Lighting C&D also had a big showroom with so many lighting options, it seemed overwhelming at first. Tom Ogawa helped us out and answered our questions and offered to help us with the locations and specs for our recessed lights. He also showed us options on undercabinet lights. He was very knowledgeable on lighting and easy to talk to. Like many shoppers these days, I took pictures with my phone and took note of the model numbers so I could go home and compare their pricing to online stores and amazon. To my surprise, Tom's prices were on par or cheaper than the online stores. The undercabinet lights were cheapest online at amazon but Tom's prices were even lower. I decided to send him my kitchen layout by email and he recommended the locations of the recessed lights and the size and color options they had. He even said to keep the boxes because if we felt the lights were too yellow, we could exchange them for a whiter light. He sends me a quote with the cans and trim for the recessed lights and they were also on par with the online prices so we ordered everything from him. Everything was in stock so there was no wait. We then decided to look at exterior wall sconces. Since the home is near the ocean, we wanted something that would not corrode quickly. We decided to go with some Hubbardton Forge lights which are on the pricier side. Lighting C&D was again, cheaper than all the online stores I looked at so I placed an order with them. Ordering through Tom meant dealing with a local business and no shipping fee. He even called me to discuss light bulb options when I emailed him some questions on them. I really appreciated that. The other employees were also very helpful when Tom wasn't around. Lighting C&D always acknowledged me when I entered the store. I saw some reviews that complained about lack of service but I'm one of those shoppers who likes to look at my own leisure without being followed around or constantly asked if I need help. When I do need help, all I have to do is ask and they are more than happy to. read more

This is, hands down, the best lighting place in Hawaii. They provide excellent customer service, excellent knowledge of a wide range of products. For the past 15 years, they have met every lighting need we have, including going through two major renovations with us. When an electrician failed to order lights we needed, Tom managed to magically get them here so that our project wasn't delayed. They treat every sale as valued, whether we're buying one light fixture or 30. Mike and the other staff are knowledgeable, professional and friendly. They have resolved lighting issues that several electricians gave up on. New technology has been explained to me and they back up their products. They have assisted me with researching items that are not available on island and have relationships with electricians who can install complicated products. I have been to many other stores, I shop alot on line and I hope this brick and mortar store never closes. Parking is easy once you know where they are and they are reliable and have educated me about the various options available. I guess Tom was out to lunch the 3 times I've been here. Perhaps it's only a good place to go if you are buying commercial lighting for a business, judging on previous comments. Perhaps this is their target market (though w/ the amount of living-room-suited table lamps they carry, I didn't get that impression right away) I have been here three times since it's nearby and have been virtually ignored every single time. Last week I ventured in and the lady asked "are you looking for anything in particular?" i said a "clean looking floor lamp for my living room" - and then she said... nothing ... and went back to her desk. Didn't ask about finishes or price range or height or even tell me which part of the store that was in (and they have two floors so it could be upstairs) as I wandered uncertainly. I had a similar experience last time. I get better customer service pointing and clicking on Crate and Barrel or West Elm, which is what I will sadly end up doing. I wanted to patronize a local business, but.... Selection is decent but there are very few specials or sale items. Some funky stuff upstairs like chandeliers and isamu-noguchi esque lanterns. The way things are organized is also quite cluttered and haphazard-feeling; with floor lamps and table lamps and sconces seemingly adjacent. The use of space is not ideal. read more

I originally went in to look for ceiling fans and was amazed with the showroom. Linda was patient and helpful with all of my questions. She's very knowledgeable and I love what she picked out. Linda also worked with my electrician to make sure the lights I was getting will work with what they were installing. I had the right parts for the job preventing any back and forth running around. This place is really good for your lighting needs. You can order the newest, contemporary LED lights and the wait time is very reasonable at around 2-3 weeks. We have done most of our house from lighting concepts and are very happy with the lights we have purchased. The pricing is on par with Amazon, even slightly better in most cases. read more

So first of all...I am an interior designer...and I work with quite a bit of lighting distributors, manufacturers, electricians, and electrical engineers. I was working with another supplier of lights in Hawaii, name withheld to protect their identity. Needed to purchase a few pendant drop lights for a commercial space that plans to open next month at one of the larger malls. The previous supplier took over a month to order the lights. So I grew desperate and cut ties with the previous supplier. I called the contractor and he recommended Lighting Concepts. I worked with them before but maybe it was due to the desperation level of this project or what have you. But they were so wonderful to deal with. Klaire and Tom worked with me for two intensive days and here are the reasons they deserve 5 stars: 1) I got emails and phone calls back within THE HOUR. The other supplier took days and a week to get back to me on questions I had. 2) Tom KNEW his products very well. He was able to send me suggestions to save on shipping cost and shipping time to make that deadline, WHILE still fitting the budget. The other supplier just asked me over and over what I wanted to do, without any suggestions or alternatives. 3) They did not discriminate on the amount I purchased. I originally wanted to buy 6 lights but ended with buying just 2 and they were still very helpful and prompt. 4) They were highly recommended by contractors that I spoke to. 5) They even went out of their way to show me a suggestion on how to create a layout with the lights to hide the extension conduits and junction box. I selected a pendant light fixture that was a bit too short to fit into the existing high ceilings at this mall and required an extension. My husband and I made a visit and spoke with the owner, Tom who was very helpful and filled with knowledge when we were trying to explain what we visioned our lighting in our home to be. He was attentive towards us which was real nice. Who would like to be explaining something to someone and not have the attention of the person you are speaking with. He truly is an expert and also gave us some books to review to get more ideas.
