I think they do good work, my only concern is the communication. I wanted to re-wire 2 of my mother's lamps because there is nothing wrong with them except the harp is rusty and the wiring is old. Dave perfectly restored Dad's 57-year-old bowling trophy lamp, which had been in disrepair for many years. This lamp has a three-way switch, the first of which is a night light. When I was little, I was afraid of the dark, so Mom would turn on the night light for me every night. That yellow night light comforted me through so many nights. And now I'm crying. I have to start off by saying I looked for months for a glass lamp shade to replace the one I broke and could not find it anywhere, not online or here locally. I called Toni's Lamps & Shades to see if they could help and they were so helpful and tried their contacts for a glass shade with no luck. But they had a great idea to custom make one for my lamp and it work perfectly at a reasonable price. What great craftsmanship and a quick turnaround. Over priced! I had to replace the on/off switch for a lamp which took less than 5 minutes & was charged $50!!! Too bad, won't be back.

It was surprisingly difficult to find a company who would refurbish and recover my original lampshade frame, which was an unusual size and shape. I was fortunate to finally come across Toni's Lamp's and Shades on yelp. Carol and her staff provided excellent service. They painstakingly removed the old fabric (which was falling apart) and cleaned the metal frame of all the yucky black corrosion. Then they carefully recovered it with a similar fabric. It took 3 weeks and the lampshade came out perfectly. It wasn't cheap ($180) but it looks fantastic! Highly recommend. read more

So I am trying to reduce my tiny corner of the throw-away economy. I'll buy inexpensive quality lamps at the big box stores, but I will spend to get them repaired. The adage "why fix it when you can buy another one for the same price or cheaper?" is a recipe for more perfectly good easily fixable stuff in the landfill, on an island. I was not impressed. As soon as it was decided that they could not fix the lamp, and I decided not to pursue the change they were offering, Carol, the owner, wanted me to pick up the lamp asap. I called to say I was picking it up and requested she not leave it outside as she said she was closing soon, and that I will be there before she closed. She left it out on the sidewalk anyway despite her shop not closed yet. My whole experience interacting with Carol was not pleasant. This shop has been written off my list. I had a cool lamp base and a cool lamp shade that didn't fit each other. Toni's Lamps worked it out for me for $45. Now I have a cool lamp. Singularly expert in lamps and shades, this business is not about a cookie-cutter experience. Sometimes it's hard to pick your path across a few feet of carpet because lamps are crowding the floor, as they do the tabletops, shelves and storeroom. Need a lamp restored? Or have an odd object you want made into a lamp? This place is the best for it. I'm super surprised that there aren't already reviews for it. The shop has been around for decades. Toni comes from a generation of folks who didn't buy lamps at the store--they, instead, made things into lamps. While restoration and repair is most of his business, his real art is 'lampification.' Practically anything can be used to make a lamp. From Japanese fish floats to tiki statues, musical instruments to Chinese oil drums. I learned about lamps and saw many of Toni's creations in my two visits to his shop, while I was getting my lamp restored. His turnaround time was impressive. He quoted me a week but the lamp was done the next day. Not only did he completely rewire the lamp, replace the socket and other parts, but he also cleaned and polished the body. We matched it with a handcrafted burlap shade and now I have a killer lamp! Super nice guy, and you can tell he really loves his work. read more

The owners name is Eddie and he is a "Craftsman & Talent" he offers more than just fixing or refurbishing lamps. On my first visit I had a porcelain Buddha that has been in my family for a few decades converted into a lamp. His work is exquisite, details precise and the quality of service that he offers is RARE to find these days. Since then I brought 2 vases that were antiques made into table lamps, he has the knack to determine the best color and shades for your lamps and they are perfect. Friends have seen what he has done and transformed 3 porcelain Kuan Yin statues into lamps....magical workmanship. Needless to say, I highly recommend EVERYONE to pay Toni's Lamps & Shades a visit, you will not regret it. My sister had two antique Chinese Opera Lanterns converted into hanging lamps, they are dramatic and stunning brilliant pieces now! Eddie takes pride in his work, he makes pieces of art with passion and knowledge. His craftsmanship is First Rate. I have been going to Toni's since when it was off Kapiolani by McKinley Car Wash. Found Ed, who is now retired, was incredible, not only friendly but an amazing craftsman who showed attention to detail and could fix really old or weird stuff. Was sooo sad when they closed..but!! found the business reopened on 12th right off Harding in Kaimuki!! Took lamp there to get repaired. I think more expensive than what Eddie would have charged, but c'est la vie..their rent is probably higher too. They have a nice store front and definitely cleaner and neater than the old place which was so crowded with stuff you could hardly walk inside. Seems they have a bit more of antiques to offer too. Would go there for any other of my lamp repair or replacement needs! read more

Can't say enough about the wonderful job Carol Moore at Toni's Lamps did fixing my Tiffany lamp. This thing pumps out light for reading. The stained glass shade reflects wonderful color into the room. All this for fifty bucks and I was going to throw this broken thing in the trash. Thank you YELP for leading me to another diamond in the rough. We had two old chandelier lamps from our house that we wanted to refurbish and use. The two chandeliers were old (from the 1930s) but still beautiful and we knew we wouldn't be able to find anything comparable for a decent price. Enter yelp and we find Toni's lamps...Toni examined both pieces and said...it will take a couple of days but I can do it. He took our name and phone number down and a few days later he called to say the the lamps were done! Fairly priced for the work that he did. He did a fabulous job restoring one of the chandeliers which had some missing glass pieces. Truly amazing work. He accepts visa, cash, cheques. read more

My family has used Toni's services for years, following him from a previous address and his work is always Top Notch and the prices very affordable! To me this is one of the old gems of Hawaii shops! Just got home with the breath-taking lamp they made out of one of those beautiful white porcelain columns with lots of pukas so it looks kind of lacey. They recommended lining it with rice paper and putting in a law wattage light to show off the lovely design. I'm so glad I took their recommendation. It's got a three-way switch, so I can read by it, have just the inside backlit for mood lighting or have them both. It's hard to find this kind of knowledge and dedication in any industry these days. read more

When I learned of Toni's Lamps and Shades re-opening, I was delighted as we had lampshades that needed to be replaced and had run out of places that hand make them. Store bought just don't work! So far, we have had fours shades made and the frames repaired. All look fantastic and the workmanship is excellent.
