During that call, I was told there was a 4-week introductory program for $149, with classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:00 PM. I was also told that after the introductory period, membership would be $257 per month, with a discounted rate available if I signed up early. Based on that information, I was excited to get started. I confirmed my email, completed the registration process, signed the waiver, and booked what was advertised on the website as a free trial. When I arrived for class, I was informed that free trials were no longer offered and that the $149 introductory program was no longer available. This was surprising given that only about 10 days had passed since I had called to confirm everything. I asked whether I could simply pay for a drop-in fundamentals class since I was already there and on time, but I was told that drop-ins were only available to students with prior experience. As a brand-new student, my only option was to sign up for the full $257 monthly membership. That was the most frustrating part. The lower-cost introductory option was gone, the free trial was gone, and I wasn't allowed to pay for a single class to see if the gym was a good fit. Instead, the only option available was to commit to a full month for $257 without ever having taken a class there. That's a significant commitment for someone trying a new gym for the first time. It's unfortunate because the facility seems to have a great community and many satisfied members. However, having the terms change so quickly after I confirmed them, combined with having no way to try a class before committing to a full membership, left me with a very negative first impression.

Starting BJJ can feel intimidating, but they've created a safe and supportive environment that makes it much easier to stay consistent. That's important for a sport like this where progress takes time. What initially drew me in was Cobrinha's philosophy, and it absolutely lives up to the reputation. I'd encourage anyone to learn about it directly from him. I've been meaning to write this for a while, but I'm proud to be a member here now. This is a great place to start your BJJ journey.

I didn't just attend the jiu-jitsu class but went to yoga, judo and even the HIIT class. The only class I didn't take was their Muay Thai class, not because there wasn't an opportunity to but I wanted to focus on grappling. When I started they had just moved into their current space-they moved so there could be an outdoor space for classes during COVID and even after moving indoors after restrictions lifted they continually sought to improve the experience for their members. Even after I stopped being a dues paying member I was allowed to drop-in for free and still remembered and greeted fondly.

They know you are new and will help guide you with your first steps. It takes a little time to adjust to the routine and what the training is like but you will easily get a rhythm if you show up consistently. They want you to come back and they want you to improve. Also They let you try out the gym before you sign on. They have lots of gym equipment in here as well so there is no need to pay extra for another gym membership just to lift weights. But we spent alittle over $300 there on everything! There is a $35 or $45 entrance fee depending on when you come. It's just to come inside the lagoon. If you want the obstacle course it's an additional $10 per person for 55 mins (super short). If you want to kayak, use the aqua bike or use the paddleboard it's an additional $10 per equipment/item. There is a kiddie area for small and young children. They DO NOT allow outside food or drinks except water! There is a small shop that sells misc. items, snacks & drinks (overpriced). They also had a foodtruck inside that was expensive and the meals didn't come with drinks. They do have plenty of staff and lifeguards there. The entrance fee should of been $15-20. The obstacle course atleast 90-120 mins instead of the 55 mins. Wish the foodtruck came with drinks and was a bigger portion.

My younger son joined not knowing anyone and felt welcomed almost immediately. Both of my boys felt included from day one. The staff is incredibly caring, supportive, and attentive. You can truly feel that they work hard to create a safe, joyful environment for the kids, and as a parent that means everything. The activities are fantastic: well planned, age appropriate, engaging, and fun. The natural setting is also beautiful and feels especially important these days. My boys came home with confidence, stories, friendships, and summer memories they will cherish forever. And the camp spirit is real. But even when told all the lanes were fully reserved, more than half weren't in use. Parking is a bit of a hassle; for non-members it's definitely not worth it. At the time of visit, the parking machine wasn't working. There are also sperate elevators for parking vs the athletic club / hotel area which was a little confusing. I've been learning at Like Water for almost two months and it's changed my life. Brazilian jiu jitsu is a fantastic sport and the community in this gym is really special. Professor Mauricio is a wonderful teacher, very attentive with complete beginners like me but also seems great with more experienced practitioners and with the children. All of my classmates have been incredibly welcoming, patient, and generous with their time, always willing to explain something when I don't understand or giving me tips (and sometimes books!) on how to improve. It's a challenging but very supportive atmosphere. Starting martial arts training has already brought me so many benefits - besides greater fitness, confidence, and discipline, it's helped me identify and start to address my fear of being in close contact with other people, as well as my need for a healthy competitive outlet. I'm always looking forward to my next class at Like Water. It's more than worth the price, and the schedule is pretty accommodating. Music selection is always on point. What did Bruce Lee say? Be like water my friend. What is water? It is constant yet it changes shape. Water is simple and it is powerful. And these are the techniques that Professor Mauricio teaches. Simple, powerful techniques. And upon those simple techniques which form your foundation you will learn more complex moves. The student are welcoming and Professor Mauricio in down to earth, smiling and encouraging his students. This is a school where you can hone your skills to compete and most importantly to survive on the streets. I have practiced bjj for 5 years and at times it's like figuring out a 1,000 piece puzzle. I've been training here for about a year and a half and starting here was the best decision ever. I train about 10 hrs/week or more, and have competed 6 times, most recently bringing home gold. Many other people from the adult classes compete as well as kids. I always feel welcomed and encouraged to keep moving forward and never feel unmotivated to come. Professor Mauricio is an amazing teacher and there are also many different belt levels who teach me a lot. I've felt at home here since the day I walked in for the first time and I plan to keep training and progressing here as long as possible! 100% recommend for anyone interested in BJJ or for their kids! read more

Literally having a blast here. The gym culture is insanely above and beyond. Each person gives you tips and advice and match your skill level. Everyone has a wonderful time and helped me feel so welcome. Professor Mauricio has been so welcoming, friendly, skilled and helpful. He helped me feel relaxed as I came alone. As a woman, I felt a little intimidated or shy and he had me pair up with the other women in class until I got comfortable grappling with the men. Good place to train and get top notch techniques. I've been training Jiu Jitsu for a while and have been able to really tighten up some loop holes in my game through Professor Mauricio. Kid friendly place, always clean and the staff are always professional. Also found some good guys to train with to work on drills and sequences, that aren't overly aggressive, like you find in other spaces. Highly recommended. read more

My kids have no experience at all but I see they learned so much already In just 3 days. The only thing, Parking is a bit of a struggle. But other than that this place is awesome everyone is so welcoming. My girls get very sweaty In 45 minutes. We love it!

Sweat classes are my favorite but recently started going to S&C for some toning and am really enjoying both. Also, do privates with Lolo and there is no one better, never thought I'd be able to box and even be somewhat ok at it but his expertise has made all the difference!! Really, really great people who welcome you in, there's no need to feel intimidated there, it's just positive energy! Five out of five, couldn't recommend this gym more!!!!

The coaches are knowledgeable, hilarious, incredibly encouraging... and frankly, they had no business being that attractive on top of everything else. Somehow the coaches make getting absolutely humbled feel motivating--and even fun. Vince is pure perfection. Every class is challenging, the energy is unmatched, and somehow they convince you that "one more round" isn't a personal attack. Five stars. Even though five stars will never be enough.My muscles are sore, my ego gets checked daily, and I keep coming back for more.

I attended my first beginner's class in December 2023 (it's now August 2024 when I'm writing this review), and I was probably in the worst shape of my life when I began. I blame Covid/changing to a WFH job/30's metabolism changes blah blah blah, but whatever. I was happy to keep blaming my excuses. And I was so nervous to take a class and move my body in front of other people... I had literally never taken an exercise class of any kind before. But when I say that first class was the most welcoming, encouraging, fun, and yes-HARD-experience I've ever had... I mean it. It was the perfect balance of everything I needed to get me to come back. I've never enjoyed exercising, it's always been something I dread. But Rashad and Crystal know what they're doing, and they genuinely want to help you feel stronger in your body. I never feel uncomfortable or self-conscious in any way in their classes, only encouraged and motivated. I've now lost 23 pounds (!) in the past 8 months (also with the help of a calorie deficit I started 3 months ago), and I feel actual muscle and strength that I've never felt before in my life, even at my "thinnest." I'm now straight up addicted to these classes. I will only miss one if life requires me to, and I feel genuinely upset when I do! They have been such a game changer for my mental health, too. Whatever your goals are -- weight loss, cardio and strengthening , stress release, or just a killer workout with an amazing community -- you'll find it here. I feel so blessed to have found them. I had been a member of RGLA for a while and the only reason I left was that I left the LA area…read more What I appreciated the most with RGLA was that there were so many offerings. I didn't just attend the jiu-jitsu class but went to yoga, judo and even the HIIT class. The only class I didn't take was their Muay Thai class, not because there wasn't an opportunity to but I wanted to focus on grappling. When I started they had just moved into their current space-they moved so there could be an outdoor space for classes during COVID and even after moving indoors after restrictions lifted they continually sought to improve the experience for their members. Even after I stopped being a dues paying member I was allowed to drop-in for free and still remembered and greeted fondly.

They offer many forms of martial arts including gi/no-gi bjj, striking/kickboxing, and wrestling. I typically attend the no-gi bjj classes. It starts with a quick warm-up, followed by learning a skill. Coaches will demo each move a few times and show you variations. You take turns drilling with your partner while the coaches will keep an eye out for questions or if someone is having trouble. The last 20 mins or so will be spent live rolling with different people on the mat. I also went to quite a few of the Friday workouts. The workout is mainly bodyweight/HIIT exercises that are timed. What I like about these is you can push yourself as hard as you want. If something is easier for you, do more or go faster. Not gonna lie, these classes kicked my ass. Sometimes I dreaded going to these but I never regret going. Overall, a great place to learn any form of martial art and get fit. Shout out to all the coaches who trained and pushed me!

They have a great coaching staff, and a healthy and positive gym culture centered on learning, challenging yourself, and keeping your training partners safe. The adult classes they have are Brazilian jiu jitsu (in the gi), and no-gi jiu jitsu, striking which ranges from boxing to kickboxing and muay thai, wrestling, MMA, escrima (stick fighting), and cardio conditioning classes. They also have kids classes, which you can find out about on their website. The monthly membership fee is a pretty good deal in my opinion. It's not uncommon for other gyms to have separate monthly fees for different disciplines, which quickly make the cost unaffordable for the average person. At Fight Science it's one price whether you want to pick a single discipline or train them all. You can do a free trail week if you're interested in checking it out. They can also loan you a gi if you want to try BJJ before committing to buying your own gear.
