Charging a credit card fee per person on a single transaction makes no sense, and trying to charge an "updo" price for two basic half-ponytails feels like a cash grab. My kids desperately needed haircuts and Lil Couture was able to accommodate both my kids simultaneously last min! They do a good job and they're very quick here - each kids' haircut took less than 15 min! Straight cut for girls is about $30, and a few extra bucks more for layering the front. My kids wanted to dye the ends of their hair after seeing pictures posted on their yelp page, but the male employee said they no longer carry the hair dye and it is a 3 hour long process. The kids were disappointed to hear that. They offer tinsel in your hair though, so I let the kids each do 6 strands of tinsel in their hair at $2 a piece. They were only supposed to last a few months, but it's been well over 4 months, and both my kids still have a few strands of tinsel in their hair. I would definitely come back to get my kids' haircuts here again! read more

We had our visit with Lil' Couture when another local chain kids salon failed to keep an appointment. We were desperate for an appointment as our son was going back to school the next day and his hair needed a cut. We called to make an appointment and they were able to accommodate us within that same hour we called. Finding the place was very easy. My son was a bit apprehensive with the haircut, but the stylist was very calm and was able to cut my son's hair as he sat in my husband's lap. The cut came out great and the price and service was reasonable and top notch for customer service. They have definitely gained a new customer as we will be back for all future cuts for my son! read more

Have brought my son here twice for a haircut, first time was bad and second time was AWFUL. They don't speak much English, move super fast, and have zero interest in anything you have to say. I blinked and she had given my son a completely uneven haircut and was randomly hacking his hair off with thinning scissors. Asking her to fix it only made the cut worse. Now no matter what I do he looks like a wet dog, will have to put a hat on him permanently until the hair grows back and will NEVER come here again. read more

He got his first cut here just before he turned 2 and is definitely due for a cut now (I wish they were doing haircuts outside now so I'd feel more comfortable bringing him back during the pandemic!). The stylists are very friendly with the kids and they have kid-appropriate movies playing and lollipops. My son sat on his dad's lap for his first cut but has since "graduated" to sitting on his own. Fast, quiet and efficient. We came here to get my 4 year old's hair cut for the first time since 2019, mostly to fix layers that I couldn't do correctly myself. Pros: Lightning fast and gentle with kids. Vee is great. For a girl's haircut, we were in and out in 15 minutes. Price is ok - in the 20s if you pay cash. A little bit more than a budget place but definitely way less than an adult hair salon. Not busy - easy to book even on weekends, which is a relief. Cons: Parking in the area isn't fabulous - it's downtown SC. Pretty basic haircut, they just adjusted and evened out some layers that I didn't do a good job on. Pretty barebones salon. There's nothing particularly kiddie about the place aside from some toys in the waiting area, an extra cushion on the seats to raise height, and lollypops for being done. If you are looking for a place that has like carousel-like seats and etc, this is definitely not it - it's just a regular salon with normal seats, except each seat has its own tv playing kiddie movies. Best place for kids haircuts by far. We've tried other kids places which are fine, but Lil Couture is the best for good looking hair. The owner has been doing it for a very long time, and knows his craft. The store is decently roomy with some benches and there's some basic kids shows on screen. We used to go to the Lil Couture 2 location in Mountain View before COVID closed that down, so now we go to the original location which is conveniently located on Laurel St. We'll come here again and highly recommend! read more

I decided to visit this salon after several years away and brought my 4 year old daughter this past weekend. It was the worst haircut she's gotten. I asked for a two inch trim and the stylist in the third chair cut off closer to four inches. It was also completely uneven. She had my kid get out of her chair and stand up to try and straighten. Then she would ask me to check and each time she would cut it would make it even worse. We're never coming back. read more

We've been taking our son here for haircuts for years and have always been very satisfied. Today was our first visit since before the coronavirus crisis. Not only did my son get a haircut, but I got one too! (My first non-Supercuts haircut in decades!) I'm very happy with both our haircuts. I could certainly see getting my haircut there again. We felt very comfortable and safe with their safety precautions. Everyone wore masks the entire time and we were the only customers (by design with required appointments). We have a toddler boy who is close to 3 and we have been coming to get cuts from Cathy for over a year. This is the new location due to rising rents in the San Mateo area. As for the new location it is pretty much the same as the older spot, regular barber chairs for haircutting and a TV at each station showing cartoons to keep the minions occupied. Who knows they might even be showing Minions at the time your minion is getting a cut. They also have lollipops for the kiddos after they get their hair done as a treat by the cash register. As for the hair cutting Cathy does a great job keeping our son calm and making sure his hair looks neat and clean. Even though he fidgets in the chair his hair always comes out looking straight with no lopsideness. I do highly recommend making a reservation if you are trying to get a haircut during the weekends or afternoons when school lets out early. Speaking with the owner they do have an area setup for froyo but they have not had time to set it up yet as they are getting used to the flow of customers in the new location. TL;DR - So if you need a haircut for your child I highly recommend this Salon. DO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, this place gets busy. read more

It's fast and pretty close to our house, so even though Cathy's not here anymore we've been bringing our kids. They also cut adult hair so I can sneak in a haircut at the same time, though I always feel a little guilty if I see some other kids waiting for me to finish. This past Saturday we made appointments for 5pm, and my four year-old son and I were on our way home 20 minutes later. It seems to be less crazy later in the afternoon towards dinnertime than early/mid afternoon. Things that the kids like: TVs (we watched something with Minions) and lollipops. My son used to have a harder time with haircuts (with good reason - who wants sharp blades and buzzy things next to your head?), and we tried a few of the places between San Carlos and San Mateo, and he cried at all of them, but we liked Lil' Couture (and Cathy) the best. I'm glad that he's matured and we can keep bringing him here even though Cathy's moved back up to San Mateo. The new hairdressers are nice and patient and good with him. read more

I arrived for my Saturday morning appointment to find the salon literally crawling with kids. The stylists were in a mad rush, churning kids as fast as they could. Our appointment was pushed back 15 mins, which was understandable given the chaos. I showed the stylist two photos of his hair cut the way it was before it grew out, and to my surprise she called me back 6 minutes later. She thought he was done. I was appalled. She'd completely ruined the style, which was originally a longer surfer shag, and turned it into what looked like a grown-out pixie cut that was asymmetrical. On a boy, no less. I paid up and got him out of there, fast. I decided not to bother trying to get her to fix it, because 1) she hadn't been able to cut it based on his earlier photos, and 2) It was so loud I didn't think she could have heard me clearly. My son wanted his hair cut before his 7th birthday party because it was getting long and he was worried about being mistaken for a girl, and we walked out with him looking like a girl who needed her haircut reshaped. When we got home my husband wanted to know why one side of his hair was half-cut, and why his hair looked worse than it had before. He was ready to take him to the barber, saying a crew cut would have been better. I would say come here if you want simple little kid cuts -- most of the ones I saw looked fine. But if you want anything requiring more than 5 minutes in a chair, go somewhere else. read more

We love this salon! We drive 30 mins every time just to go here because they're amazing with our son's haircuts (he's 2) and they can do my husband's haircut at the same place and same time. We usually go in without an appointment and they always get us right in. They have tons of toys for our son to play with, and they always have cartoons on the tv for him to watch while he's getting his haircut to distract him in front of every chair. He moves a lot and somehow she never misses a snip or messes up. They're great at doing my husbands hair too, they fade the haircut up and it looks great. Love this place! read more

First visit here, and we are so pleased! Vi and Brandon did a fantastic job cutting and highlighting my 11 yo son's hair (yep, he begged for highlights for his birthday present). I've tried many places for him over the years, and this is the best cut and value. They took time to talk to me and my son about exactly what we wanted, and kept communicating throughout the processes. I really appreciate the effort they made to meet our expectations. Both stylists have worked with the previous owner of this salon before the business was transferred. I love how they took their time with my son's cut; I didn't feel rushed like I have in other kids' salons (we stopped going to the one in Burlingame for that reason). The salon was clean and no frills: there is a roomy waiting area, and they gave me a nice cold bottle of water while I waited :). Give them a try! read more

I took my son here when he was 3 and 4 and after a less than mediocre cut (by someone other than Cathy) I decided to try new places. As my son has grown, his hair has been more of a challenge for people to cut. He has very thick and very straight hair. He went for a few years with some really shoddy styles and cuts and I was exhausting all options from $10 quick cuts to $45+ fancy barbers and no one could do it right. I just recently decided to try Lil' Couture again and this time made sure to set the appointment with Cathy specifically. Not only was she was able to squeeze us into a pretty busy day with only a day notice, the cut was the best one my son has had in YEARS! Poor review rating for adult haircut only. They are good for kids haircut. Though I think they could do better on being a little less rough. They rushed and made mistakes for my(adult men's) haircut. When I came back to get it corrected, they try to put the blame back on me saying I may have asked the haircut that way. I was asked to come back in 15 minutes after they are done with an appointment. I go for a walk and decide to add another 15-20 minutes as a buffer. They closed the shop without leaving any message.
