This place is off the charts. We had heard rumors of greatness from our AirBnb host and had to see what it was all about. From food to atmosphere, this place lived up to the hype. They've set up a lovely outdoor space with a deck, picnic tables, and lights, and everyone was wearing masks unless seated and eating (and staff was sanitizing tables between each party). The whole fried fish was crispy, juicy, and tasty, and I'm still dreaming about the mushrooms we ate. Absolutely no idea what was in them but whatever it was, they're doing it right. "Tropical comfort food" wasn't even what we were in the mood for when somebody recommended this place. This was a Saturday evening, we had to wait quite a while but took it for a good sign and were glad we did. The service is super friendly and the food surprisingly delicious. Super flavorful and fun with great fresh produce. Often nice restaurants are nice until you take a close look at the salad leaves on your plate. Often tired or not so fresh looking it's commonly a big differentiator for me. We tried 3 different dishes here and all had super fresh herbs or salad. Super tasty, super fun. Could compare to Miss Lily in the city only it's much tastier! Great find. read more

Lil Deb's is a vibrant, warm, welcoming space serving kick ass food. This is confident cooking full of acid and herbs and heat; it's hard to define and reduce to a single genre, so don't try and do that, it ruins the fun. Just look at the platanos sitting in a sharply acidic pool of avocado crema, deliciously teetering on the edge of overpowering; likewise the pulpo, although both smartly ensure the scales never tip. Deb's boasts a naturalish wine program-- enjoy the impromptu quiz and take them up on the offer of a few tasting pours to choose between the Christian Tschida and Valentina Passalaqua that caught your eye. We (myself, wife and two year old daughter) were in the Hudson area for a wedding weekend and chanced upon this place after googling for a lunch spot. For reasons I'm still not really sure of, it just had me intrigued. We do always try and explore "local"/unique stuff when we're traveling (especially food) and Lil Deb's definitely fit that bill. We actually stopped on the wedding day and glanced at the menu in the window, but decided that we didn't have time to eat before getting ready for the event. We came back the next day though and holy cats am I glad we did. We had: yucca fries with chimichurri, avocado salad, crab and celery salad, and the salchi-pappas-bravas for the wee one. I could ramble about the food forever but I'll just say that it was amazing---and I am not one prone to hyperbole. Super-fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation, and clearly made with a lot of love. Being a bit of a food nerd, I'm pretty sure that I got a little teary-eyed at one point. About halfway in Carla (the chef) stopped by to ask how everything was, and that's when I started to embarrass myself. She is awesome and even obliged me with a photo before we left. I hope the folks of Hudson appreciate this place as much as we did and that they support it, because I want it to be there forever. Another big thanks to Carla (and all of the staff) for one of our favorite food experiences in a long time. Me and my friend visited Hudson last weekend. That was a tiny town so most of the restaurants closed at 6pm. This place is one of those are still opened. We carefully read the reviews before head to the restaurant. However, this place is overpriced. $35-$40 for a whole fried fish is ridiculous. That was not a fanciest place in town at all. We order the Avocado salad because we had no idea they take cash only until we asked them. It's literary basic icebergs with avocados on top. and They should have written "No credit/debit card" on the door. Many customers came in without cash and they have to go across the street to find the ATM. The place is small, and has tiny shop at the front window. the service and salad are ok but still not worth the price. We went to other place that accepted card to fill up our stomaches. read more

The food was tasty (except the oat drink) but overpriced-The fish was market price and the small came out to $45 and our bill came out to $75. Lil Deb's Oasis is a gem in Hudson, and their pop-up, Feugo 69, is every bit as great. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the scallop skewers and flatbread especially. They have delicious cocktails and, perhaps best of all, amazing and delightful service. We loved the silly rhyming announcements they used to let you know when your order was ready. What a magical place! I called for a reservation on Friday and Julia found us a spot at the "chef's counter". Came with my wife and daughter. Upon entering, the colors, music, lights and total vibe just made us forget about the issues of the week. Julia gave us a big hello. We sat right in front of Carla, cooking, wearing a bikini and totally in charge. Food was ALL amazing. Li'l Deb's is extraordinary and my only wish is that they never ever ever close. The atmosphere is very casual, but full of life, warm, joyful and welcoming. It feels like community, it feels like everyone there cares about the place. Honestly that would be enough to make me go back. But the food is amazingly good, thoughtful, and ambitious. That's the part I really didn't expect. A place that feels so utterly unpretentious combined with food that is so wonderfully ambitious and full of care. We ate there twice during a weekend visit to Hudson and had the best time both nights! The food was absolutely amazing, super fresh and inventive, while still being approachable. The atmosphere was fun with great music and funky tropical decor. You can feel that this place is packed with a labor of love which comes through in the vibe, the service and the food most of all. We went to this place after hearing a lot of hype about it, and I'm not sure where these great reviews come from. The aesthetic of the place is funky and entertaining, but the food and service left much to be desired. The portion sizes were very small in proportion to the high prices. We ordered the octopus and received one small three inch piece of octopus on a plate filled with greens. We thought there would be more octopus than that on a plate that cost $18 and purported to be a "plato grande." Having eaten in Latin American restaurants and many in Spain where octopus is served, a "plato grande" would have at least two large pieces of octopus. The Llapingacho appetizer was decent but also small for a $15 plate, especially made with such simple (and cheap) ingredients like a fried egg, potatoes and corn. We had other things as well and left the restaurant hungry, so we actually went to another place in Hudson and had something else to eat for dinner. This is one of the few times we have ever done this. The service and appearance of the employees was also something that did not seem to "go" with the prices of the restaurant. Many of the servers were dressed in clothing that is not appropriate for foodservice: armpits showing and long hair down don't transmit a very hygienic image. Some employees seemed liked they had just rolled out of bed. All the employees were drinking liquids in front of customers, and one filled her water bottle right in the sink used for everything else where food and liquids are handled for customers. I get that you need to hydrate while you work, but being more discreet or going to the back room to do so would be better. The waitstaff also stood around chatting with one another and weren't always attentive to customers, and the restaurant was full. read more

We went for a snack on our way out of town. I was not sure what to expect before entering the small storefront, but I surely was not expecting what I walked into. It was colorful and funky, eclectic and loud, just like the menu which felt like a little bit of here and there. We got the tamale which was a chicken dealie. It was ok-- the ratio of chicken to corn concoction was not ideal. We also got the yuca fries. These were delicious, but too drenched in the garlicky greasy green sauce. I wanted to enjoy even more of the golden yuca morsels, but the sauce was weighing me down. We also got the Thai iced coffee which was not quite sweet enough for my liking, but it was almost there. Now that is a fantastic business attribute but what solidifies their success is the dynamically delicious food, innovative yet not precious, so satisfying and sometimes even enthralling. I really want to give a five star review, because the soul and the spirit of this place are there, but I just can't. The server (who had someone shadowing her) was friendly, but they are understaffed -- hopefully the trainee catches on quickly. After the dinner crowd came in, I was essentially forgotten. No one asked how my meal was until after I had finished eating (appetizer + entree). Normally, I would've taken a look at the dessert options, but was afraid of how long the whole process would take. The wait time definitely put a damper on my experience. The food overall wasn't bad, but not great. It's obvious the seafood for the ceviche wasn't as fresh as it could've been. I also ordered the whole-yellow tail snapper, which was good, but I can't say i'm a fan of the lemon/onion sauce that came on the side. Finally... I sat at the counter and kept having to fight off little bugs. I believe they're wood bugs (or whatever), but it was extremely distracting and it made sitting there (and eating) pretty uncomfortable. Overpriced food, obnoxious hipster yuppie atmosphere, rude wait staff and clearly not a place to go if you aren't a social justice warrior. This establishment is such a glaring example of how gentrification only helps white middle class people and doesn't actually help the community in which it decides to plant its flag. There were many people struggling in this town before a ton of entitled bourgeois white people migrated from the city, and most of those impoverished and struggling locals don't get hired at these kind of places, or eat there (because they are both unwelcome in an unspoken way, and because they cannot afford food at this price). Places like this might help all the transplants and middle to upper class people, but they completely ignore the communities they decide to move into. I was really disappointed in my experience here. The atmosphere was really cute and the reviews were good so I expected more than I should have I guess. I ordered the grilled whole fish which was $45 before tax. I don't usually pay that much for an entree at a nice restaurant, let alone an outdoor tent in the parking lot of a hotel. When I received my fish I noticed a very fishy smell right off bat. The fish clearly wasn't fresh and it was over salted. My sister ordered the scallops and Napa salad and that wasn't good either. Super cool local women moved into dive diner and with a huge amount of vim and vigor transformed the previously tacky space into a lively, colorful and perfectly wholesome restaurant. Way off the main Hudson drag ones curiosity must get the better of you to find this adorable place. The food. You know, I'm gonna tell you that I know the women who own this place. I have to be fair and honest. So, the food. It's tasty, fresh, well presented. But personally... I don't think there's nearly enough. Last night my friend and I shared a salad and a red snapper on a bed of pea shoots. My other friend had the chicken. All delicious. No alcohol. The bill with tax and tip was $90. It just feels like the wrong price for not much food. I will continue going back there but I wanna feel satiated as well as happy to be in a jolly lovely restaurant. read more

I'm in love with Debbie. Not only is she a fox but she took us in on the day of the Halloween snow storm of 2011 when she was about to close shop for the day. We scouted this place out after being turned down from the "diner" on Warren St. because they didn't serve breakfast food. What kind of shit is that?! In the 2 minutes we were in that sorry excuse for a diner we saw them turn down 3 different groups of people looking for breakfast. Is it that big of a deal to crack a few eggs?? To Debbie's house we went. Not only was the group ecstatic that we could get our morning cup of joe but the food was pretty damn good too. Definitely a greasy spoon but sometimes that's exactly what you are looking for. And after a drunken college reunion/Halloween party the night before, that was indeed what the doctor ordered. Most of the group ordered some eggs and bacon but one of Debbie's specials was a triple decker grilled cheese with bacon and sausage that I just couldn't turn down. It was buttery and oozing with cheese and grease. I couldn't be happier walking out of there and the rest of the group felt the same way. After a long day, we travelers came by for a take-out meal, and saw the refrigerator offering food for those in need, and we also saw the commitment to racial justice in the menu. So as nonresidents - particularly a group of queer disabled multiracial friends, we agreed that made it an obvious yes for us to support and visit. But I can't describe the thrill of coming inside the place to pick up our meal - there was such a sense of welcome, and relaxed queer energy and community space that I'd missed for years, but especially since the pandemic started. The music was great, too. When I got back to our car, I was sobbing, and in all the right ways. Thank you, Li'l Deb's! Total Hipster nonsense. Overpriced, under-good, cash only. We made a reservation for nye, were seated at a communal table (fine, whatever), served a very strange "fusion" of foods from their mandatory prix fixe menu, which they abruptly coursed out. Immediately after finishing the fattiest lamb(?) anyone has ever had, topped off with a vegan chia pudding(barf), we were unceremoniously informed it was time to go. The check was presented ($100 each), which we were told was payable in cash only. Nothing against establishments who refuse to exist in the 21st century- hey we gotta dodge the irs somehow- but, to present a bill for $300, push our party out of our table (which was not filled again while I ran to 3 different atms), and then to low-key harass the rest of my party while they were waiting for me to return is just plain bad service. This place was amateurish overall. After multiple outstanding restaurant experiences in thus town, I was surprised that the most expensive also turned out to be kind of the worst. We are surprised to have to write a negative review. We had been so excited to come try lil deb's, but our experience did not match the hype or other positive reviews we saw. Our cocktail was fine, nothing spectacular for a $16 drink. We ordered plantains, hamachi crudo and the big lettuces salad. The hamachi came first and was unfortunately inedible as it was overwhelmingly fishy. The salad came next after a significant wait and was unexpectedly spicy and bitter. It almost seemed to be missing an ingredient to cut the heavy spice and bitterness. We did not enjoy it. The plantains never came and we ended up getting the check early and going elsewhere. The ambiance and decor are very cool, so we were very disappointed to have such subpar food. The hamachi was particularly upsetting as it was clearly not fresh fish. The service was also quite slow, but given COVID we were willing to overlook that. This review is exclusively reflective of the food. We would recommend going elsewhere. read more
