Great recommendation for a local delicious place to eat while staying in East Chatham. The Rib Eye was divine.

My husband and I love the Chatham and Hudson valley region, and it had been a number of years since we'd visited. The pizza place we wanted to go to had since closed (so sad!), so we decided to try Bimi's. Their specialty is definitely cheese, since they have the specialty cheese ship next door, so we started with the cheese board. All the cheese was divine. For dinner, I got the pork chop and my husband got the linguine Alfredo pasta dish which of course was quite rich and heavy. Both dishes were tasty, and I took a few bites of the chop back to our dog as a special little treat. The ambiance and service were the best part of my experience (the bathroom included). We would come to Bimi's again. read more

Very nice ambience and space--you gotta check out the bathrooms! Excellent, friendly service. Very nice bottle selection and it's nice that you can get a glass of any bottle on the menu. Our favorite item of the night was the cheese plate, which was expertly paired with jams. If I gave a review for just drinks and app this would be 5 stars. I'm taking one star off because the prices are so high for what you get...For example: $27 for Chicken & Dumplings as an entree is absolutely wild. If you want anything other than soup, mac n cheese or burgers, the entrees start at $40+....I had a great time but was hungry 20 min after I left. Personally I would view this as more of a special occasion restaurant. I would also come back just for drinks & apps, or give brunch a try. read more

My experience at Bimi's was horrible !! I was seated 2 tables away from parents who were negligent in managing their young child who was screaming relentlessly " at the top of her lungs" !! The restaurant manager also failed to intervene and allowed this disruptive behavior to continue. That being said, my meal was very good. My wife had a vegetarian meal that had to be returned to the kitchen because it was too salty. And the wait staff were very attentive. Unfortunately, we had to leave in the middle of our meal because the screaming was unbearable and intolerable. Needless to say we won't be returning to Bimi's ever again !! read more

What a lovely place! Sat downstairs in the speakeasy and what a cool vibe. Service was great, down to the bartenders. Drinks and food were delicious! The pasta could've been a little less al dente, but overall amazing. Will definitely be back! read more

Stopped in town to see the taconics culture Park and Mary was awesome and explained all of Ron's work and then we started to get something to eat so we stopped by Chatham. We went to Bimi Cheese Shop years ago and decided to try the restaurant. We were seated outside our waiter didn't clean the table just put everything down. We ordered the charcuterie board. He brought that out in a beer my friend ordered and he never told us what cheeses they were. Never offered us any specials never read discussions desserts were on the menu never gave them to us we ended up deciding not to to eat Andre because we were stuck by the awesome charcoal griller board. So my review is mainly on the specific waiter.. the woman who welcomed us helped us find a spot when I had most people had reservations. The waiter is why it's getting three stars. read more

If I could describe this experience in one word it would be "average". To explain why I would like to talk about my experience with this place. To start I want to talk about the website, when my Fiancée and I looked the menu was different from the one viewed when we got to the restaurant. While this blindsided us it was not a deal breaker. However after we found other options that we enjoyed on paper we then had our drinks and appetizers come in. Overall the drinks were not that great. They weren't bad, we drank them but it was underwhelming. The lemonade my Fiancée got had little flavor and the Sugar Shack alcoholic drink I got was mostly ice, not too out of the ordinary, but the flavor was not as sweet as I thought which left me a bit disappointed. The appetizer of bread with butter was good, however I found the herb flavor a bit strong and it overpowered everything else. Then the main entree came out, I had enjoyed my pork with broccolini however my Fiancée had enjoyed her chicken and dumplings a bit less. The dumplings had a strong mint and lemon flavor that permeated through everything else. Without the dumplings though the rest of the meal was good. After we finished our meals we were curious about dessert hoping that it would save the meal from the negatives and close out everything nicely. However the apple galette with ice cream on top was average, the galette was warm and fine however the ice cream was freezer burnt and that dampened our opinion of it all... Now I understand that while the meal was a bit disappointing I will say the atmosphere was wonderful. Good artwork, romantic lighting with candles at our tables, it was wonderful ambiance. The service was good, they were prompt with our orders and were helpful. Overall though when taking about the ~$150 (tip included) bill we had at the end of the meal, everything mostly fell into expectations and nothing really stood out or exceeded expectations which is what is contributing to the 3 stars. I feel if it was a different menu and earlier in the night maybe things would have been different, but as it stands this experience was underwhelming for what was paid. I hope all the best for the owner and this restaurant. I see the passion in what is being attempted here and I support it. Though that doesn't mean that a meh night should go overlooked. read more

Bimi's Canteen & Bar opened this weekend next door to Bimi's Cheese Shop in Chatham. This new restaurant and bar offers contemporary American cuisine with a intimate yet casual atmosphere. They have the main upstairs dining room with table seating and bench seating along the wall. They also have a cozy downstairs speakeasy bar area with seating at the bar and table & long bench seating along the brick walls. They offer a community inspired food menu using locally sourced ingredients including cheese plates, salads, soup, bread service, main entrees (pasta, steak, chicken, pork, fish, burger), and desserts (house made and from Lost Lamb Patisserie). They also have an extensive drinks menu with cocktails, mixed drinks, beer and wine. They also have 6 beers on tap and an espresso machine at the bar. Light folksy music played over the speakers. I made a recommended reservation online earlier in the day before I headed to Bimi's Canteen & Bar for dinner. When I arrived, I decided to be seated downstairs at the speakeasy bar since upstairs dining room seemed busy. I stuck with ice water since I had a long drive ahead after dinner. I picked out two dishes to try including the: Macaroni Gratin ($18 plus tax) Candied Tomatoes, Bacon Lardons, Gruyere and Pecorino checse, and Torchetti Pasta. This dish was served very hot in an iron skillet and this Mac & cheese was very rich. The Fowl ($28 plus tax) Yellow Bell Farms Chicken on the Bone grilled, served with saffron rice, house-fermented Pak Dong (pickled cabbage), with grilled lime. The good size chicken was chargrilled and very juicy. The saffron rice and pickled cabbage were nice accompiments. I finished my entrees and ordered dessert: Fruit Galette ($9 plus tax) Seasonal fruit (strawberry rhubarb) baked in a flaky rustic tart served warm and topped with whipped cream. The check total was $59.40 with tax and before tip. There was a QR code on the receipt which accesses online payment through Toast. Overall, this was a very nice relaxing dinner with 2 bartenders taking care of me. My ice water was refilled several times, shaken with ice by Andre. The food I had was excellent from start to finish. I would definitely return here and I would make sure to reserve and sit in the downstairs bar area again. read more

I met with an old friend there, and we must've sat outside for hours just enjoying the view on the street, the pleasantness of the other diners and the friendliness of the staff. The cheese shop connected to the restaurant is also marvelous! The sandwiches were wonderful and there are plenty of luscious, gourmet foods and chocolate to choose from. The Chef even popped by and was kind enough to make me a latte while she was there Just checking in! What a great experience - I can't wait to go again soon. read more

This is in every way a 5 star restaurant. I am surprised by the sprinkling of negative reviews I see here (but it's yelp, I guess I should have expected as much, check google, the reviews are much more accurate) but I can FEEL the sense of entitlement and lack of any humility in their reviews. Sad, I hope those reviewers can fill whatever hole is in their hearts. The food, the ambiance, the service, it is ALL top notch. So, we two had utterly different experiences of the food. My chicken and dumplings were lovely, well-balanced, slightly floral. Tasty, hearty winter fare without being heavy. His boulliabaise was in a broth so salty it physically jolted him, and me when I tasted it. Did you ever accidentally pour salt instead of sugar I to something? That's what it tasted -- felt -- like. Something had gone awry when I reserved online (which I could have realized, not getting a confirmation email), so they seated us with a proviso that they'd need the table in 2 hours. It was accommodating, but far less than warm and fully gracious. Their schtick was that the drinks menu is at your place but the server -- not the host who seats you -- would bring the food menu when she arrived. Why? It put the customer at their convenience. The server, who arrived less quickly than one would think considering we (and a total of 2 other tables) were there at 5 pm was pleasant but didn't know what the fish dish on today's menu was, though she used our question to remind herself to go find out. Bread and butter cost $10. All told, we felt slightly uncomfortable, slightly unwelcome, and not hipster enough for their taste, before the salty broth even showed up. This was meant to be a birthday celebration but instead, we left as soon as we reasonably could. With a 20% tip and bubbly water but no alcohol, the bill for 2 was $117. We won't be back. read more

I will start this review by saying the canteen is drop dead gorgeous and the food was the BEST food I've had around Berkshire county in years, possibly ever. With all that said, the service was extremely disappointing. We had many issues during our NYE dinner and nothing was done to remedy or acknowledge them. With 3 people and a bill of $550 before tip I would expect attention to be given when clients have a issue(s). I called and left them a message on resy about my experience and was ignored both times. Extremely let down by the way the owners have handled this. I wish I could say RUN to Chatham NY and have the best meal of your life, but due to the lack of service and being ignored I can not. read more

Bimi unveiled their mid-summer menu last night and my mouth is still tingling from delight the next day----the tomato based gazpacho was simply sublime. I might have to go back today to get more----Ellen and the whole staff work their hearts out to present great food and ambiance to our community every day and we are so grateful. PS. Lovely atmosphere and wonderful service; however, I ordered the "The Power Plant" dish, a lentil and red bean stew, on a cold winter night. I expected a much larger dish than what was brought to the table. For a dish that cost $30, the amount of food was not sufficient. Perhaps they should call this dish: "The Powerless Plant." We will return to try again because my husband's meal was delicious (Mac n Cheese), but this dish was a real disappointment. read more

Wow! A stunner of a restaurant! Beautiful, rustic decor with fine details attended to. The food is amazing. We loved everything we had. Pea soup was fresh, clean and delicious. The ricotta cheese in the tomato salad really popped. Having their cheese shop next door means you're not eating supermarket-quality cheese. My pork chop was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. My wife's agnolotti was beautiful and again, the cheese inside was incredible. Do not pass in the fruit galette for dessert! It was perfect. We had some delicious cocktails and a terrific Riesling. This is a restaurant you don't expect to find in a small village like Chatham but it's a welcome addition. A breath of fresh air to the local dining scene. Can't wait to come back! read more

Ever since the Blue Plate stopped being careful about cooking hamburgers, my husband and I hoped for a local place to get a good hamburger in our home village of Chatham. Recently, we decided to give Bimi's a try. First service and atmosphere were great, as well as music, the hamburger I ordered was cooked well, very tasty. fries were good, however the roll that the hamburger was served on was not up to the juiciness of the hamburger and fell apart and made eating less than enjoyable. Please reconsider the roll so that you can become our Friday Night fancy hamburger joint. read more

What a welcome addition to Chatham! I've been a fan of the cheese shop for years, and their new restaurant is top notch. Everything on the menu delights--house-made pasta is delectable, steak and pork chops are tasty, and best of all is the fish (and accompanying sweet potatoes). The cocktails are innovative and scrumptious, dessert is lovely (especially the galette), and, of course, the cheese plates are phenomenal. The decor is warm and inviting, with especially nice lighting (low enough to flatter patrons, yet bright enough to help them read the menu). The restroom design is a treat, and the basement bar is a lovely bonus, not to be missed. read more

Top notch from soup to nuts! Well actually, there were no nuts. But there was a pea soup and it was delicious! My wife's chicken was fantastic and the pasta with mushrooms made my Italian heart , and stomach , very happy. Great mocktails with complex flavors. Service was spot on, ambiance and decor very comfortable. Not inexpensive but definitely bang for the buck. Yes, there are places a few dollars cheaper but the food quality is way lower than Bimi's. Make a reservation, this place is already hopping and it just opened. Almost left out the cool bar in the basement. Very nice! read more

i'm really disappointed by this place, unfortunately. there were just so many misses for me: 1) the food was mediocre at best. the burger was just okay, the fat was not trimmed from the duck, the macaroni and cheese was watery, and the rest of the food was generally unimpressive. 2) the service was really bad. the staff was not attentive at all, sent us the wrong drinks and salad, and forgot to replace our silverware between courses. i had to borrow my friend's butter knife to cut my pork chop. 3) the cheese plate was soooo sad and pathetic looking. i mean...this place started out as a cheese shop! the plating was so soulless and the portion size was sad. it was also forgotten about and then finally served with our entrees? i would not recommend bimi's at all unfortunately. i wish they never expanded. i would love to do a redo of our dinner, but i would not pay to come back. read more

Our recent visit to Bimi's Canteen and Bar, occasioned by a wedding anniversary, was altogether enjoyable. The interior, predicated on relics of early Northeastern industry (exposed brick, rolling doors, giant cogwheels) was attractive. Some of the tables were set with wooden banquettes against the wall. (the HVAC ducts blow out on your ankles which might bother some). A few others are installed in corners and window niches. We did not explore the downstairs bar but did see people going there. We did not notice any returning. Speaking of the bar, the cocktail menu is intriguing enough to get one off his usual pre-prandial martini and willing to explore other dimensions, in this case the vieux carré, a delicious mixture of rye, cognac, sweet vermouth and bitters that was delivered in a glass with a single mammoth ice cube. The white cosmo itself was poured around an orchid encased in ice. Both were delicious, and not too gimmicky. Excellent drinks for "grownups". The menu is fairly minimalist with a range of different starters and half a dozen mains, one from each protein group. We tried the roasted artichoke with allium aioli, tasty but very messy (note to staff: please deliver with a finger bowl, cleansing wipes or fire hose for de-messing). The pork belly on Johnny cakes, a mini-takeoff on pancakes and bacon was okay, but there are better choices. The black bass with a tomato and cannellini bean sauce was rich and delicious. The bouillabaisse both was excellent and aside from the eternal dilemma of how to eat the langoustines (or were they crayfish?) the elements were a decent rendition of the dish. While the portion seemed a little on the slim side, it was in fact more than enough so that the three or four potatoes were unnecessary. Bimi's has aspirations of a top-tier dining experience in a comfortable setting. Thus, when I mention its single true shortcoming, it's in the interest of completing the experience without a glitch. Simply put, the waitstaff needs to be better trained. Our extremely nice and eager-to-please server was completely ignorant of the dishes, their ingredients and preparation and pleaded the "new menu" defense which I'm sure was correct, but that puts the onus on management to make sure the front line workers are informed. Further, and this is just a general pet peeve, please ask the waitstaff to refrain from addressing the customers as "guys" and never, ever, (cross your heart and hope to die), use the phrase "Are you still workin' on it" when asking whether you and your dish are done with each other. Bimi's Canteen & Bar... For the sake of full disclosure I've worked with the owners for over twenty years in the television industry. They have brought the same dedication and amazing attention to detail that has resulted in their tremendously successful careers, to their wonderful new restaurant. They have thought of EVERY detail from the whimsical videos playing in the rest rooms to the sugar cubes for your espresso... they have missed nothing. The menu is inventive and perfectly executed... Watermelon Gazpacho?! Whoa! The unique presentation of the Calamari appetizer was wonderful. Bouillabaisse?! You don't find that as the seafood option very often... what a treat. Others in my group enjoyed perfectly cooked steaks and the slightly smoky Mac & Cheese. Of course the cheese plates are spectacular. This is one of those meals you won't forget! But wait did I mention the speakeasy downstairs? The perfectly appointed room features an amazing menu of craft cocktails AND six draft beers to choose from... including Ommegang Rare Vos... you simply don't find that on tap anywhere!! We've been to Canteen twice (so far) and both dinners were fantastic! The selection of cocktails is creative and explores the wonders of mixology beyond the standard cocktail options. The wine list thoughtfully curated. I was particularly happy to find a rather unusual Müller-Thurgau from Italy's Alto-Adige region as a by-the-glass option. What about the food? Well, that is absolutely remarkable, too: the creativity at Canteen continues seamlessly from glass to plate. That applied to the Burger, the Bouillabaisse, the pork chop, the duck breast, the salmon and the apple galette. Every single dish we had was simply great! I found the service to be particularly friendly and attentive. I am surprised by some of the comments in other reviews. My wife, my son and I found the overall atmosphere at Canteen on both nights very pleasant to say the least and left both times in a cheerful mood. What else can we ask for? read more

Bottom line, the food and drinks are really good here and it's a welcome addition to Chatham Main Street. However, Bimi is very popular, and it can be a little chaotic when it's busy, to the point of distracting from the great food and beautiful interior. The best advice for now is to go there on quieter nights. I would skip weekends completely until the summer is over. read more

Hmmm. I visited about a month ago with my wife for our anniversary. Nice ambiance for sure. Most of the food was very good, but it wasn't fantastic. My porkchop was definitely undercooked, and the service was off. The thing that bummed us out the most was that they were changing the menu at the end of the week, and did not have many items on the menu. If I had known, I'd have gone elsewhere and tried Bimi's another time. It's frustrating to read about things that sound delicious but you can't have. At least remove them from the menu. My wife was prepared to order the pasta, only to be reminded that it wasn't available. We were notified that they were training someone and she was assisting at our table, but was much more present than our actual waitress. She even took my 2nd drink order which then took forever to get because our actual waitress thought she had my order wrong. Left without trying dessert, but will probably give them another shot. read more
