We had service from Lil Rooter on January 13 to help detect a major leak at our home. He started off by stating how honest he was, which I thought was strange. He charged us $295 to crawl under the house and told us that it was all dry under the house and he couldn't detect a leak. He tried to talk us into a replacement of all the galvanized pipes under our house, even though he couldn't find a leak in them. I contacted another plumber and he found a major leak under our kitchen, and another smaller leak under the hallway outside our main bathroom. I am very dissatisfied with the service we got from Lil Rooter. He missed the major leak under our kitchen and in the hallway. I have asked him to consider a partial refund of the money we paid for him to crawl under the house, but have not received a reply. I know he crawled under the house, but he didn't find the major leaks that we had. He told us it was all dry. That wasn't true, because he apparently didn't conduct a thorough enough inspection. read more

Absolutely, bait and switch. They have an ad on Craigslist where they advertise a $75 discount. When you call them and ask for a simple clog removal, they'll quote you about $200. Then you let them that you have called regarding their $75 discount and they start telling you that Roto-Rooter charges $300 to clear a drain and hang up in your face. I recently had two plumbing issues and called Lil Rooter. For the first one they advised that my plumbing was leaking in the pipe behind the shower and the whole surround would need to come out to fixit, estimate up to $32,000 to fix it all. A second plumber simply replaced the cartridge for $300. On the same day I asked Lil Rooter to fix our outdoor faucet that they had repaired last summer ($600). They said it was out of warranty (it had been 13 months instead of 12 months for the warranty). They charged $2500 for this repair. The second plumber told us this repair should have only been $3-400. I contacted Lil Rooter subsequently to give them a chance to make things right. No response. We had leaking pipes, and eventually a major pipe burst in the walls of one of our bathrooms which created horrible amounts of mold and mildew.We called Lil Rooter and they showed up the same day. We received excellent service, and everything was explained to us before any of the work began. They had to take apart the bathroom floor and walls on one side and start from scratch removing all the mold, and then rebuilding the bathroom from the ground up. Rommel kept us in the loop the whole way through. He interfaced with our insurance company and went over and above to make sure we were satisfied. DO NOT trust Rommel because he preys on people who are vulnerable and are desperate. He is a major crook and a scammer. Please listen to the low stars on yelp! They have a common issue with his overpriced services and work that doesn't need to be done. One star is too much to give! I would give a -20 if I could! He likes to misdiagnose so he can do big jobs that cost thousands and then recommend you to use your insurance. And pretend that there was a problem after jack hammering your concrete. NEVER sign anything because he will promise that your insurance will pay and when they don't (because it takes time for payment) he will threaten to put a lien on your house because you have $10,000 laying around. He also has "guys" that do other house work that are probably not even licensed so he can pay them crap and charge the client tons more. He claims they can build houses and they do excellent work. NOT! We had our shower clogged for the second time in our upstairs master bath which then leaked to our kitchen ceiling downstairs. We had a couple of plumbers come out and 1 tried to snake it with no luck. Some said they wouldn't even try because it was an upstairs bathroom. So I came across Rommel and lil rooter and he seemed good and knowledgeable. He was a good talker (BS). Says don't worry I'll take care of it, no problem. He tried snaking a couple of places with no luck. Then cameras with no luck as well. He said it would be a big job and that I should contact my homeowners insurance and tell them it was an emergency work and that they already started. Then he said he needed to cut open the ceiling and see where the leak is coming from and he PROMISED that it would look like nothing happened. Guess what?? It was crap. And Guess what?? He said he can fix it but it will cost me! WHAT?? I know! He also had to jack hammer our kitchen floor to find out where the clog is in 2 places and use the camera. So he "claims" he found the clog and saw it on the camera out to the street. He said it looked like a big ball. I wish I could have seen it. Long story short the insurance appraiser approved of him to work on the house but will not pay anywhere close to the amount he was asking. He said it was a ridiculous amount. And it was. So we had to pay $10,000 out of pocket and of course we didn't have that because Rommel said that the insurance will pay! With the threat of putting a lien we had to scrounge and borrow to pay him! On a side note, he admitted that he was doing an insurance scam on his house to have some work done and this is why he didn't want to meet one of the agents because it may be the same one that will visit his house. My first clue that I should have stayed away was when he drove up to collect his payment in a lamborghini or ferrari(Forget which one). And I recently saw him in a brand new hummer! How can someone live with themself knowing that they rip people off to live a lavish lifestyle. It's beyond me! But fact is there are so many reasonably charging plumbers and internet special offers going on the internet (about 20-40% cheaper than lil rooter's quote), MAKE SURE you ALWAYS get a second quote. ESPECIALLY if it's an emergency service call. (Yes, I had used Lil Rooter before for an emergency job.) He charges 5% if you use credit card for payment. Rommel seems cool enough but his prices are sky high. His guys spoke profanity in spanish, so they were rude. I had them fix a gas leak in my house but I still had a leak underground. The price they gave me for the underground was twice as much as I expected. Also he wasn't planning on using the best materials. Finally I found a very professional guy to do my underground for a fraction of Rommel's price. When PG&E came back to turn my gas on they said my stove was incorrectly connected and would leak. I very highly recommend Rommel, his company Lil Rooter, and his crew who have now done work for me at my residence twice. Rommel is extremely professional, knowledgeable, trustworthy and fair. He has done two major jobs at my home and I have been completely and happily satisfied with all the work done. I found that being able to view the sewer line problems I had using his camera hookup was so helpful in seeing and understanding exactly what the problems were. He and his crew worked efficiently and had what I consider a major job done quickly. It took a few days, but they were always careful to be sure I had full use of my plumbing each night when they left. In addition to tunneling under my house, they had to jackhammer through a concrete slab and also my porcelain tile at one portion of the job, and the area was re-tiled perfectly and left spotless. He and his crew were creative in finding a less-than-obvious way to fix a difficult access problem in a way that left no visible sign of their work. I can't say how much I appreciated that they went the extra mile in working out that solution, which saved me from losing cabinet space for them to route a pipeline. Rommel's crew were extremely neat, pleasant and respectful of my home. In addition to all of the above, Lil Rooter's prices are very competitive. I thought that this would be a good experience but, I was wrong! Rommel who is the owner and plumber came out 1/12 hours late and wasted valuable time. He removed toliets that I asked him not to. He kept putting off the installation of the kitchen sink and ran out multiple times to his truck. The work he did complete was actually not finished at all. I had to hire another plumber to fix the sink that was leaking and the tub water drain still is not set right. I contacted him because each item he touched was not completed as he stated it was and his timeframe which he quoted for all of the items listed for installation was not so. He never offered to come back to correct it or even give a discount for the inconvience. He told me to sue him for the money if I wanted it back.
