Napolean used to do good work for us which is why we called him to do an install. But when we called on him yesterday to install 2 kitchen faucets and water filter, things went pretty wrong: - he couldn't figure out how to get water to come out because he didn't install a particular valve (his logic was that valves plug up) - he couldn't figure out how to get the sensors to work - he couldn't install the faucet for the water filter because he said it needed just one inlet but when I called the manufacturer, they said there is a way to install it without using all the hoses that comes with it - he had to drill a hole in our marble counter tops to add the water filter faucet but he chipped it and then didn't say anything He was here from 9:30 am - 12 and charged us $2200 which sounds high for the time he was here and the quality of the work. read more

I called a different company first, but that company only worked on sewer laterals, and they referred me to Service 4 Plumbing. Getting a referral from another company that has high reviews was a really good sign for me. If you have a good company and are willing to refer people to another company, that takes some trust. So, I called Service 4 Plumbing on a Sunday afternoon and got directly to Napolean. He agreed to meet me the next day at my place in El Cerrito. The work was to repair a leak in a cast iron house side sewer line. He was very knowledgeable, answered all my questions, gave me a quote, then once I signed, got the job done in about an hour. The sewer line under the concrete slab floors of four apartments corroded and collapsed in places, a very major item to replace. Napoleon was recommended. He strongly recommended hydro jetting. His quoted price was less than sewer replacement but still a huge expense. I called other plumbing companies that used hydro jetting to compare. Napoleon's price was many times anybody else's. Worst, hydro jetting was not recommended for residential because it could spray sewage all over baths and Kitchens, and was not the correct solution for this problem anyway. So this cautionary tale is that going with Napoleon could cost you many times the correct price, cause other damage, and not even take care of your problem. read more

One STAR: Goes to the owner, Napoleon, of Service 4 Plumbing. I will say that Napoleon's name certainly fits him. Actually, one STAR isn't low enough due to the owner's extreme over-pricing. We believe the owner took advantage of our ages, which are 75 and 77. WE FOUND OUT: We later asked two different plumbing companies what they would have charged, and both companies said $7,500 (NOT $13,872, twice the price due to us being seniors. We should have known better, because Napoleon wanted his money BEFORE the job even started. And, he never came back to the plumbing job to check it out, because he already had our money. However, we appreciated this company's 5 STAR workers: Luis and Eligil, hard workers that kept us informed by taking cell pics before and after job. Also, the office lady, Debbie, was informative and accommodating. Napoleon is lucky to have these three employees. WHAT PIPES Were REPLACED by Service 4 Plumbing? We had 55 year old bad sewer pipes replaced due to gray water leakage under our home, they cleaned out the sewer pipe to the street, and installed a T on the clean-out pipe, and re-cemented the clean-out area. RESTORATION COMPANY: Anyway, before the sewage pipe replacement began, we had a 5 STAR restoration company: "Fire and Water Damage Recovery" with decent prices scrape the wet surface under our house and remove the wet soil, so the plumbers could work for $2,500. PRICE: We paid Napoleon $13,872, and we later learned the job to replace our sewage pipes and clean out drainage pipe to street and to re-cement clean-out pipe area should have cost $7,500. However, we believe in KARMA. Napoleon later gave us an estimate to finish plumbing the rest of the house for an additional $13,000 which would have been to repipe the rest of our home $13,872 + $13,000 = almost $27,000 We should have been charged $17,000 for sewage replacement and complete re-Piping of our home. Instead, he would have charged $10,000 over the other two companies BOTTOM LINE: We hired AAA Afordable Plumbing, and they are such an honest and dependable plumbing company. They repiped everything throughout our home with cooper pipes, etc for $9,500 with a 5 YEAR GUARANTEE. We paid them AFTER they finished. AAA PLUMBING's owner stayed throughout the whole job with his 6-man crew. We felt we were in GOOD HANDS as through the years AAA Afordable Pumping has 870+ wonderful comments on YELP. This company even put down drop cloths throughout our home for the crew to walk on while working. Also, when AAA Affordable Plumbing replaced the pipes in both showers, and they didn't break any tiles on the tiled walls of both showers. Not entirely sure about there company and services. You know i payed for the work at my parents house. But things were off no taxes on receipt it was like i was paying cash under table. Endings is entitled to get payed for there work. But when material is 1/16 of estimate and the rest is labor works out to be $450 an hour when they finish up. Whomever it was who came to represent this company deserve a big fat "0" star, as it was evident early on that these two men knew little-to-nothing about the simple toilet-flushing fix and simple leaky bathroom sink fix. I was quoted $350.00 for EACH, and was even told that I may as well just buy an entirely new toilet (the toilet was only a few years old,) and just days ago I had it fixed by another reputable plumber for $150. Even at that, it was just replacing a part in the back of the toilet, but at a going rate, not a rip-off rate. He actually went out and just bought the part. Then Service 4 Plumbing guy with the high quote told me the exact same thing about fixing the leaky faucet "not a washer problem, you need an entirely new vanity, $375.00." The same OTHER plumber just days ago fixed the leak by replacing the faucet itself (was old and corroded) for $150. He recommended where I buy it, and even offered to pick it up for me. So for BOTH repairs, it cost just over $300.00, not more than twice that amount, as quoted by Service 4 Plumbing. I will NEVER call Service 4 Plumbing again, and can only think that whomever gave them a higher rating, had different people, more honest and legitimate, come to fix their problems. read more

I called these guys because my toilet was "singing" when I flushed it. I researched on the internet, and I had convinced myself it was a plugged air vent going to the roof. When the two guys arrived (an hour early, during lunch), they examined the toilet and properly diagnosed the problem as coming from the valve feeding the toilet. They said the recommended solution was to replace the valve, and replace the innards of the toilet as well. I was floored when they quoted me over $600, and said I might as well replace the whole toilet. Since they said it was the value, I leaned down and gave it a half a turn counterclockwise That solved the singing pipe, and my problem was solved. I asked them how much do I owe them just for showing up. They said $89, I paid them and showed them the door. I think these two were shysters trying to rip me off. Since they were representing the company, I can only assume their company is dishonest as well. I give these guys the most negative review possible. I would like to add information to my review that might be helpful to others. When the plumbing and sewer repairs were being done at my property, Napoleon suggested that these very expensive and extensive repairs would likely be covered by insurance - a possibility I hadn't thought of. I decided to open a claim with my insurance company. After I provided all documents and receipts to the insurance adjuster, he, of course, wanted to see the property and talk about the technical aspects of the repairs. Needless to say I'm not capable of talking about technical plumbing issues. Napoleon met with me and the adjuster and explained everything to the adjuster's satisfaction. Napoleon also coordinated calls and meetings with the adjuster and other contractors where necessary. Long story short, my claim was accepted and I received a substantial reimbursement of my costs. I used a lesser experienced plumber to install a water line for my ice maker, only to end up with a terrible leak. In a hyper emergency, I phoned Service4Plumbing, who I found in the Yellow Pages and immediately connected because of the woman's face and the posture of her holding her head in anxiety. I phoned and asked for someone to come asap. Napoleon came within an hour. He immediately repaired the problem after having given me 3 options of repair, based on cost. I was so relieved and his work was professional and clean. But that's lesser than why I'm giving a 5-star rating. In the madness of turning off the water, which was flooding my kitchen and why i needed immediate response from a plumber, I inadvertently turned off my water heater, and if you're anything like me, I hate nothing more than relighting the pilot light. I phoned again at 9:30pm the same evening and Napoleon CALMLY walked me thru the relighting of my pilot. I don't know about you, but as a female, I find anything to do with gas or fire completely frightening, and I'm telling you, the problem was corrected in no time flat. This morning our 12-13 year old water heater finally gave out. We called Service 4 Plumbing right away and made an appt. for a little later in the day. Napoleon saw our name on his list and came within 30 minutes! (He did not leave any job undone to come. He was actually finishing one job when we called). I must say even when we started using Service 4 Plumbing they were very timely and he always calls if by chance he runs late. We have been using Service 4 Plumbing for many years. They have done small and large projects for us including replacing all our old pipes with copper ones. Napoleon (owner) is great and has a lot of integrity. He stays on site 95% of the time and carefully checks all his work. He is most concerned with doing every job right thinking about the long term concerns. If something is wrong, he will do it over. I am very grateful for Napoleon's help! Here's what happened. I was desperately calling plumbers just after 5 pm because I'd gotten an estimate from Ben Franklin to replace my entire water service piping. It was going to cost $13K+. The plumber from Ben Franklin sounded knowledgeable and nice, and they offered financing too, and could do it the next morning, and I had a huge leak, so in desperation I almost went for it -- but a friend convinced me I had to get another estimate. I called many plumbers, but since it was after hours, none answered the phone -- except Napoleon. I spoke with him and he promised to go to my house the next morning at 8 to check it out. When he got there, at first he gave me an even higher estimate to replace all the pipes, but then he excitedly told me he had located the leak and it could be fixed for $2200. He and his guys did it within the hour. Now, $2200 sounds like a lot for an hour's worth of work, even if it did take 4 guys. I have no way of knowing if that was a fair price or not, but I do know it was a whole lot better than paying $13K for a complete water service pipe replacement, so as long as this repair holds, I'm extremely happy and relieved! (Napoleon also promised that if the fix didn't work, he wouldn't charge me. If the fix should break, I'll report back on Yelp whether he honors his word. But I'm hoping that won't happen.) By the way, the Ben Franklin guy also told me I should replace my sewer pump (another $4K) and Napoleon says the sewer pump is fine. I hope he's right. read more

I'm a senior citizen who feels completely taken for granted. I looked up the part numbers from Lowe's of the parts installed in my home. A bathroom faucet at Lowe's cost $75.59, I was charged $589 for the installation. Kitchen faucet at Lowe's $107.15, and I was charged $529 for the installation. A $40 cartridge and stem for my bathtub was installed for $367. Total of about $225 in parts and my total bill was $1,485. He was here for about 2.5 hours, so that would mean about $500/hour for labor. The bill wasn't itemized by parts and labor, but it just seems really high to me. read more

I estimate that they billed about $250 per hour for each worker. They used 3 workers on the job when I think 2 would have been sufficient. But if I could do it over, I would have kept looking - I think it should be possible to get a good job done for less money. I had called this place for an over the phone estimate in which I was told that they don't offer estimates over the phone even though it's just for hydrojetting and running a camera through my clean out drain. So I made an appointment for the following day. Napoleon and his crew came out to give me an estimate. They opened my clean out drain before even knocking on my door. When we came outside he gave us an estimate. The second we told them we are still pricing other companies, Napoleon became extremely rude and said to his team "on to the next site." We asked them to put the covers back onto our clean out drain and Napoleon refused. And just hopped back into his truck. We then insisted that his employee to do it, all he did was threw the cap back without screwing it on and then put the cover back on. How rude?! Even if this company end up being cheaper than the other companies I quoted (which was not the case!), I wouldn't even want to hire them because of the way they treated the situation. As I consumer, I am entitled to price out different companies prior to deciding which company I want to go with. No need to be rude when someone decide not to use you at the time being. Way too expensive. I had a sewer lateral leak. Yes I signed the estimate for $880 but didn't realize that it would only take two guys an hour and half to complete the work. I feel ripped off. And for that price you don't even get a dvd. The camera alone was $250. Now I need to get the camera work done again so I can give it to the successful bidder for lateral replacement. A competitor, Pelican Plumbing, does the same work for $285. That's $600 less. Service 4 Plumbing was recommended by Streamline Plumbing who does lateral replacement. Not sure if I'll let them bid on the work, but if they do, they'll have to come in $880 below the next best bid. I stand by my review, having read Napolean's response. The price was exorbitant. He and his coworker found ways to stay busy for an extra hour and half after being notified of my negative review. I made my views known to Napolean and that's what prompted the 15% discount. A business with integrity would price their work appropriately, not look at customers as "marks" to be gouged. And here's a further update - another company, ACE Sewer Laterals came out and scoped it for no charge, and determined that the lateral had not been reconnected to the city (Napolean mistakenly told me that he had scoped it clear to the main). I contacted the City and they made the repair. I still need the upper portion of my lateral repaired or replaced, but this was an important first step that cost nothing. read more

Look no further. They are the best! I called them in for what I thought would be a small repair that quickly ballooned to a major & expensive job, a sewer lateral replacement. After receiving their initial estimate, Napoleon phoned me that evening to drop the price, without me even asking. The fine folks at Streamline recommended Service 4 to fix my offset sewer lateral. Good choice. They were not the cheapest estimate, but promised on the spot that it could be done immediately and completed before the end of the day. When a river of unknown filth is flowing down the yard, waiting "a few weeks" is not worth $100. Within 15 minutes of my signature, a crew was digging the hole. They excavated a wider, deeper hole than expected, which led them to discover that the company that had installed the lateral in 2005 had screwed up the whole thing. The larger excavation found a surprise unconnected line from the house that had been flooding the subsurface since the botched lateral replacement. Serious mess, filthy, wet, and requiring all sorts of replaced parts. They held to their labor quote and only charged for the extra hardware required to connect everything. The connections were made properly, and the whole thing was engineered to handle the expected ground motions in my steep clay-soil yard. They had everything in place by sunset. After seeing the shoddy work done by the previous contractor, I was happy to see these guys do a systematic tracing of each drain coming from the house to make sure we'd found everything and that everything was draining where we thought it was draining. If you want quality, this is who you call! They're not cheap, but is any good plumber? I can't say enough good things about this company. An apparent plumbing curse had me calling Napoleon and his hardworking crew for several emergency leaks in a couple of older 4-plexes. Each time I called he always answered and always found a way to come right away. One major leak ruined 3 bathrooms within a matter of hours including mold damage. Napoleon had them looking like new within a few weeks despite my insurance company's efforts to delay the work and reimbursement. He helped get the water and mold remediation taken care of correctly, brought the old plumbing up to code, even handled the reconstruction of the new bathrooms that look better than ever. He and his crew worked the hours necessary to get the tenants back in their units and planned his work for the least impact on the tenants. They were careful with prep and cleanup covering the floor and their dirty shoes. He was always explaining what he found, why he was doing what and took pictures for the records. He only uses quality products that will hopefully outlast me.
