This is one of the best mom and pop type places around. Everyone knows everyone else. There is live entertainment at times, and the Elvis impersonator is awesome. Senior is the manager there. This is a seat yourself restaurant with a confusing flow and odiferous atmosphere. It took 20 minute for my order to be take and another 45 minutes to get my breakfast. I was eating alone and it was a simple order. The food was disgusting and the service was obviously terrible on top of that it was incredibly unfriendly. The one compliment I can give is that my coffee cup was continuously refilled by any waitress who walked past my table. I will never waste my time or money here again. We've lived in Cove over 5 years now and eat here often. It reminds me of a family owned restaurant back home with the outdated decor and homestyle food. I always get their chicken fried steak and have never been disappointed. They offer a long list of great daily specials, the wait staff is always friendly, and you never feel rushed and can sit around and chat at your table for as long as you like. Breakfast is a little pricey in my opinion so we prefer to have dinner here. Yes the decor is old, and yes it's full of old local people who might stare at you a bit when you come in, but you will find that in any small town. Walked into this Sweet little gem, and see that boy can they house some folks!! Looks tiny on the outside but there are 3 separate dining areas! Sat myself in a cozy booth near the center and was greeted by a sweet server named Diane (or Diana I'm really terrible with names) who was quick and offered me a drink, and delivered it almost before I could sit down! Wow! she suggested that I try the daily special which is Chicken Fried Steak. I obliged, but added a single pancake just to try. My coffee cup was refilled Boy oh boy was I surprised when my food arrived less than 5 minutes later! Everything came out perfectly! My cup was refilled everytime I took two sips by anyone who happened to walk by me, and I was checked on several times by Diane. This is exactly why I love local dives, the service is superior to any chain, the food is comforting and the atmosphere is welcoming. I can't wait to bring my family here for breakfast! read more

I decided to try this place since it's always packed when I drive by. I see elderly going in all the time and generally that means the place is good. (at least it did) They have a welcoming atmosphere, and it felt like a good ole truck stop, and everything was great until they brought me my meal. I ordered a brisket sandwich which came with potato salad. It looked delicious, but tasted like it had been deep-fried in plastic after having sat in the fridge for a few weeks...sad to say the potato salad wasn't much better...Maybe they were a bit off because it was right after the lunch rush. Lil Tex will always have a place in my heart. I've been going there since I was a child. The community really comes together in this place. Always someone to talk to. The waitresses have each been there for years and remember you when you come in. We mostly go for breakfast. Huge portions low cost. When family comes from out of town they always request to go here. If I could give this place no stars, I would. Our server was rude, never checked on our table, and didn't even bring us silverware. It took over a half hour for them to make our food. We ordered pancakes and an omelette. It should not take that long to make simple breakfast foods. The table across from us were obviously waiting a long time too because they ended up walking out before the food arrived. When we got the food it was below average. I Hop produces better food than they ever will. My biscuit was so dry, I couldn't even attempt to eat it. It lacked flavor and the omelette was so flat and bland. Highly disappointed in the food here considering how many people were eating there. Save yourself patience, time, and your pallet and go somewhere else. read more

Came in for breakfast on a Thursday morning. I got a short stack with a side of bacon. The bacon is really good. The pancakes were good but a tad on the dry side. The atmosphere is very family friendly, typical country kitchen. Some of the wait staff were very happy, chatty, and helpful. Our waitress seemed to forget we were there. Still would recommend it for breakfast. I'll be trying good ole biscuits and gravy next time around. read more

Lil Tex is hit & miss. Sometimes they are fantastic, best meal ever while other times COMPLETELY the opposite. Love their green beans & extra mushrooms on their steaks. Biggest gripe is too many times we ordered two identical steak dinners & one looks like a totally different & smaller cut of meat. With all the other choices in town it's been maybe 4 months since we've visited. We've recently found Applebees to be more consistant on a similiar steak dinner. Seems most of the restaraunts here in Cove have a similiar issue. read more

NO STARS is more like it food was cold & tasteless- service was ok my waitress asked me if I wanted fries or onion rings I said OR & I got THREE of them, I suppose if I would've said fries id hope to have more than "3" they had a live band was horrible & im not sure I was the right "color" to be in there the amount of looks I got was unbelievable & uncomfortable they had old filthy coloring books & broken crayons for my kids my daughter didn't even breathe on her food because it looks so burnt & hard her fries came out brown & hard like her corndog & my sons fries were UNDER-cooked :/ I ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger & the chesses didn't even melt guess the meat wasn't hot enough they came with my 3 onion rings like how stingy can you even be. my bf got the meat loaf plate had to be RE heated twice & he ate it because he was hungry not because he enjoyed it. $30 later & a waste of my time, gas & hard earned money. read more

Preferrably no stars. Really weird, old smell. Nothing tastes homemade and with love. Well, maybe love for aluminum cans and tons of grease. Great "mom & pop" type diner/restaurant. Lot of selections, great portions. I personally had one of the six different Tuesday specials, the Lil Tex Mexican Plate and it was very good. Wife had the Spanish Skillet, a breakfast dish and enjoyed it as well. My teenage daughter had the Mucho Nacho's and could only eat half of it because the portion was so big. For now I'll give it 3 stars. The service was great and while decor is outdated, it's a diner so expected, it was very clean. The food was good. My husband really liked his food. He got the philly cheesesteak. My food was just ok. I ordered the club. It was not made at all like the menu had said it would be. It was suppose to have 3 different cheeses on it and it only had one type. It also didnt have all t h.g e meat it was suppose to have and it was suppose to have some sort of chilli/peppers stuff on it and it had sweet relish on it, which threw the taste off completely. We do want to go back and I'm hoping our experience will be better. If it is then i will definitely update with a better review. read more

The food was disgusting. Cheap and probably all from a vendor that services a bowling alley. I don't see how this restaurant ever received a good review or how it is still an establishment. My husband ordered the Mexican Plate. The "enchiladas" were VERY small, and covered with some bagged-frozen chili. The rice was terrible and sadly enough it tasted like complete trash. I ordered the catfish platter. The fish was undercooked and terrible. Never will I, or my family go to this establishment again. read more

Lil Tex is almost a Copperas Cove tradition. It's a Mom and Pop Diner - Restaurant and the food is plain home-style, I will admit I prefer going for breakfast than any other meal. But when I'm in the mood for eat-out comfort food Lil-Tex is definately considered. read more
