Stopped in after 4th Grade graduation to have brunch. Hostess sat us down then forgot to tell the waiter we were at his table so we sat for over 5 minutes before someone showed up. Service got better somewhat after that. Ordered Rye toast got white toast with no butter on it. Bear claw french toast was okay but hard to cut thru because the egg mixture was burnt on the bottom and stuck to the plate. Wife had the Little lite breakfast omelette with grits it was an okay meal nothing to rave about. I had the Meat Lovers Omelette with the long hash browns, plenty of eggs and meat for sure, potatoes were not seasoned at all and just bland again nothing to rave about. Came here with a colleague on Monday morning and both ordered the Steak & Egg Daily Special. There was a banner outside advertising it for approximately $11 (before taxes). The steak was of great quality, we were both very impressed. The entire meal itself was phenomenal. Service was great. The vibe felt like I was in a Bass Pro Shop type environment. Best breakfast around! My daughter loved the one in New York and had to go here when she saw it. There will be a wait for seats unless you're lucky. The most I waited was 15mins. It's worth it so don't let the wait time scare you. You can dine in or order pick up. We dined in and were seated in 10mins. The server was amazing and the service was fast once seated. The came out hot. Which is a supper plus. Most restaurants the food is warm but not hot. I loved how the bear theme is throughout the restaurant. It has its own parking lot and family friendly restaurant. It was just as great as the one in New York. The prices are affordable and sizes are large. read more

I've been to Black Bear Diner a few times now and somehow keep dragging new people with me every visit . One of my friends who has lived here for years had never been, and after trying it she said she found herself a new favorite spot. That alone deserves some credit. I try something different every time I go, and honestly, I've never been disappointed. The portions are solid, the food comes out hot, and they do have mimosas -- which, if you've read any of my other reviews, you already know is a big deal for me . These sunny-side-up eggs in the picture even made me question my usual scrambled-with-cheese order. They were that pretty. I've also had great servers every single visit. Friendly, attentive, and quick -- even when the place is full. One thing to note: this is not a vegan or vegetarian-friendly restaurant. This is a pork establishment. Even the chicken sausage is wrapped in pork casing, so keep that in mind if you have dietary restrictions. Overall, Black Bear Diner is reliable, hearty, and always hits the spot. Food is good, but what happened to the seating greeter? Three times we have stood for longer than reasonable waiting to be seated. Wish they could go back to the way it was when they first opened. Service from the first waitress Scarlett was completely horrible. I asked for a pack of crackers and she refused to bring them after asking her 3 times so I had to go and ask another waitress for them. She had no problem with the other tables of white customers. I'm a highly decorated veteran that serve my country for over 30 years and I refuse to be treated like a second class citizen when I'm spending my money. This place gave me faith in Chicken Fried Steak! I have never liked CFS, it's always tough, it's always mostly burnt breading, it's just never good. For some reason, I was craving it here while we were here, and I'm so glad I ordered it! It was fork tender, juicy, and delicious. The biscuits and gravy were also very good. The sweet cream pancakes were fluffy and you could taste the sweet cream in them. We were really happy with our food. Portions were large and food was great. If I could rate with zero stars, I would. Why is it so hard to get a TOASTED English muffin right? If I want it toasted well, the cooks put it on the griddle, even when I specifically ask for it to not be (and the wait staff puts a note in the order). The food is okay otherwise, but after giving this place several chances to properly TOAST bread, no one cares enough to make sure it's done right. read more

ORDER THE ORANGE JUICE, it's fresh squeezed and delicious. Bacon is thick cut, pancakes are big, hash browns were well done. A bear lovers dream. Stuffies and clothes available for purchase. Friendly staff. Large restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Bear decor covers the walls. Even on a busy Saturday morning, food came out quick and delicious. We sat at the counter and the stools are a little far from the counter so we had to really lean forward and sit on the edge of our seats so probably not suitable for small children. I wish there were hooks below the counter to hang a handbag. The bathroom was messy, unfortunately...I think someone peed all over the floor and toilet paper was not in the dispensers, loose sitting atop the holder. read more

The food was delicious and the cinnamon French toast was looking really good. My husbandand I were really enjoying our breakfast until I went to get a taste of my husband's French toast. There was a long black hair in the French toast. A real turn off. It happened in front of the server. Which by the way Sammy was excellent, he was on point. He went and told his manager. He came out and apologized for the hair. Then proceeded to say I don't know how it could have happened. No one in the kitchen has long black hair. Then looked at me. Yes i have dark brown short hair. Which I took as him insinuating that we may have possibly done it. I promise you we weren't looking for a free meal. I had just finished doing a fast for a procedure I had done earlier. Old country log cabin style look with booths and tables and chairs reminds me of a 60's diner. Pictures of BLACK BEARS all over the walls. A jukebox playing with oldies. The best and only breakfast spot I'll eat at when visiting Texas. Every time I visit, the service has always been very good. The food is always well prepared and good. You definitely get your money's worth. The restaurant is very casual. When you walk in, you'll find way to buy souvenirs from key chains to plush stuff bears to remember your visit and time in the restaurant. Very cute decor before you enter and inside! They sell bear merchandise in the front and there is a jukebox playing music. I placed a pick up order for breakfast and ordered scrambled eggs, sausage, a waffle, and cold brew. Food was good, just your typical breakfast. This place hasn't been there long, my mother had seen it and wanted to go. We did get seated immediately the waitress did come over and asked if we wanted something to drink. Once she brought the drinks back we placed our food order. While waiting on our food the hostesses would drop items on the floor( a orange slice that fell off of a customers plate and some napkins) Other servers just walked past it and nobody picked them up Y'all we had to wait an hour for our food I ordered meatloaf, mashed potatoes and broccoli. Not sure what kind of meatloaf it was all I know it was not good at all, the broccoli was mushy (over cooked) I didn't even try the mashed potatoes my food did not look appealing at all. Pretty disappointing experience. Seems to be a total lack of management or standards. The host is the only person bussing tables. Wiping down tables with dirty towels and storing it in with the menus then grabbing silverware to seat us. The servers were all scrambling. Coffee a biscuits were the only two redeeming items. Hash browns and breakfast potatoes were cold...from the fridge cold not heated properly. The over medium eggs were barely over easy, a the omelet must have sat for a while being just warm. Had an early dinner here after moving all day. Nice inside with an open floor plan and wood through out. Very friendly staff and attentive to our needs. Had chorizo breakfast burrito, chicken and waffles, and chicken bacon ranch wrap. Food was just what you would expect at a diner. I really want to give Black Bear a better rating - I really do! However, service is sometimes hit or miss. Sometimes when we go, the staff is awesome! Sometimes, not so much... Food is really good, however, don't ask for a well toasted English muffin! The last 10+ times we've asked for a well toasted English Muffin were misses several times over... They give you more than enough to eat and the portion sizes are enough for two if you have a breakfast date who likes what you like!
