I have been shopping here way back when the store was named May Wah. They have change the name and packaging on some items but, still yummy. I miss the old citrus spareribs( recipe) they had. All i had to do was warm and pack with some hot rice and sauteed vegetables for lunch. My only negative thought would be I did a nice size purchase and they had package noodles for 5/$5 and since I got 6 packs...I was charged the regular price for the 6th one. I didn't look at receipt until I got home. The guy who checked me out was very dry and made me feel like I was bothering him by coming in to shop. read more

It's so wonderful to see an entirely vegan grocery store here in the city and wish there was one near where I lived. This Taiwanese based market offers a variety of vegan products including a lot of vegan meats that are great if you are looking to adopt a more plant-based lifestyle or are looking for options to entertain a vegan guest. The shop has a lot of dry and frozen goods in nicely organized aisles. We were the only shoppers in the morning we went, so it was easy to peruse the selection. I would love it if they had some kind of deli or prepared foods section. I would immediately buy up some baked treats or pre-made cold/hot foods to take home if they offered this kind of section. read more

I'm a former NY'er who went out for Chinese food at least once a week with my family throughout my childhood. I moved to Florida and continued to go out for Chinese food and shop at Asian grocery stores. We love Chinese food so much that when my husband and I got married, we held a dim sum banquet on the days before AND after the wedding! We had the banquets at the restaurant that we frequented a few times every week. Because of the pandemic, we stopped going out to eat but we didn't stop enjoying delicious Chinese food and it's all because of May Wah frozen food. Lily's carries the food that is served in the NYC May Wah restaurant, so we are still eating delicious Chinese food! We grow a lot of veggies so after harvesting greens, peppers, cucumbers, etc., I go into my freezer and get a pack of plant-based Citrus Spare Ribs, Teriyaki Duck, Ginger Chicken, Black Pepper Steak, Lemon Chicken or BBQ ribs. They cook up quickly in the pan of stir-fried veggies and make for quick and delicious dinners. Each pack holds two servings. They also offer large bags that have pounds of food, but so far the small bags are working for us. The price is very reasonable - each portion is under $3 - you can't beat that! We last ordered a good supply of May Wah food and got free shipping. Next time, we plan on trying the plant-based Char Siu and other products. All vegan grocery. It makes it easy to look through for things such as ingredients. Lily's Vegan Pantry has canned, frozen, and refrigerated stuff. Fairly okay prices. This could be lots more but they don't gouge you. It has a lot of variety for a small store but it seems a lot of the drinks and food is Asian. Of course that's not surprising because the owner is Asian and it's on the edge of Chinatown. They supply a lot of imitation meat and tofu to Chinese restaurants. Among the drinks are aloe vera, and there's lots of grain milks. The frozen foods include many meat substitutes like chicken nuggets, drumsticks, sausages, and other things. Has substitutes for almost any kind of meat. They look and taste almost the same that anyone can be fooled into thinking it's the real thing. Check out being a member which gives you savings on many items. This lets you save a lot more if you buy a lot. Has good prices on almost everything. It packs a lot into a small place. One bite into their hot spicy beef jerky- I'm completely converted. No less than 3 times I asked- this is not meat??! The jerky is hefty square pieces with chew and stringiness beneath a generous coating of curry powder and earthy spices and strong red pepper leaving you wanting more. And wondering how the heck they made something that taste more jerky than jerky tastes itself?! The store is bright, clean, odorless and full of organic, vegan wholefoodesque selections. The staff were warm and inviting, never a second away from a perplex expression ready to cater. Their promotion is very inviting , sign up for membership and you will get 15 % discount to all frozen items any day if visit. If non-member , Friday and Sat visits receive 10% discounts. Free delivery in 5 boroughs for order more than $75. We decided to buy a sampler size of each kind of their proteins to know which family size pack to buy in the future. The associated stationed near the freezer was helpful for other items we had in our mind. We gave in to give a try for the sandwich near by the counter. They sell merchandise items that Is worth getting. I'll make another review of how the food tastes like. We heard so many great reviews about the quality of their vegan meat products. This is the same family that owned MAYWAH. Lilly is the owners daughter's. This grocery store is full Vegan. They did a little redecorating it has an Asian flair it's incredibly clean open spacious so everything's in full view. My favorites are the vegan salmon and vegan chicken legs. They've added more items to their list of grocery products. They raise the prices but it's definitely worth what you pay for. Any vegan restaurant in the United States, if you eat their chicken, duck, fish, most likely they ordered it from MayWah/Lilly's pantry this is just the retail end of it so if you're fortunate enough to be a New Yorker you can just come directly here to shop. For $20 you can get a 1 year membership or for $30 you can get a 2 year membership and every time you shop you get 15% off of all of their frozen items. This is a very good vegan only store. Don't let the size fool you, even though the pantry is small they have a wide variety of foods. I enjoyed the vegan rice balls very much. The vegan dumplings are okay, but not a favorite for me, I prefer the ones from H Mart. Located on the fringe of Chinatown it is well worth the time to checkout the various vegan foods available. It's so great to have a fully vegan grocery that is actually decently affordable! Sure, stocking up on all the frozen vegan goodies and splurging on a vegan Japanese Spongy cheesecake ($16, shout out to KozyToast! Check out their online ordering too!!) will rack up the receipt, but it's so worth it. They have everything from black sesame paste, basics like sesame oil for $3.80 (decent price compared to American grocery stores, though more expensive than some Chinese stores deeper in Chinatown), frozen stuff like general Tso's "chicken" and citrus ginger chicken starting at about $5/bag, vegan jerky 3 bags/$10 (cheapest I've seen anywhere!), etc etc etc. A vegan's dream! The employees are also super nice. It's a super tiny store, but they have all the vegan meat substitutes you could ever want. Plus you can stock up on the BBQ meat from Buddha Bodai down the street, for the same price as what you get ordering in ($9). A splurge? Sure. Delicious? Without a doubt. read more

As a mostly vegetarian, who has been consistently grocery shopping in Manhattan's Chinatown since 1992, what impresses me most about Lily's Vegan Pantry is the friendliness of the staff. Not only do the people on the floor and behind the counter seem genuinely concerned about your grocery shopping needs, they are happy to take a few minutes to give you directions what you need outside of the store in the neighborhood. I really appreciated the engaging staff (which, to be honest, you don't get at competing grocery stores nearby). This store appears to have mostly fake *meat* products for vegans and vegetarians. It is not a one-stop-shop-all. The prices jump a bit, depending on what you buy. Some things are $5, other things $16. The store is very organized and easy to navigate. I look forward to returning and am happy to have interacted with such an amicable staff! read more

I heart this place. The employees are always welcoming and helpful. I appreciate that they offer free samples of some of their products towards the entrance. I usually end up liking it and leaving with a bag or two. Their vegan duck in the frozen aisle is excellent. Had a nice smokey flavor and worked well with some mixed veggies. My favorite item at this store would have to be their Vegetarian Char Siu Buns. If you gave these to me and didn't tell me they were vegetarian, I honestly would think there is meat in here. Sweet, smokey, and "meaty." These are delicious. Steam (or microwave) them at home and enjoy. Like Answer May Wah with Lily's Vegan Pantry (Owner) a year ago All of our staffs are fully vaccinated and continues to take their temperatures when they first arrive at work. Masks are required still for both staffs and customers. Counters, doors, and fridge surfaces are cleaned every other hours. And customers are limited and doors are open when there is large amount of people in the store. OG best faux meat spot anywhere- Citrus ribs, chicken nuggets, patties and legs, ramen, seasonings, buns, etc. are tops- non gmo, limited ingredients, lean and versatile vegan protein. Everything is vegan - you can also get delicious treats from local restaurants that they do business with, like moon cakes. Many New York City (and beyond) vegan restaurants serve their products. I love this place and wish I could buy the products locally to me in New Jersey, shipping is a little steep but expected with frozen products. Will shop here forever! I stopped by this market with my cousin who comes here for their frozen vegetarian food. He insists that this market offers better tasting vegetarian food options than what he can get in his neighborhood supermarket. He travels from the Bronx to get to this market regularly. If your a driver beware that the only parking available is on the street however, because this market is located in downtown Manhattan you will never find a spot. I observed that they have a large variety of food options but unfortunately I can't speak on the taste. I'm not a vegetarian so I haven't tried their food. read more

I came here today looking for that holy grail of veganism, fake tuna--as in fake canned tuna, not necessarily a fake tuna steak, although they have that too. I got two packages of the frozen mock tuna; I've been jonesing for tuna salad lately. Since I was there, I got some of the mock frozen duck chunks as well. (And some soy riblets! Vegans like fun food, too!) As with the Asian Food Market in Staten Island, you have to read every label. As other reviewers point out, many of the items contain large amounts of MSG [an excitotoxin] and I was particularly concerned about items containing whey and other milk derivatives. A lot of the stuff has wheat and other potential allergens (to some people) as well. So read your labels; the label is your friend! Since I was here last, they seem to have worked on their marketing and customer service; a very friendly woman greeted me when I went into the store and helped me find what I wanted. They really pack it in! So this is truly veggie heaven--but I say that with a caveat: please read the label! (I've brought home too many things to count that I've read the label only to find I couldn't in all conscience eat it. Maybe ignorance is bliss, but there are some things you can't un-know.) I didn't get the tuna steak because it contained whey; as soon as I mentioned that, the woman pointed out they had some new vegan items. Vegans may only number 3% of the population, but we are a growing minority--so watch out! read more

Let me start off my saying I am not vegetarian or vegan. I tried being a vegetarian in college and only lasted about 9 months. Fast forward 12 years later I still enjoy meat, but recently decided to cut back. I came across May-Wha products at my local grocery store while looking for another vegetarian option. I will admit I was a bit thrown off by the packaging since it was something I've never seen before. Thankfully a quick google search yielded some great reviews so I decided to give the citrus spare ribs and teriyaki beef a try. And let's just say I was NOT disappointed. I prepared it in a skillet with tons of veggies, onions and peppers and it was delicious. It honestly taste just like meat and was really flavorful. The prices at my grocery store were about $1 more then what is advertised online but an entire skillet of dinner for $6 is more then a deal. I haven't had a chance to visit the market, but I am making that a priority since I don't live very far. *Update* I had a chance to stop by the market and it was worth the trip. The market is very small but they have plenty of yummy options. The service is super friendly which won me over. The guy behind the counter greeted me and was helpful without being annoying. Today was their 25th anniversary and everything was 10% off and if you spent $20 or more they gave away a few free gifts which were actually very nice. A few food products, rice noodles, vegan protein, a change purse, a calendar and a re-usable shopping bag with the temperature control lining and zipper. Pretty nice for a freebie! I like this place. Lots of frozen VEGAN items. Coolness. I was just wandering around Chinatown after a haircut and decided to finally check this place out. The market is clean and bright. And also with friendly help. I wasn't sure what to buy, was just browsing around. But, I found some fake spicy squid jerky and also found some millet sticky rice dumplings. The rice dumplings are made with millet and stuffed with mushrooms and dried turnips. The package comes with 2 dumplings and easily prepared in the good old microwave. I will definitely come back to try more of the frozen options. Nice to have a vegan place in Chinatown. read more

The fake meat capital of NYC? I heard about this place from a friend and had to scope it out. This place is awesome! Lots of options that you won't find in conventional grocery stores and if you do - they are way more expensive. Prices here are totally reasonable. I didn't go completely crazy but spent about 30 bucks here. I liked that not all the faux meat was frozen (I have limited freezer space!) but some items did not need to be refrigerated. They carry beef, beef jerky, chicken, drumsticks, pork, shrimp, fish, goose, duck, cocktail weenies, and more! They also have some random grocery items like sauces, crackers, teas. While I recommend checking it out in person (because it's an excuse to eat somewhere in Chinatown, duh) all their items are available for online order. *TIP* Check-in here before you pay for your purchase, you'll thank me later. Being vegetarian has a lot of health perks if you do it properly. This store seems to know their clientele & have proper knowledge about their diet. There is so much variety at this place. The veggie pork, taro, & cabbage buns excite me so much. An veggie beef jerky? I've never seen before! The shrimp makes me the happiest. Omg. An these are products from Asia (china, Japan, etc). Being vegetarian is not limiting like close-minded individuals believe. The possibilities are endless and may wah proves this. Just wish the store was bigger. UPDATE on 11/18 -- owner addressed shipping information in message below; dry ice provided. Thanks! I had my food delivered to New Jersey. It came via UPS in a little more than 24 hours. The temperature outside was running in the upper 50s for the week. The contents of my box were cold, but pretty much thawed. Being familiar with vegan food, I wasn't alarmed because I'm' not dealing with animal flesh, eggs and dairy in the products, so I knew there was nothing to be worried about. Though, I was a little surprised there was no ice pack or dry ice for the $26 shipping cost. I had to spend at least $50 before I could have the items delivered, so I got all different products to try. (I'll edit my review as I try more, but so far the food is excellent). The chicken nuggets are tasty and have a real meaty texture, though, I wouldn't order it again. There's absolutely nothing wrong with these nuggets; they're just not my cup of tea. The citrus ribs are excellent; the soy protein is in small pieces and covered in a sweet, tangy, savory sauce. I'm excited to try the drumsticks (which are featured on a youtube video with the Vegan Zombie -- love him! -- watch the video and you can see how he cooks it). The soy-free chicken fried steak is great. I gave it a good pan fry and served it with stuffing and gravy. If you are familiar with the Veggie Heaven restaurants in New Jersey (Teaneck, Montclair, and Denville) -- these vegan products from May-Wah taste just like those, so I think these restaurants must order from them. I love Veggie Heaven, so I'm happy to have found this market. I researched May-Wah via feedback from their customers on Facebook and on general Internet sites. Such a Clean and organized store. I went in there to buy some vegan necessities and somebody was constantly washing the floors and cleaning everything. They were very helpful in assisting me with translation of specific ingredients. I'm really lucky to have such a variety of vegan products. I'm looking forward to trying new things. I do wish that they had a veggie dumplings without MSG Which is very hard to find.Lots of their products have MSG which is an a problem for some but it's a problem for me. This place has all of the good vegan items you could want. Every time I go, they have a few items that you could try (sort of like Costco). This allows you to try new items without having to waste money if you don't like it. What I love the most about it is that they have some items in bulk. I'm obsessed with their vegan citrus spare ribs and that usually lasts me for quite some time. Today was their 22nd anniversary event, so they had a few more items to sample and gave two free items: a little pouch with their logo and instant rice noodles. I was a little bummed that they didn't have my citrus pare ribs in bulk, but they took down my information and told me they would call me when they get more. The staff is super friendly and helpful! We just ordered quite a bit of veggie products. So far, so good. We just tried the Vegetarian BBQ Ribs and the nutritional info is WAY off. It says the package weighs 250 Grams (correct) and there are 3 servings per package at 200 grams each (impossible) and it's only 83 calories. Basically it's saying it's 83 calories for almost the entire package. I emailed them regarding the nutritional info that was wrong and they got back to me FAST with answers. Very nice! Whatever you can do with chicken, I can do with soy chicken! Nice to have some variety of soy proteins for my husband. read more

The items are really affordable and they had samples to try before I purchased. They weren't expensive either. The people that work at the market are extremely helpful and friendly.
