Excellent neighborhood grocery store stocking premium brands of food and supplements. When I first moved to the neighborhood I wasn't particularly impressed but then I realize they actively (painstakingly) try to match or beat the prices on everything that you can find elsewhere in the neighborhood. For example, I recognize Perfect Bars as the best quick breakfast in existence. Not only does Health & Harmony have the best variety but they beat the next best price by $0.10 per bar. I've also found that the owner is often on site and has deep knowledge of the products. read more

I really like this shop!! It's en route to equinox so I stop there at least once a week now. They have a large variety of products, from some grab and go items to lots of supplements, types of yogurts (armenian yogurt too) and lactose free items. The staff is helpful and I always leave with a bag of goodies! Favs are some farm honey and other snacks I get. It's just a tad pricey but that's expected at this type of market. If they also had more to-go foods (now is just some healthy sushi etc) would be nice. Also the fruit and veggies are a little expensive! read more

YOU GUYS. this store is my newest obsession and I have to give a little backstory as to why - I've lived in the village just under 2 years now & until a couple of weeks ago had NO IDEA it existed! I would always take my walks around other parts of the neighborhood until one day I passed it and decided to go in - it is everything I've been wanting this whole time in a grocery store, and only a couple blocks away! I used to either have to take the train to Trader Joe's or Whole Foods and then carry my groceries on the train.... which NO ONE likes doing. OR if I needed a snack nearby I'd either have to full-on order take out or grab something from Rite Aid (which is convenient but not quite the same selection as far as groceries go if you know what I mean...lol). Anyways! SOLID 5/5 stars - this is like a mini Whole Foods. Top-notch. They have everything you could possibly need, and so much variety as well. I'm amazed by how they fit so much greatness in such a small space without it feeling overwhelming. It's actually nice because you don't have to wander around a massive grocery store ya know? Makes it efficient. They have tons of newer brands to try, along with well-known brands. If you take a peek at my photos you'll see my one of my newest simple pleasures is trying all the CBD waters/teas/etc. that they offer. They cater to every diet - organic, keto, vegan, veggie, you name it. They also have a fantastic selection of high-quality vitamins/supplements. AND- lots of hair/body/skin/home too. I've been buying candles from them lately. Can you tell I'm a fan? Super friendly staff as well. While this should be self-explanatory given everything I've mentioned, I will note that it's not somewhere to shop if you're on a serious budget. Actually, I take that back, I'm on a budget & shop here, but I also really enjoy high-quality groceries, trying new healthy food options, & would rather splurge here vs. eating out so often, etc. So I guess it depends on your personal priorities :) They close at 8:30 pm & aren't open on holidays. (I tried, haha). HOT TIP- if you're also a fan of Recess, buy it here b/c they sell it for $4.99/can whereas the corner mini-market place sells it for $5.99/can. They even have a great pet food selection and health and beauty. What stands out also is the prices. Very competitive and cheaper than Whole Foods. The place is even better since they expanded. So, I'm walking around with my husband, as usual. Then he tells me let's go into a grocery store. Now I have a general aversion to grocery stores generally, but I wanted to see what this "fine health food store" had going on. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted by multiple employees on a beautifully diverse team. And OMG the selection of organic honey, vitamins, tea, plant-based protein powders.. unmatched. Now I think that MOM's Organic in the DMV is nice, but this store is at least 10 times better. AND if you're staying in NY for an extended period, they'll deliver to you! Although I live across town, Health & Harmony is fortunately close to several of my clients, so I'm in there at least once a week. I love that they're not a chain; because of stores like H&H, I never have to go to WholeMart™, and that's a gift. They're ridiculously well-stocked; there are a few items I've found there that I haven't found anywhere else--particularly the Daiya cheese wedges, which were there once. I bought every flavor they had, and that's a good thing, because I haven't seen them anywhere since. They'll be back. So if I can't find something anywhere else, I make sure to stop in here, because they often have it. (Most recently it was the mung bean "fettuchini," and I haven't seen that anywhere else.) They also have great prices on produce; although I usually buy my fruit and veggies closer to home, I've been known to grab a few avocados here when they're particularly cheap. I love this health food store! I'm a new New Yorker, just moved up here from NC, and when I first arrived I was flabbergasted by the NY prices. All prices. Groceries, drinks, dinners, lunch, movie theaters, you name it, it was way cheaper in NC. So, of course a health food store in the West Village would be no different. Au contraire, it's even more affordable than some of the health food stores down south! A whole box of E-mergency is only $9.99!! In NC it was at least $12! Forget Grestedes, forget D'agastinos! Ive been searching for my favorite chocolate bar by Equal Exchange 88% because the carb to fiber ratio fits with my diet and it is the only chocolate to use real vanilla beans, not Vanilla 'Flavor'. I hate to write this review. I've supported this store from the moment they moved into my neighborhood. Small businesses in neighborhood will get my business (if they are a good business that treats customers fairly & properly). I've spent thousands of dollars in this grocery over the years. Thousands. There has been a problem here & there over past few years... Ice cream that had been thawed & refrozen (ick.. repeatedly), expired expiration dates, open packages, occasional overcharge, problematic product. Each time more things get added to the 'that wasn't cool" list, I find myself right walking past the store - and instead going to BF. (BF has improved, & now has better prices on many items that H&H stock. But I wanted give my money to the mom & pop H&H as much as I could). Tonight... in midst of what is about to be a real tough time ahead for everyone due to covid. I decided I want to give my business to the small business, the one that is going to be hurting first. But I am now so sorry that I didn't walk on by tonight & go to BF. I do not think Health & Harmony will be getting much more of my business. I just wanted bread, some organic bananas, a lil hunk of cheese, some water, etc. The selection of bread type products was severely lacking (& most did not have expiration dates which is concerning). I finally settled on a pack of brioche type buns. Pretty pricey at $3.99 for tiny bag, but I figured at this time I'm lucky to have bread so i'll go for it. No expiration date, so I looked for another bag. I found one (still no expiration date), but on this 2nd bag the price was listed at $4.99. I brought both bags to the register upon checkout to find out what was what with the price tags & expiry. The check out girl quickly started peeling off the $3.99 price & told me the buns were $4.99 & she saw no expiry. Okay, fine. I mean, usually any honest retailer will honor the price an item as has been marked (if their error), but they didn't do that (and this has happened here before). I say fine, I'll pay $4.99, but I want bag that had been marked $3.99 anyway & I'll pay $4.99 (because 2nd package had a bun that looked bruised/damaged/old). They tell me that $3.99 package has a hole in it & I shouldn't get that. I tell them to hold on a sec, and I go back, all the way back to bread isle & search for another package. There is none. Finally I settle on a 4 pack of little buns that also does not have expiration date, & it didn't exactly feel nice or soft either, but it was just best there was left. It is marked $4.99. I bring it to the front, they ring it with the rest of my stuff. I glance at the screen to see that the package of buns rings up as $5.99. I tell her, I point to the $4.99 price... I mean really, again? come on, this isn't right. She tells me it's the price that is in the system, so it is the right price regardless of what is on the package. EXCUSE ME? So all the price labels in store don't matter? & could be wrong? (okay, so isn't that kind of fraud-ish & dishonest?!). I wonder how many people have paid more than they realize. I tell her usually a reputable store honors prices marked. Isn't it unusual/suspect that this is 2nd item in just minutes that rings up higher than marked. The girl shrugs her shoulders, says "sorry" but that is what the price is. I tell her again that just isn't good business. it's not right. The manager is standing three feet away with his back turned toward us the whole time. He's someone I've always thought of as a really good guy. He's so close that he surely heard our conversation, and yet he did not address what was going on. Color me a bit disappointed & a bit disgusted. I can only hope that for some strangeness of the universe reason he wasn't able to hear what was going on right near him, at least that way he could still be a good guy. I looked the girl in the eyes, and said THIS is one of the reasons that BF gets my business & will get my business. This is so wrong. I nodded toward the manager... & said "you need to tell him". She said that she would. I'm not holding my breath for that conversation. Nor am I even going to bother going back to the store to return the water jug that leaked all over on the way home. And by the way, I opened the buns, they are totally stale/old and crumbled completely in my hands. Yeah, H&H thanks for that too. $8 total of throw away - Frustration, priceless. I mean - wow. I've been their customer for soooo long. They are part of our neighborhood. That is not the way you treat neighbors (especially in times like this). Shame on you Health and Harmony. Own your mistakes, be nice to people who shop in your store. We are a nice neighborhood, don't try to cheat or mislead - that's gross. You can be sure that I'll be sharing this with the hood. Love the hell out of this place. In a part of Manhattan that lacks a lot of variety, Health and Harmony is the perfect healthy option in the area. It also has a somewhat neighborhood feel to it. They have a great selection of healthy foods, snacks and drinks. Best part is it's noticeably cheaper than places like Whole Foods and there is never a line extending three times around the store. Whether you're vegan or just an overall healthy eater, there's something here for you. The service is also excellent. On many of my visits, I'm asked by the store clerk for feedback on anything I was looking for that they didn't carry. In addition to that, they answer just about any question you have on products. This review is aimed at the owner: Train the female staff to act professional when you are not there. They are mean. They are rude and I have called you in the past about them. What is weird is that they are always different ones. What is going on? Why is it ONLY here? It's really been bugging me about writing about this place. I have been frequenting it for many many many years. It puts a huge pit in my stomach every time I go in because of the women who work behind the desk. They are so mean - especially when the managers or owners are not around. Today she slammed my credit card down, another day they grab my stuff angrily - what is it? Please owner - do you want to be a beloved neighborhood store? Please Please tell these women to perhaps take one of the many mood enhancing women's pills you have to calm down and treat customers normally!! I will not come back unless I see some changes. I strongly advice against filtering this review - if you are a decent business, then make the changes and I will revise this in the future. My neighborhood grocery store as I try to buy local. The owner / management are always welcoming, helpful and willing to ask if there was anything I couldn't find - they will write it down and try and stock it. I wish the produce selection could be larger. There are a few items they don't carry (ie Anita's yogurt) so I have to go to Whole Foods however for most staples, they have it. I am surprised by other reviewers saying they are rude as I have been going for years a few times a week and never experience anything negative. Additionally, I can call and list what I would like to be delivered to my home for free and they will delver it within 30 mins. Also having a house account means I can walk in and don't need a credit card on hand. Staff is knowledgable and helpful about supplements and herbal products and I would much rather support them over Amazon. Prices often beat everywhere else. read more

I found my health food haven. This place rocks! I found everything from yummy gluten-free, diary-free peanut butter cookies that are soft and chewy...to soy nut butter nutella - it exists! This is the place where you can find every kind of food for your diet/allergy requirements and it's reasonably priced. Not only that, but they have a nice little section to get ready to go meals so you can grab a quick lunch. Although the aisles in the store are somewhat cramped, they are very well stocked with essentials and then some. Great vitamin selection and they have health drinks I like for a price that I love. There was a man stocking shelves (I didn't catch his name) who stopped what he was doing to help me find a product. This is the kind of business you want to support. Family owned and operated with quality, hand-picked produce and products. They don't sell anything unless it's high quality. The prices can be expensive at times, but many of their products are DOLLARS cheaper than Whole Foods. They are also very knowledgable about their vitamin selections, so you can actually come in and tell them your issue and they will give you a good vitamin solution without all the up-selling. One of my favorite grocers in Manhattan! This mini-maze is much larger than anticipated, they are very well stocked and the staff is very helpful! I come here to get all of my nondairy items since I am lactose intolerant and I pick up some ground flax seed and organic avocados here and there!! The prices are very reasonable for being a health food store, most things are priced well below what you would get them for at say D'agostinos, etc! They place has a lot of good stuff - but I find it hard to shop as the aisles are very narrow and claustrophobic. The manager (maybe he is the owner?) is a very strange guy. He acts all enthusiastic when you first approach him with a question. But he gets very defensive and angry if you ask about an item they don't have or are out of stock. I have had at least 2 women who shop there tell me that he acted "creepy" with them so not sure I will be shopping there again. read more

This is a gem in the neighborhood that I go to almost every day. Great place for organic foods and products. They stick to their values in choosing brands and products. The produce section is small--you can get groceries for many meals, but they don't necessarily have every ingredient you need. They've been improving the quality and variety and also adding a few prepared foods (sandwiches and cut fruit). A modest store with a little of everything. Prices are very reasonable, especially if you compare to the dismal conventional food at D'ags. The staff has always been very nice to me, even opening doors and offering baby product samples. These are some of the most bizarre resentful women I've ever seen. Definitely good for the area. Manager knows their stuff, stocks all the right products. Of course, price-wise, can't truly compete with big-chain whole foods store, but who always has time for such journeys? If you need just a few items, esp. drinks and snacks (Pirate's Booty!), this is the perfect place to go in the neighborhood. Good selection of herb teas. Competitive price on Kombucha. Good frozen food selection & cans & box health/milks (tho these items can't be much discounted and/or housebranded like you-know-who). I try to give them the business of at least the little items that I'd pay an in-range price for at the big chain. Never a line. Sure, cramped, but space is used well & I have always found staff & people there friendly. I hope they stay and stay and stay. No frills, health food staples at remarkably reasonable prices considering the neighborhood. For a small store the selection is good (or at least they happen to have my favorite stuff!) and the staff is helpful, but the main reason to shop here (instead of lifethyme, integral yoga or a "gourmet deli") is the great prices. And of course it's always preferable to patronize a small neighborhood store instead of whole foods. . . I'm surprised to see a review with negative comments about the staff. Narrow isles, but you can get lost in there very quickly if you don't know where you're going. They have a wide selection of organics which helps if you're lactose intolerant like me. Wonderful produce and an attentive store manager. When Covid19 hit NYC they were the only place I could locate paper goods and hand sanitizers on a regular basis. Meats and fruits are always fresh.
