Fish and chips. Fish was thin and mushy. They used to serve this as 3 pieces that had a thicker pieces.

I wrote a review about a year ago about how this place had changed over time. We decided to go once more yesterday to watch the playoff game and have dinner. Unfortunately, the downward trend from a year prior continued. Our group went to order the Irish Nachos and Shepards Pie (cottage pie on their menu) and beer. They were out of the beer we initially wanted. Once we got our first drinks, the waitress was MIA for awhile before we were even able to flag her down to order. We attempt to order the Irish Nachos, and the waitress says they are out of chips. One of their flagship apps on their menu and they are out of potato's to slice chips? On a Saturday (wasn't even busy)? We end up making other choices, and also order all other food. We wait about another 15-20 before anything comes out. Two of us ordered their Cottage Pie and not until they were bringing food out did they inform us that they don't have cottage pie. Again, another staple on the menu and it's not available because "the mix didn't come together" and "they weren't expecting it to be busy. " Two things - 1: it's a Saturday with NFL playoff games on; 2: the table is informed after the food is already being brought out (and both items are staples of the menu). I had to get up to go find someone multiple times for various item requests. I assume they were understaffed, but as I mentioned, not busy at all. Food isn't what it once was, the waitress was nice when she came around, as was the other lady who I think was the bartender trying to help her out. I would say that as a place to go have a beer and watch sports, it's still a viable option. As a dining destination, I used to look forward to taking people there as their food was stellar, but that is no longer the case.

Service was very good. I ordered the fish & chips. At first sight my reaction was why such a small plate? It was overflowing with a large piece of fish and fries. Not the usual crispy outer crust I was expecting but just as delicious. This place is great!

Fish Tacos - didn't taste right.

I went in on a Friday because it's Lent and I have been getting tired of fish tacos. Upland can be interesting... and the evening I went in there were some 'interesting' people at the Bar. I felt a strange vibe from the 2 Men sitting at the bar probably because one kept commenting out loud "Who's that BLACK guy next to Steve Garvey?" emphasis on the word 'Black' and said about 3 times. Then he said "F**| it one out of two isn't bad" said with a chuckle. Yes, I was the only African-American in the bar and I kept my right eyebrow down and drank my beer. This was an evening that the main cook didn't show so there was a sign outside that said the kitchen would be open shortly (or something to that effect) I ordered fish & chips and patiently waited for my order... I liked the presentation but the fish tasted off... like undercooked or something. I told the Bartender and let her know to check with the Cooks because I ended up not eating 90% of it. At first, I thought it was me but NOPE it was almost slimy. Had it been cooked properly I think it would have been pretty tasty. The bartender was keeping up with all the tables that she had by herself and the beer was cold. I'd ponder returning if I arrive and do not see the two men there. Respectfully Reviewed

This place is AWESOME. I feel right at home here. The crew is great. The food is top tier. The vibe here is amazing. They have all sports and fights here.

Not one bit for leftovers. (Cottage pie)

Just moved to the area, my husband and I thought we'd check out this place. Vibes are chill, service is great and food is top tier to keep it simple. We had the pleasure of having Jordan as our bartender / server, she was nice; made us feel welcomed! I ordered the Cottage Pie and he got the pretzel with beer cheese and mustard. Needless to say we finished both dishes! Will definitely recommend coming here and trying for yourselves.

Went here for St Patrick's day week and it was amazing. The atmosphere was impeccable. Servers were super nice and everyone in the bar was super friendly. Had great conversation. I really appreciated their glassware with the st Patrick's Guinness it added to the atmosphere. Didn't order food this visit but I really like how the kitchen is open and you can see them cook the food. There's lots of seating and parking. Restrooms were clean too. I would come here again for sure

Miranda greeted us with an awesome smile and welcoming attitude. Floors, seating, tables were all clean and my family and I all felt comfortable sitting down to eat. We ordered three kids meals, a Reuben sandwich, house nachos and two golden monkey beers. The beers were cold and delicious, the nachos were so delicious and flavorful, the sandwich had amazing rye bread, sauerkraut was hot and delicious and the meat was tender, hot and no grisly bits. Highly recommend 10/10.

My friend's beer, spicy chicken slider, French fries with ketchup and ranch

During the halftime show, when Spanish music was playing, we noticed people in the bar hollering and making comments. Instead of letting the broadcast continue, the bar changed the entire channel and switched to country music. What made this especially frustrating was how it felt like the presence of other cultures in the bar was being ignored or dismissed altogether. It didn't feel like a neutral decision--it felt like an intentional choice to cater to one group while denying others the same space and respect. The vibe instantly shifted from enjoyable to uncomfortable. A bar hosting an event this big should be welcoming to everyone, not selective about which cultures are acceptable. Unfortunately, this experience came across as tone-deaf and, honestly, racist. There are plenty of better places to watch a game where everyone feels welcome.

The blue cheese burger I wished were a bit stronger in blue cheese flavor (as a person who loves lots of blue cheese), but the burger was definitely filling for both the eyes and the tummy. The only thing I wished is that the burger didn't feel as heavy/greasy, but if that were the case, I probably wouldn't have chosen a burger. That said, the grease did feel like it took away from the flavors, making the burger tasting milder than I had wanted. That said, it was very enjoyable overall. The dog menu was surprisingly different from what I've seen. It was surprisingly healthy looking with the amount of vegetables they added to my dog's bowl including some Brussels sprouts. There was no rice at all, which was fine for me since my dog doesn't really like rice. Unfortunately, he is so picky, so he picked out the chicken from the vegetables even with me pre-mixing it, and I think the vegetables are too firm to his liking. However, I appreciate the food being healthy and the portions, even if he himself will not really eat most of it. I'm sure some other dog will do a lot better with the bowl!

Service was slow and inattentive the whole time, from seating to when they were around to take our order or drop off an item, they were never friendly or courteous. They seemed annoyed having to work. This location of Back Abbey in Upland is in the Colonies area, in the same plaza as Albertson, European Wax Center, and Massage Envy. When I pulled up I was genuinely happy that this location was much larger than their original Claremont location. They have tables, a bar area, and a large outdoor patio. There were many tv screens for the sports fan. I actually liked the décor and had positive hopes for this place. When I looked at their menu I was happy to see the menu grow since my last encounter with their original Claremont location. Once again, I was excited for the business and genuinely wanted to support them. I was narrowing down what to order and I even imagined coming back to try other items. My boyfriend had the Back Abbey Burger ($20) and I was mistakenly excited to see the beer cheese so I got the Soft Pretzel ($10). We also shared a Pomme Frites (half $9/full $11) and went all out with the full cause it's a better deal. My boyfriend also got a Coke ($4). I was asking the waitress about the sangria but their version doesn't have edible fruits, so I was less interested. Honestly if she was more friendly I would have gotten something else. I just got water. THE ONLY THING WE ENJOYED IS THE POMME FRITES. I remember liking these from their Claremont location. Fresh cut and super crispy as they double fry it in duck fat. Yummmm. My boyfriend said his burger was okay but he didn't like the aged gouda which affected every bite of the burger. Ugh now let me get to the pretzel. The saddest pretzel in all of the lands. I was soo excited for this... anddd COLD BEER CHEESE!! Whatttttttt??? Honestly I wanted to ask staff if it was meant to be cold but they were no were in sight. We were waiting sooooo long to wave someone down for the check. If service was faster at least I can be annoyed and leave and get over it. They were so slow it left me to stew in my annoyance of the unsatisfying depressing pretzel. Also, neither the coke or the waters were refilled. When we were FINALLY able to wave someone down, it was still a while to get the check. We also for a togo container FOR THE FRIES. She can see the majority of the pretzel was uneaten and I made it a point to say I didn't care to take it togo. Of course she didn't care to ask any follow up questions. Food being bad is one thing... I could have always came back to try the duck confit or steamed mussels like I intended but the service made me soooooooooo miserable waiting around. I don't have time for this.
