Located on a cool street with a lot of history this unassuming (from the outside) restaurant really packs a wallop with their dishes. We came in because of its proximity to our hotel and the solid reviews online.It was our first night in town and given the extensive menu we had a bit of fatigue as to what to eat or drink, especially because the meals we had landed on were sold out. So we pivoted and ordered 4 different types of tacos to split (there are 2 to an order). We went with a mix of what called to us and recommendations from our waiter; and settled on the squash blossom, waygu, rabo, and langostinos and paired them with a glass of their Sangiovese wine on the menu. I will say that I wasn't impressed with the langostinos because i pictured prawns (that is what we call them where I'm from) they were more the size of tiny shrimp. But overall the taste was spectacular. The dish has a nice heat to it and wonderful taste that I had to reevaluate my feelings towards it. The other stand out dish was the rabo tacos, the beef was so tender and delicious and the presentation was just so pristine and delicate I would never think such an ingredient could look that elegant and on a taco no less. The waitstaff and their attention to us was exceptional. Overall, despite it being one of the pricier restaurants we dined in while in Mexico City, I would absolutely recommend the splurge. read more

Absolutely ethereal! Words cannot describe the enjoyment that we experienced upon dining at Limosneros. everything from start to finish was above and beyond what we expected. Upon entering, we were greeted by the lovely hostess, who happily showed us to our table. When you enter your greeted by a beautiful wine room, showcasing the restaurants, impressive wine list. The dining room is decorated in a minimalist fashion however, it feels very warm and welcoming. Our server, axel, was beyond reproach. He attended to everyone of our requests and provided a detailed history of the restaurant as well as the items on the menu. The Hamachi crudo was incredibly fresh, served with a miso sauce that perfectly complimented the fish. Not to be missed or the beef cheese, donuts. And one of the most creative and delicious things I have ever experienced in my dining career. Macerated beef cheeks formed into a doughnut and lightly dusted with tempura, flake, and deep-fried served with a "drunken sauce "that could be a star of its own. For the main, we had the catch of the day, which was a Seabass that was served with a vanilla cream foam topped with greens, this dish was both playful and absolutely gorgeous to look at, as well as incredibly delicious. Service is 8/10 our server was very kind and tried so hard to communicate what the dishes were in English. -5/10 for food because after that experience I feel like we were scammed. It was the worst chefs sampling I have ever had. The best out of 7 dishes was the crispy sea bass and the dessert. Drinks were okay but not worth the price. The server recommended this really good mezcal that was like 22$ that was the only thing worth the price. In the end our check WITH OUT tip for 3 people was 7,698 pesos. We still left a 20% because it's not the servers fault. This meal was the worst meal I have ever had in Mexico and the worst chefs menu I have ever had anywhere. My partner brought me here for a lovely meal to kick off our vacation in Mexico City. After extensive research, we chose Limosneros as all of the menu items looked incredible. We got a very warm greeting upon arrival and were seated immediately. The interior was beautiful! The waiters were very friendly, and our drinks came out quickly along with a complimentary starter. We had ordered three appetizers to start, and they very graciously spaced them out into separate course. The food was all so good that we ended up getting a fourth dish! While all of the dishes were amazing, my favorite was the beef cheek donuts - there was so much more meat inside than I was expecting and super flavorful, and the accompanying sauce paired so well. The tartare topped with chorizo was another standout dish for us. We both really enjoyed our cocktails - I don't recall what my partner got, but mine was the Canallo, which was a delightful peanutty sweet chile drink. I can't rave enough about the service. They shared with us more about the history of the building, they replaced our dishes and silverware between each course, and were always very friendly. We felt like royalty. We popped in for a Mezcalita to escape the afternoon thunderstorms on our way to Historico Central to see Templo Mayor and the Cathedral. A friend had recommended this place (I now know she can no longer be trusted for food recs), and I must warn all patrons to please SKIP this joint and keep moving. We were told we would need to relinquish the table by 9, in an hour, which we agreed to do. But instead of moving with alacrity to take and deliver our order, the service was slow as molasses and surly to boot. The food: having had absolutely incredible cuisine in Mexico City the previous days (tacos, tortilla soup, sopes with marrow, pastries) all throughout Roma, condessa and Cuyocan, I can say with certainty that this was our worst meal of the trip. Strange culinary concepts, tasteless produce, undercooked rice, watery cocktails. But that wasn't the true nadir of the meal; that would have to be our waiter, who yelled at us--repeating over and over again a phrase we didn't understand about our credit card, and not allowing us time to even figure out what he was saying. There was something positively menacing about his behavior, and left us feeling regretful that we had deigned to try a spot in the city center (frequented by gringo tourists such as ourselves). The inauthentic and tasteless food we might have deserved, but not that end of the night treatment. Go to Pollos Ponchos instead!!! Great chicken, way less expensive, happy patrons and servers. read more

Super cute restaurant! Pretty pricey but I see why they attempt an upscale experience. The service was okay unfortunately the kitchen took forever. Our server Emiliano is who saved this dinner. We had reservations at 6pm didn't leave until 9pm. About 2.5 hours for an eight course meal. Some meals had 20 mini waits between dishes so please come prepared to wait. I felt a bit excessive of a wait when folks who got sat way after us got their food first and left before us within that three hours. I don't think the course menu is prioritized the kitchen. The food was nice and had a cute local twist to things. Some of my favorites were the bass and parsnip purée plate, the duck was very good and crispy skinned. My least favorite was the langostin soup which had this overwhelming taste of frozen Cajun flavored crawfish which through me off plus it was salty. The soup with corn and in a broth was okay nothing too crazy tasting. Was hard to grasp the flavors but the textures are there. I'll be glad to be back but I want to try the taco course instead of the recommended 8 course they have. Cool thing is you can order Al a carte and share anything from these tasting dinners. Amazing! Staff was great and explain everything even to guests with poor Spanish speaking skills. And even worse comprehension. The drinks were superb and we loved their focus on local suppliers of tequila and mezcal. The space was beautiful and an excellent location. Table side salsa was such a bonus. This was our first night in Meixco and we had made reservations here. The hostess was really nice and so was our server. Not too much English speaking but hey it's Mexico, we knew enough to get by and there was another server who stopped by from time to time who knew a little bit more English to help us. We ordered 2 types of tacos and guac. Both tacos were really good! They had very interesting layers of flavor that worked well together. Their tacos are served in pairs, not a lot of food but first night in Mexico and we weren't sure how our stomachs would handle. The guac was really good. I thought they were going to mash it infront of us, but that's not the case. It came out nicely seasoned and had some chunks here and there. The "chips" were not like your typical chips that you would expect to get. They were like the size of a taco wrapper and baked(?). There were 2 styles of the chips, i'm not sure what the difference was, definitely a difference is taste and a slight one in texture, both were really good! Also don't worry about running out of chips, they will bring you more if you run out and still have guac. We were too full and saw the item after we were done eating, but they have octopus! Luckily, we were let in to get a table for 2 without a reservation, this gets them a star. The restaurant decor is great. Such a charming, rustic-chic ambiance. I see they are attempting to showcase the best of Mexican cuisine with a creative twist. The food was delicious we started with the croquetas as an appetizer- no complaints. However, when it came to the main courses, the portion sizes were incredibly small. I ordered the mojarra, at first glance it looked burned but it wasn't. The mole is off to the side and there should've been more since Mojarra is dry. This was by far the smallest mojarra I've ever been served in my life. It almost felt like a tasting menu portion rather than a full entrée. The accompaniments were equally well-prepared but also minimal, leaving me a bit underwhelmed in terms of overall quantity. The avocado was less than a quarter slice! I would've understood if these items were part of a 10 course tasting menu but they weren't. This was my entree and it was as they say in Spanish "solo para una muela" which roughly translates to about enough food for 1 tooth. While it's clear that a lot of care and artistry goes into every plate, I left feeling like I had only sampled the menu rather than enjoyed a full meal. If you're looking for exquisite flavors and don't mind smaller portions, Limosneros is worth a visit. For those with heartier appetites, you might want to plan for an additional stop afterward. All in all, a memorable dining experience that just missed the mark in terms of portion size. read more

Disappointed this visit. It used to be one of our favorites and we would go twice a year while in CDMX. Granted its been 3 years but still. There are many servers but our dedicated server was not interested in us at all. Not engaged and did not care. We had to ask other servers for water, salt etc. The food is still excellent but the price has gone up significantly. If I going to spend that kind of money Ill go to Rosetta where the service AND food are excellent. To give you an idea 2 mezcals each, 2 soups, 3 shared appetizers and one main was over $3,400 pesos. The main was Black Cod and cooked perfectly but was almost $50 for a 4 oz portion. Simply not worth it. There is better in CDMX and better value. read more

Located in the heart of the historic district, Limosneros has the perfect combination of a relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere and absolutely outstanding food. The waiters were attentive and kind, making recommendations and filling out the warm atmosphere. We split the beet salad on a spread of beet hummus, which was lick-worthy. To follow were the tacos filled with pulled pork and the absolutely flavorful sea bass on a bed of polenta and balsamic. Amazing food and experience. I'm a locavore and this really got the bill. I love to eat food that has been grown locally and also respects the culture in which it's being served this place it both and it was absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the chef's table. He couldn't finish it. It was so much food. I only ordered two à la carte items and that was plenty for me yet i didn't have several taste of my husband's chef's table that were not included in my à la carte items. It's a little bit pricey, but if you can afford it, it is very much worth it. Kudos to the helpers for everything they did for us. I am in a wheelchair and it was wheelchair accessible and they help me get to washroom in the building next-door because their washroom was downstairs. Out appetizers were served with the kind of florish you would expect from a fine dining experience. The tortilla soup and and squash tacos were both delightful. We both ordered the same entree: the Cornish hen. After a long wait, one finally emerged. We were told the other would be out shortly. I told my dining companion to go ahead and enjoy while it was hot. He did not enjoy his -- he said the hen tasted mealy. We waited another 15 minutes for my meal to come out. A waiter came over and told us it would just be another 5 minutes. I got fed up and canceled my entree and asked for the bill. After 5 more minutes, a waitress came over to see if we would like dessert. Tired and hungry, I told her I didn't get an entree, I definitely don't want a dessert. I just wanted the bill. In all, it took me asking one more time and waiting another 10 minutes. The bill finally came, and there was no effort to appease us for the terrible experience. Nor was there any real apology for the entree that never came or the bill that seemed impossible to produce. My wife and I had dinner here in mid Sep 2023. What a great experience. Top 3 dining experiences of the last 10 years. I've never really drunken Mezcal (or don't remember it) but they have artisan Mezcals so I decided to give it a try. The hostess guided me through selection and process graciously. The Mezcal was great with multiple layers of flavor and a beautiful oaky finish a few seconds later. This would be a theme. We had two appetizers. The Sardines and Potatoes were brilliant. The potatoes squares were lightly crunchy on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside. The sardine with the thinnest baked onion slice led to a beautiful tasting experience. The flavors presented and built on each other in perfect harmony. Second was the Braised Cheek Donuts in Drunken Red Sauce. It consisted of braised beef somehow roped in a circle and with a thin crust making a beautiful donut that when dipped into the light, favorable mole sauce was divine. Again multiple flavors presenting themselves in order and harmony. For the main course, I had the 21 day aged duck paired with burnt onion sauce, white chocolate / cauliflower sauce and some kind of mole. I know it sounds odd but it was super special and all worked together. Nothing overpowered each other and somehow the flavors come out at different times as you savor it. The restaurant is decorated in a fun and eclectic design. The staff is great. Bill totaled $210 USD for a couple for drinks, wine, 3 appetizers and an entree. read more

Went here at the suggestion of my friend who's Come back twice now, every time he's in CDMX. This place truly deserves to be a star of its own, I know Mexico City is a culinary paradise but if all the impressive places I had the fortune to visit this place takes the cake. The quality of the food and service and presentation, rivals that of a Michelin rated restaurant. Here they use ingredients pre-colonialism, using what the indigenous ingredients of the region. The whole place is a work of art from the food, each plate or is served on, the walls, and the bathrooms and located in the historic district of is easy to miss but definitely not a hole in the wall. Be sure to order the soups because the presentation alone is a show in itself (make sure everyone gets different soups so you can try them all), then we had the Wagyu tacos, rabbit taco, octopus, quail, croquetas. And for dessert banana crème brûlée, sorbet, and chocolate tamale. Be sure to make room for desert and agua Fresca of the day! read more

Disappointing for the price. Food took forever to serve. It was beautifully presented but just not that good. Also, no one ever told us that you get two tacos when you order one, so we overordered. The service was good but a bit too much. They changed our plates every two minutes. I asked for my fruits drink to be with flat water instead of bubbly and he told me no that wasn't possible. This place was recommended as a must visit during our recent visit to CDMX. For a larger group trying to get last minute reservations it was a great option in lieu of the tougher tables at other top restaurants. However, it's a bit disheartening that everyone at the table must do the taco tasting so it didn't allow for much versatility in the dinner options. Some of my personal favorites in the taco tasting due to layers of flavors: the rabbit, Chile relleno and the pork stuffed onion. Due to texture, the blossom crunch was the best one. I wish there was a little more complexity in the tortilla. Some felt like they would sit great as a main dish with some of the delicious mole and salsas lathered on a plate. Cocktails were great and gave me an opportunity to try a new liqour, Pox, while still enjoying my cocktail and dinner. Ambiance is great with so much cultural nods in the decor. Having already eaten at Maximo, Entremar, and Merotoro - three other good restaurants in CDMX - this one was possibly a 4.0 for some dishes, but let down by some things, which resulted in a 3 star rating. Ambiance is nice - a little more upscale than casual, but this is not fine dining. Bare wooden tables that are industrial style. Service was OK, but not fine dining style. Two of the dishes we had were good: the beef donuts for starter, and the quail for mains. The white mole with the quail was exceptional - get it if you like satay peanut sauce, it's similar in taste. Two other dishes fell a bit flat: the seafood soup - too plain, not rich enough of a broth. So lacked any wow. And the wagyu steak, while a reasonable amount of wagyu for the price (compared to the UK), the meat itself was too dry. Portions were OK - smaller than the three other places we've been to, so having a starter and a main each is about right here. Pricing was high. I'd say the same level as the three restaurants above, but given that some of the dishes weren't wow, it then became a bit pricey. Plus, the cheapest water they have is imported Acqua Panna, at 130+ pesos a bottle....! Overall, you'll get at least an above average meal here, with above average service, and above average ambiance. But given the prices they charge, that is expected. So hence the 3 stars. read more

They do not respect reservations, which caused a lot of inconvenience. When I tried to address the issue, the customer service was practically nonexistent. We walked around and waited for about an hour and a half until we finally asked if we were next because we never heard from them. They took us to a crappy table in the corner by the server areas where it was super busy with servers entering and exiting and we asked to move since there were several open tables. They said no. We didn't do the tasting menu because of my (very annoying) peanut allergy but essentially picked our own tasting menu. Our server was just wonderful and made the best recommendations for us. The FOOOOOOOD. omg. We had the steak and chorizo tar tar with some cactus chips, the tuna and watermelon, the crispy scaled fish loin (my favorite), the 21 day aged skirt steak tacos, and the dessert taco with watermelon sorbet... I can't even express how impressed we were with the service and the food quality. It very strongly rivaled any restaurant I've been to in DC, NYC or Chicago. It's a beautiful restaurant inside and the hanging globes of mezcal over the bar and the way it's served in a little wooden bowl is just the most perfect finishing touches. For our last night in Mexico City, we wanted to try a nicer, upscale place and Limosneros fit the bill. Some of the other well known, high end restaurants were booked. Luckily, Limosneros answered our last minute phone call for a reservation. We opted to have one person do the regular tasting menu and one person to do the taco tasting menu and we split everything. Service was very friendly, yet classy. The time between courses took a while, so I would probably opt for a wine pairing or something alcoholic next time to just pass the time lol. There were lots of crispy fried bugs involved, but there was nothing that was too strange for me to eat. Because we split everything, I felt like I got to try dozens of dishes. My favorite thing they did plating-wise was that they served the tacos on heated stones! Everyone needs to do this. Since we were splitting each dish, this helped a lot because the second person to try a taco still got to eat a properly warm tortilla. My random notes: *Salmon tartare little too salty, taco with beef was delicious, and the red mole was my favorite *Langostine taco served on warm stone was really good, rabbit taco was fun to try, and the pork taco served with chapulines was tender and flavorful read more

BEWARE! Dishonest & potentially racist, with mediocre food and questionable service. 1. Seated us at a corner table next to piled chairs despite informing a birthday occasion. Our table was largely ignored. Seeing other comments on explicitly racist behaviour, we couldn't help but wonder if our Asian names played a role. 2. Dishonesty 1: The server claimed a dish was unavailable, then served it and whispered it was "specially" served just for us. Nice touch--until it turned out he'd mixed up the names and it was a different dish that was actually unavailable. What an utterly pointless lie. Worse - despite us clearly declining that unavailable dish, they sent out a substitute chicken anyway, the exactly declined alternative lollll 3. Dishonesty 2: When he dropped 2 donuts (one on table one on floor), he removed the one from the table, almost immediately served one back and the 2nd was mysteriously never replaced. How is it that one donut was "ready" instantly while the other vanished into the void? Likely story: he just took it, returned it, and hoped we wouldn't notice, probably skipping the food team altogether to dodge blame. Lastly, the food was average at best, with the only decent dish tasting like BBQ sauce. read more

Someone told me about this restaurant prior to my trip to Mexico City so I made reservations in advance. This is an upscale restaurant and the prices a bit higher than most restaurants for the city but totally worth it. The service here was excellent and so was the food. I got to try the steak tacos, Lamp chops, Squid risotto and steak. I have to say all dishes were delicious and you wont be disappointed. They had a pre fixe menu which seem very reasonable to me but after eating our way through Mexico City we didn't have room to eat 6 courses. If you are in the area and are looking for a pretty place with great food then look no further. read more
