We didn't want to leave our car parked at the Austin airport for 2 weeks, and knew we'd be jet-lagged on our return. I feel fortunate to have found A Cheap Ride and Pat Johnson. As it turned out, our first experience with Pat showed exactly how good he is. Our British Airways flight outbound was delayed, but we received little information on our end as to the reason for the delay or how late the flight might be. Coincidentally, Pat was expecting to pick up a passenger on the inbound non-stop from LHR (which was obviously delayed as well). Through Pat, we found out more than we were able to get online from the carrier! We were also delayed on our return flight, but Pat was there waiting in baggage claim for us. His service is simply over the top. We enjoyed conversing with Pat as he drove. Since he's been in the Austin/Round Rock area for many years, he's accumulated a wealth of knowledge about the area, local people, and local businesses. His retention of information and attention to detail are amazing. And while he's a careful and cautious driver, he made excellent time getting us to and from the airport. Pat is very much in touch with his customers, knows his business well, and cares about the quality of service his company provides. He is an excellent communicator, so you can feel confident that he will keep you informed as to when you'll be picked up. And, most importantly in this type of business, he is reliable, punctual, and does exactly what he says he will. I highly recommend A Cheap Ride for an excellent experience.

Years ago, I stumbled upon them on complete accident - funny how life works out. I had a very last-minute trip and needed a ride to the airport. I contemplated Uber but didn't trust their driver availability for an early morning flight. Pat promptly returned my call and I booked our first trip with him. We later found out he does field his own calls so he may not answer the phone if he is driving (which I appreciated when I was in the car). As others have mentioned, Pat is a great conversationalist and a wealth of information. Having grown up in the area, he knows it like the back of his hand. On a more recent airport trip, my SO discovered he forgot something, and Pat offered to make a stop at the store so we could buy it before we departed. This gesture alone demonstrates how above and beyond he is willing to go to make sure you have everything you need. Not only that, but he knew exactly where a store was when we were driving on a random section of Toll road. And there I was in the backseat still trying to pull up my Google Maps. It is his consistent attention to detail that we most appreciate. He texts us the day before pickup so we can sleep well knowing he'll be there tomorrow. He keeps an eye on our flight status and will text if there's any delays. He also keeps an eye on TSA wait times so we know what to expect when we get to the airport. And of course, all his cars are spotless, well-maintained and sanitized between each trip. The short of it is that this is a locally-owned business I am glad to continue to support for years to come. The Case of the No Show Cab…read more My friends and I were attending a wedding outside of Austin. I knew that Uber had already left and there was a hodgepodge of rideshare services that rose from Uber's ashes. After some phone calls we decided, "Hey 2 Star Yelp business a chance, what's the worst that can happen?". We reserved 3 vans to be picked up at midnight at the wedding venue. Lo and behold, midnight strikes and I had a Cinderella at the ball moment. I went from feeling like the belle to a puddle of sadness, because at this point of the night I was so exhausted that I had no energy to think. After playing phone tag for 30 minutes, a van finally arrives as we were basking in the moonbeam and start lit night. Women and children went first because chivalry isn't dead. We were told that the other van was behind him and that we should be rescued shortly. This was at 1:30am, after the agreed upon midnight pick up. Another hour went by, and we figured that the taxi cab has left us stranded 28.4 Miles from Austin. We cut our losses and we had two people from the one AND only van that came and picked us up and dropped them off come to get us. We finally got home at 3am. Despite the crappy ordeal, we now have a greater appreciation for Uber. You da real MVP. Austin misses you.

This is the worst cab company I've ever dealt with in my life…read more I called at 1:58pm for them to pick me up so I can go to the dentist for 3pm. The commute should only take 20 minutes from my job to the location and the dispatcher said yeah no problem that's perfect be there in twenty. He knew I had a 3pm appointment. Twenty minutes roll by and I call back and he says oh I had to pick someone up at the airport. I'll be there in 20; which is ridiculous cause he said that twenty minutes ago. It's clear at this point that the dispatcher and the driver is the same person. Because he txt's me 5 mins later saying he's 12 miles away?!? Then at 2:40 I'm leaving an angry voicemail when he calls in and tells me to call yellow cab instead, he's in traffic. Are you freaking kidding me!!!!! He totally blew any chance of making my appointment and possibly made so I have to take another half day at work. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!
