I've been to the Brewster in for cocktails on the lawn years ago. This was my first time dining here and it was amazing. We had a 6:30 reservation on a Saturday and had the option of dining outside on the patio or inside. We opted for inside and were promptly sat at a window table. We had a great view of the lake and the patio. It was a perfect night watching the sun set over the water. (For anyone who finds restaurant proposals to be their thing, this is definitely worth a consideration). Our waitress was on top of her game noting the specials, recommendations and quick to answer our questions. Every special sounded delicious and it was hard to choose. Our meal was absolutely delicious. We ordered the spicy lobster pasta and the chicken francaise. Huge chunks of lobster, fresh pasta and a sauce perfectly spiced. The chicken was cooked perfectly. I was a bit surprised they did not serve bread with the entree but TBH we were both stuffed after finishing our meal. There was enough leftover pasta to box up for dinner the next night. After dinner we walked out to the water and checked out the boats. Ladies, be careful where you step on the dock. Seems like the geese like it here too! The back patio is huge, and has a dedicated bar. Attire was both dressy and casual and the clientele was a mix of young and old. While being more of an upscale restaurant it has a neighborhood vibe to it. I would 100% recommend dining here! I can't say much about the inn except that the building itself is beautiful. This establishment continues to amaze me! If you're looking for a cozy, historical mansion by the lake feel, this is THE PLACE! The restaurant is incredible, with stunning lake views. The entire mansion is in impeccable condition, with antiques all around. Every employee is welcoming and inviting. They have an entire take out menu, and seafood area. The people who work in the kitchen and at the counter are top notch! Knowledgeable, friendly, and hard-working. They have a large horseshoe parking lot, and you are able to drive right up to the door to unload, and load. The inn rooms are reasonably priced. This restaurant makes chili for the annual local Chilly Chili race in Cazenovia, and this year the race was postponed after they had made their batch. They offered their chili up to the public to take. We stopped by and they sent us along with an entire container of chili. It was outstanding! I had the halibut topped with crab special and it was one of the best fish entrees I have ever ate in my life. The food quality here is stellar. Everything on the menu is terrific including the New York strip and the truffle Ahi. The scenery of the lake just completed the experience. Came here for a birthday dinner, and it did not disappoint! Staff was friendly and reliable, and the place had a cozy yet elegant ambiance. The wine menu was extensive, with options both by the bottle and by the glass. There were also several seasonal cocktails. We started with the butternut bisque, pork belly, and ceviche appetizers. Everything was very tasty, with the pork belly being a standout for me. For mains we got the braised beef special and the lobster risotto. Both were positively outstanding. For dessert we got the vanilla bean creme brulee, which was deliciously silky and flavorful. The staff was kind enough to also bring out a little birthday dessert with a birthday candle. The Brewster Inn hosted a dinner pairing Harvest Dinner. At a higher price point (120pp) the amount was justified. All the dishes were very well prepared and served at the appropriate temperatures. Not all of the items are offered on the regular inn menu but the meal preparation for this event is a great representation of the chef's offerings. The wines were mindfully paired with each dish to enhance flavor. The scenery and place settings were seasonal and beautiful. The only thing I might note is I was a bit surprised to see the servers also tasting the wines at the prep area where the wine glasses were being prepared. While that may have been a perk of the job, it may have been more professional had they tasted in a private area where guests could not see them. I was in Cazenovia this weekend traveling there from Delaware to visit our old stomping grounds. After living in that area for over 30 years, The Brewster Inn was always a favorite. After six years away, I was thrilled to see that our dinner was spectacular! I had Chicken Francaise. The sauce was amazing and the serving size was very filling. My friends had steak tips with orzo pasta and maple glazed salmon. All delicious. Our appetizer was fried squash blossoms and dessert was a deconstructed coconut crème pie. They are unmatched in their professionalism, presentation and staff expertise. Finally, we had a table outside so we could watch the sunset over the lake. The table heater and touch lantern helped make for a perfect dinner that I will treasure for years! read more

This place got my attention originally as I was looking for somewhere to stay that was near Bouckville New York, as I was heading there for dinner and wanted to spend the night nearby, and everywhere else that I found that was nice had a two-night minimum stay for the weekends. This place did as well, however I was able to grab a room that someone else had on Friday and Saturday and I'm looking to stay on Sunday so they let me do just the one night. So of course as long as I'm going to be staying here, I figured I would take advantage of their Sunday brunch. It was incredible. I got a simple chicken and waffles dish and it showed up to the table it looked like a couple of frozen chicken tenders and these two little tiny waffles, however upon tasting it I realized that was actually some really good chicken, probably carved up earlier in the day, and the waffles were amazing not to mention the flavor on the maple syrup. My wife had creme brulee french toast with strawberries which was also amazing. A side of double smoked bacon, cranberry white chocolate scones & pastrami smoked salmon for an appetizer. We left there rather satisfied and will be returning. The wait staff was very attentive and seemed to show up at our table right when we were looking for them. We are currently in the room and it's really nice. It has a king sized bed, full sized shower with 4 shower heads and a beautiful view of cazenovia lake. We went for our birthday dinner and were very impressed. The service is extraordinarily friendly and welcoming. Our server remembered my sister and i from our birthday last year! My sister asked for a vegetarian menu and we felt very seen by the attention to our dietary needs. We started off with the Tempura Squash blossoms, we thought they were very light and creamy, and especially liked the cheese inside. a perfect summer app! We also got the focaccia and Smoked salmon, which is always an appetizer staple. The Smoked salmon has a delicious flavor paired with the aoli, and the foccacia is a classic bread. For my entree I ordered the Truffle encrusted Big Eye tuna, in fact 5 of my family members ordered that as well! It's a family favorite. Perfect for pescatarians. The Fish itself on the outside was perfectly crispy and crunchy, while the inside is soft and flavorful. We always enjoy the pasta and spinach that comes along with it. 3.5 stars. This is a beautiful location on the lake. We came on a rainy day that was pretty chilly so did not have a great view. We sat outside and they had a rain cover which was nice. Staff at front desk was pleasant and greeted us kindly. The tables outside are all meant for 4-6 people. The atmosphere is very casual and it seems like it is European style (slow relaxed service), but it was a bit too lax for my personal taste (10 minutes between drink order and dinner order, 20 minutes between dinner order and receiving appetizers, not much check up in between). We ended up ordering bread with pesto since the wait was so long (I was a bit surprised that such a high end restaurant did not provide complementary bread, especially with such long wait times). Food and drink-wise, we ordered to mocktails (a POG mule and a strawberry greyhound), escargot, the bread with pesto, spicy lobster pasta, filet mignon. The drinks were delicious! A very nice addition to the meal and nice flavor combinations. I also really enjoyed the escargot; full of flavor and several delicious ingredients, piping hot. Lobster pasta was tasty and portion was large (very al dente spaghetti which is nice), though we were very full and could not have too much of it. It was not very spicy though. Filet mignon came out more medium than medium rare, but was tender and flavorful. I prefer my veggies on the side rather than on top of the mashed potatoes. We were too full for the dessert since the bread filled us up. Overall, a nice ambience and probably one of the nicer restaurants in the area, but nothing to write home about, especially for price point (approximately $50 an entree, $12-$20 per appetizer). read more

We have been coming to the Brewster Inn for years, whenever we visit our family's lake house in the area. It has long been our favorite place and I hate to leave this kind of review but the nasty treatment I just had at front desk was not called for. My husband and I came in the other night for dinner and picked up a pint of what was supposed to chocolate ice cream on our way out - we paid cash for the ice cream. Unfortunately, it turned out to be coffee ice cream which neither of us like or wanted so I asked for a refund. Since I had paid cash I didn't have a receipt (I did have my am ex for the dinner) and since we are heading home, we didn't need another pint of ice cream so asked for a refund. Not a big deal but overall but woman at the front desk was extremely condescending and nasty - when I explained that I didn't have the receipt she said " I have more important things to worry about than an $8 pint of ice cream." That's fantastic - maybe not making people feel stupid might be one of the more important things? I went back because it was annoying to buy something that was clearly labeled incorrectly and was not cheap. (She did give me the $8 refund along with the snarky comment) Definitely not the "icing" on the crappy cake ! read more

This is a consistently great experience with incredible views of Cazenovia Lake. The menu is full of great choices but what adds a twist and difficult choice when ordering are the specials. Just when you zero in on a choice on the menu the staff comes out with incredible specials. The staff was great and our waitress was absolutely amazing particularly with her knowledge of the food choices. Being graduation weekend I was almost expecting to be somewhat rushed through the meal but it was just the opposite as we had an incredibly relaxing time with friends and family. Onto the food...you cannot go wrong with the Focaccia bread, Tempura Squash blossoms or Thai Calamari for appetizers. While slightly pricey, the oysters are always fresh and tasty. Realistically, knowing the labor involved in harvesting oysters and then transporting them it's difficult to argue the price. The main course dinner menu is full of flavorful dishes and any of them are a good choice depending on your mood. If the special includes the pork chops I would highly recommend experiencing this dish as it is a massive, tasty bone in pork chop. read more

Wow this place is worth every penny. The scenery is beautiful looking out on to the lake. I can't wait for their outside patio to open. Our waitress was very attentive and kind. We both started off with a cocktail, focaccia bread, charred octopus, and some tuna toro ceviche oysters. The octopus was a fan favorite but everything was great. Personally, I loved that the basil pesto oil for the bread was nut-free. The oysters were from MA and so fresh. I got the braised beef special for dinner and my partner got the lobster pasta. Again, so good! We both ended up sharing with each other because we couldn't get enough of each. Finished off with coconut pineapple rum cake and carrot cake for dessert. Love this venue! It's always clean and delicious and the staff is friendly! I love the oysters here. They have a wonderful variety. One of my favorite apps is the pastrami smoked salmon. The meat and cheese board was outstanding! Everything on it was wonderful, the only critique is more crostini. Since I've gotten pregnant I appreciated the mocktail menu. I really liked the blueberry faux-jito. Fresh mint and perfect blueberries. The desserts are always delicious. Went here for a birthday dinner. Had reservations in advance which is a must. Everyone was very nice and even let us pick the table we were going to sit at. Food was great. We started with the bread that was amazing and we both got the French onion soup to start. For dinner my husband got the filet mignon and he liked that. I got the chicken française, which was really good and a big portion. For dessert we opted for the crème brûlée. Only disappointing thing was there was other birthdays around us and they were getting a candle with their dessert and I did not and my husband had told them it was my birthday, so that was only a mild letdown. Our server also didn't tell us the desert specials for that night, but did give us the desert list. However, when I heard the other table getting told the dessert specials, I probably would've tried the special cream Brulé they were serving that night if I had known about it. Cazenovia Lake is small but beautiful. Brewster Inn is the only hotel on the lake. Our room in the Carriage House was above our expectations. Clean, unique, and comfortable, the vaulted ceiling is adorned with rustic beams from the original construction in the late 1800s. The dining experience was spot on for my wife and I, as it was very appropriate for our anniversary dinner. We dined on the lakeside patio, charmed by the gorgeous Upstate NY sunset. Meg's Spicy Lobster Pasta followed her appetizer of on-site baked bread with pesto dipping oil. Both were rave worthy, according to Meg. My Chicken Francaise, following an excellent French Onion Soup, was superb. We had a locally produced Riesling that surprised us with it's character and quality. The servers and staff made us feel like we were the only guests. That with every room booked, and well over 200 guests enjoying dinner at the Inn. Over all, I recommend a stay of any length. You can expect premium prices, but you'll get a premium experience. read more

While dining at the Brewster is not something I do often, I am always reminded after my visits here why I should experience it more often, even if just for a drink. Situated right on the south end of Cazenovia Lake, the Brewster has wonderful views of the sun setting and provides a great ambience for diners on their outdoor patio area. If fresh air isn't your thing, the dining room inside has its own charm inside the old hotel with classic architecture and decoration - especially during the holidays! On my most recent visit, we enjoyed the complimentary bread and dipping oil along with an order of escargot and assorted oyster shooters. The escargot is phenomenal and the sauce doubles as a good spot to dip your bread into once the appetizer is finished. While not being a big fan of oysters, it was hard to say no to our server's recommendation to try some of the milder varieties they had available to try. I was glad I did as they were tasty and went well with the escargot and drinks we had ordered. For our entrees, we went with the chicken francaise and the salmon. Both were excellent. To round our our meal, we shared a berry dessert that was appropriately sized for sharing. Throughout the meal the service was the real standout. Our server made great recommendations on what to order, which drinks we might want to try, and which dessert would match up well with the rest of the meal we just enjoyed. While the cost of a meal here is at the top of the spectrum, the service and setting are more than up to the task of making you feel you got your money's worth. I can't recommend the Brewster enough. Was th start of Cazenovia Dining Week, so there was a special 3 course menu for $33 with several good choices. All 4 of us selected from those specials and they did not disappoint! Had a special birthday dinner with my wife and two friends here last night. Always a top choice for fine dining, cocktails and an extensive wine list. We started things off with a cheese board and a half dozen freshly shucked east coast oysters. Wonderful! For entrees we ordered the swordfish special, filet mignon (better than Ruth Chris) and splurged on two of the 20oz prime steaks (the best steaks, perfectly cooked, I've ever had in my life). By the end we were so full that the best the four of us could do was to share a single dish of creme brulee. We have been here before and had a great meal and marvelous experience. We decided last minute to go for a birthday dinner traveling from Rochester on Wednesday September 4. We could not book online and the phone calls went unanswered. I thought well possibly there is a wedding, but no mention of it being closed on their website. When we arrived at 5:30 we were disappointed to see a sign on the door that they were closed for 3 days. I just wish it had been posted online. That would have saved me some time, and would have been good etiquette. (Fortunately another good restaurant in Cazenovia was available on a nice summer night.) read more

This place was gorgeous! It is very festive for the holidays. It has a nice patio and overlooks the lake. Our waiter was great! He was attentive and no over bearing and he was very accommodating with our toddler with making sure she had a toddler cup and small plates. I had a cranberry margarita which was good but not the best one I've had. Maybe there other drinks would be better and they did have a huge selection of drinks! The food was next level! I highly recommend the Mac and cheese and even the fries were good. I had the spicy lobster rigatoni which was delicious! The French onion soup was perfect and for desert I had the dark chocolate mousse which was very sweet but amazing! I highly recommend this place! We are visiting our extended family in Syracuse this weekend and went last night for dinner. As the name suggests this is a B&B situated on lake Cazenovia. It was too dark to actually see the lake but I am told it's pretty. We also didn't see any of the rooms to comment on their lodging options. With the holidays, the restaurant was decorated with holiday trimmings, and a lit tree. We had made reservations and seated promptly. Service was impeccable through our our meal. They have an extensive wine and whisky menu including a full Pappy selection and some high end scotches. Once we got our drinks, we were offered warm bread which went very well with the accompanying pesto oil to dip in. For apps, we got the char grilled octopus with greek yogurt and the salmon carpaccio. They were both excellent. The octopus was very tender and flavorful. For dinner I got the Hawaiian big eye tuna served with a side of spinach and pasta. Tuna was prepared rare and was finger licking good. Others at the table got lamb chops and the sea bass and everything tasted really good. For desert we got the soufflé which was had ordered earlier in the meal since it does take 20-30 min to prepare. Their Sunday brunch buffet was fantastic with an omelette bar, awesome bacon, carved beef, lots of pastries and love that dessert station. The dinner we had to celebrate my nephews college graduation was spot on. Their seafood crepe was the highlight of my meal. I would order that every time I'm back here. I rarely write or leave negative reviews unless they are warranted. We stayed here last weekend for one night at total cost of $342. The power went out in the middle of the evening and never returned. Our room didn't have a backup generator which is surprising for a hotel as expensive as The Brewster. Therefore we had flashlights on in our room early in the morning as it was too warm as there was no light (1 window) and no AC, resulting in a very early checkout. After asking for what I thought was a fair 50% credit (had to follow up on my own multiple times) I was told there would be no credit. The response from the owner was that we are on the lakefront (our carriage house was away from the lake) and there was no fine print that my particular room didn't come with a generator in case the power went out, although the other building at the hotel does. Really disappointing service from a hotel I was very excited about. read more

The inn itself was lovely and the view from some of the rooms quite beautiful. Unfortunately, the staff was unfriendly and often gave the impression that they have never worked in hospitality before. No one smiled, rarely were we greeted, they would finish conversations with each other before acknowledging a guest. The food was very good, however the wait for it to come out of the kitchen was very long and a few intoxicated patrons at the bar knocked things over. Three times we heard dishes crash to the floor. The carpets look old and dirty but otherwise the space was clean. The cleaning person was possibly the most rude member of the staff that we encountered which is atypical in my experience. Pros: it pretty and the food is good. Cons: lacking in hospitality and carpets are gross. read more

Birthday gal & I split our usual wedge salad when at the Brewster Inn. My spouse had their Roth Blue Cheese Salad with wild greens, sliced grapes, pecans & aged balsamic. Excellent. They had a Short Rib special, my spouse's favorite and she enjoyed every bite. Brewster Fish Market Cioppino, daily special fish stew which was a smoked Haddock with a tomato saffron broth, wild mussels & blue crab - with tons of crab. Their fresh Bread to enjoy the broth of course - you have to dunk! :) My buddy had their - Truffle Encrusted Honolulu Big Eye Tuna balsamic teriyaki, shichimi aioli, sautéed spinach & fresh handmade pasta. At the end of a 10-day trip, we spent two nights at the Brewster Inn. The Inn is an outstanding change from the usual corporate hotel chains where we typically stay. Our room was large (the bathroom was a bit small), comfortable, and the bed was great. While we did not have a lake view, we did enjoy looking out at the fall colors in the front of the hotel. The staff was outstanding and very friendly (my wife likes to meet and chat with everyone). As the building is 100+ years old, there is no elevator so lugging your suitcases up the stairs can be a bit challenging, but the staff offered to help. read more

Again, we had an absolute amazing time at the Brewster this time for five nights and explored all over the area again. So much to see and do. The staff here is second to none. They are so friendly and so accommodating. I want to give a shout out to Caitlin who has always been there for us for anything we've ever needed. Especially helping us with our engagement last year. She is an amazing person and employee. Also the chefs are unbelievable. Every year we go my fiance is vegan and every single time they outdo themselves and making something special for her in 4 courses. And our waitress Angela who did a fantastic job that evening. Who also is our waitress at Dave's Diner in town for breakfast. So we had the pleasure of having her service us twice in one day. And the bartenders are spot-on. We ordered one drink one night walked in the room the next night and they had two drinks waiting for us. That is professionalism at its best. So if you're looking for a place to stay that has amazing people and the most delicious food and the nicest accommodations this is where you want to go. We have been going here since we met 5 years ago every year since. And every year we extend it another night. So someday we may be living here. We had both dinner and brunch here this weekend. We have been to the Brewster Inn many times, as we are Colgate parents. The food was generally good, probably the best in the area. Dinner was better than brunch. I'm leaving this time feeling irritated with my experience. When we arrived today, the manager (I assume that's what she was), told us and a few others who arrived just before opening that we were early and had to give them time because they had just left at 10:30 last night and had to be back. It was off putting and rude. We got to our table, everything was wrinkled and nothing ready for the day. Maybe it is a staffing issue- but overall, it left us feeling unwelcome and offended. Just attended a small but beautiful wedding here. The venue was quaint and charming. It is an older mansion with a carriage house turned into an inn many years ago. It is directly on Cazenovia Lake and makes for a gorgeous fall wedding against the calm waters, shining sun and vibrant leaf scape. The ceremony took place on the main lobby staircase and couldn't have been more quintessentially romantic. The area is small so it was opportune that this was a smaller intimate wedding, with about 50 people. Not all 50 of us were able to fit in the space. There were some chairs set up, however most guests stood for the ceremony. There was a very helpful, friendly, professional wedding coordinator that is on staff at the Brewster Inn. She did not mind answering the most inane questions, very patient and pleasant. The rest of the staff was just as wonderful. They brought the loveliest hor d'oeuvres around - beef wellington on toasted rounds, macaroni and cheese balls, buffalo style chicken bites, all extremely palatable. The bar tenders were friendly and aimed to please. I had mimosas at the indoor bar which were perfect and then I spotted, at the outdoor bar, copper cups which of course, meant I had to ask about Moscow Mules and while they didn't have ginger beer, the tender made me one with ginger ale. I was happy with it and then when I asked for more liquor in it, he gladly acquiesced and poured more in! There were three food stations that had some of the best wedding food I have eaten in years. There was a seafood/carving station and the salmon was cooked perfectly, the beef was rare and beautiful, seasoned well and butter tender. The next station I visited was a pasta station which, honestly, at first I was not very excited about, until I saw that a chef was making pasta dishes to order. There was pesto, alfredo and a chunky tomato sauce for gnocchi or fettucini. The choices beyond that included chicken, shrimp, scallops, mushrooms and more. They even had gluten free pasta to make upon request. I highly recommend this as a wedding venue, It was awesome! read more

The food was outstanding. One of the best fillets I've had in a long time. Very attentive staff. Outstanding desserts.

Went here for dinner on a Wednesday night. Still a little cold for outdoor seating so we were inside. Food is defiantly expensive so expect that but everything I ate was good. Started with a Caesar salad and then had traditional shrimp scampi and deconstructed mud pie for desert. I was with a work dinner so not sure I would go if I was paying but everything was good, the atmosphere was nice and I hear when you can eat outside it's beautiful as it is right on the water. Our waitress was very attentive. read more
