But don't let the word hostel scare you. While it's no luxury hotel it's been nice and clean. And it's more expensive than a hostel but there's because an amazing breakfast and dinner are included in the price. They are small dorm hostel style bunkrooms and lots of regular hotel style private rooms. Some have their own bathrooms and some have shared rooms. There is gear room that guests can borrow from which is real handy. And they have guided hikes sometimes and lots of suggestions for activities. And a game room in the basement to go to during quiet hours (this is not a place to come party loudly in your room all night). This is a.place for people who love the outdoors and want to meet new friends. It's run by the AMC which is a non profit so your money is helping out.

I am almost afraid to do this review because then the word will get out about this amazing place…read more We cannot say enough about how wonderful the experience was. Igor, the owner, checks in on you without being intrusive. He is always around if you need anything and is very accommodating. We stayed in Cabin#9. There were 5 of us. We stayed for 6 nights. You walk through a covered porch into an open concept living room/eat in kitchen. There are 2 full bathrooms side by side with walk in showers. Then you walk through each bathroom to get to a bedroom. Each bedroom had a queen bed. Each bathroom and bedroom were nearly identical. Each bedroom had an in-wall air conditioner. There were no air conditioners in the main living space, but we kept the bedroom and bathroom doors open and it kept the place cool. The kitchen is well-equipped with a full sized refrigerator and freezer, stove with oven, toaster, microwave, dishwasher and drip coffee maker. There was an extra leaf for the kitchen table, if needed, and additional folding chairs, if needed. There was a tv in both bedrooms and the living room. One of our kids slept on the couch, which opens to a bed, but she opted to not open it up. There were bath towels for 6 people. Igor offered to provide more if needed. There is no daily cleaning. The cottage came with 3 small bars of soap in each bathroom and some extra toilet paper. There was also dish soap and sponge in kitchen. Some things to consider bringing: toiletries, charcoal and lighter, hair dryer, iron and ironing board (if you are into ironing), pool towels, and board games and playing cards. These were not provided. Also, note there are no on-site guest laundry facilities. There is a laundromat in town, if needed. The outside pool was wonderful. It was between 85 and 87 degrees every day. There were also horseshoes and corn hole. There were tubes to float on by the pool. In the back of each cabin was a small Weber charcoal grill . Bring your own charcoal. There is also a fire pit with cooking grate. The Pemi river runs behind all of the cabins except Cabin#1. The river is too rocky to swim in behind the cabins, but there are other places you can swim in the Pemi, including Cascade Park in the center of North Woodstock, Otter Rocks and Lower Falls. The cabins are very close in walking distance to downtown North Woodstock and there are sidewalks to make it safe. There are wonderful restaurants and quaint shops there. The cabins are very close to the Kangamagus Scenic Byway, which has great pull offs for hiking and scenery, Franconia Notch State Park (less than 10 minutes drive), Lincoln and the Riverwalk by Loon (3 minute drive), White Mountains National Forest (less than 20 minutes). Loon Mountain (5 minutes drive) Cannon Mountain (10 minute drive) Bretton Woods (35-40 minute drive). Firewood was available for sale on site for $6, bags of ice were available for $3.

She even knew exactly who we were because we had made a reservation. The cabin was SO cute. It was well-decorated, clean, and super cozy. We ended up booking a second night because it was such a great stay. The mattress is very, VERY firm. My partner slept great but me, not so much. Still, overall totally worth the stay. The location was fantastic for heading into Franconia Notch and hitting the Kancamangus Highway. Would definitely stay again and would recommend this place.

Carol called us to make sure we were making it up ok. When we arrived at Carlson's Lodge Carol met us to check us in. We hadn't eaten yet and she called a nearby restaurant to see if they could still take us. She also helped us plan our entire day for the next day. She had really good suggestions of different hikes we could do in our time frame. She then took us to our room which had a door code instead of a key which I really liked. She also said that one bed was firm and one bed was plush. This place was perfect for our one night stay. The only thing I would note is there is not a fridge in the room. The lodge was so close to Mt. Willard, the Cog Railway, the Mt Washington Hotel and others. It was a very convenient location and Carol made our stay so much better, would definitely stay again!
