After having experienced two grandparents in the general retirement area, and one of those grandparents later in memory care, I can say with confidence that the family chose well with Morning Star. Yes. There are always difficulties in communication, insurance, billing, and everything else that you might expect from dealing with any sort of business entity at all. This simply comes with the territory. But what makes me happy with how my grandparents lived out their time at Morning Star is the respect, dignity, and help that they got from a great staff. If my grandfather was feeling ill, the staff would bring soup to his room. If he needed help with medicine, there were services to assist in managing his pills. Finally when he died, the staff was helpful to the family in planning for my grandmother. In memory care, my grandmother was taken to every meal, she was brought to the daily activity session, and was never just left in her room to fade away. Her defiance was met with patience, and the staff always let us know about anything she might need (socks, pants, etc.) The last few years of someone's life is an uncomfortable topic. Death is an uncomfortable topic. But I'm so happy that Morning Star made my grandparents last days more bearable. While we've been fortunate that the weather has been mild, that's no excuse for such an extended delay. We were repeatedly told that repairs were "imminent," but those assurances proved false, and Management eventually admitted there was no clear repair plan in place. Temporary cooling and heating units were offered, but expecting residents with dementia or cognitive decline to safely use space heaters is a serious safety concern. To make matters worse, they even suggested that my 90-year-old mother move to another apartment -- an unreasonable and insensitive solution. Yet despite all this, they had no problem cashing her $8,000 rent check within 24 hours, with no offer of credit or adjustment for the ongoing lack of essential services.

Trails right outside to walk, are abundant and also very nice as you walk thru the park right there/golf course. Different sized Rooms make up assisted living (AL) --studio, 1 BR, 2 BR. Memory care (MC) only has 2 sizes of studios--385 and 520 sq feet. The views you have contribute to the price as well. They also have Assisted Living with their Essentials support, provides a bridge between AL and MC. Food is pretty nice. Heritage week was being offered where unique foods from other areas around the world were being featured. Service was pretty great. Kind, compassionate when talking to residents. Beautiful set-up with dishes being offered on display as you walk in. Love the front desk team. All super nice and energetic. Very knowledgable and helpful. A nice sized theater for movies. Arts and crafts room. Library space. Outside deck/seats and tables with a very calming and beautiful view. Exercise class in the morning and other activities throughout the day. Live music/happy hour. Super fun all around. If you are looking for a super nice place where your loved one will be well taken care of, and feel safe and happy, this is your place.

The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, and the staff truly seemed to care about the residents. My aunt moved in about a year ago, and it was a huge adjustment - she had been living independently and had no plans to move. The team at CHAL went above and beyond to help her settle in and feel comfortable in her new home. They were patient, kind, and always took the time to make sure she was doing okay. Now, a year later, she's happy and thriving. She enjoys the staff and the beautiful facility. It's such a relief knowing she's well cared for and surrounded by people who genuinely care about her. I had a client there several years ago, and I have never been so disgusted by what I saw, experienced, or felt. Maybe things are different now, but back then, it was really bad. What I saw: the residents at that time, were not supervised by staff when I was there, and were literally banging their walkers into each other. As they got more and more agitated, I chose to step in since no one else was around to. The residents were up wandering around at all hours of the night, and seemed to be free to go in each other's rooms; I, myself, witnessed other Brookdale inhabitants in my client's room. Some of her personal items turned up missing, and management couldn't account for either the missing items or intrusions; despite repeated requests, they did nothing about either. What I experienced: 99% of the time when I arrived, the residents were pounding on the locked door and shouting "get me out;" when I opened the door, they would rush me and try to leave. I I would do my best to stop them, but couldn't alone control disorderly dementia invalids who nearly bowled me over as I tried to get to my client. Once again, there was no staff in sight. What I felt: my stomach was in knots and I was constantly worried about my client...about her safety, health and welfare. We chose to move her to a different facility where she thrived. Interestingly enough, a staff member from Brookdale predicted that my client would get "kicked out" of any establishment for her behaviors. Instead, she did better than ever. It goes to show that positive attitudes, patience, understanding and staff members who are there can change anything

I hope that when the time comes, I will be able to afford to live here. This is an assisted living facility and a freestanding memory care facility.

My 88-year-old father lived at Peakview for about one year. Prior to his move, we had toured about…read more5 other assisted living facilities and thought Peakview would be a good choice. From the beginning, we experienced issues where services and ADL care tasks were not being performed by Peakview staff. The tasks detailed in his care plan such as laundry, changing of bed linens, shower assistance, and grooming were simply not being completed. As family members, we were constantly following up to why these services were not being done. Every time we visited my father, we wondered what issue we would have to deal with. When we contacted Peakview management regarding these issues, we were always politely told that they would be addressed. Unfortunately, nothing ever changed. We also experienced issues with Peakview's medical management process and medication chain-of-custody. At one point, we considered contacting the State of Colorado to file a complaint. During his residency, we experienced multiple occasions where medications were lost and/or incorrectly dosed. We also had issues where Peakview didn't perform timely updates to their medication database. Lastly, we had times when my father was being incorrectly billed for medications what were never administered. At one of our final care meetings, I can still remember the Executive Director saying, 'Let us (Peakview) handle the day-to-day activities of daily living, so you can enjoy quality time with your loved one.' Our experience with Peakview was nothing like that. At the end of my father's residency, we were paying close to $9000 a month and Peakview was still not consistently performing tasks documented in his care plan. After our 3rd formal care meeting, we decided it was hopeless and made the difficult decision to move my father. Peakview is a modern facility and some of the staff members are very nice. Don't be fooled. If you want your loved one actually cared for, don't choose Peakview.

My mother was with Peakview for almost 3 years and the beginning was great. within 6 months the level of care dropped drastically. COVID can not be blamed for everything, that is not an acceptable reason. In one year alone there were "3" executive directors, three head nurses and periods where no one was there to supervise the nursing staff. The staffing changed weekly with no consistency of care. I was there visiting and checking on my mother every other day for the time she was a resident. The most basic care needs were not being met, including basic hygiene, weekly housekeeping and trash removal. Complaining fell on deaf ears. Care reviews were made very 6 months without notifying the family and level of care charges increased with ZERO communication till the next month billing. The services being charged for were not being provided and no refunds were every made even when the level of care was reduced. I received an email from the E/R the day she was admitted for the E/R room for her copay charges. That is how I was notified she had been taken to the hospital. Her care was non existent, she ended up in the hospital with a highly contagious intestinal disease because she sat in her own dirty pull ups. Needless to say....She never returned to live there after that. That experience completely ruined her health. I could continue but have said enough......RUN for the hills ! !

This review is based off of the tour of memory care and not assisted living. The sales lady was fairly new to HighPointe. We had a pretty good meeting in a common area by the main entry. I explained my relative was diagnosed in 2011 with Alzheimer's related dementia but was (and still is) in great health otherwise. She explained they have 5 levels of care (the most number of care levels out of any place we toured). The top level being $2500.00 a month in addition to the monthly room/board rate. She said based off of what I told her - my relative would probably need HighPointe's top care level at $2500.00 a month? I thought - what? Number one - you're not a nurse and number two - you haven't even done an assessment?? Finally got to tour memory care. So you have to have someone access the 3rd floor via the elevators both going to and leaving memory care - they will not give family members the code (another story related to that later). Memory care is very nice - entire floor U shaped with central dining and activity areas and a nice outdoor patio. The sales lady did not acknowledge any care givers or residents by name. There are only 4 care givers for 30 residents (a low ratio of care givers). The smallest studios are TINY - maybe 180 sq feet. It was depressing to look at. Yes they have larger studios/rooms but the $ amount per month goes up per square footage. Note to HighPointe family - when building additional new communities - design all memory care suites the same size . Your five room choice pricing with additional five care level of pricing is ridiculous. Have your architect spend a week in a memory care community. I inquired with sales lady L - so how do four care givers know what level of care all 30 residents are needing and paying for? Her reply was "they just do". Really? Care givers don't get paid much no matter where they work - so do they honestly know that Bob is a 3, Pat is a 5, Larry is a 1, etc etc? Ok so doing the math - a mid size studio along with level 5 care (which sales person said my relative would need) would put us at over $7000 a month? So we found a community within a mile of HighPointe; -has all inclusive pricing - no care levels and under $6k a month. -all rooms are exact same size in memory care -there are 4 care givers for twenty residents (much better ratio) Recently met the daughter of a resident who said she did her "due diligence " and had selected HighPointe for her mom who probably is at stage 6 with Alzheimer's. She said her mom became so severely dehydrated due to lack of care at HighPointe that she ended up in the hospital for over a week. She moved her to where we are and is so much happier with the care. Met a Director of Nursing for another community who said he had to do an assessment of a HighPointe resident for his community and he had to wait 15 minutes for elevator access to leave the memory care secured area. HighPointe you are a beautiful community but as previous reviews on Yelp and other websites point out - your memory care structure and set up needs some help. When I visited - three of your four care givers were just standing (one was seated) around. I thought to myself "where are the 25 residents and what are they doing".
