If you were thinking about playing Lincoln Park, right now might be the time! The course was set up for the qualifying matches for the SF City Championship, and the greens are actually puttable! Combined with the nice weather, the course is dry and playing faster than normal. I wish they'd maintain the course like this year round because if the greens were as a good as they were this past weekend, it'd be one of the best deals for public golf in the Bay Area. Plus you can't beat the views on a clear day of the Golden Gate Bridge. We came here this past Sunday without a tee time and were able to get 2some out with minimal wait. Making a tee time in advance is definitely recommended but if you are looking for a last minute way to get out to the course, walking on is possible. Since it was a hot day, we decided to get a power cart which is $50 for two people. It's a cart-path only course, which is a bummer but since it doesn't typically drain well, it makes sense. $50 for a cart is kinda steep considering the carts are standard and don't provide any type of GPS or anything. The course is very hilly, so even with a push cart, it can be a strenuous walk. Like I mentioned in the beginning, if you were thinking about playing Lincoln, now would be a great time since the course is in great condition. read more

Cart path only course and VERY steep cart fee $50, sorry but ill bring my push cart next time if there is one. For $50 the carts didn't even have GPS. The greens were not in great shape. Fungus of some sort which was the same when we played about 7 months before. Super bumpy greens as well so no point in reading it. The ball wash stations were in very bad shape and no soap and murky water. Bring your own towel and water and brush instead. Overall love golf so being out there made up for the above. Living downtown, this was more of a convenience place to play but id rather drive around the bay for better value. read more

If i could give 0 i would. This was a ridiculously terrible course. We had a twilight tee time, once we got there my bf paid and then afterwards we were told there's no carts. My bf asked for a push cart since the course is very up and down, lot of steep hills. They had no more push carts, the group in front of us took the last four. my bf went to the bathroom, saw a bunch of push carts back there and went back and asked the guy if those push carts worked and the worker said we can't have push carts because they had to be back by 6:30. I went and asked what the cut off time was for the carts and was told 4:00 for pacing reasons and because they also had to be back by 6:30. The pacing was so bad for everyone since, again, the course has a lot of steep hills, so everyone was struggling and going much slower. some holes were backed up 20 minutes because you'd have to wait for everyone to walk to their balls. Badly maintained fairway, with a lot of mud around the greens and weeds/flowers in the fairway. no where online when you're booking your tee time will it say that there's no carts after a certain time. Our tee time specified group of 4 WITH CART and yet we were denied a cart (probably because he didn't want to stay to have to clean the carts after). pace of play was definitely ruined for everyone around our time because of that and made the course so unenjoyable. the bathroom were also so poorly maintained, super dirty and gross with an extremely outdated clubhouse. definitely not worth the price, not even the twilight tee time price. read more

I can't believe I've never written a Yelp review about this golf course. Maybe cuz it would have been a thumbs down not a thumbs up. Hubby & I've played here multiple times over the years. Like the city of San Francisco there hills throughout the 18 holes. Up and down, down and up. Today we both golfed fairly decent. The fairways are mostly green but patches of brown overgrown areas with tall blades of grass and daisies. But overall acceptable. Pros: * senior resident rate $24 * great views especially hole 17 - the Golden Gate Bridge * civilized bathroom after hole 5 * clearly marked signs to a particular hole Cons: * cart fee $50 for one rider or $50 for two riders * cart path only unless you've got an handicap placard. This is a short, par 68, tree lined, public golf course in San Francisco with views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Lincoln gets a bad rap because the tees, fairways and greens are not manicured like a country club. Also when it rains the course becomes so soft that your drives will plug and disappear in the fairways. With all that said I still enjoy playing this course that requires very accurate tee shots on some drivable par 4's. It also has 2 back to back par 3's (#16, #17), with views of the Bridge, that measure 230-250 yards, that will decide your final round score. I've only played Lincoln Park in tournaments that actually ban golf carts. Any other time I would play here I would get a cart because this course is hilly and there are no cart paths. read more

This is a tough one, spectacular views of the bay and the north shore, beautiful tree cover and a tight layout makes this spot a good community course with cheap green fees for the neighborhood. Maintenance is questionable at times, my most recent trip allowed a couple hours to get out on the course and it was actually in pretty good condition. The fairways were all a nice playing depth and the greens in surprisingly good shape. Maybe this is not a good beginners course. Narrow fairways and tight elevated greens require a certain level of skill if you're playing, otherwise expect a frustrating round. However, if you like a short tight challenging course that's got spectacular views and cheap green fees this ones worth a visit. I walked nine in about two hours and it wasn't busy, was able to play through a slower group and had a reasonably good round all considered. 3 Stars - a decent community course, would of given 4 stars except for not having a driving range 00594 read more

And one of the worst-maintained tracts I have ever played at. o Cart paths broken and falling apart o 40 year-old golf cart that barely moved o Tee boxes more overgrown than the rough o Greens in horrible condition o Untrained staff in Pro Shop o Clubhouse that ought to be condemned o No restaurant on the premises ...in other words, they suffer from the same bureaucratic neglect as everything else run by the Parks Dept in San Francisco. Which, doesn't bode well considering it's one of the most unwalkable courses i have ever played. Second, the staff is unbelievably rude, from clubhouse members yelling at customers to rangers not knowing the course to help golfers find the next tee box, this was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. Finally, the course was poorly maintained at various points making it such a shame considering it's great location. I highly recommend playing a different course. Where do I begin. This is one of, if not the worst, golf courses I've ever played. The "Clubhouse" is a broken down shack that should probably be condemned. There are only enough carts to accommodate the early golfers. We had an 11:50 tee time and they were cartless. My son and I have cart bags. We decided to proceed and carry our one strap heavy bags. Big mistake. I'm a member of a private club up north and expected that this muni might be a little rough around the edges. My god. The tee boxes were rock solid dirt/mud with wisps of long grass. After you're done hammering in your tee you do as everyone before you has and just leave it there. I didn't bring pliers to yank the tee out. I should have known there was going to be a problem with the tees when I walked up to the tee box and it looked like a giant board with nails half nailed in. The hole designs were bizarre. Short holes where you tee off straight into a hillside. Crush your drive and watch helplessly as your ball bounces up a few times then makes a hard left or right turn and back down the hill. Not to worry though, the fairways haven't seen a mower in forever so the long grass, where there is grass and not dirt, will stop your ball halfway down the steep hill. By the way keep count of the holes you're playing because there is no signage. The hole layouts appear to have been designed by a high schooler who has never played golf. Don't bother bringing your driver. You need to lighten up your bag anyway. A 4, 8, wedge and putter will suffice. Just wrap a rubber and around the 4 clubs you need and save yourself the fatigue of dragging a bag up and down the crazy hills. Course conditions: abysmal. As I mentioned the not so "fairways" have not been groomed. Also on multiple occasions I found my ball next to a piece of trash or empty beer can. There is an equal measure of long grass, dirt and mud. I covered the insane tee boxes. The greens were akin to a target on a shooting range. Apparently no one in SF repairs ball marks. Don't bother lining up your putts because you stand an equal chance of a good roll as making a hole in one on the windmill hole at a putt putt course. At one point I hooked my ball a little left of the fairway. As I climbed the hill to get to my ball I watched as a guy walked over and picked up my ball and pocketed it. I yelled forward hey that's my ball. He ignored me and walked away. There are about 2-3 holes with great views. Once you've found your way around this maze of a layout you find yourself on 18. The only reason you know this is because severe fatigue has set in and off in the distance you can spot the broken down Clubhouse. Hit your 4 iron, hit your 8 iron then walk up to the "green" and pick up your ball or kick it away before stumbling back to your car and making a quick getaway. read more

When you see pictures of this course you are excited to play such a beautiful course. To get right to the point, this course has been poorly maintained and is in bad shape. Greens are hard and rough. Fairways need major TLC. It's clear that with the escalating extreme high prices of fertilizer their budget has been scalped. The encroachment of plants and narrowing of fairways things could be greatly improved with a person keen on opening things up, not to mention if they would fill some of the deep holes around the course. So to answer your question if you are a serious golfer or not you are going to be a lot happier playing somewhere else. Don't waste your time and money. If you are looking for a pristine and well kept course, you may want to look elsewhere. If you are looking for a inexpensive and last minute tee time, then Lincoln is a good place to go. I play here a lot on the weekdays after work, as the twilight fee after 5pm is only $21 before tax (walking rate of course). They don't offer carts in the evening, but I have heard they do for early tee times. The course is very hilly which calls for a lot of blind shots and serves as good exercise. Mostly par 4s with a few par 3s and only one par 5. The greens are very unforgiving which is in part due to the aeration going on currently. The fairways are pretty beat up for the most part, but doesn't bother me too much as you get what you pay for. A positive of Lincoln are the incredible views you get on almost all of the course. Whether you get the view of the city around the back end of the front 9, to one of the best views you can find of the golden gate on hole 17, it really is a great place to relax and enjoy a round of golf. Ultimately, Lincoln is no country club, but it does serve its purpose of bettering your golf game while enjoying some great sights of San Francisco at an affordable rate. read more

Unfortunately, these last two weeks have been a little too hectic for me to post as steadily as I normally do. However, I think I can sneak one in before the weekend to start 2015 right. Even though a late post right after New Year's means less readers, that's okay. Less readers means writing about something those people won't mind missing, which means one less golf related item on my "to write" list! While my friends and I have been checking out different places around the Bay Area, Lincoln Park is one of a handful that we keep coming back to, even if it's not one of the best we've played on. In fact, it's somewhat shabby compared to the courses we've tried in San Jose. The brown grass and barren dirt patches are understandable given the drought, but why are other holes muddy? Plus, the grass is tough and isn't cut with a fringe to transition from fairway to rough. As for the course itself, I won't detail every hole, but I will say it plays pretty fair while still presenting some challenges. There aren't any water hazards, but there are enough traps to keep you on your toes and the rough is THICK (I've lost my fair share of balls). What really makes it interesting though is the elevation. Although there's some side-to-side sloping, it's really with how nearly every has you hitting uphill/downhill (a couple even have "valleys" in between the tee and the cup). Also, while Lincoln is walkable, I'd recommend renting a cart (or having a push cart, at the very least). Between the hills and how spread out the course is (it wraps around the Legion of Honor), you'll get your money's worth. Plus, even if they are a bit worn down and beaten (and apparently scarce, as they ran out once), having a cart will help save your energy for looking for lost shots instead (or is that just me?). Given my complaints and the three stars, why do we come back, you ask? Well, the city isn't exactly overflowing with alternatives, it's convenient, and the green fees are actually pretty fair ($29 with resident card, $42 otherwise). Mostly though, it's still a fun course and the views are awesome. You get a little bit here and there through the first 16 holes, but the 17th? Damn. The Pros: Scenery is spectacular. You get Golden Gate Bridge, beautiful cypress trees, and some cityscape. Lanes are wide. The price is hard to beat. You get a good workout if you walk. Cons: You get what you pay for. It's not run down, but there are areas of improvement for the grounds. It's very hilly. No carts in the afternoon. It feels the customer service can improve. Here's what i have gathered about this course since I am certainly new to golf--the green fees, cart rental, and accessories are inexpensive. Especially once you factor in a SF resident discount when you present your card. The location is picturesque with stunning views of the bay and Golden Gate Bridge (when the fog unveils it of course). The course is well designed and interesting. There are intriguing elements that vex and distract--especially in elevation and hidden pin flags. We arrived at 9am on a Monday morning, so we had plenty of carts to choose from, and were not over-run by golfers coming from behind. I was told that the recent rains had been kind to the course. 4 hours and 11 holes later (I gave up counting strokes :D), I had to pull away for a lunch appointment. This is not likely the course for more advanced players, but it was a great place to cut my teeth. I am grateful for this place and will remember it as my first course. read more

I enjoy playing here once in awhile as it was my home course in high school. It's a short course, only one par 5, and it does have nice views of the ocean and Golden Gate Bridge. It can be a bit challenging considering it's pretty hilly. However, the greens are in need of maintenance. Some had crab grass in spots and others were pretty bumpy. It's fairly priced, but the cart fees are ridiculous. Due to covid they only allow single riders for a $32 cart fee (cart path only course as well). I can understand that rate for two riders, but it should be cut in half for singles. And they're just your generic golf carts- no features. For comparison, a weekend round at Presidio with a cart (GPS, digital scorecard, charging stations, etc.) would cost only $1 more. read more

A great course for the short straight hitter! A par 68, the average player will find this a great course to break 80. Some of the SF City Championship Qualifying rounds take place here. The course has only one par 5 and 5 par 3s, but is tight and hilly with uneven lies, distracting city views, swirling sea breezes, and the random tourist who will walk right in front of you when you are hitting. Both front and back are 34s. The 230 yard 17th hole is the picturesque hole overlooking the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge that many have called the poor man's Pebble Beach No. 18. Just beware of tourists who wander across not realizing they are in harm's way as they are mesmerized by the view. Best opportunities for birdies are 2, 6, 7,10, and 11, so make them count! Because of the proximity to the ocean and the difficult slope which make the course difficult to hold water, leaving dry patches so the ball will roll. There are only 12 bunkers on the course which help for fast play which regularly allows for a four and a half jours read more

Dont wear your best attire or shoes when playing this course. lots of areas that are damp, wet and muddy. tee boxes barely have grass, greens are really small and most fairways are undulated. if youre a beginner, want to work on your shot or lies and/or a tourist wanting to see these views, then this is the course for you. in comparison to a 4-5 star golf course, this is 2 stars at best. the current conditions are very good in comparison to past years but cant hold a candle to poplar creek or presidio. fairly priced, but in my opinion this course is for newbs or advance golfers looking to kill time. read more

I recently got back into golf after a ~15y hiatus and had a blast at this place! Fun course with lots of elevation change, and the views are amazing (golden gate on the 17th, WOW!). There are good city views on other parts of the course too. Price is really accessible ~30-50 depending on the day and if you have a resident card. At least today, they had 3 dollar drafts at the clubhouse (good beer too) and my friend said the breakfast burrito was solid. All that is worth 5 stars, but there are a few things: - fairways are not super well maintained, and the greens looked like they have leprosy. - lots of non golfers walking through the course, especially around the iconic 17th hole. - you'll most likely have to walk. There are a limited number of carts. Still, this is a great public course at a solid price. I can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon. read more

So glad nothing grabbed my ankle in there. Also kinda ghetto there was an old BBQ grill in one of the stalls. Be careful when parking in the parking lot. Our car got broken into, and there was broken glass from other cars nearby too. People probably park there and look for victims. Be aware of your surroundings. I have played this course a few times over the years including for my 40th birthday. It has a lot of (very) faded charm and the views and surroundings are incredible. Some really interesting and fun holes. The course gets 2 stars because (1) some of the conditions are unacceptable, particularly the clubhouse which is an embarrassment. They have also let the greens deteriorate in an appalling way (ball marks turning into holes in the green). And the drainage is so poor that there's a number of places where (even in dry weather) the fairways are basically mud. (2) I took two teen golfers there on a Monday--both have youth on course memberships. Per YOC's app, the course honors the $5 greens fee all day on weekdays (see attached). The pro shop refused to honor that and charged me $15 each. Very frustrating. read more

This is an "anything goes golf-course." The starter is not too strict about timing, you'll play alone or with only your partner most times, and pedestrians walk through the course. The course has some decent holes and the views of the City are really nice. But my favorite thing about this course is this one hole which has a 30 foot fence that tries to separate the course from the unwitting and innocent cars and homes to the right. Sufficed to say, the fence is not always able to contain a stray golf ball and you hear the sound of glass breaking and sometimes a car alarm going off. Sorry about that. Very seldomly do I feel compelled to write a yelp review. But, here we are. This was my first time playing Lincoln Park after passing on it multiple times due to negative reviews and opting to go elsewhere. And I'll definitely be back. It was a typical San Francisco morning: cold, wet, and foggy so the fairways were wet and occasionally muddy but that was to be expected with this time of year and where the course is located. 45 bucks for 18holes + 15 for a push cart. The push carts are not your average, piece of shit pull carts you see everywhere else. They offer really nice Clicgear carts that you can just let roll down the hill freely. The fairways were in pretty decent shape for late fall/winter conditions. The course is challenging with some definite scoring opportunities. The rolling hills and seemingly endless amount of uphill shots seem to take the driver out of your hand and require a good 2nd shot and iron play. The views down the coast lines, of the golden gate and of the San Francisco city skyline are unparalleled. Cons: I deducted one star because it could have definitely used some clearer markings on hole #, next hole locations, and yardages. A couple of traps didn't have rakes, and the clubhouse is just meh. For the price, it's location and playability, id definitely recommend this place. Played Gleneagles last weekend for a similar price and that place is a shit hole. read more
