With a break in the rain, I had to take advantage and scratch that golf itch. Found a last minute tee time available on a Saturday for a single golfer, and took it. This was my first time playing the course in like 8 years, and I forgot how beautiful this course is. The course itself is on the tougher side, but fun for all skill levels. It definitely challenges all different parts of your game. Even with the rain, the course drained pretty well. Bunkers were in a good shape (I'd know, I hit into plenty of them lol) Something I never experienced before in all the years playing golf was that I had to share a cart with a random player. I got paired with a group of 3, so I ended up sharing a cart with the 3rd. Luckily I'm comfortable enough to do this and the guys I played with were fun. It's something to think about if you are a single, that you might have to share a cart with a stranger. If that's not your thing, I'd prolly walk with a push cart. It's a hilly course but it's a good walk. Pace of play is a bit slow (expected on the weekends) so plan for a 5+ hour round. They had some issues with the conditions of the greens, which is much better now than it was back in the fall but at the time of writing this, they are offering a 15% off green fees, which is notated on their booking website. Recently they made a change to their parking lot, where you have to pay ($3/hr or $15/all day). On top of the green fee, you'll have to pay $15 just to park. I get it's to support the Presidio but with the green fees the prices they are I feel like that's plenty of support. Not a deal breaker but definitely carpool if you can do your group can save some cash for drinks at the turn instead. Overall, as I try to play every course in the Bay Area, price aside, is easily one of the most beautiful public courses you'll find in the Bay Area. Definitely will be playing again. read more

She took forever to communicate any information to me on date availability and when I actually got her on the phone, she was rude and dismissive, like she was going me a favor. Weirdly, person in office said there would be no issues finding someone to host our small event, but when I followed up with her, she said it was not possible. Just played here for the first time last weekend (2x). $140 greens fees for a 5.5 hour round is the standard operating procedure. No attempt by the course marshalls to fix this. Greens were in terrible shape. $16 breakfast burrito took 10 minutes to make and wasn't good. On the bright side, the course is stunning. read more

Stay away from this place. It's gone very downhill recently. The greens are horrendous. Dead spots everywhere. It's like putting on fairway length grass on the areas of the green where the grass is actually healthy. $150+ (don't forget your 'reservation fee') is an absolute rip off given the course's current condition. Course needs some TLC. Golf shop has the basics. No restaurant. Beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge from some of the fairways. If they put some money into this course it would be great! I would play it again but it wouldn't be my 1st choice. read more

Presidio golf! What a gorgeous course, lovely staff truly a gem of the city. Free chipping and putting area. SF residents get a discount on 18 holes. You get a small bucket for free to warm up on their range prior to your tee time. Recently I had made a blunder when booking a tee time the Pro Shop employee (Ramsey I think) helped me get in contact with manager (Ben Church) and totally accommodated me when I made an honest mistake. Marshal on the first tee needs to chill. Ruins the experience every time I've played there and probably won't be back after being rudely rushed multiple times. I'd understand if we were late, but we weren't, and he's rushing us to hit, yelling at us from a distance at 2 mins past the time and 2/4 have hit. I had a good time golfing at the Presidio a few weeks back. It was a pretty well kept course and fun to play. Some things I liked: 1. Well kept fairways. They improved their drainage so the course was in good condition. 2. Some really nice views of the city from a few of the holes. Some things I didn't like: 1. Pricey compared to the other nice courses. I dont think its on par with the likes of Half Moon bay or Monterey courses. 2. Parking is horrible. Very limited especially when there are events. 3. Hard to get to unless you live or are already in the city. read more

Today me and my foursome played Presidio golf course in San Francisco and I was very disappointed. The course was in great shape, but the service was horrible. We started our round with a tee time of 7:00am. First group out. Once we arrived on the third hole we were approached by the course assistant marshall who informed us the foursome group behind us had called the pro shop to complain that we were playing too slow. I checked their GPS in the golf cart, and it stated we were only two minutes behind on our pace of play. I discussed this with the assistant marshall that their rules for the day was cart path only, which was not told of this until we got to first tee box, and the marshall had informed us of the rule. I then told him the group behind us (who called) were all walking with push carts, so they would be playing faster, and would have to wait until we finished on the greens because I felt we were on pace. We continued to play the course, but then we were again approached during our round by two more marshalls for a total of four times in the round, which ruined my experience on the course. We finished our round of golf at 11:38am, which is a 4hr and 38minute round of golf. I've been playing golf for over 35 years and have never been hassled by a golf marshall as much as I was today. One of my friends had mentioned, before our round of golf, he wanted to eat at the Presidio GC grill after our round, to have their smoked chicken wings, so I agreed. We ordered the smoked wings, Kobi beef burgers and drinks. As we were eating, we noticed there was a large wedding in preparation, and they were setting up the tables. As we ate, I notice a rodent/rat walking around the tables where guest of the wedding will soon be gathering and eating. I think this course should focus more on their rodent pest issues instead of attempting to harass a group of golfers who may have been playing a few minutes slow. Maybe allow golfers with golf carts to enter the fairways at 90 degrees if you wish to speed up play. I will never return to this course again!! Tony read more

It has been almost 20 years since I last played herse at Presidio. The time I played the course was not in the best of conditions with the fairways having vines with little white flowers growing in the middle. WIth the price I paid for the tee time I was very disappointed. Last Saturday I joined some friends to play a round. The green fee was $120 with a cart for non-SF residents. I looked up the website and discovered that there was no walking rate on weekends which is odd. Anyway we teed off right on time and the fairways this time was pretty nice. The grass also seemed very thin at many spots. The rough was very deep and it seemed it was not mowed for weeks. The ground was also quite moist indicating a significant watering schedule since the last rain was more than a month ago. The greens were the silver lining to the course as they tracked pure. Most of the fairways are tough to play as they lean left or right or uphill or downhill. It makes for a good challenge however creating a light rough area will help with play. I was reading some of the comments regarding slow play and I was behind a foursome which caused us to wait at almost every shot (tee box to fairway). Each time we waited an average of 4 minutes. It was very frustrating and it took us 4 hours and 35 minutes for the round. On the 18th hole, I drove from the black tee when I noted both golf cards were at least 350 yards away. As I looked up at my shot, I noticed one cart driving back about 50 to 75 yards. Fortunately my ball went to the center of the fairway and they drove into the rough area on the right. The group behind us was also affected by the slow play. Bottom line, I probably will visit again but I would prefer Harding Park for a similar price with better quality course. read more

I had such a fun time here! We came on a Sunday at around 2pm. We rented the gear ($10) and got 100 balls $15) at the main shop, which is connected to the Presidio Cafe. You do need to leave a credit card with the shop for renting the equipment. The front side of the driving range was packed, but the back end still had about four openings. Also once the kids golf school lesson was over, more stalls opened up. Woods could be used in the front part, but more shade and relaxing in the back. By the way, there is also a putting area in the front near the shop! We will definitely be back and perhaps take some lessons! read more

For the price $100 for SF Bay Area residents it's just ok. The last time I played here it was private cc over 25 years ago. Then it was plush and the grounds were manicured to a higher standard. Some holes reminded me of Tilden park in east bay and Lincoln Park, the 9 hole also in SF. Quite hilly and not as easily walkable. It was a typical blustery day in SF with the fog so deep the sun barely peaked out, which helped keep it cold darn near frigid when the wind kicked up. Hole 17 and 18 was like playing on the North Pole so cold my toes were numb. My golf partner wore hoodie under a down vest and was still cold. Over all a pleasure to play in SF boundaries but if you are gonna pay a hundi, I'd play Harding Park. Similar temperatures and still in SF but much better maintained. read more

This review is only on the driving range because I have not yet played the course. First of all, the drive up to the course is so fun and pretty. I love how it's up in the trees. There are two parking lots. One next to the range/chipping greens and one next to the club house, so just make sure you go to the right one depending on where you want to go! My friend and I unknowingly parked in the lot next to the clubhouse, but it was only about a 2-3 minute walk to the range. The range is huge. Plenty of spots. The mats were in good condition and they also had rubber tees in them! Very convenient. I went here at sunset and it was absolutely beautiful to watch the sun go down as I was practicing. Definitely will be coming to this range more often! read more

I have to be honest, this course is fun, it's in a pretty location and usually in reasonable shape, but it is not anywhere near $130 golf course. It's slow on the weekend, like 5.5 hours slow, and a eye popping $70 to play even twilight where you have no chance to play 18 holes. 5:50 for $67 give me a break. The range is a disaster, people waiting all the time, 3 deep drinking beers and being obnoxious, one big hill where you cant even judge the balls distance. I've seen three separate times people down on the far end get hit by balls from others shanks, one woman directly in the head an no even owned up to it. It's a real shame too because it use to be an affordable course before COVID with a nice club for regulars to get reasonable rates and keep public golf strong in Sf. Just go buy an SF card and play Harding, go play any number of better and cheaper east bay courses or peninsula courses, fuck go to Gleneagles or even Lincoln. This is why golfs popularity ebbs and flows so dramatically, courses gouge when golf is hot, and have no long term view of supporting the community or the game. I'm sure they say they charge a "market rate" but give it a few years and it will be empty again, hurting and begging people to come play. My first time at the driving range was pretty awesome. I came here with a few friends who already had golf equipment. But don't fret if you don't have anything ready. You can rent the equipment! Check their site for most updated prices. Also, you definitely want to buy their basket of balls because if you bring your own, you're never seeing them again. Came on a Saturday around noon and there was a good amount of people. Try to secure a spot before getting the balls in case there's no space. At the end of the area, I believe you can't use drivers so just watch for the red areas. There's a guy that drives around to pick up the balls from time to time. I was really impressed at the tee mat. You buy the balls and then dump it into this area under the mat. Once the ball is off the tee, it will automatically place a ball on the tee. So cool. You can also adjust the height of the tee to your liking. Pretty high tech stuff! I don't golf at all but if I wanted to, this is a great place. read more

This review is based on my father and mother. My father is semi-pro golfer, and he's been to many golf courses in the world. He was very disappointed with this place because of following reason. My parents booked a tee time only for 2 golfers with cart. When they arrived at the golf course, they were "asked" to play with 2 other strangers. These 2 strangers also didn't know each other. I've played here a couple hundred times having grown up a couple blocks away and if I recall correctly have birdied every hole but the current #12. Have played here with Generals, nuns, Arnold Palmer and even Cheech Marin and Don Johnson (yes, Tin Cup). The only decent outdoor public golf range available in San Francisco (Harding has a small one), Presidio has some of the best facilities you will find for a great day of golf. A full bar at the 19th hole, a driving range, restaurant and cafe, pro shop and professional golf instruction make the Presidio a great destination. Do you know that the Presidio is the oldest if not one of the oldest golf courses west of the Mississippi? This used to be a private course for most of the officers. As a kid I was allowed to walk on and caddy for some of the officers (and learn dirty jokes). Today the course is open to the public although reservations are highly recommended several weeks in advance especially on weekends. With San Francisco weather, the course is open year round and also serves as a great little place to get a drink at night. Course weather can vary and is rarely shorts weather. The range is from 50 - 80 degrees with wind. It is hilly, so carts are highly recommended to keep play moving. The course itself sets up nicely. The front and back nines are switched from the original format to accommodate the new club house when you finish the round. DO NOT mistake the old clubhouse for the pro shop where you check in. The old clubhouse belongs to the Presidio Golf CLUB, not the Presidio Golf COURSE. The only setback of this revised layout is that you get a short dogleg right for a 1st hole rather than the majestic par 5 that is now the 10th. As the course sits along the bay, the humidity is high and the winds are pretty blustery out of the west. If you are a traditional high ball hitter, you might employ more of a bump and run game like you would on a links course in Northern Europe. The greens tend to be slower because of all the moisture from the area. The course also lays out well for right-handers who like to move the ball from left to right. Only the 11th hole slightly favors those who play a draw. There are snack carts on the course, but you will find a great snack shack and bathroom at the 4th, 11th and 16th holes for your convenience. There is an ATM in the clubhouse should you lose your shirt to your friends while gambling on the course. If taking the bus. Take the 1 California to Arguello Blvd and walk up the hill north for 4 blocks. read more

My uncle brought me here to let me try my hand at golf. So, we bought a basket of balls and set up at the driving range. Good thing we arrived early as the tee off mats were filling rapidly as we settled down. After a quick lesson of fundamentals, I started driving balls downrange... Well, not really. That was what I wanted to do. Instead, I smacked the green mat, clopped at the ball with a flourish as the ball skitttered to the side...fail. Smacked grounders downhill. I consoled myself that I did not hit any air balls, and no animals were harmed during my time at the tee--at least none that I know of. I was also especially careful not to smack a ball at the dude driving the thinggy that sucks up the balls from the range. For inspiration, I tried to visualize some hushed sports narrator commenting my next shot..."he picks the driver, and lines it up with the ball. Settling into the zone now. Wait...what is he doing? His feet are out of position, oh dear, look at his grip--that won't do... He's going for it. And nooooo--he forced the swing and futzed it. Let's revoke his membership." No that's no help... After a basket ($10 for 70 balls) and a half of about 100 balls, I managed to connect cleanly with maybe just 10 swings. The clean zing of the club striking the ball in the sweet spot was very satisfying. But I still had no idea what made those shots from the ones that failed. The ball dispenser uses range cards or cash, and requires exact change. The baskets and equipment at the driving range was in great condition. One minor complaint is that there were not enough tees for all the mats. In addition, a few of the tees were cut too tall. Next, we spent about 15 minutes on the putting green. Did better there thanks to putt putt golf courses. So, after our session, I asked my uncle about pro-lessons. He proceeded to tell me that every golf pro he has hired from around the world, at various costs per hour, have never agreed on the same techniques past some very basic principles. Ergo, I have concluded that golf is probably a sport for delusional masochists. The grounds were stately and the course eye candy. The clubhouse for the public had very clean restrooms, a great pro-shop and a nice restaurant albeit pricey. The crowd there seemed totally oblivious that I was a noob. I was grateful. read more

It was my Birthday gift from a friend to play there this past Tuesday. We arrived knowing the greens had been punched out which was a bummer but okay. We arrived early to practice only to find out the driving range was closed (the green fees included a bucket of balls...can't take advantage of that). For us the topper was we were also advised it was cart path only and my friend is in his 80's and mostly in good shape but this course is hilly and not easy to walk and as a consequence we got flagged from the Marshal for slow play...cart path only = slow play. How do golf courses justify charging the same high green fees for these conditions? We we're lucky the weather was nice and we managed to make the best of the day but I will not go back again. read more

Presidio is one of my favorite courses to play in the Bay Area. It's probably the best public course in the city behind Harding. I last played here the week of July 4th and it was in excellent shape. The tee boxes, fairways, greens are beautiful, as is the course itself. It is very reasonably priced ($75 weekday rate w/ cart, $85 weekend rate w/ cart). Green fees also include range balls before your tee time. I have to rave about the carts. The seats are extremely comfortable, it has GPS telling you how far to the green, hole, and back of the green, USB port, bluetooth, and electronic scorecard. You can also order food from the cafe and they'll deliver it to you wherever you are on the course. That's a nice touch. Can't wait to play here again. read more
