Found this place by chance during a recent trip to the coast to escape the heat. It's been a while since I've hit any golf balls, but I figured, why the heck not? They even provide loaner clubs if you need them, and I ended up having so much fun! The property looks to be family-run and is surrounded by farmland, offering breathtaking views of the hills, ocean, and fields. They have chickens roaming around and a rooster crowing. I even saw a big Great Blue Heron stalking around the green; the older gentleman's wife mentioned his name is Brian and that he "comes to work" at the same time every day to help with gopher control! They also have a great putting green that costs $5 to use, which goes directly toward grass upkeep. I usually like to keep cash on hand to be prepared for things like that, but if you forget yours, they have a third-party ATM on-site. Everyone here is so nice and easygoing. I honestly can't believe a hidden gem like this still exists without being snatched up by developers. Hopefully, it stays exactly as it is, and the state doesn't step in to force more housing development like they are doing everywhere else. Just a solid place to warm up. Nothing about this place is overly nice but what more do you need? Balls are obviously plucked from local courses as youll have a basically new Tp5 and a broken strata in the same bucket of balls. Mats are in rough shape but to be expected. If those were replaced this place would be a 5/5 for me. Also this place is cash only. And the owner usually isn't around to give change. read more

Tucked away by the ocean and near the state park in Half Moon Bay, it's a beautiful setting and easy to get to. The staff is very nice, and prices are fair- $15 for 100 balls. They also charge for the putting area, which honestly isn't bad. That said, the mats are pretty worn down and the balls are all mismatched. It's also cash only. If they upgraded the mats, this place would be a lot better. I'll be back for the convenience. read more

I love coming to this driving range! It's 3 minutes away from the beach, it has beautiful farm animals on the property, the owners are kind and personable and it's relatively peaceful. The views are stunning. There's equipment there that you can use or just bring your own. We went there on a holiday and they let us play! I really enjoy spending my time here. I drove down to Half Moon Bay to play a round of golf @ HMB Ocean Course. I realized a day before they didn't have a range and was searching for something to help combat the 2 hour drive south to warm up. I got a small bucket and searched for a mat to hit off of that wasn't in horrible condition (and one that actually had a rubber tee). The balls were pretty much old and worn. The place isn't anything special, but at least it's there. I was appreciative for that. In all honesty, the warm up didn't help. HMB Ocean kicked my backside. read more

I first noticed this place a few years back when I was hiking down the coast just down the street. I thought then that it was a strange place for a driving range. But that is by no means a bad thing, just not what most city folk are used to seeing. It appears this family run driving range may have turned concepts over the years. It looks like farmland much like what you'd see up and down this stretch of coast, very agricultural. But they took a small plot of land, that I'm sure may have been vegetables at one point, and just turned it into a landing area for flying golf balls, used for practicing. All balls are dispensed through a machine and takes cash. If you need change, I think you can get it through the little shop that looks like a module home. I believe I paid $10 for 60 balls, which is real close to what I pay closer to home. Things I liked: -Not as packed and crowded as most Bay Area driving ranges. -Great yardage markers all over. Better than most in my area. Got me to dial in some shots. -Although not large, you can practice a bit short game here too. Small chipping and putting area. -Resident dog lounging around really seals the deal on putting you in a rural setting. -The balls they dispense are actually real balls mixed up. Not your average generic beat up range balls. Never seen that before. -Super close to the ocean. Like within a 4 minute walk, you could be touching the Pacific Ocean. So didn't come all the way to Half Moon Bay just to do this. I was already doing a day trip here and I had my golf bag in my car already. Had time to kill before the lunch hour, and this was a relaxing yet productive way to kill an hour. I can do this again, no problemo. read more

Really cool driving range that only the locals know about- as we all know, if you plan on playing the resort there is no range so this place is the best option. Decent range with ok mats and balls. Better than hitting into a net or nothing at all. The owner is quite nice and very accommodating. read more

Went here to warm up before my round at the half moon bay ocean course. Got a bucket of about 100 golf balls (not really range balls, just kinda a mish mash of random golf balls). The mats were mats and slid around pretty easily. Wouldn't recommend at all before golfing at half moon bay but at least it's there. read more

Hometown driving range on old farmland that makes for a great practice space! Ball machine is cash only, but they have an ATM inside, as well as bathroom. $15 gets you 100 balls, and smaller units than that too. Perfect for beginners that don't want the pressure of looking like you know what you're doing! They also had used clubs for sale, soda/drink vending machine, and a few chairs thoughout the bays. Came here to teach a beginner how to swing a golf club (said beginner is now my wife). Make sure you get a good sense of the directions before you come here- it'll feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. Also make sure you take the time to bring cash, as the place is right next to a walking distance farmer's market that's not too big but very cozy and family-friendly. As to the driving range, about $10 will get you everything you need for 1 person and all that's left is just you and the open sky with that special someone you wanted to show off to. Dope place. I was in the area and I so happened to have a bunch of clubs in my car. There's a machine that dispenses the golf balls. They have 3 options. I went with the middle one which was like 80 balls for 8 bucks.. can't beat that!! I would of went another round but I was off my break. What a gem hidden in HMB. The owner is friendly and there were lots of spots available to socially distance from the other golfers. They have equipment to use as well, but some of them are a bit too worn. Be sure to practice at the putting/chipping green before heading to the range. Prices are ridiculously inexpensive. $2 per person for the green. 100 ball bucket for $10, or 60 for $6 bucket. Just be a little cautious when you order balls at the vending machine... it doesn't make change. Can't wait to visit again. read more

Neither of the Half Moon Bay Golf Links courses at the Ritz-Carlton have driving ranges. So, if you are planning on warming up for a round there, this is the only place in town where you can do so. Most people will question why I would give this place 4 stars instead of 2 or 3. Fair enough. The mats are worn, you hit to an old, torn up field and the balls have definitely seen better days. However, I really like the atmosphere here. The owner, Carol, is absolutely wonderful, the price for a bucket of balls is a steal, and there is a very nice dog wandering around to give you advice should you need it. If you don't like hitting off mats, you can pay a couple extra bucks to hit off the grass area at the end of the range. Last time I was there the gentleman who helps run the range gave me so many free balls, I had to quit before I could hit all of them. Like the name says, you can even see the ocean from the tees. There are simply very few businesses out there anymore that take pride in providing excellent customer service in a pleasant atmosphere. This place is one of the last holdouts and deserves to be recognized for it. read more

Wanted to hit some balls before my early round at HMB Links because they don't have a range but it says here they don't open till 8, I drove by anyways at 740 and the gate was open with a "yes we are open" sign out front. I drove up bought my bucket of balls went out and started hacking away. Never saw anyone in the trailer our on the grounds but the ball machine was operational and filled with balls so lucky me. Depending on how many balls you want to hit bring 5's and 1's because machine only takes exact change. read more

There's nothing fancy about this place -- no clubhouse or cafe, just a double-wide trailer serving as the main office with a ball dispenser and drink machine outside. But what it doesn't have in terms of facilities is more than made up for by its low-key, unpretentious charm. It's like a comfortable old shoe. And the beach is just a couple blocks away. If you are looking to hit golf balls in Half Moon Bay, this is it, there are no other driving ranges but thankfully this is a good one. Unless you are Tiger Woods, you won't be able to reach the back fence and the farms that are all around back for a terrific, quiet atmosphere. And it is really ocean view as the ocean is right next to it. I found it totally by accident while driving to the beach with my nephew and boy am I glad that I did. He loves golf and had a great time hammering out a bucket. The prices are really cheap, it wasn't crowded at all. Totally low-key with the staff and owners. I opened the doors of my car and played Pink Floyd while we hit balls. No one jumped us for doing it. All good. This range isn't hi-class, the tees and mats could use an upgrade, but it doesn't make itself out to be anything other than what it is a local establishment servicing local golfers, not drive in Ritz Carlton patrons. I was really excited about my find and if I ever need to return to Half Moon Bay and have my clubs in the trunk, this will be the first place I will go. read more

Basic driving range, not bad, but not great. Three options for range buckets: $6 for 60 balls, $8 for 80 balls, $10 for 100 balls. Exact change, the machine doesn't give change, not sure about the person in the office. Cash only and no ATM on site. Minimal amenities, didn't see the option to buy drinks or food. There is an option to hit on "grass" which is mown mixed grass and weeds. This costs an extra $2. The putting and chipping green across the parking lot is also an extra $2. This was a fun and totally random find! The boyfriend and I were biking and saw this place. We stopped to see what it was about and were a bit confused to how chill the place is. We decided to come back after we were done biking to try it out. The only experience I have with golfing has been with mini golfing, so I didn't know what to expect. When we came, actually a worker was coming to shut the gates. But he was super friendly and said he'd let us play and that he'd come back later to close up! All you had to do was pay for the golf balls. There's a vending machine by the side of the building where you get them. $6 for 60 golf balls, $8 for 80 and $10 for 100. Since this was our first attempt at golfing, we just got/shared 60 balls. They have golf clubs there for you to borrow, just sitting there on the porch, so you can take whichever ones you want and have at it! They even had clubs for lefties, like me! So that was nice (I wasn't even thinking about that being an issue!). Granted the clubs were kind of old and dirty, but I'm not complaining, since they were free for usage :) Great location by the ocean. It happened to be a very windy and a bit dark by the time we started, but it was still fun. I like that it's well kept (for what it is), it's cheap, great location, and there are lots of space for you (and friends) to go golfing together. Hey - it's cheaper than mini golfing! I showed up on a Saturday morning with $6 and some old clubs that my grandpa let me borrow. Didn't have a glove, so I walked into the trailer and asked to buy one. The lady working there was really nice and let me borrow a glove that someone had left -- that just made my day. My bf has been golfing since he was 7. Me? I enjoy miniature golfing from time to time. It was the bf's birthday wknd and since he had never been to HMB, we decided to make a day trip out there. We WERE heading to the state beach but it costs 10.00 to park there...so we were heading back looking for a place to park in the neighborhoods near by and decided to stop into the driving range to check it out. We ended up getting 60 balls to play with and it was free to use the golf clubs that were available. The lady who worked inside was super nice and according to my bf I did pretty well for my first time! also, we ended up leaving the car there and walking to the state beach which is literally a hop, skip and jump away. 6.00 for parking and golfing for two! What? I had to PAY for a rubber golf tee at the range because they were OUT of the LOANERS? The range was fine and I enjoyed knocking the heck out of the balls. It's not the nicest, not that well kept, and the golf tee thing was 'bush league'. It is the only game in town though, so I'll deal with it. Place is dope. Before a round at the Ritz, great chipping and grass driving range. Get a all on the neighboring coastal trail in beforehand.

Went to the range for the second time to practice chipping and putting. It's a great range with ocean view, pretty much free unlimited chipping and putting (you pay $2.00 for all day), very reasonable prices for a bucket of balls too and they have grass areas as well for an extra couple of bucks. There is nothing fancy about the place, but it has that cool coastal feel, simpler than more expensive, profit driven ranges. I think it might be family run and everybody is very nice and helpful. And they teach lessons too! read more

You cant get a better deal for golf balls. The service is friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is beautiful, and the chipping area is awesome. Its the perfect little get away. There open until the sun goes down, so my favorite time to practice is at sunset. Therefore, I can watch the beautiful beach sunset as I'm hitting my balls into the tinted red sky. I wouldn't change anything about it. Its simple, fun, and at a great price. Plus, the beach is only a stroll down the road. Bottom line, a great place to have fun and practice your game. read more
