We really enjoyed this 9 hole par 3 Muni. Greens were in great shape. Signage to get you to the next hole could have been better. The staff was very friendly and welcoming even gave us bar and restaurant recommendations. They have plenty of golf clubs for you to rent with a pull cart if you like. Finally made it back to play the 9 hole course and it was definitely a fun time. The course is all shorter-ish par 3s so for me I only needed to bring a pitching wedges, wedges, and a putter to get through the course. Some of the holes are definitely challenging. The greens are have some many levels to it, so it takes a couple times playing the course to get used to it. For the winter, they have mats that you tee off from, but I heard they are going back to traditional tee boxes in a couple weeks. To play it's $23/25 if you have a SF resident card, $50 for non-residents. I think for the price $50 is a bit steep for a par 3 course, when you can play lincoln or sharp park for slightly more and you get double the holes and get to play every club in your bag. Totally worth it for practice if you get the resident rate though. Tee times are all done online and is strongly recommended. When you book online, make sure you confirm multiple times before closing the screen and receive an email confirmation. Trust me, I made that mistake lol read more

Hubby & I played golf today. Tee time 9:48am. Spaced 12 minutes out I was informed. We decided on a later tee time thinking we'd avoid folks getting in a game prior to going to work. Well, we played with two guys who were going to work afterwards. They were friendly. All was good. It was a beautiful morning. The sun was out. We could see the Pacific Ocean from atop hole 5. We finished in 90 minutes. Then hubby & I decided we'd eat onsite as they've got a grill and beer on tap. We wanted to order the burger dog made famous at the Olympic Club. There's indoor and outdoor seating. We ate in as I'd forgotten my sunglasses in the car. The last time I had a burger dog was at the food concession at Chase Center. This one as just as good. Served on a soft hot dog bun. And dressed with mustard, ketchup, chopped onions, relish, and pickles. We chose a canned beer rather than the draft. Then I wanted something sweet. Bought a chocolate chip cookie made from Butterlove bakery on Balboa St nearby. It was loaded with chocolate chips. A very crisp cookie. Nice. A perfect finish to a perfect outing at a much improved golf course. read more

Golfed here last Thursday. Typical overcast that Sunset is known for. But a fantastic day for golf on a stunning course in great shape. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I was visiting from Boston and was very impressed with the conditions of the course and the layout. Definitely the best bang for the buck on a par three. Can't wait to come back! Disappointing because of an interaction with an employee who seemed really unhappy to be there with his stale, negative attitude/vibe. It changed the energy of the roun. I heard this was newly rennovated and wanted to check it out myself. I started golfing 2 years ago and only told myself I would play SF courses when I have a decent swing and iron game. This course was beautiful. Hawks overhead and views of the city and ocean on the horizon. Well maintained and amazing greens. Hawks also hunting gophers was a sight to see while teeing off. The course play itself was really fun. Plenty of fun shots to take but beware of how challenging the putting greens are. Had plenty of bogeys from my three putts, but that's what makes it fun! Got paired with two great locals of SF like myself and they are the best reason why I love folks who play golf. They emphatized me being new to playing and gave me plenty of tips about the round and course etiquette and play. Super thankful for that. The pro shop was very clean and modern. You can find awesome parts 3 Sunday Golf bags here with logo of the course on it too. Pretty neat. I tried the hotdog on the menu and everyone on the staff was so hospitable and professional I see why many players hang there before and after a round. Got myself a commemorative GGP Golf Course Hat for my first time playing here. Will be back again with my normal playing buddies! read more

I really enjoy this course. I'm a beginner golfer, live in San Francisco, and started playing when this course closed for renovation so I was excited when it finally opened up. I appreciate it as a well kept par 3, there aren't many! The course itself is short, I think the longest hole is under 160 and most of the holes are around 120, but the putting is tough! Lots of slope. Not flat at all so you'll have to bring your A game and where you land on the green really matters. My favorite holes are 5 and 6. One goes down hill and the other up hill coming back up. 2 and 3 are awesome too. The surrounding trees become more prominent there and it feels like you're not in a city all of a sudden but tucked away somewhere in the woods playing golf. It's perfect. I also appreciate the short game area here. There's one for chipping and another for putting and are relatively not busy, at least in the morning. My only advice, book early, it's hard to get a tee time as it's really popular. And if you're an intermediate golfer and above, get an early tee time as the pace of play can be slower later in the day. Shout out to the staff , super nice. They answered all my questions. Gave a good brewery recommendation too. Only feedback I have, is I wish they had earlier tee times but not a big deal. read more

My son and I went here for our first father/son outing on a Saturday with no tee time, on the day of a tournament. So dumb. But the staff was super nice and we hit the range and chipping green and had lunch and to our surprise they got us in with a young couple at noon. We had a great day. The course is in good shape if you don't mind teeing of a mat every hole. Fun challenging beginner par3. Takes an hour and a half at most. read more

Golf courses bother me. Gold coasts can too. I have a can-do attitude when it comes to accepting my limitations, maybe you should too. I worked with a middle-aged man named Mel for almost a year on my swing. It only got worse. I don't blame Mel or his slicked-back hair. I blame my mind, which is my worst enemy on a golf course. In 2020, I got to see it in a different light. Have you ever wandered through a neighborhood around the holidays to look at the lights? It felt like that. But it was a closed golf course. And the fairways became promenades, and the logs became benches. Children walked and tried to ignore one another, but their parents forced them into greetings. Who knew when they'd be in class together again? I read a bad novel waiting for my tee partner. His party arrived long after our tee time. I also avoided a log years later during a drive. I've never had a problem with fades, perhaps because I don't hit the ball hard enough. And yes, I do address it correctly. The grass is never greener. Or when it is, it's too tall. The bunkers could use more love and care, and the rakes are falling apart. It's a wonder more people and bison don't fall victim to randomly hit golf balls. read more

Otherwise they will force you to rent their terrible bag that doesn't even include a driver :) Ridiculous. Also after we finished the first hole within 15min, some guy that worked there came and said we needed to finish within 10. Overrated -- the course is in good condition but only because it's been recently renovated. I would recommend going to Fleming 9 course over at TPC Harding -- it's $31 or $43 (for non residents). The staff is rude and act like the course is it's Augusta National. read more

This golf course is in immaculate shape. I played here today for the first time since the course reopened. It is night and day from the last time I played. The fairway and greens are pristine. The staff were great also. They were courteous and professional. Seems like most golf courses I go to, I am greeted with a grumpy person that seems to hate their jobs. I got to the golf course early. The staff told me there is a nice putting green and also a chipping area that have sleeves of ball I can use and I'll be called when I am up. This is a great 9 hole to hone in your iron game. The greens are extremely tough. I felt that there were no flat spots and every shot needs a good geometric calculation. The only issue I have was how hard it was to get a tee time. I guess when there is a nice up kept course for a good resident price, everyone is trying to get a tee time. read more

I really like this golf course, it's a fun and fast play that's entrenched in the iconic Golden Gate Park. What's not to love? Although my friend had to sell me a bit on going to Golden Gate at 7:30 in the morning, it was definitely a good idea. With relatively few people out on the course, it was nice being able to tee off on our own and move at our own pace (typically, you get grouped in fours with strangers). "Dude, I told you it was worth it waking up this early. Not nearly as busy, and no one hanging around waiting for us to finish." "And no one watching as we hack up the course?" "...and that." Tucked away in a corner of Golden Gate Park (who knew?), the course is a par-3, nine hole with distances ranging from about 110 yards to about 195. While having drivers might be handy, irons are more than sufficient (golf bags are required on the course though). After all, a good swing with accuracy would likely serve you better than just trying to hammer the ball. "Mike, did you see where your shot went?" "Off to the right by the tree line. Yours?" "I think it went through to the other side..." "Nice." While the quality of the course clearly falls short, Golden Gate is great for anyone just starting out since most of the other people out there are beginners as well. They have a driving "range" (a half dozen stalls with netting to hit into) where they run golf lessons, along with a putting green to practice on. At the clubhouse, they have the usual array of golf supplies (balls, gloves, tees, markers, etc.) as well as a BBQ/grill with some outdoor seating. I loved this place at first. Pros about the course: relatively easy for beginners like me, nicely mainatined, Romeo, John are amazing with their customer skills, Joe is pretty good too. Cons-below. I was very loyal to Golden Gate Golf Park, you would find me there three days in a row and every weekend in a period of two months, never missed an appointment. One day got stuck at work and forgot to cancel my reservation, I booked another one just to make sure I got a spot. Like many days before I made it to the course eventually on that day. The manager decided my loyalty was not enough and seeing me there every week. Without notice or word I was blocked from making online reservations. All I got was a look of annoyance when I brought it up. My loyalty was not enough. As a side note you could've called or simply said something when I came in and give me a warning, instead you decided to block me altogether with no other options. I imagine business at your course must be extremely profitable in order to dismiss your customers so carelessly. Recommendations: If you are someone who prefers to play alone in order to improve your game go to Harding or Lincoln Park, if customer skills and loyalty are important there are many other golf clubs around that will value that. I may be back to GGGP for now even if more $$ I prefer other golf courses after the bitter taste Golden Gate Golf Course left in my mouth. Beware of belligerent control freak manager! Here's the thing. This review isn't for the course, it's for the manager. First time golfing at this city course - normally golf at Los Feliz Par 3 in LA (which has zero pretention). This place, and particularly its manager, it's nothing but pretentious. We arrived before our 3pm (twilight time) but were turned away because we weren't allowed to rent clubs and only had one bag and set with us. Not only was there no consideration or flexibility for our situation, the manager was verbally quite angry and difficult to deal with. Listen, I get that we need to have rules for this, it's important. But when you're hosting your "club house" in a construction trailer in a city based golf course. Let's see at the golf driving range the price is amazing, I only pay $6 for the 115 golf ball & just to hit at the golf driving range. There's a Free putting area & But, NO short game area for chipping in golf. BUMMER!!! However, Good news is I get to use my S.F City golf card for 15% discount & I only pay $15 dollar & just to play 9-holes golf course & it's was very enjoyable & fun. Plus, the original price for 9-holes golf course is $40 dollar. Yikes!!! I'm very lucky, I used my S.F City golf card & it's a great deal & I love it!!! Employee helping out was cool regardless of being a Giants fan.. this a great daily par 3 to play at and the only knock is the practice/driving range.. if this was a longer range for practice this would be tops. Played this course in the early afternoon one day with rental clubs and a couple of beers and it was fine. A couple of the greens need some loving, but for $19 it's hard to beat! It's a fun little course with a low cost and a friendly staff. I get out here every once in a while when I want to work on my short game or just get a quick round in. On a quiet day I get get 9 holes done in slightly over an hour. It is a great place for kids - which is unfortunately one of the problems. It is great to see a father out there with his 6 year old son - unless they are in front of you. Most people will let me play through so it's not much of an issue - unless the group in front of them is just like that one. The other day I got through in 1:15, but had 2 holes where the flagstick was not in the cup thanks to the 3 teenage boys a couple holes in front of me. I caught them and played though quickly. Snack bar bar serves hot dogs and beer - Siera Navada Torpedo is in the cooler along with some other tasty options. read more

(seriously, I rather just get konked without knowing, then at least I won't be looking up for it and take one in the eye.) With that said, I like this course because it's incredibly laid back, which is the way it's supposed to be, especially if you want to get beginners excited about the game. With that said, on top of the other things I've said, I'd also like to say that I've been playing for over 20 years, but still enjoy this beginners course because I set my expectations appropriately (hint, hint). Definitely get a resident card from City Hall if you live in the city and plan to play more than 10x a year. The cards are only $42, but save you at least that much if you just play one round at Harding! Also, once you've gotten tired of this course and want to move on to something a little more challenging, Fleming and Gleneagles/Mclaren are also great 9-holers in the area . . . FORE! read more

GGPGC is where I pretty much learned to play. It's fantastic but you need to understand it. This is your basic only-casually-maintained MUNI par 3 course. But there's really immense charm to that. Some people want it to be nicer--well go to Lincoln or Fleming then guys, come on. This place has charm and its own personality--and it's the least intimidating place I've ever golfed at. Oh did I mention it's insanely cheap with a resident card? And then there's Bruce. He's not "a colossal prick" like some people have said. He's just got his own way of doing things which sometimes isn't what you'd expect. I'll always love this place--especially the last four holes. read more

Just inside 47th and Fulton on the north side of the park, behind the archery field, is a perfect Come Along golfer 9-hole course. I am a Come Along golfer- I'll come along if someone wants to play but wouldn't go by myself. It's first come first serve, no frills, super casual. You won't need a collared shirt and plaid get-up here. Pay inside, get your scorecard and head to hole #1. It ain't super manicured but the greens are pretty nice for $19 (f-sun rate) per person. I saw signs for cart rentals but no one was using them and it's really not necessary. It's a fun and pretty quick course (all Par 3 holes, longest is 193 yds), but you may get held up trying to find the next hole. They're not marked. I'm not sure if I completed the holes in the right order, but I did hit 9 different ones. If you get hungry, I found some edible mushrooms under a tree by the last (?) hole. As I was walking by. I mean honestly, how much time do you REALLY have to move after someone yells "FORE!" on a short course. Not much. Just ask the guy next to me that got the &%$# knocked out of him.
