First time waxing experience and my friend and I were NERVOUS! I can't tell you the horror stories you read about when looking up what to expect. We went with Groupon's and made our appointments hoping for the best & not too much pain. When I tell you the women were so so kind and sweet that I've gone back on numerous occasions, you can't imagine how at ease we felt. They explained everything & gave warnings so we knew what to expect. They're a little out of the way for me now, but I've been a repeat customer even so. Still excellent, efficient service. Very easy to make appointment, clean and courteous service. Everything that you would want in a waxing studio. Good prices for the actual service. The space is very clean, and it is a woman owned which I really like. The entry door to the studio also locks behind you, they buzz you in, so there is an extra safety measure which is always appreciated. I did have to wait for about 10 minutes to start my appointment after I arrived on time. Since there are only 3 staff members, it is smaller and you're relying on the person in front of you to have arrived on time. Beside that, I would come back again. read more

This is probably my fourth waxing studio that I have tried here in Chicago and by far this was the best! The studio is small. It's clean and home-y feeling. The wax they use is great. Different ones for different areas and the lady, she's Bulgarian (I forgot her name :( ) was AMAZING. Finally a place that didn't almost rip my clitoris off. And it was mess free. No flying wax pieces or ladies who can't manage the wax with gloves. Quick and easy and such wonderful people. Great convos and you feel comfortable right away. And there was a great deal on Groupon! Like many other Chicago ladies, I purchased the Living Social deal for the Brazilian. When I first walked in, there were two girls at the reception desk. They looked up and just stared waiting for me to talk. No warm and fuzzies here. Hmmmm... And no, I didn't look like some random off the street who hasn't bathed. I just finished a long day at work and was a little tired. Having been open for only 3 months, I would think that they would be a little more cheerful in order to attract and keep customers. Plus, I'm supposed to trust them with a painful procedure performed on my privates! (How's that for alliteration? ha ha) Anyway, after filling out a profile form (covering health issues, etc.), I was ushered into a room in the back. It was tiny, but clean. They must have been reading the Yelp reviews, because there were no sticky floors and no wax left on me. Maria from Bulgaria took care of me and did a thorough and almost pain-free job. By the end of my appointment, Maria and I had bonded and the other chick actually smiled at me on the way out. OK, so I give her that. Just a hint --- customer service is big with me having been a waitress in my 20's and now I'm a nurse. I'm taking one star away for the initial impression... Hopefully, it won't be that way next time. Overall, I'm happy with the service and will definitely be back for maintenance. read more

I am sorry to give LPWS one star. I went one time about 2 yrs ago & they were awesome. Then, when I saw a Groupon for them I jumped on it. The fine print said if you hadn't been there in 12 months you could use the Groupon. As I mentioned, it had been two years since I was there. I called to schedule my appointment & they said they will not honor the Groupon because I had been a client 2 yrs ago. Even though the FINE PRINT PERMITTED use of the Groupon they denied me. From my Groupon: Fine Print Not valid for clients active within the past 12 months. Appointment required. Merchant's standard cancellation policy applies (any fees not to exceed voucher price). Limit 1 per person, may buy 1 additional as gift. Limit 1 per visit. Valid only for option purchased. All goods or services must be used by the same person. Also, Groupon gets a ding bec/ they gave me 24hrs to buy something else with the amount of money I spent at LPWS. I couldn't find anything I wanted so I just lost the money. Nope.... Called the day before and booked an appointment. Walked in a few mins late for my appointment , parking on Saturday morning is difficult, but my lady understood. Straight to the back I went... Now for a Brazilian wax virgin, let me say. I usually would requiring a few dinners and drinks before being so intimate with someone. No one has ever been soooo intimate with me outside of my husband and gynecologist. My lady was as gentle as someone could be in this procedure YES procedure. Anyone was says this is anything near painless is a type of crazy. I've delivered a child naturally with not even a Tylenol and didn't experience this much pain. Anywho back to the review. Receptionist nice personable. Waxing lady as personable as you can be. If I ever reconsider getting another wax this is definitely the place to. read more

I don't know if they treat their Groupon customers worse than regular clientele, but this was the worst wax I've had-- and I've been waxing for 8+ years! Most waxing studios will ask you if you're satisfied with your wax. Instead, Simona said "done!" and walked out. I found several spots that were left completely untouched. I bought a groupon for 2 brazilian waxes and my overall impression of this place is just "MEH". I've had a lot of brazilian waxes, and this place isn't the best, but also isn't the worst. My first esthetician, Simona, was fairly fast (~20 minutes) and only semi-painful. She made me feel like a burden to her and did not care to engage in helping distracting me from the pain by engaging in small talk. My next appointment was not really any better. I arrived for my appointment 5 minutes early, but ended up not being seen until 25 minutes after my appointment. Considering a brazilian usually only lasts about 20 minutes, this was pretty frustrating. The hostess didn't apologize or let me know they were running late. Another patron walked in and was also told "she'll be ready for you in a minute." She wasn't, so it seemed like a pattern to me. When the esthetician arrived, she didn't introduce herself or apologize for the tardiness in beginning my appointment. She was very fast (~10-15 minutes) and much more painless than Simona. I wish she had introduced herself, so I could give her credit! She made some attempts to converse, but generally left me feeling like talking to her was a burden. If you've already had a wax and are just getting cleaned up, I would say the groupon for Lincoln Park Waxing Studio isn't a bad bet. You're not getting great customer service or the fanciest waxing room, but they are fairly quick & painless here and you aren't paying a fortune. If you're a first timer, I'd go somewhere where the staff is a little softer around the edges. read more

I have like, three eyebrow hairs, okay? Which means I'm slightly hesitant to have those puppies plucked, snipped and waxed unless absolutely necessary. Yesterday was necessary. My eyebrow hairs had grown to four and I wasn't sure I could handle the extra foliage, especially so close to a trip home for three days. (What, no one else is small-town bred with a new big city look to flaunt?) Living Social-armed, I made a same-day appointment for 5:15 p.m. The receptionist told me that because of timing they usually prefer appointments on the half hour, but she was really accommodating for me because sister girl over here is NOT hanging around the office for an additional 15 minutes unless absolutely necessary. When I got there, the receptionist was friendly and welcoming. She had me fill out a super personal form, conveniently nestled next to the plate of Starbucks baked goods, ahem, and I was seen immediately. The waxing room is small, and a little dingy, but that's really my only complaint. The waxing gal took great care of me and was friendly and not at all awkward. She kept conversation going and spent roughly 15 minutes landscaping my four hairs down to three. Now I'm groomed and ready to show my people what city brows look like. An eyebrow clean-up runs $17 and a shaping is $25. I received a 10% coupon off any service and I also saw a sign in the window for 20%....something. I'm not one to pay attention to my surroundings. read more

I really like it here. Simona helped me a lot the other day with a better color for my eyebrow pencil. Another esthetician had just told me she didn't like the color I was using (too dark). I was completely hurt and offended - I have been experimenting. Some days make-up turns out better than others, right? Just like bad hair days. Simona reminded me of what I try to do with friends and clients - suggest a good alternative and never say the current item in use is not good. It is all in the presentation! But, the color (taupe) that Simona suggested is perfect. I bought a new pencil and am happy. I don't have a lot of eyebrow hair left - where does it go??? We have to shave underarms and legs forever, wax facial hair, but eyebrows get plucked and many hairs don't grow back. What gives here, Mother Nature? Has a woman EVER had repeated electrolysis for her EYEBROWS? I think not...because they just die somewhere along the line and go to an eyebrow grave. Back to the studio, Simona, and Maria - the best. I like to be able to go in without an appointment due to my business schedule. Perfect! So I also purchased the Living Social deal to try this place out so I could add it to my Brazilian Wax list. I will start by saying that its very cute and clean- its got a little waiting area with small rooms in the back for waxing. She used a new stick and waxing strip every time. I will have to agree that this might be the most painless wax I've ever had... even in comparison to salons that use hard wax. I've never had anyone use oil before waxing... it seems counter-intuitive but obviously works. I think it took her about 30 minutes, including some tweezing at the end. When I got home to inspect her work, she did a really good job- very few strays. My biggest complaint is she left me pretty sticky, which I was surprised by considering they use wax on the area during the process. Also, I think they normally charge $55 which is a little steep for me. BUT all in all I would absolutely come back here. They gave me a 10% coupon for next time and I will be using it. I think Trim also charges $55 and is pretty similar and I would hands down choose Lincoln Park Waxing Studio instead. read more

I love this place! Maria and Simona are the sweetest ladies ever. They really get to know you - they care about their clients! They always take me when I call (sometimes even in the last minute). They do a great job and offer many services besides waxing. I know they do nails and eyelashes. I got a lash lift by Maria before as well. They use hard wax for the face and bikini area. Everything else is strips. They are quick and friendly. What more could you ask for?! read more

I guess it's my fault for using a living social coupon to get a brazilian wax but I'm sure they anticipated that people would buy them and use them and it was a way of getting more business. However, my waxer was totally a (insert inappropriate swear words here)! I have been waxing different parts of my body for close to two decades and this was one of the two most painful waxes I've ever had. She did not have a plan, she just went on and on and didn't even hold my skin taut or anything, no direction, no interaction or asking if I"m okay. She just kept talking and talking about some bullshit, trying to distract me I guess and just kept waxing away. If it didn't mean that I was gonna walk out of there with a half waxed lower region, I think I wanted to slap her and get up and leave. Oh and the whole thing took 15 minutes so you can imagine how careful she was. My shortest brazilian ever took at least 30 minutes. However, I kept up my brave face and grit through it. The result was worse than my other bad experience. My hair grew back in less than a week and unevenly at that too,not to mention, my kitty kat was sore for about 4 days. I am never going back there. The worse part is, I don't know if she thought she was going to get gypped on tip or whatever but I tipped her 20% on the regular price because I'm not a cheap ass and knows how to value people who work in the service industry. I came to this place with the living social coupon for the Brazilian. It was my first time and they totally tried to relax me and distract me. They used oil so no skin was pulled off with the wax. Oh, I don't know where to start because I'm completely torn.... A brazilian and eyebrow wax does not take an hour. (Especially when my last brazilian was less than a month ago and eyebrow wax was two weeks ago) I was there for an hour and would've been there longer if I didn't stop the girl because my zip car was due back in two minutes! Sadly, I had to pay $50 to zip car because I was late.... The brazilian was painless, the girl was very thorough and I will give her that. Just be prepared to spend 45 min getting the wax completed because she only takes small strips of wax at a time. I was a little disappointed in my eyebrows because she had taken too much off on the right eyebrow. About 4 months ago a waxer had done the same thing and I've been trying to correct the problem since and my last two waxes have helped me in doing so but now I'm back to square one which is disappointing. They always have a sign on the door that says they will be right back....even when you have an appointment. The girls that work here are nice. The waxing is just different from other places. I got painful ingrown hairs that I have never experienced at other places. The do not double dip....a plus....because I would freak. My table in the room was dirty and had hair and wax on it that they just covered up with another paper cover. Wax was extremely hot. All in all....not a great experience. I will not be back. I love this place. I was really surprised to see some bad reviews. I have been getting bikini waxes for about 8 years now and have probably gone to about a dozen places over the years. I've been to Lincoln Park Waxing Studio maybe 5 or so times now. In a bikini wax there are two ways to win my heart: make it quick and make it not hurt. Okay, so a bikini wax will never not hurt, but this is the quickest and most painless bikini wax I've ever had. The girls here are great - very friendly and thorough. It's a pretty small place which makes it really easy to get in and get out unlike some of the bigger salon/spas. They also have it decorated really cute with pink pillows and the occasional cookie plate while you wait. I am giving them 5 stars for all the above reasons but as an added bonus, they once stayed open past their regular hours to squeeze me last minute. I would never expect anyone to do this, so I was very grateful. I hope they never go out of business and if they do, I would follow them. read more

I only recently started getting brazilians done so I thought this place was pretty good compared to others I have experienced. The rooms were very small and claustrophobic. The wax table was also kind of dirty, but had a clean sheet of paper on top. Probably not the best... As for the wax, she did a fantastic job overall! The wax wasn't too hot and she did not double dip. It was painful, but I have yet to get a brazilian that doesn't involve pain, which is why I was happy it went by so fast. read more

I've had my fair share of Brazilian waxes and this was by far the most thorough one! I felt no pain, and that was honestly the first time I've ever enjoyed my wax. I had a Living Social coupon for a mani/pedi, called and made an appointment for 10 am (when they open) and waited outside in the cold for half an hour before anyone showed up. When the guy finally answers the door, he has nothing more to say about being 30 minutes late to work/my appointment than "oh, sorry". Yea, I bet you are buddy. What REALLY pushed me over the edge, though, was the watered down nail polish! I kid you not, watery effing nail polish. Came for a Brazilian with a Groupon. Overall a good experience. THE WAX: Unfortunately didn't catch her name, but she was Bulgarian. It was different from most waxes I've had - she waxed in very short, quick strokes, and needed many more waxing strips than usual. Not bad, just different from what I've experienced. A little more painful than some estheticians I've been with, but nothing too bad. She also kept up a very pleasant conversation throughout, which was nice! THE SERVICE: Outside of the wax, the service was also fantastic! I called in the morning to see if I could get a same-day appointment, and they were super nice and accommodating. Also extremely pleasant during check-in and check-out. Note that if you bought the Groupon for 2 waxes, they redeem both at the same time and then give you a separate voucher for the second. Not a problem with me, but don't be alarmed when she redeems both your waxes. THE LOCATION: You have to enter through a nail studio and the salon is attached. Not sure why this is (they have a door, perhaps it's not working?), but gave me some confusion at first. The studio itself is very nice; they have plenty of magazines to read and it's clean and well-lit. Also, not very relevant, but the beds they have are the comfiest I've ever been on at a waxing salon. I could have taken a nap during my wax! read more

Contrary to what Yelp says, this place is NOT appointments only. I walked right in with no appointment last time I was there, and had no trouble (it was the middle of the week though, during off hours). They do take appointments, but they are not necessary. Moving on. I don't know my waxer's name, I admit. I should ask her next time. I've seen her twice now, and she's really good. I've only gone for eyebrows, but it seems to be hard for many to do them right, and she does a great job. I'm impressed. Yes, the rooms are a bit small, but I don't think it's a big deal. I am actually claustrophobic (enough that when I needed an MRI, it took me a while because it's harder to find open ones), but have no trouble in them. My table was clean and they still have the paper they use and replace after your appointment. Maybe I'd notice it more if I was half naked on the table, but since I don't have to take my clothes off, I haven't sat there noticing specs of dirt. It's a little expensive, but I'm willing to pay for a good job. Plus, with so many places switching to threading, I've found there are not as many places that wax anymore. LPWS does both. Decor is nice. It's not some fancy schmancy place, but it's nice enough. Plus, I'm in and out in 15 minutes or less, so decor is not a huge deal to me. All in all, I'm happy with my eyebrows, and that's what's important. Seeing as how my stylist retired (he also did my eyebrows), LPWS is now my go-to place for waxing. A tip: First time clients get 20% off and a 10% off coupon for the next wax after you're done with the first, and they do take tips on cards. read more
