We didn't have the same poor service as others commented on. Our waiter was warm and friendly and we found the service to be prompt. Food was hit or miss. Wings appetizer were very good. The lobster stew was great. I joked and said lobster flavored milk. But, all jokes aside it was delicious. It came with 4 lobster claw meat. I tried the lobster bisque. It was ok, nothing to rave about. I opted for the wings as I wasn't super hungry, but knew protein would've been a good choice. I was intrigued by the flavor, blueberry bbq wings. The wings came out naked, no sauce on them and you had to dip them into the small ramekins provided. I thought they would've been at least dressed and maybe having a nice small chart to them from cooking because that adds a fantastic flavor. But they came out naked and it wasn't what I was expecting. My son also ordered wings and his came out naked as well. My husband enjoyed his salad. He thought it was a great size. After reading some of reviews while sitting inside waiting for our food, I can understand where some customers are coming in regards to rude staff. When we walked in we were seated upstairs a few tables from the bar. While we sat and waited for our waiter many of the staff were chit chatting away. I really wanted to like this place so much. Tourist spot location but great quality cooking and a great menu! I was able to walk in on a weekday afternoon and get the pork sliders and blueberry cocktail! The service was prompt and friendly, and I sat alone at the bar so it was nice and peaceful. I cannot recommend the pork sliders enough! LBs Maine kitchen was just ok. Service was slow, and they somehow messed up chicken tenders. I probably wouldn't go back here again. We had a party of 7, and they quoted us a 30 min wait. That's fine, except we ended up waiting about 45 min. It would've been nice to get an update. I ordered the chicken tenders and they were dry inside and a bit chewy. Food: They were out of quite a bit in the menu. Three out of four of our party had to order different items than originally wanted. Linda Bean's is a cute restaurant in the heart of Freeport! They had a couple of vegetarian options to choose from, either a salad or an apple brie grilled cheese sandwich. I ordered the brie grilled cheese sandwich and it was okay. I felt like there was barely anything inside the sandwich. There was a few pieces of apple and a little bit of cheese, but overall was mostly bread. It was not very filling. I've had apple brie grilled cheeses before and this one needed a bit more work. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals. The lobster bisque was very thick and creamy. The restaurant itself is pretty big, two floors plus a patio. They were able to accommodate our large party of 12, and we had to wait around 40 minutes for 3 tables. Although we all ordered at the same time, the two other tables were done eating by the time our table got our food. Lunch for 4 last week. Convenient location, large dining spaces (up and down) to handle big crowds. Big menu with something for everyone. My wife and I had the fish and chips (pictured below). Unusual in that the fish was in nugget or "bite" form which means it is easy to eat, but had more batter. It was a bit dry, but the tartar sauce helps with that. Huge portions on everything we ordered - I was able to finish my fish but could barely put a dent in the fries. The slaw was pretty good, I caught a hint of onion in it. We waited 11 minutes to have our drinks before we even placed our order. My boyfriend said if he wasn't as hungry as he was he would have just paid for the drinks and left. I ordered a wild blueberry cocktail. He ordered a Pepsi, this was also flat. Now for the food.... We had lobster rolls. It came with plain kettle chips, a small dish of slaw & 3 small pickles. Already by the look of the food, the lobster looked dry. I was right, it was. Lobster came on a toasted bun. No butter. Slaw was okay. Chips we hardly touched. Not a filling meal as we paid over $78. Linda Bean's is a dependable spot. Located right across the street from the flagship store, they have a steady crowd of visitors coming in and out. Food was somewhat a tale of two platters. No complaints on the whole belly clams fried platter, which took me back to the days of similar platters at Cap'n Newicks. The lobster roll was not so strong; the roll needed a lot more butter and a lot more toasting. Linda Bean's also had signs up at each table that writing a review of the restaurant and sharing it with the server would earn you 10% off the meal. Something about that seemed off. Rest assured, I did not take Linda Bean's buyout for my honesty. My wife ordered the meat loaf stack and enjoyed it. I ordered the fisherman platter and a cup of clam chowder. I was less than impressed. The clam chowder screamed Progresso canned clam chowder. The taste and consistency was just not something a New England restaurant would prepare. The haddock was acceptable, although not fresh. It most likely came pre battered from a frozen bag. The scallops were under cooked and the fries were soggy. I brought most of the meal home, and cooked it properly the next day. At a price of $46.00, the entree was way under par. My family and I have been to this establishment a few times. Each time the food is pretty good. They give you a generous amount of food. The dessert was very good! My husband enjoyed his Lobster Roll. He says they give you a generous amount of Lobster! My father-in-law enjoyed his hamburger and my mom-in-law enjoyed her BLT. I enjoyed the fried chicken strips (not a fish person, lol). Knocking a few stars because of the following: 1) The air conditioner is leaking in the upper floor. 2) Place doesn't seem too clean. The floors seem dirty, bathroom has a smell in the pipes when you wash your hands. The windows and doors have lots of hand prints all over them. 3) The man who delivered our food to our table was looking a little rough; just wonder about the hygiene policy. As regular visitors to Freeport (and LLBean fanatics) we have visited Linda Bean's kitchen on multiple occasions but this will be the last. I ordered the Lobster Stew, my husband ordered Fish & Chips. The F&C were OK. Definitely not in my top 20, but OK. The Lobster Stew on the other hand ... My bowl of Lobster Stew arrived and it was, I will admit, large. A bowl of cream with a floating layer of oil. I was disappointed, but was looking forward to chunky, juicy lobster. As I fished around in the cream there was no lobster, I tried again - maybe it was smaller pieces? Nothing - my Lobster Stew was certainly not a stew - and there was no Lobster! I asked the hostess to find my server who took it back to the kitchen and returned with another bowl of oily cream. She told me the kitchen didn't want to replace it " but I told them there was no way you could have eaten the lobster in the five seconds you had the dish ". So now, not only did my $27 bowl of oily cream contain no lobster, I was being accused of " stealing " the lobster before returning the bowl to the kitchen! In fairness, the second bowl did contain a few pieces of lobster which were very nice. However: - Clearly the lobster meat was not " stewed " in the liquid. - A soup has more liquid than content. A stew has more content than liquid. - This was a bowl of poorly seasoned cream and oil with a few pieces of lobster thrown in at the end (if they remembered to do so - which they did not) - Accusing your customers of stealing the lobster before returning a bowl to the kitchen for a swap out??? I stopped in for my first lobster roll from LL Bean. I have always loved LL Bean and wanted enjoy my meal. Surprisingly, the buttered lobster in the roll tasted nothing of lobster... only overcooked morsels of dead butter. All lobster flavor was missing.
