The summary of my experience is a 5 star hotel combined with science and wildlife focused expeditions. Every person on staff was so accommodating, to the point you would think I spent hundreds of thousands for a private staff. But that's just how they do it. Whatever you need, they will do anything they can to make happen. I've never seen a cleaner ship, the housekeeping staff did an incredible job. The food....I could wax poetic for days about the food. The expeditions were incredible. They employ so many experts in different areas - naturalists, photographers and photojournalists, history, etc, and every one of them will go out of their way to answer your questions and teach you. Several lectures were held, which was a delightful treat. I don't think I'd do any big trips outside of Lindblad/National Geographic in the future. It was truly the best experience I could have had; I genuinely could not have imagined how much I would get from this trip. read more

Lindblad and National Geographic have put together one of the most amazing trips you can experience which was above first class from the time the plane landed to when you finally departed. I could write paragraphs and paragraphs of this amazingly positive experience and still not be able to tell everything. Although the trip may seem expensive at first glance after experiencing it, it was well worth it if not 2 to 3 times the cost! There was nothing spared in terms of cost to provide us with comfort and many things could've been charged extra, which they did not do. Lindblad/National Geographic are the perfect combination! One does the logistics (amazingly well), the other has the strings to enter exhibits or special dining experiences that other tour companies cannot. First rate in every area. The ocean wildlife in Baja is teeming! Every day we saw incredible sights, from blue whales spouting to humpbacks breaching and others bobbing to check us out. We cruised amid baby grey whales and witnessed many jumping rays , swam in huge schools of jacks and kayaked along the mangroves. Saw literally thousands of dolphins porpoising in our wake , to hammerhead sharks at the bow to snorkeling with playful Guadalupe fur seal and Calif. Sea lions. We experienced a lifetime of ocean vitality in one week! I learned so much about the wildlife each day from the naturalists in fun and engaging talks and even got to know how to use my little iPhone to take better photos on the photography hikes! Our Alaskan inside passage on the Seabird from Juneau to Ketchikan was an amazing, full of knowledge, beautiful, professional, personable, experience. The crew and staff were experts in their own fields/professions delivering a once in a lifetime experience. Because of this we are definitely planning on another expedition and would be pleasantly surprised to run into any one of the crew we had on the Seabird. The folks we met on this trip were wonderful and we've made some new lifelong friends! It was a purely magical experience !! This was a trip I will never forget. I went with a group of 14 family members ranging from 12 to 82 and we all had an amazing time. Food was incredible, staff was amazing, and the hikes, whale watching, etc were great. I have been on large 3,000+ passenger cruises before which have their own alure, but if you want to really experience the wildlife, be part of nature and are willing to give up the casinos and water slides, I highly recommend a National Geographic Lindblad cruise. read more

We were a family group of 10, ranging in age from 9 to 70-something, making the voyage from Sitka to Juneau. And everyone one of us LOVED this adventure. The service was top-notch, ditto the food, the naturalists, the crew, the room, etc. But I know we were lucky with a lot of sunshine and wildlife, including an evening that brought a spectacular sunset and so many whales and other wildlife-spotting: sea lions, seals, birds. At one point, two humpbacks seemed to be practicing their synchronized swimming routine, with a perfectly executed double dive. Yeah, did not expect that! Really appreciated the blend of plenty of engaging excursions but also down time for visiting in the lounge -- there were always snacks, and often cookies! -- with family and new friends. I just returned from the Fly the Drake Antarctica expedition with Lindblad Expeditions, and it was genuinely one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Antarctica itself is impossible to overstate. The wildlife, the scale, the silence, and the access we had made it feel rare and special in a way very few trips ever do. Once we were on the ship, Lindblad absolutely delivered. The expedition team, scientists, Zodiac drivers, housekeeping, and dining staff were exceptional. Safety decisions were thoughtful, weather calls were handled transparently, and time ashore was generous and flexible. We spent extended time with massive chinstrap and gentoo penguin colonies, easily in the hundreds of thousands, and also had whale and dolphin sightings. Pacing was excellent and respected individual comfort levels. The ship was well designed for an expedition environment. Cabins were thoughtfully laid out and comfortable. Public spaces could feel busy during briefings and meals, but there were always quieter areas like the library and chart room to step away. Outdoor deck access was a highlight. The onboard doctor was visible, approachable, and inspiringly confident. Service across the board was best in class. Housekeeping was flawless. Dining service was warm, attentive, and efficient. Food quality itself was mixed. Presentation and variety were good, but seasoning was consistently lacking, which became noticeable over time. Laundry deserves special mention. It was fast, reliable, and affordable. This ended up being one of the most useful amenities onboard and should be emphasized more clearly before the trip, especially given packing stress. Where Lindblad struggled was everything before and after stepping on the ship. Pre-trip communication was inconsistent and sometimes incorrect. Guidance around baggage weight and rental equipment changed depending on who you spoke with. Rental gear was advertised as being placed in cabins but was instead issued at the hotel and counted toward baggage. In practice, no bags were weighed, which made the conflicting instructions frustrating and unnecessary. The red and blue plane group system also detracted from the experience. Once assigned, those groups stuck and made it difficult to stay with friends you met onboard, affecting flights, dining, and scheduling. The preflight onshore team felt misaligned with the professionalism of the onboard staff. The contrast was noticeable and didn't reflect the premium nature of the trip. Privacy was another concern. Full passenger names, including minors, were publicly posted with cabin numbers, and photos of passengers in bathing suits, including minors, were displayed on public kiosks and shareable without consent. That felt inappropriate. WiFi was unreliable and required frequent manual reconnection. Overhead announcements made rest difficult, with no way to mute non-emergency alerts. The onboard shop was underwhelming, with limited, low-value souvenirs that didn't match the uniqueness of the destination. The return day was weather dependent, which is expected in Antarctica. Our flight back to Puerto Natales was delayed multiple times before departing late afternoon. Clearer expectation-setting around this would help. Despite the frustrations, the value was there. The moments on the ice, the wildlife encounters, and the professionalism of the onboard team made this a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Lindblad shines where it matters most. Tightening the pre- and post-trip experience would elevate this from excellent to truly exceptional. If you're considering Antarctica, this trip will change you. Just go in knowing the magic starts once you're on the ship. read more

The SEA LION cruise from JUNEAU to KETCHIKAN, ALASKA, is one of the most exciting, exceptional and memorable experiences of my life. I learned a tremendous amount of information from the Naturalists on Board. Shout out to Expedition Leader Ellie Piper and Naturalists: Alberto Montaudon Ferrer, Dr. Kerri McAllister, Dave Cannamore, Stephanie Hayes, and photographer Nick Karr. Dr Boris Garber was a dedicated professional. We were encouraged to spend massive amount of time on the BOW. Wow. Was it ever more than worth it: Humpback and Orca Whales, Sea Lions, Porpoises, and other wild life. I don't see much of that in Brooklyn!!! My advice to anyone considering this trip or any of the National Geographic tours...RUN!!! You won't regret it. Thank you National Geographic and Lindblad Tours. Lindblad Antarctica was our first ocean cruise for my wife and I, who are pushing 80. We pre-extended our trip to see Chilean and Argentinian Patagonia, which was nice. We flew the Drake Passage as my wife is prone to seasickness. What was a bit disappointing about the trip was that our departure to Antarctica was delayed three days due to bad weather, so planes were not flying in or out of Puerto Natalie's. Day trips were nicely arranged to Patagonia, but they went to areas we had already seen. When we did get to Antarctica, the staff arranged three excursions in a day to make up for lost time, which was good, as we basically were down to 1 1/2 days at our goal : another half day on the ship due to bad weather prevented us walking with the penguins. So be aware that delays and trip shortening are a real thing. I would be curious to know how often this sort of thing happens. While clients are apprised about the possibility, they are not presented with the data. If half of the trips were shortened by three days, shouldn't the clients know? The trip isn't cheap! read more

The whole expedition was absolutely fantastic. Words truly fall short of describing how incredible this experience was for our family. I'll share a few highlights--though they're in no particular order--because there were so many moments that stood out. At the very top of the list is how beautifully our daughter was treated. Huge credit goes to Naturalist Sophie. She played an extraordinary role in shaping Dia's experience. Even a week after returning home, Dia continues to talk about Sophie with so much affection. Sophie is an incredible teacher, a brilliant naturalist, and above all, a wonderful human being. If there is ever a child on board any ship, I would highly, highly recommend having Sophie there--she truly transformed this journey for us. We were initially worried about Dia being the only child on the ship and wondered how she would spend seven nights and eight days without other kids her age. But she had the time of her life--and Sophie played a huge role in that. Dia would literally jump out of bed in excitement when she knew she'd see Sophie. Her time with her was one of the absolute highlights of the trip. The most meaningful outcome for us has been the transformation we've seen in Dia. She is usually shy, hesitant, and not naturally confident. On this expedition, we watched her blossom into a more confident and outspoken young girl. She felt special, seen, and genuinely valued. That alone made the trip worth every penny. We never expected this kind of growth to be a byproduct of visiting Antarctica--but it has been the greatest gift. If this experience continues to shape her personality and she carries forward even a fraction of the confidence she gained--or is inspired by the remarkable people she met--that will be the greatest reward for us as parents. Caitlin, the photographer on board, also played a special role in connecting with Dia. She was knowledgeable, warm, and met Dia at her level--especially by engaging her through her love for Harry Potter. The way both Sophie and Caitlin made her feel comfortable and included was incredible. We are deeply grateful to these two wonderful souls who changed the entire experience for us. We also want to acknowledge how kind and warm the fellow guests were. Every single person treated Dia with such sweetness and encouragement. She loved meeting and talking to everyone. That collective warmth played a huge role in building her confidence. She was treated like royalty on the ship, and it made the experience so uniquely special for us. The naturalist team was exceptional. Jayden deserves special mention--he is immensely knowledgeable, passionate, and such a genuine people person. He was so patient, soft, and kind. We connected with him instantly and learned so much about Antarctica and life as a naturalist. He is a tremendous asset to any expedition. Brian, Ezra, Patrick, Ayla, and Eric were outstanding. We loved the zodiac rides, the deep conversations about expedition history with Ezra, Brian's photography tips, and Patrick's underwater dives and incredible videos. Beyond what we saw, it's the experiences we shared with them that will remain our strongest memories. They are inspiring individuals and make a great team together.. Lylie was a fantastic expedition leader. He managed everything seamlessly. Waking up every morning to his cheerful "Good morning folks" became one of our favorite rituals--we've even made it our alarm tone at home! Along with Eileen, he led the team impeccably. Along with Caption Leo, Orion becomes the best in the class!! The housekeeping staff were equally wonderful. Billy, our housekeeper, went above and beyond. Every morning he surprised Dia with toys made from bedsheets and towels--one of her most anticipated moments of the day. Despite our triple-sharing cabin and the daily setup and breakdown of the sofa bed, he kept everything spotless and comfortable. Cabin 417 truly felt like home. Dining on board was another highlight. We genuinely looked forward to every meal. Gary, Teddy, Eric, and Red treated us with so much warmth--it felt like being cared for by family. They pampered us, remembered our preferences, surprised Dia with ice cream and desserts, and even insisted she enjoy her favorites. They were incredibly attentive to my husband's vegetarian and gluten-free dietary needs--we never had to repeat anything. Gary's napkin creations and Teddy's magic tricks delighted Dia every day. Jen at the observation lounge was equally sweet and multi-talented. We still talk about them fondly and miss the warmth they brought to every meal. Overall, this was truly the trip of a lifetime. We went to Antarctica expecting the destination to be the highlight--but it was the people and the experience on board that made it extraordinary. Lindblad has created something truly special, and we are forever grateful for the memories and the growth this journey gave our family. read more
