I really hate vinyasa with a passion and I wasn't too gone on the Bikram studio that I had tried before. So, I was thrilled to find Prana Yoga after some googling. Prana Yoga is tucked in an unassuming strip mall in the northern suburb of Des Peres. (So, don't worry about parking because its plentiful.) Prana was founded by a couple of Bikram certified yoga instructors who wanted to teach yoga styles other than Bikram. I took class the 90 minute Prana Hot Yoga class from the owners Mary Jane Cusumano and Melanie Zuanich on two separate occassions. As you would expect, you do some, but not all of the Bikram series and some new yoga poses in a heated room. You also do a bit of "core" work which reminded me of CorePower. The instructor doesn't actually demonstrate any of the postures and there is a little podium at the front of the room. This was reminiscent of Bikram but that's where the similarities ended. The instructor does not bark orders at you and doesn't wear a wireless mic. There is a hardwood floor and no stinky carpet. Check-in was welcoming and friendly. Your second class is free and if you take their Prana Hot class you get free towels in the changing room. The changing room is HUGE so you don't have to worry about bumping into people. There are no lockers in the changing room though. Overall, the studio is very clean. You can tell that the owners actually takes pride in the way it looks. Prana is a great place to practice if you are looking for an alternative to the St. Louis Bikram.

Members spend enough time working out without having to tour the entire gym looking for equipment that was left somewhere else. When I mentioned that the equipment should be put back where it came from, Sharon's professional response was to tell me to "mind your own business" and that "it doesn't matter" where the equipment is returned. Interesting philosophy. I wonder if LifeTime feels that way, too. You can almost understand when an occasional member leaves equipment lying around. But when it's an employee--someone who's literally being paid to teach good habits--it's a masterclass in hypocrisy. Maybe the next training package should include a session called "How to Return Equipment 101." It's a short class: pick it up, walk it back, and put it where you found it. For a club that markets itself as a luxury fitness experience, I'd expect trainers to set the example--not encourage members to lower their standards. Apparently, "mind your own business" is now considered customer service.

I was locked in a contract at my new gym with my whole family and it was too pricey to join another place too. Then all the covid junk happened and I stop going there. Later on tried PLNK Lagree Fitness for quite awhile which I loved, but an old back injury was causing me problems. I decided to give yoga another try, and I'm so glad I did! My inflammation in my lower back has improved in just a few weeks. They have a variety of classes. I think they're all at least a warm class set to 85-88. That sounds hot, but it's not bad at all. The hot classes are set to 105. Set up in the middle of the room to avoid the vents blowing on you if you're worried about the heat. You can always take a break or modify any moves. They encourage you to do what's right for your body. Whether that means skipping a move, resting in child's pose, or maybe doing a more advanced move. You'll find all levels of experience in the classes, but some classes are labeled for intermediate to advanced. Check class descriptions before signing up! All of the instructors I've had so far have been great. They're helpful, kind, and knowledgable if you have any questions. Their studio has a padded floor that helps with my joint pain, and a nice large window to let in natural light. They have blocks, straps, blankets, and bolsters to use if needed. They also have mats to borrow if you forget yours, but there might be a fee for those. I'm not sure about that since I haven't needed one. I've never been late to a class, but I know the instructor locks the door right before class starts. So, don't be late!! I appreciate this so the class isn't interrupted, but this also keeps our belongings safe and keeps people from wandering in since they don't have a front desk person anymore. They try to lock it within the minute of class starting to give people running late a chance, but I wouldn't cut it that close. Their app is easy to use to sign up for classes, and you can check-in on the app or on the screen in the studio. The instructors will sometimes check in people as they come in the door too. Class packs do expire if you go that route. They offer a new client special that's a great deal for one month unlimited that'll give you a chance to try all the classes. Lastly, they offer a free hot vinyasa community class on Saturdays. Download the app and check it out!

I have been an avid gym-goer for the past 6-7 years (e.g. 24 Hr Fitness, LA Fitness, UFC Gym,…read morebootcamp boutique gyms, boxing and kickboxing gyms, Golds Gym). F45 though is something else! It is HIIT, some days are cardio focused, some are resistance focused, and some will just torch your entire body. To me F45 is efficient, effective, and encourages people to live a healthy lifestyle. Efficient: Weekday classes are 45 minutes. No time wasted. I love it especially because it holds me accountable to the active and rest times. I still go to Gold's however balancing my fitness with F45 has been life changing for me. When I am at Gold's, I obviously control my own rest times so technically I could be resting too long. At F45, you are going as soon as the screen goes green. Effective: 45 minutes of intense and I mean intense movements. If you are starting out in fitness, do not worry, you can always modify any exercise. The trainers of course will help you with that. For those who have been working out for a while, this will still kick your bum, trust me! Encourages: People make the difference. You will hear others say great job! or gives someone a high five once class is over. The trainers at this location are super fun and motivating. The layout is the same as any F45. It is clean and tidy. They have wipes so you know that the equipment is sanitary. Bathrooms are very clean. They have showers, I have not used them however they are in tip top shape. There are lockers for your belongings. There is a fountain where you can fill your bottle without the mouthpiece of the bottle touching anything; it's automatic. Some places do not have this type of fountain. The layout of the classes are great, I am never shoulder to shoulder with anyone because who wants to be when you are glistening in sweat?! I love this F45 studio in Des Peres, MO and hope you have a chance to check this gym out!
