I have been coming here for a long time. I think the food is fresh and prices are very reasonable. If you think you are getting "authentic" you probably think Italian beef came from Italy! I think the hot and spicy food is toned down, as other dishes are to fit what the locals want, American-style Chinese. Having said that I think they do a good job and this is very good place to go for a good low cost meal. We have things we like and every now and then try something different sometimes we like it. Worst experience ever. The food was not warm when it came and didn't taste fresh. Then I called the restaurant to let them know and the manager was very rude. I would have gladly tried this restaurant again in the future to give it another chance but after speaking with the manager, that's not going to happen. His continuous response me telling him about my experience was "no, that's impossible"... As If I enjoy calling restaurants to complain. Not to mention that the delivery driver had an issue when I asked him to drop off food at my door because I was alone with my small children and couldn't leave them to grab the food myself. The dinner meals come packed with food. Enough to serve 2 or have a meal for later. We had the shrimp/veggie combo, the chicken/veggie combo, the orange chicken combo, the mixed veggies in brown gravy, the pepper steak and tomato combo, & shrimp rangoon. We ate it before a photo. You may pass this place given it's hole in the wall status, however, its good people and good eats truly make up for what it lacks in real estate. Tucked in the corner, you can get dinners specials which consist of an egg-roll, soup of your choice (wonton, egg drop, or hot and sour) and your pick of delicious entree. Orange Chicken please, extra spicy! The bill comes out under $8 for all this. Close by, inexpensive, and great eats. (And high-five!) Lin (the owner) is f***-ing awesome. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Chicagoland. Best egg rolls and wonton soup around! The lunch and dinner specials are literally unbeatable. Everything is made to order and made fresh, I have specialized my orders so many times and they always are able to make it exactly how I want it so you know it's not coming frozen out of a bag. I think I understand that it must be difficult to run a restaurant. Even so, I would hope for a place to be more welcoming and less "run of the mill." My wife and I are visiting from out of town and simply went because of proximity to our hotel. Upon entering around 6:00pm a young woman called out to us from a distance, "take out?" We said, "no." She then just waved her hands at us. My wife and I looked at each other and assumed that meant to take a seat, but it made me hesitate and I almost left. Our server seemed tired, was not at all friendly or personable, but she got the order correct and filled our water glasses. As for the food, it was OK, nothing special. We had Szechuan shrimp and Szechuan beef. Both were marked as "spicy" but were not at all spicy. The price was good, as the meal came with an egg roll (which was very tasty) and soup (which was OK). One issue was the men's room. It smelled horribly--like vomit. It tapered my appetite. I don't want the business to suffer, but think it could step up its service. read more

When I worked in the area (pre-Covid) I used to eat lunch at Lin's almost every day. In those days lunch included tea and soup, and the entree came with fried rice and an egg roll. They now call themselves "Lin's Mandarin and Sushi" and have added a large sushi bar at the back of the restaurant. Lunch now includes only fried rice with the entree. Sad, because Lin's soups used to be fantastic. You can still order a small Won Ton Soup for $3.30 but I did not. I did order an order of egg rolls (2) for $4.00. Had to wait quite a while to get them, but they were crispy and hot, although not particularly flavorful. The big disappointment was my entree order of Pork Egg Foo Young ($7.65). They did serve two large patties with a nice portion of (probably chicken) fried rice, but the gravy was thin in consistency and tasted like Heinz Chicken Gravy out of the jar. Perhaps they now specialize in sushi. I was the only customer in the restaurant at 2 p.m. but the service was very slow. Lin's - you're not what you used to be. I doubt that I'll be back. read more

I ordered from them twice via Grub Hub. The first time I had ordered, the food was great. This time though, it was terrible!!! I had ordered the General Tso's chicken that came with a bed of beef fried rice and an egg roll. The egg roll was ok. The General Tso's chicken was horrid and the rice was even worse!!! The beef in the beef fried rice didn't even look like beef. Shortly after taking a few bites, I had to run to the bathroom. Needless to say, the rest of my meal ended up in the garbage. My wife had ordered the crab rangoon, which was stuffed mostly with raw onion. She also had the chicken pad Thai noodle that was filled with mostly tofu. Needless to say, her dinner ended up in the trash as well. That was literally $30 in the trash!!! While I was in the bathroom, my wife had called to complain about the meal and the person had told her that the menu says that they put tofu in the pad Thai, which is a lie since it doesn't state that in Grub Hub. She also mentioned about the crab rangoon was filled almost completely with raw onion and their response was that that's how they make them. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy! This was a horrible experience, I called the restaurant to complain, they did not apologize or offered a refund. The chicken paid Thai had chunks of tofu used as a filler and raw onion. The crab rangoon was stuffed with raw onion, with a dash of crab and a smear of cream cheese. My husband ordered beef fried rice, we found pork instead of beef. When I first got transferred to the O'Hare base, I lived in a flight attendant flop house with 12 people near the Cumberland Blue Line Station. Lin was my first real friend in Chicago. He always remembered me, he knew my order by heart, and he started teaching me phrases in Mandarin to use on unsuspecting Chinese passengers, like "Ni Hao! Wa Ay Ni!!" No matter how many times I have told Lin about the reasons why, after 7 long years of matrimony, I am still barren, Lin always greets me with a smile and the same phrase, "How many months along are you?" To which I always reply, "Zero months, Lin, my best friend..I am just fat and I need more Chinese Food please!" He just does not get it! With not too many Chinese food options by my office, I'm glad to have been introduced to Lin's by fellow co-workers. Whilst the place isn't spacious or glammy, it does have its good points. The lunch specials put this place in the good cheap eats that I need to have close by so I'm grateful for that. The food tasted good enough for the various times I've visited. It wasn't spectacular but overall a good value for price and amount that you get. Starving, I had just dropped off my parents at O'Hare and forgot that I was headed back to the office and not home (wishful thinking since it was a Saturday) so I cut over to Cumberland after missing my exit. All I wanted was a Subway to take the edge off. I'd never been to Lin's but Chinese sounded fabulous. I love Lin's Mandarin - this must be the best Chinese food in the area! I love the shrimp fried rice and Kung Bao chicken. The portions are massive, especially when you dine in. Speaking of dining in, the restaurant is small, but quaint. I have mainly dined there in the evenings, so we usually get decent service. We did make a mistake of going there for an early Saturday dinner and it was packed, so the service was slow. The food, fortunately, was still top notch. This is a family owned business and everyone contributes to customer service. This means that your food will be delivered to your table as soon as it is ready. VERY DISAPPOINTING! Was expecting delicious food - what we got - well to me it tasted as if it were made in the microwave - and perhaps it was as it arrived at the table within minutes of ordering. Portions were rather small - and everything was very over sauced - probably to cover the lack of chicken & beef in dishes.
