    Ginger fish filet. Very tasty!
    Maria A.

Flew home in time to have dinner with my husband. Craving Chinese food and this place did not disappoint. They have a robust menu and we went with two dishes. One was a chefs specialty trio with beef, shrimp, and chicken. Can't remember the name. The other was a ginger fish filet. We also got the large egg drop soup. We each had a cup and there was still a whole extra cup to take home. Staff was friendly and efficient. Plenty of seating. Clean tables. Clean restaurant. Clean bathrooms.

    Szechwan beef dinner

My friends and I ordered food to go from here because it's my friend's typical place to get Chinese food, and it did not disappoint. Because we did not eat inside the restaurant, this review is solely based on the food and not the service nor the restaurant itself because I did not pick up the food myself. We all ended up ordering different things, but all 6 of us enjoyed what we ordered. I ordered the Szechwan beef dinner, and it was delicious! It came with fried rice and an egg roll and was only $9.65, which isn't bad at all for all the food I got! The dish was spicy and included fresh veggies inside, and the eggroll was so crispy. Honestly, it was one of the best Chinese food meals I've ever consumed. I will say, this meal was hard to reheat because I had some the next day, and it was hard to heat the beef again without making it dried out and gross. Everything else from the meal turned out great the next day, though! My husband ordered just chicken fried rice and an eggroll and thoroughly enjoyed that, too. Overall, I would 100% come back here and do recommend others to try! P.S. I'm not sure where they get their fortune cookies from, but we got 8 in our bag, and my friend opened one with no fortune, so we gave her another one, and that one had no fortune either. The third one she opened finally had one, and all of the others had a fortune inside, too, but we thought that was hilarious.

I'm going to qualify this by stating that the reason I ordered from here is that they deliver to the Airport Hilton. Not many places do. I also had high hopes because the Egg Rolls said they had Pork, Shrimp and Peanut Butter. If any of you reading this grew up in Chicago you know what a really good Egg Roll tastes like. Well, on that they did not deliver. The skin was the proper skin. But the pork was ground pork (wrong) and if it had shrimp in there it was pretty well hidden. Peanut butter, maybe just the slightest hint. I'll take a pass on the egg rolls. I got the lunch special that included the egg roll and fried rice. Just your basic fried rice. Not the BBQ pork fried rice most of us old natives have come to know and love. As a safe go to I got the tomato pepper beef. It was bland. It should have had some fermented bean paste in there but no, just a brown soy based sauce thickened with cornstarch. Ok but not what I would return for. I'm not sure if there really is anything in the way of what I used to know as some great Chinese restaurants that were on most every block when I was growing up. Most have closed because their kids are all doctors are scientists. It's not bad, just not great. I have had worse. A lot worse. The service, delivery time was great. Less than 30 minutes from order to the curb. Also you can and probably should call them directly instead of ordering from an app. I used the link on yelp and they called me to verify my info. And unlike many Asian restaurants you call from airport hotels the person on the phone was as fluent in English as most Chicagoans. I might give them one more shot next time I'm stuck at the airport and try the Chicken Almond Dine. Another one of my favorites from my youth.

Ordered for pick pickup so this review is solely on food not service or inside. First time trying this place after moving to the area and it was tasteless. 1. The egg foo young had no veggies in the rice just the egg. The gravy was a cheap flavor. It was cooked fine, but no flavor to it. 2. The kung pao chicken was ordered spicy and it had nothing to do that, not even the red chilis. Again cooked fine, but tasted bland. Also at one point when I bit into the chicken, a piece had slimy cartilage. I know they use chicken breast, so they didn't properly examine their pieces. By the time I finished the chicken, there was so much rice and veggies left definitely 2 meals worth of leftovers. It was unevenly proportioned.

    General Tsao's chicken

I tried the general Tsao's chicken. It was not very good Sauce was bad, quality of the meat was bad. Fried Bruce was bad The egg rolls were good but everything else bad I've eaten here twice now & they were 0-2 If you order here order something other than the general Tsao's chicken

The type of Chinese fusion I grew up on. Plenty of vegetarian options, fresh and smoothies made to order. Not fancy, just good.

We had General Tso's chicken, BBQ fried rice, shrimp fried rice, crab rangoons, and vegetable lo mein. The vegetable lo mein was a standout--flavorful, well-seasoned, and really delicious. The crab rangoons were also tasty and nicely crisp. The General Tso's chicken had good flavor, but the pieces were very large, which made them a bit harder to eat and less balanced with the sauce. It was off putting to me. The fried rice was okay overall, but it felt a bit plain. It could have used more ingredients mixed in--especially more egg--to give it more flavor and texture.

Pickup service was extremely slow. I had placed my order at 5:35pm and was told it would be ready in 25 minutes. I arrived at 6:00pm to find people using their dining tables to wait on their pickup order. I heard a lot of cooking going on in the kitchen, but not a lot of food was flowing out. It was about 6:30pm when I questioned why it was taking an hour and after threatening to cancel my order, it was miraculously ready within 5 minutes. I have a lot of patience, but waiting an excess of 30 minutes over the estimated time is unreasonable. I guess my first clue that there was a problem was that they didn't answer the phone until after a 3rd attempt when I tried to place my order. Thinking they were extremely busy, I noticed they weren't really busy at least to answer the phone while I was sitting there waiting for my order. They just simply let the phone ring. This could have been a way for them to slow down the orders and get the kitchen to catch up. I don't think that is a good strategy to run a successful restaurant. Food: 3/5. Service: 1/5.

Long time customer, first time complainer…read more Tried to go to dinner with my husband on Monday night 1-19-26. We walk in, were seated and I thought it seemed cold. I looked around and noticed that everyone in the restaurant was wearing a coat. We waited for 5 minutes, our waiter came by and brought menus and water, and I asked him if the heat was broken. And he told me yes the heat is broken. I don't know what the temperature was inside, but the carryout business was very busy and there were about 8 or 10 tables with people seated. Again, every single person was wearing a coat. I asked if the heat was going to be fixed right away, and he said no no maybe tomorrow. We left. When I go to Jess Cafe, I'm not looking for fine dining, or white tablecloths. I want dinner. Relatively quickly, inexpensively, and consistent. What I don't want is to freeze my ass off while I'm dining. We figured we'd come back the next night. Tuesday 1-20-26, I called to ask if the heat had been fixed. I was told no not really. So we stayed home for dinner. That's okay. Wednesday 1-21-26, had a meeting to go to, so my husband went out for pizza with a couple of friends. Today, Thursday 1-22-26. Long, long day at work, and it wasn't even time for lunch! My coworkers wanted to order Chinese food for lunch but before I committed I thought I would check with Jess Cafe to see if they had heat, because if they did my husband and I would go there for dinner. So I called. A nice guy answered the phone and I asked if they had heat. And he told me that it wasn't too bad, about 50° to 55°, but most customers were wearing coats and hats inside. So I ordered Chinese lunch with my friends at work and decided to write this review. The food at Jess Cafe is okay. It's not great, it's a little inconsistent, and some things are just not great at all. They also don't offer a lot of the standards that many Cantonese restaurants offer. Their potstickers are weird, they don't have shrimp toast, and they don't have the stuffed crab claws. We really like those. And they're Thai, and Korean food some of its passable but some of it is just gross. And what they charge for a small dish of kimchi you could buy a giant jar for the same price at Costco. It's nonetheless it's pretty good. As I said usually consistent, but here's my big complaint. And this is a message to the owner. A tall, good looking, skinny guy who lately has been running around in an orange down coat. Mr Jess Cafe - I don't care how you spend your money. It's your money. You earn it, you get to spend it however you want. But - if you're going to drive around in a big honking BMW SUV and perk it right in front of your restaurant fix the fucking heat so that your employees and patrons aren't freezing their asses off. You're in the hospitality business offer some hospitality. And park the fucking BMW in back because it's really kind of shitty to perk it right in front for your employees and customers to see whenever you want is freezing their gonads off. That's all I got thanks

I've had the chicken in black pepper sauce, egg drop soup, egg fried rice, and the egg rolls. I would come here just for the egg rolls, hands down. Little known fact, but Chicago's egg rolls usually have a smidge of peanut butter in them as a binder, and for me this is what sets them apart from the rest of the US. Tony's egg rolls are the perfect flavor and consistency, and are the perfect embodiment of the Chicago Chinese Eggroll. The egg drop soup is some of the best I've ever had. Most other egg drop soups that I've tried have a thick broth with egg ribboned into it. Tony's broth is thin, but very flavorful and the eggs in the soup are SO fluffy! They even put some chicken in it as well. I was a little put-off by the visual difference, but once I tried it I was sold! The black pepper chicken was also great with the perfect amount of spice and a great depth of flavor. I usually order ahead on their website, and they are always ready once I arrive.
