That day finally came a few years ago at Stilwell Pianos. Acoustic pianos are incredibly complex analog instruments that are sensitive to changes in temperature, moisture, and numerous other factors. Because of this, it's impossible to pick a piano just by brand and model if you're specific about the action (touch) and intonation (sound). For experienced players, you have to play it to know if it's the one. I went to several stores in town. Most were staffed with pushy sales guys trying to land a Steinway sale using every trick in the book to create urgency and assume the sale. This bullshit doesn't fly with me and ruins the journey. I first visited Stilwell at their old location. Michael introduced himself, inquired what I was looking for, and let me explore on my own. No tactics, no pressure selling, etc. It took probably 4 trips over 6ish months before he had the right inventory for what I wanted. The buying process was straightforward from there and they used Max Piano Moving (best guys in town) for transport. Whether you're a seasoned professional or looking for your child's first piano, can't recommend these guys enough.

I turned on my heels and said Good Day, Sir, and as I was exiting the store, he yelled after me "we have a used Yamaha grand piano for sale." That's a sale that he lost.
