Took a day long boat ride over to Seldovia from Homer. Options for lunch are fairly limited there, but after looking at the Yelp reviews we landed at Linwood Bar & Grill. It's not fancy, but has its charm. Prices were reasonable, we shared a chicken avocado melt sandwich with upgrade onion rings. Very tasty. Also had an Alaskan IPA. But the best part, hands down, was the clam chowder! Lots of clams, vegetables, and potatoes. Not your usual cream sauce, potatoes and clams, but with so much more - flavorful and balanced. Advertised as "world-famous". I've had a lot and this one is probably the best chowder I've ever had! Don't miss it. (I recommended it to another fellow boater and they agreed that it was excellent!) Also "shout out" to our server Madison, who did a great job, and was very friendly. Thanks! There's not much in Seldovia as far as food so this was definitely a pleasant surprise! Straight to the point Bar & Grill joint with a long bar and outdoor seating.. the views are amazing. Nice little menu of upscale-ish pub fare & they're known for burgers. We tried wings and chicken/ avocado melts.. the food was good but the beers were even better after that "Wildlife Cruise" across the bay. I hate people!! We took the wildlife scenic tour of Homer Split. We wanted something to other than fish. Sat outside in the sun but the ravens were a nuisance. As many as 4-10 would land on any empty table. You have to guard your food and not drop anything. One waitress so service is way slow. Drink options were limited and of course they were out of everything we wanted to drink, lemonade,.hot chocolate and Alaskan White. Burgers were huge, tater tots had a good crunch, as did the onion rings. BLT was good except the half ripe tomato. Pepperoni pizza was good and chicken nuggets and chicken strips were good and crunchy. read more

Quite possibly the worst restaurant I have ever visited. One server in the entire place. One! She was bar tender, waitress, bus girl, etc. So yeah, service was slow and obviously she was, well, not enthusiastic to say the least. Not blaming her. Food was much, much worse. They actually served nachos that were so badly burnt, maybe 1/4 cup cheese at the most, dried and burnt ground beef. No salsa, no sour cream. No nothing. It was sooooo bad we could only laugh. Thoughts of sending it back were futile as we only had four hours to catch the ferry back to Homer and probably would have missed it waiting for another batch of food. I could go on but I won't. We enjoyed the food at Linwood Bar & Grill. Service was great and patience is key as they are only one of a couple places serving dinner here on Seldovia so it can get hectic. We had lunch and dinner here a couple times. We had the chicken strips and fries (fries were so good), bacon crispy (chicken sandwich), spicy chicken salad, Mediterranean salad, calamari & bleu cheeseburger. Pretty good food. read more

Waited over two hours for our food (a salad and a pizza). After our initial order, our server never checked in with us. We saw table after table get their food while we were completely ignored. I had to walk to the bar to ask about our food to get to an update. Our server then blamed the printer and her kitchen staff for the delay. No apology offered. I'm traveling solo and I have enjoyed nearly everything I have seen in the Kenaii Peninsula and Seldovia. Seldovia is such a lovely town with wonderful people that mostly enjoy tourists, especially those of us that pay attention as this is a small town with the population made up with almost as many kids as adults... anyway, I say this as I'm Watching a little girl (striking blue eyes) play around and tease her family and all of them just delighting in it.. this is the atmosphere I experienced at the Linwood. And I sat in the back with a view and the entertainment of this little girl. The waitresses were awesome and helpful! I have been traveling for 3 weeks and haven't had pizza and missed it so I ordered the pepperoni and onion pizza and it was hot, flavorful, and just right! I xactly what I needed at the moment. Surly bartenders, cheap booze, decent food, and great company! I will say that the choices were limited when I was in town; this was the ONLY place open for evening meals. That being the case the place was packed with locals which lead to an amazingly great time! The bartenders had just the right amount of attitude but were very attentive to all the patrons. The cook was putting out the food and all in all it was pretty tasty. I had a cheeseburger and fries which is my go to fare. The burger was cooked perfectly and the fries were battered and crispy. I will for sure go back when I'm in town if not just to visit the friends I made and enjoy the local scene. read more

The clam chowder was the best we've found on our trip and the chicken fried steak was amazing...and being from Nebraska...we know our chicken fried steak! Where to start. This came highly recommended from the tour guide on the boat ride over. It's a quaint little town that makes a decent day trip from Homer. It's hard to describe the experience as it seems surreal. We spent almost two hours hear for lunch. There were five of us and every one of our meals came out wrong and late. The waitress came by four times to ask us to repeat our order. She would come by and ask, we would tell her, she would go back inside and then ten to fifteen minutes later come back and ask us again what we wanted. When food did come out, it was pretty terrible. The deep-fried food tasted like they hadn't changed the oil out any point. Nobody enjoyed the food. Pretty terrible all around. read more

Food came out hot and correct although our appetizer did come out a bit after our meals, not a huge deal. Ordered a Bloody Mary with lunch and it was fantastic. Water is self serve which we really enjoyed as we consume a lot of water and like being able to bring a pitcher to the table. They were out of a lot of drinks, beer and fresh fish but it's to be understood when you live in a more remote location sometimes you're just gonna run out of things! Our food was fresh, hot and delicious and the service from the moment we walked into the doors was friendly and inviting. This is my first trip to Alaska and came to seldovia for two nights. There was only one place open after 7pm on Monday-Thursday and it is the Linwood Bar. The food is great but the service is a little slow. My husband and I had a Cesar salad ($10 for large) and fish and chips (Cod fish $15) with a couple of cold beers ($6 each). The second night we had a BBQ chicken pizza (small $15), a salad ($10) and cold beers ($6 - $4.50). Pizza was FANTASTIC!!! Both meals were perfect for two, no left overs. read more

Oh my!!! Five of us went in to eat about 7 p.m. back in May....dinner came out about 2 hours later!!! Several people had already left because of waiting. The bar was not busy, waitress in bare feet behind the bar, several others walking back and getting their own drinks.....we were told they were out of ice (?) and also tall glasses for soda...warm soda in short glasses! Food finally came and was mediocre. Waitress was very apologetic (certainly not her fault) but I swear the cook was cooking one item at a time. This is the place to spend an afternoon when you are not fishing, biking, hiking or anything outdoors in Seldovia. Beyond the fact that the food is really good, the people that work there really seem to enjoy themselves, which in turn is reflected in their great service. I would recommend ordering the Chicken Picanté pizza while sitting in the terrace sipping a nice cold beer. I had an amazing time there with a very welcoming staff, and look forward to returning on my next visit. read more

I don't write reviews of places that often, but when I find a fun place, I take the time! This is my first time in Alaska, and definitely my first time in Seldovia. (Well worth the ferry ride over from Homer.) Apparently, there aren't that many places open on Sunday through Tuesday in the "off-season" in March here, so we tried the Linwood Bar out. It had a very fun atmosphere with friendly faces. I was surprised to read the few reviews on Yelp that were negative after going here. The food was great (we had fried mushrooms as an appetizer and pizza for main course). They had good beer on tap, and they were willing to cater to my daughter's odd salad requests that were off-menu. Being there when it was off-season, it wasn't terribly busy, but there were some larger tables with locals, and it still didn't take very long to get our food. As for the "wait time" the negative reviewers left, I can say that the waitress told us everything (even the batter on the appetizer we had and the dipping sauces) is fresh-prepared, so I'd much rather wait for quality ingredients versus frozen, pre-processed items. To sum it all up, we loved this place and will definitely return! read more
