Yes, I have been back to visit my dearly beloved "best fries in Alaska" and I can confirm that they still retain the number one spot. This place was so packed tonight, because it's the height of the tourist season (we couldn't get parked for a good 10 minutes) and so the place was HEAVING and packed to the rafters. Even so, we were seated immediately, and the fancy water carafe brought to us. Obviously I think most of the people in here are tourists. Most don't look Alaskan, if you know what I mean. I order the sublime Parm Fry Stack, that I've been dreaming about for 7 months, and he got, oh who cares what he got, I don't remember. He should write his own reviews. Despite the jam-packed dining room, it was not overly noisy, and you could hear your conversation. I had an unfortunate experience at a cafe recently, where I encountered one of those people who love the sound of their own voice, instead of chowing down on some good food. Fortunately there were none of those type in here, and so I got to appreciate my Parm Fry Stack in peace. Our server seemed surprised that I only wanted the Parm Fry Stack, and not a proper entree, and we wouldn't be sharing them between us, along with our main meal. No! Potatoes can be a main too. Well. You know the last time I had them, I was impressed. It was a sizable portion. This time, it was an absolutely enormous portion. A DAUNTING portion. Even I was dubious that I could manage it. But they were as epically delicious as the first time with no difference in flavour at all, which I am supremely grateful for. Came here for dinner. Was a bit crowded but found seating right away. Ordered the halibut fish tacos and they were by far the best fish tacos I've ever had. Service was a bit to be desired. Our waitress seemed annoyed and was very short with us I felt when we asked a few questions about the menu. They had a small beer selection but a decent variety. We ended up coming once more before leaving town because the tacos were that good. Unfortunately we had another waitress that was fine but no one there gave you that warm friendly vibe. Great local spot- a local recommended this as their favorite regular bar, so it was a must. Finding something to eat after 8:30 pm is difficult enough in Homer so knowing the Alibi is open later on Friday and Saturday nights with live music is awesome. It's definitely a neighborhood feel. Everyone knows everyone else and knows who the tourists are. Halibut cakes were the special and we asked about it, the bartender replied, "if there is a special up there you should order it." So we did. I was there for the peanut butter and jelly chicken wings! Period. The wings were crisp and tossed with just the right amount of sweetness. House made peanut butter and locally sourced jelly is spot on!! Local beer on tap just adds the niche of this neighborhood favorite. Loved the service and the food. Arrived about 5:30 mid week and they still had tables available. Virtually no wait time, seated and placed our drink orders. Pretty decent selection of beers, 6-8 different wines, multiple signature cocktails and a great selection of liquor. Drinks came out quickly, saw the size of the appetizers at the next table over (yea we were lurking) and they were huge. Alibi was recommended to us as a "must try" and we can definitely see why! The food is fantastic! They have a great menu with a lot of different choices that all sounded delish! We ended up ordering halibut tacos, the Baja wings, and the Parm Fry fry stack. Each of them turned out go be as good as they sounded! The halibut was cooked and seasoned perfectly, the wings were crispy and super tender, and the fry stack had the perfect balance of cheese and sauce with great flavor! The service was friendly and attentive and the overall setting was very casual. This place gets packed and we can definitely see why! Went after reading reviews and having hardly any options here in Homer. Sat at the bar. My friend asked a few questions and the guy behind the bar was kind of curt with her. I tried to engage in conversation asking what the association was with the Chargers jersey. When he found out we were from Los Angeles he flipped us off and said fuck you. I was so shocked as this was totally uncalled for. Especially to a patron simply asking about the decor. Apparently San Diegans have an issue with Angeleans. News to me. Ordered a taco salad no guacamole, pick, or Baja sauce. He asked if I wanted if tossed together and I said yes. It came with a giant, wasteful mound of lettuce that I took off just to get to the meat. Only to find out the chips were covered in this enchilada type sauce. What I asked not to have. First and foremost, this place is a bar. However, the dining area is spacious and has a beautiful view of the Homer mountains and glaciers. When we got there around eight, a couple of off duty oilmen were at the bar. Cussing and loud macho talk could be heard from the bar into the dining area. Their speciality is typical sports bar food. The halibut fish tacos included a purple cabbage slaw, adding a colorful Homer spirit to the presentation. You will not be dissapointed by the creamy and decadent peanut butter cheesecake! Overall, this place is relatively cheaper, compared to the other dining options in Homer. If I had the option, I would have come here again for dinner. This place has better food than you'd find at more expensive restaurants in town. The inside of the place feels a bit like a bar with a dining room added on, but the view from the room is nice, with lots of windows. The staff were very nice and fun. We got the halibut fish tacos at the recommendation of the waitress along with some nachos. Both were great. The owner (or manager) even gave us some pointers on how to cook the halibut we caught. Definitely a sports bar. Heavy on bar--- However, Local hangout, good Alaskan people. The beer, the value pricing, the live music and the environs must've been amazing during those times of the day. I didn't go to drink or prowl; I visited for their famed halibut tacos. The fish was unbelievable fresh, kudos. But when you say tacos I think spice. I think the chef wanted to let the beauty of the fish stand out. I'd say they were good as is, but I would add a habanero pineapple chutney. The table ordered a Cesar lettuce wrap, the nacho plate (massive and typical bar food), chicken enchiladas (not very good), and a very large Asian salad. All of these dishes were good values for Homer Alaska, but none of them had the deeper refined finishes which comes from a culinary school. Well priced, Bar food. Wow! I've traveled the world and never have I experienced such disrespect! Yes the owner is a compulsive liar and a complete jerk! No one in our party said anything but sighed when he started cussing us out. And in pure defense, we defended ourselves and left. Also, the dog we had with us was a certified, licensed, trained service animal in a medical bag. Not a pet in a purse. Maybe his wife the waitress had a problem with this and so she called her husband over. Anyways if u have a problem with the service dog then you shouldn't be in business since my wife is protected by the ADA ACT and you could be sued! Also there's phtotos of the owner with dogs in the bar on their website.... Obviously hes lying again. Also, nobody went back to apologize! For what? This guy is seriously delusional! The good: Prices on the menu pretty cheap for Homer! The bad: $8 for a teensy bit of whiskey. The wings were the spiciest on the menu and I tasted 0 spiciness. There was a little girl bringing people food and doing cartwheels in the dance area, it was really weird because I'm not sure if little girls (around 10 probably) are supposed to be in bars. This being Homer nobody cared, she was some employee's kid. But yeah, the wings were disappointing cause of their lack of spiciness, the blue cheese dressing seemed like ranch with blue cheese crumbles tossed in, they were $13 for maybe 6-8? We chose this place because it was one of a few restaurants in town serving dinner after 9:30pm. It didn't look like much from the outside so our expectations were low, but we were pleasantly surprised - the food was excellent! We started with the eggrolls which were delicious - crispy on the outside and moist on the inside with tons of flavor. We shared the chicken nachos and two halibut tacos for dinner, which ended up being way too much food (the nachos are massive!) but also really tasty. The tacos had large, generous chunks of halibut, cabbage, pico de gallo and guacomole with a tangy sauce. I would absolutely order them again, especially at $5.50 per taco - a bargain in a tourist town! The toppings on the nachos were also generous and distributed in layers so you weren't left with a large pile of plain tortilla chips at the end - the way nachos should be made. The place was busy and may have been understaffed, but we still got our drinks and food quickly. The Alibi did not disappoint - definitely worth a stop when you're in Homer! read more
