Green Oaks Creek Farm - Reception Area

The coastal communities located between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz are ideal spots for such experiments in low-impact land use, and they offer great alternatives to corporate food culture to those lucky enough to access them. Green Oaks Creek is a small, family-owned farm and rural retreat located south of Pescadero between the Pacific and the Santa Cruz Mountains. You can tour the farm, camp out, stay overnight in a yurt, or even hold a wedding on their eco-friendly property. These all sound really great, and the farm - part of a historic orchard and ranch property settled by the Steele family in the early 1900s - is near to lots of cool places to visit: Pigeon Point lighthouse, Año Neuvo park, Butano park, Coastways Ranch, etc. But this review is about the food. On three acres of land dedicated to organic strawberries, flowers, herbs, and vegetables, the folks at GOCF produce some very lovely and delicious products, which the sell at several farmers' markets in the area and through a CSA program: Palo Alto (Sun), Pacifica (Wed.). and Half Moon Bay (Sat). Their stand is small but superb. We've gotten some fantastic Seascape organic strawberries, sweet and rich in flavor, as well as ultra-fresh green garlic, mixed greens, and lettuce. It's a lovely little set-up with something new every week, including cut flowers. We are happy to have found them and look forward to their late spring and summer offerings. Perhaps we'll visit the farm in the future, too!

We chose this place as a way to spend our anniversary weekend. We wanted to be away from the city,…read moreclose to the beach and hiking places, and we were enticed by the green, sustainable character of the Farm. What we found was not a green grass to camp on but a dry, dusty, stubbly field. The "kitchen" is this 3-walled, straw bale structure which looked unkempt, at first sight, and had rotting food in the fridge and questionable utensils. The outdoor bath is not dedicated to the campers, but actually shared with the farm staff. You'll find multiple towels and toiletries strewn about if you try to use it. But most of all, there was no sense of being welcomed by the owners. It was like having guests was an afterthought. It gave the impression of a couple of latecomer hippies that were on their way to failing their return to the land, and had a hard time keeping it all together: the farm, the retreat business, and their lives. We were going to spend two nights and ended up leaving the next morning to go back home.

Wave Street Studios - Best Place to Dance in Monterey

We've now hosted our annual Young Adults with Epilepsy Making Waves Gala at Wave Street Studios…read moretwice, and I can honestly say it is one of Monterey's hidden gems. From the moment you begin planning until the last guest leaves the dance floor, Rhett and his family are incredibly hands-on, responsive, and genuinely invested in making your event a success. It's truly a family affair, with Rhett, his wife, son, and daughter all pitching in to make everything feel seamless. One of the things that sets Wave Street Studios apart is how effortlessly the space transforms throughout the evening. Our guests enjoyed dinner, then the room transitioned beautifully into a lively dance floor without missing a beat. The lighting, technology, and overall atmosphere create a magical experience that feels both sophisticated and welcoming. Rhett also coordinated seamlessly with one of their preferred catering partners, Fire on Wheels Pizza, who not only served fantastic food but even created a custom signature mocktail just for our event. It was such a thoughtful touch that our guests loved. Hosting a nonprofit gala requires countless moving pieces, and having a venue partner who anticipates needs, solves problems before they arise, and truly cares is invaluable. Wave Street Studios does exactly that. Add in the tremendous value for everything that's included, and it's hard to imagine a better event venue on the Monterey Peninsula. What we especially love is that it doesn't feel like another generic hotel ballroom. The space has personality, warmth, and a sense of place that made our guests feel like they were part of something truly special. It created an experience--not just an event. If you're looking for a unique venue for a fundraiser, wedding, corporate event, or celebration, I can't recommend Wave Street Studios highly enough. We look forward to coming back again.

The cocktails (2 cocktails, 1 mocktail - unlimited per head) All of which were customized to our specs. We were incredibly impressed with them during our tasting. Everything tasted the same quality as it would be served in a restaurant; it certainly didn't taste like "wedding food" - and given how snobby we are about food, we were super impressed. They were really good about communication, too. And while the pricepoint wasn't cheap (~$38,000 for a 148 person wedding), we opted to go with Feast For A King. The Good: - Overall the food was very high quality, significantly above average quality for wedding food - Extremely communicative and easy to work with - Wait staff were amazing day-of! The Not-So-Good: - I would say the food was ~15% worse than when we tasted day of. While this may be expected for bulk food, for the pricepoint I was expecting closer to perfection - They ran out of one of the cocktails at one point, and needed to ship in more, causing a bit of a disruption with bartending service - The quality of the drinks definitely varied; several guests said that they ordered the same drink, but each of their drinks tasted different Overall really happy with them, and would definitely recommend!

On the day of the wedding, the three person team that worked that day were very professional and nice. Everyone had nothing but nice things to say about them and the food and drink. I had two delicious mocktails, one called "Snowtime spritz" and the other "Apple of my Eye". The second one was by far the favorite, but both were good. I forgot to mention that we also had a large cheese and cured meats board. Here are our menu selections: Petite Beef Wellingtons petite puff pastry filled with a bite of tender filet mignon & creamy horseradish sauce Wild Mushroom & Smoked Gouda Empanadas | V flaky & savory homemade empanadas with a dollop creme fraiche Mini Chicken Meatball Marinara Crostini pesto chicken meatballs with marinara, mozzarella, on a garlic grilled crostini Grilled Tenderloin Crostini with blue cheese, balsamic blueberries on grilled crostini I will end by saying that if we ever have another event at our house we will be using them again.
