But what impressed me the most is how thorough they are. My surgery, counting the initial exam, will require two more appointments and a medical release from my primary physician! The doctor was nice enough and prescribed me more antibiotics but told me everything I already knew about my chalazion. Now I have to call an ACTUAL Oculoplastic surgeon to remove my Chalazion and it's going to take a month longer than I thought it would.

Scheduling is a joke. They must be scheduling a patient every 5 minutes. No way are they going to make that schedule. One appointment was a 5 hour wait another 3 the shortest was around 1. Phone calls are just as bad. On hold 67 minutes and they say you can get a callback in order, 2 days later and if you can't take the call you have to start all over.

This was the greatest possible experience I could ever have. Both eyes came out 20-20, across all distances from 16" to infinity, with zero astigmatism. They started out about -3.5D nearsighted and up to 1.5D astigmatism. Absolutely awesome experience. I am a PITA about surgery. I research and question everything. Its sometimes hard for doctors to put up with me and my questions. Dr. Shumski not only did great work, but was gracious about my questions and called me 3 times to answer questions. I also got several email answers. I received full documentation about the surgery and all questions/concerns were answered. His staff and associates were also wonderful. From the receptionist to techs to ophthalmologist who reviewed my post-surgery progress. I cannot be more happy about the entire experience.

Yet when I arrived, they couldn't find my insurance in their system. After unnecessary back-and-forth, they eventually located it -- something that should have been handled before I walked in the door. It only got worse from there. Once they realized I needed a full eye evaluation and assessment of my scleral lenses, they informed me I had been scheduled with the wrong doctor. My options were to either wait another hour or reschedule entirely. Since I had already driven an hour each way, I agreed to wait. Then I was told the doctor only spends 20 minutes per patient -- and that if I actually needed scleral lens fitting or proper evaluation, I would have to come back on another day. At that point it became very clear: their priority was protecting the doctor's schedule, not providing patient-centered care. There was zero ownership of the scheduling mistake, zero attempt to accommodate the situation meaningfully, and no concern for the fact that I had invested two hours of driving time. Healthcare is supposed to be about patients. Instead, I felt like an inconvenience to their calendar. This was a complete waste of my time. She was able to resolve my concern, and went to get the doctor to complete my exam. Shortly after, Dr. Nowell came in and completed the exam. He was also very kind, and he confirmed that there were no additional concerns. Overall, I was so appreciative of my experience with this office. The doctor and his staff were compassionate and kind, and they performed a thorough exam that I was relieved about when we left.
