The BEST key lime pie I've driven over an hour to come here in the past.... No regrets

I was craving some pie and saw this sign that said Lisa's award winning pies. My first thought was hmmmmm, that must be a sign that I need some pie in my life. My second thought was, I will be the judge of these "award winning pies. The shop is located off the US-31 in Atlanta, IN. Yes, there is an Atlanta in Indiana. It is CASH ONLY, and there is really no ATM close by. I had to go to the Loves Truck Stop, which was about 7 minutes away. The shop has an adequate size parking lot and you are required to wear a mask to enter the shop. The inside of the shop has a vintage feel. After my journey to the ATM, which felt like an hour to me. I was like these pies better be worth it. They had pies, of varying sizes, in display case, some of which are self serve. I will admit they did look and smell delicious. After a brief deliberation I decided to go with a small Key Lime Pie, and a caramel pecan banana bread. So, it took over an hour to get home and then it was the moment of truth. First, the banana bread, then a day later the Key lime. I will say they were both amazing. Almost life changing. They were so good, that I am not even mad about them being cash only anymore. I highly recommend checking this place out. I know, I know....it is far, it is cash only, you have to put on a mask..., but it is all worth it. You just have to plan your trip there, so you are prepared. Next time I go, I will be stocking up on Lisa's treats like a squirrel stocking up on acorns in the winter. read more

My review of this place really isn't a fair one as I arrived a couple hours before closing time on a Saturday so there were hardly any pies or treats to choose from. I have passed this place a few times as I've traveled but never stopped and unfortunately this time I didn't end up getting anything so I'll have to make another stop some other time. The lady in the store was friendly enough but really wasn't overly talkative. I would've liked to have learned a bit more about the shop but maybe on my next visit I'll get a little more info out of her! Keep in mind when you do stop that masks are still required here. I was a bit surprised about that but luckily I dig thru my car and found one to put on. It is also a cash only establishment so definitely keep that in mind as well. We had passed Lisa's several times on road trips, and today was finally the day we were able to stop, and at the close of day we made it 2 min before she closed. Luckily she still had a couple apple pies (my favorite and a classic). I also purchased two pie-in-a-jars (peach and cherry) as well as her last two m&m cookies for the kiddos. The apple pie was so fresh it was still warm from the oven! Lisa herself was working and it was a pleasure to meet the award winning baker who is friendly and down-to-earth. I drive by here daily and it appears to me Lisa's is closed. Google says they're "temporarily closed." Yelp doesn't mention it. Her trailer is gone and no vehicles at all. I know she had health problems but, she made killer pies and quiches. It was all good. read more

Right off of US31 I've passed the pie shop a number of times. I finally made a point of stopping by before the holidays. It smelled divine, and there was an assortment of pies and dessert. We got a cinnamon roll and a lemon meringue pie. The pie was good! The crust was flaky and lemon not too tart, not too sweet. The cinnamon roll had a good cream cheese frosting. It just tasted a little hard and stale?! I was hoping that it would be soft and gooey. But alas, we had to heat it up in the microwave to soften it a bit. It was disappointing... it might have been better if they offered to heat it up for us? Or warn us that it wasn't immediately ready to it. It is also a cash only place-so beware. I would try it again just to give it another chance, but wouldn't go out of my way. read more

I am about to be crushed for this review and going against the current but I've had my fair share of sugar cream pie (it was even our wedding pie) and this encounter didn't leave me experiencing fireworks. 1.) I love the side of the road/inconspicuous setup of the shop. I've had this business bookmarked for quite some time so I was delighted that we were able to stop in before they closed one afternoon en route to Peru, Indiana. 2.) the crust left a lot of to be desired - it was tightly packed and lacked any particular flavor (not buttery or salty). It was more of a vehicle for the pie filling and not something you would be excited to eat on its own. 3.) had the customer service been a little more enthusiastic and engaged, I have a feeling I would feel more excited about this experience 4.) Heads up: their sugar cream pie leans on the egg-y/custard side 5.) cash only and they do not sell by the slice. read more

We love Lisa's so much but now live too far away to go...really at all. But if you're in the area or heading across Indiana, make this your stop. Buy a pie for yourself, buy another for whoever might be at the end of your trip. That way you get a reason to buy two pies. My husband and I, though...bought two pies just for us. Probably not the safest choice for two people with a sweet tooth problem. But these pies are special. I can't 100% remember the pies as this was a few years ago. All hail Lisa the pie queen! Lisa's Pie Shop is in the north side of Hamilton County on US31, not far after Wilson Farm Market (double up and visit both if you make the trek). It's a small operation with a gravel parking lot and basically grab & go. I've sampled her whole pies and her pies in the jar and all are outstanding - she has won national awards at the American Pie Council championships, and a whole wall of blue State Fair ribbons - one bite and you'll realize why. My favorite is the pie in a jar - shelf life of 8 months (stock up for yourself and fun gifts for the year), ready to eat room temperature or warm up in the microwave for 15-20 seconds. Amazing! This is really a carry-out place, so I won't say much about the decor other than it's sparse. Your really come here for the pies (duh....look at the name of the place). Lisa has won numerous awards for our pies (they are on display) and with good reason. They are not only delicious, but they are very reasonably prices as well. A full-size pie is about $8 and she also says miniature versions (about two-thirds the size) for about $6. There are also some ready-to-bake frozen pies in the freezer if you want to deceive your friends with your newfound baking prowess. Disappointed. I thought a place that specialized in pies would sell special pies. I ordered a fruit-flavored pie. If I did not know differently, I would have thought I was tasting a Kroger pie. After many failed attempts to visit, I finally made it to Lisa's Pie Shop and it was totally worth the wait. But I regret it took me so long to get there. The girl behind the counter was very friendly and super knowledgeable. She made excellent recommendations and had the best customer service! Also fairly priced for the pie quality (& the time you save not making it yourself)! The pie was perfect - flakey crust, the filling consistency was perfect, and the flavor was excellent! I love a good pie and I feel like they're hard to come by but Lisa delivered. I will be stopping by every drive I take song 31! Such a fun spot along the side of the highway, super excited when I can pull off to pick from the fresh baked pies. Strawberry rhubarb is delicious and all fruit pies are filled full of fruit, like the should be. Only wish crust were flakier, but love the pies, love the staff. Love it! After driving by this pie shop on several occasions and never stopping, I made a calculated effort to pull in for a Birthday Pie for my husband. I arrived around 11 am and found the bakery devoid of any of the "pie in a jar" products they offered. When I inquired was told they would be making them later in the day They had a total of 4 cream pies in the case, so I selected a chocolate. The meringue topping was beautiful, but that is about the only rave I can give this pie. The chocolate filling was comparable to a box of sugar free instant jello pudding. And the crust although flaky tasted as if they had forgotten to add a pinch of salt. I would not recommend you go out of your way (or even stop it is in your way) unless someone can convince me that it was only the chocolate pie that was tasteless. read more

An award winning pie shop with reasonable prices and a favorite of many, but not me. Their pies are made with a very, very thick crimped edge that dominates the pie experience; not my preference. Oh my! My Nephew and I stopped by today. We bought one of your sugar cream pies. Still very warm when we left. We got it home, sliced it up and WOW. It tasted just like my mom's. I do not say this lightly. In her prime my mother put Betty Crocker to freaking shame. The pie was solid, not to sweet, multiple levels of flavor and a very flaky crust. First time getting pies here. Thanksgiving pies. Service was great at the store and on the phone. Very busy the day I went to pick them up. First, banana cream pies need whip cream on top not meringue. Yuck. Then the 2 cherry pies were not good. Crust was good, cherries were good the filling was gelatinous and firm almost like bubbly jello. Usually the filling is smooth and runny. First time...last time. I never post bad reviews either but the desert was a bust for Thanksgiving. Maybe cherry is not their speciality cuz it seems like others had better experiences. read more

Lisa's Pie Shop has earned quite the reputation, but I don't understand how these pies have won so many awards. I've tried the 6" strawberry pie and the sugar cream pie on separate occasions and felt underwhelmed both times. I prefer the pie crusts of other spots around Indy and the fillings are so-so. Perhaps I should try the more traditional apple pie instead or another baked good on the shelves? Maybe third time's a charm? Stay tuned. read more

After passing Lisa's Pie Shop on a trip up to Amish country and seeing it closed, we made a point to make a Saturday of it, and visit tiny Atlanta, IN in search of delicious pies. Its a neat little place, in a converted gas station. Lisa has a nice story on her web page as well. We pull up to the gravel lot and see her fresh garden growing right outside. Local tomatoes are for sale on the honor code on tables outside the shop, and a sign that says now serving lunch posted on the door. Inside is a small haven of fantastic looking pies and other assorted desserts, including the famed pie in a jar. We chose a cinnamon bun, and picked out a berrylicious pie with an iced lattice topping. For my parents, I took home a fantastic looking dutch applie pie. The berry pie was full of various fruits and lots of crusty flavors. I found I had accidentally eaten half the pie in less than 24 hours... by myself. It wasnt too sweet, and not too stuffed, and had just the right amount of gooey filling. I thoroughly enjoyed this pie. The dutch applie pie was packed with apples and whatever makes it dutch... and was quite flavorful. The topping might have had a bit too much brown sugar for my preference, but that wasnt a problem. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and you have a real treat. Our cinnamon bun was nice and chewy, but again, I think it had too much icing on top for what was necessary. We did demolish this bun before we even left the parking lot, so I really cant complain. All in all, I enjoyed Lisa's pies. Would I make the drive up every weekend for dessert? Probably not. Would I go regularly though and bring home a pie for the week? Absolutely! Try it out, you wont be disappointed. My wife just today said she wants to try the peanut butter pie, so it sounds like we'll be heading up north again soon! read more

So disappointing! There were barely any selections so we settled on the strawberry pie. It was filled with what appeared to be large, ripe strawberries. Well now that I am eating the pie, I realize looks can be deceiving. The strawberries are not at all sweet. The strawberries I have from Kroger are better. The pie crust has no flavor. So my spouse and I have passed Lisa's Pie Shop countless times commuting in between Indianapolis and northern Indiana as this little shop is right of 31 north. My spouse kept hearing about the "pie in a jar" so a couple days ago we finally stopped in. The store front is small but they have a pretty good selection of fresh pies, frozen pies, and yes, "pies in a jar". We picked the peach pie in a jar and it was very good- a combination of peaches, pie filling and soft crust/dough in a jelly jar (they have both smaller and larger sizes). I'd recommend them if you need something to quick to take to a dinner with the fam or friends and you're on 31 just north of Indy. read more

If you are looking at the reviews and wondering if the sugar cream pie is amazing or mediocre then you should probably just try it for yourself. That's what I did, and I now realize that the people who claimed it was any less than perfect don't know what a sugar cream pie should be. This reminds me of my mammaw's sugar cream pie that I haven't had since I was young. You never forget the taste of a great pie. I have to admit the positive reviews of this establishment are completely lost on me. The pies we purchased while very overpriced were very underwhelming in taste. The even bigger disappointment we encountered was the actual customer service or I should say lack of customer service. I'm not at all happy. I purchased a butterscotch pie last Wednesday-it may as well have been named a "meringue pie", because that's basically all it was, with a minimal amount of filling. I also bought a small cherry pie-where was the FILLING? Judging by the appearance of the rounded top of the pie, you'd think it would be crammed full of cherries, like the store-bought Marie Callander's pies-guess again. More than half of what was supposed to be in this pie was empty air! I was sooo disappointed-what a cheap way to shaft the customer & make a bigger profit! I will wait until Wilson's is open for the season, and never again will I set foot into Lisa's. Good smells & smiles may be very nice, but when its a cover for cheating the customer, well, that ISN'T so nice, is it? I sure didn't get MY money's worth on this purchase! read more

Moment of honesty here--I haven't ever actually been in Lisa's Pie Shop, nor have I ever eaten a pie made here. The only thing I've ever had are the cinnamon rolls that I've picked up at the Carmel Farmer's Market (on several occasions). These things are so good that they warrant a 5-star review on their merit alone. First off, the size of them makes each one a meal (and honestly, what else would you want to eat?). And as we all know, a cinnamon roll is only as good as the cream cheese icing on it, and trust me, you will not be disappointed. This is the best cream cheese icing I have ever had the pleasure of tasting, and there are copious amounts on each roll. If the pies are even a tenth as good as the cinnamon rolls (and how could they not be?), they would be worth every penny. read more
