As a born and raised Omaha girl, anytime I return a visit to the Lithuanian bakery is always on my list. Was only in town for a short weekend so made sure to stop by early on a Saturday morning to go in and grab my torte. The location itself is very unassuming but just as I remember it from many years ago. Lots of parking, open space, a few baked goods in the cases and along the wall and small area for café seating if you're grabbing something to eat inside. That wasn't my mission that day though, and I went straight for the torte. The guy working was very nice, answered my questions, pointed me in the right direction and rang me up all in record time. The torte of course is always delicious and the hardest part is stopping yourself from eating way more than you should in one sitting. If for some unknown reason, you haven't stopped in and tried it yourself, I recommend going and grabbing yourself a slice, or a whole torte, next time you're in the area. read more

Yesterday I purchased the Neopolitan three cream torte for the first time as a trial. I typically get the torte with the apricot filling. However, I do hope they continue to make this tasty treat from now on because I would definitely get it again! Just a quick stop, because I'm always on the lookout for a source for Latvian black bread. They had several types of bread, including pumpernickel but I went with a basic sourdough rye. It's fabulous - dense, chewy, full of flavor - so even though it wasn't what I was looking for, I'd definitely be a loyal customer if this were home. I am going to bump up my review by a star. The fresh rye bread we got was pretty good. I like caraway seed and enjoyed it a lot (there is a LOT of caraway seed). I probably ate the entire loaf by myself in 5 days (and it was still softer than the "1 Day old Bread" we bought there). The Rye bread was definitely on the lot side...more of the mix you would get a grocery store but tasted better. Most of the color seemed from baking rather than from the flour. read more

Unless you've grown up with a Lithuanian grandmother like I did, you truly don't know what being fed is all about. I know, I know... Your German grandmother, or your Indonesian grandmother, or your Chinese grandmother... Trust me, I know they also took great pleasure in giving you more food then should be provided to an army battalion... but in my experience, and for the purposes of this review, you're gonna just have to take my word for it... heck, for a culture that refers to beer as skysta duona (liquid bread), IYKYK. Anyway, we found ourselves in Omaha the past couple of summers, road trip in across the country, and pit stopping at my brothers new home, to which he moved during the pandemic. as an aside, it's kind of funny the difference of what a couple hundred grand can buy in Omaha versus what it can buy in Southern California. (Spoiler alert: you can't buy a home for a couple hundred grand in Southern California) but it's always a pleasure to see my kid brother, his beautiful wife and my adorable nieces. As luck would have it, his home is only about a mile from the Lithuanian Bakery and Kafé. I made this discovery one morning heading out for donuts as a surprise for the kids, only to discover that for whatever reason, I had struck out on two different donut shops that were sold out early. In desperation, I stopped at this bakery, and it turned out to be one of the best things I've ever done in Omaha. The pastries, strudel, and other breakfast treats are divine. On subsequent trips, I sampled their Reuben sandwich... One of the best I've ever had... the braunschweiger, the kielbasa. Man, lots of awesome food here. The folks behind the counter are the type of awesome/kind/middle-of-the-country you would expect to find. I have not found a lot of ultra traditional Lithuanian foods on their menu, to be honest. Or maybe I just haven't been there enough? Haven't found Blynais or Kibinai or Šaltibarščiai... but maybe next time I'll ask if they can make them for me special? Like Nana used to.... I ordered a small vanilla apricot napolean torte from here through goldbelly. It was a bit expensive $70. But the cake was really good. it came refrigerated with gel ice. Layers of flour filled with sweet cream/gel. At room temperature it was slightly sweeter for me. Refrigerated, sweetness was perfect. read more

The strudel specifically- they've got a bunch of flavors and so choose your fighter and get ready for an adventure. Honestly, I bet everything gets kicked up a notch if you warm them up real quick in the oven, which I'm totally going to do after this review. The best part is is that it's SO affordable. I think a slice of strudel and the apple dumpling came out to be $2.75? This is a wonderful little place to have a very, very nice lunch. The staff there are so friendly and all of their products are so very, very good and really the prices are very decent. My mother and I love to go there for lunch and usually it's around $20-$25 for both of us to enjoy soup, a good sized sandwich and a beverage. Oh my goodness. This place is a hidden gem, and I wish I lived closer. Being Lithuanian, we always have napoleonas at family functions. Usually it was a relative who labored for hours and hours to create a delicious cake that would be devoured in less than five minutes. Once I found out that this place existed, I knew I had to try their napoleonas torte. It is DIVINE. Hands down, one of the best napoleonas tortes that I have tasted to date. Naturally, I purchased two tortes to take home with me- one original, one chocolate. Stopped by for something sweet after visiting Yamato Sushi next door. I've heard great things about their Napoleon tortes, but I wasn't looking to spend $4 for what looked like a really small slice. Instead, I grabbed a HUGE double chocolate chip cookie ($1.50) for my friend, an apricot log (50¢) and a slice of apple strudel ($1.35). The apricot log was interesting - chewy and covered in coconut shavings. Pretty good. But oh my god, the apple strudel was amazing. Doesn't seem impressive at first glance - like it looked like there was barely any apple filling, but it was the perfect amount. If you like flakey, buttery danishes and apples in pastries, you will love this. I am definitely grabbing more than one next time. read more

Best napoleon cake ever! I've moved out of state now, but every time I'm back in Omaha, I MUST stop by and grab a napoleon cake from here. LOVELY bakery staff, wonderful business, amazing cakes. Great deserts/baked goods. Better than homemade, because you don't have to make them.

First heard of this place from my pharmacist and after trying their signature torte, I cannot begin to tell you how much I've been missing out on. If you don't know what a torte is, crawl under from the rock you've been living under and try this now! The torte comes frozen and you need to thaw before serving 8 layers of happiness. It's the perfect amount of sweet and the vanilla butter cream and apricot jam complement each other so well! It's a little bit crumbly on the top, otherwise it has an overall dense, almost shortbread like texture. The tortes come in a large and a small size and they also sell individual slices for about $4/slice. Bring this to a party or home to your family and everyone will love you for it! Blown away by their torte, I also read their apple strudel is a winner and I must concur! I came with a friend who doesn't usually enjoy sweets and even he was nodding in approval. The inside has a custard like texture to it and wasn't overly sweet either. It's one of the best apple strudels I've had and for $1.35/slice it's a major steal! They also sell a whole strudel pan for $5.95 which I will probably get the next time I visit, along with a few of their other pastries! Also, here's a link to an article written about them! Ordering was very easy and there was even a discount coupon -- which I appreciate very much as still very expensive. I sent this to my sister in Colorado. We were born and raised in Omaha and our grandparents lived at the corner of 40th & Q for many decades so I am familiar with the Lithuanian Bakery. I pray my sister knows how special the torte (and she) is -- we've been estranged for many years. I will probably not hear from her but I am hopeful she and her family will enjoy it. Delicious!!! I was a little surprised how empty it was. The seating isn't fancy but it servers it's function. I was seated promptly. I ordered the Pastrami and Swiss with seasonal fruit. It was out in good time. The fruit was lovely and all fresh. The Pastrami and Swiss was bliss! So delicious! Portion size was just right. Seriously I'm surprised the place isn't packed. People do come and go for their pastries and bread, I didn't try either of those. We were greeted promptly by the 20-something gentleman with a warm demeanor behind the counter. I ordered a cheese streusel, my mom ordered an apple dumpling (?). Plus two coffees, that was $5.20. We went here for lunch but sadly discovered that they only serve menu items between 11-2:30, so we tried the bacon buns, rolls filled with bacon and fried onion, out of the display case instead, which were very tasty. They had soft light chewy bread dough with plenty of bacon for flavor inside. We also had an apple dumpling which had pleasing flaky pastry and tasty apple and, unexpectedly, cherry filling, and we had a poppy seed kolache, which was ok but not great. Maybe that's because it was the end of the day so sort of stale, or maybe we just discovered we don't particularly like poppy seed filling. But overall the experience was positive. read more

They offer mail order through Goldbelly. I ordered a chocolate raspberry tort, a cranberry bread and a rye bread. First, they mailed the wrong tort. I received the vanilla apricot tort instead of the chocolate raspberry tort. My wife is not a fan of vanilla so it was a waste. It tasted okay, nothing special. Both breads were stale. Heating them in the oven made no difference. BTW, I informed Godbelly about the problem with the order two days ago but they have not responded as of this review. read more
