We swung by River's Edge Café inside Prairie Flower Casino for a quick Saturday night bite, and let…read moreme tell you--it totally hit the spot. We wanted our food to-go, and the staff didn't even blink. Everything came neatly packed with utensils, making it super easy to grab and go. Honestly, whether you dine in or take it out, it's all served the same way--do with that what you will. We kicked things off with the chips and queso. The white queso had green chiles and just the right amount of heat, with a side of salsa that made it even better. Were the chips basically Tostitos? Yes. Did I care? Not one bit--they were still delicious. For $7, the portion was generous and perfect for sharing (or not). My husband ordered the Prairie Flower Burger and fries ($15), a double patty blend of ground beef and brisket topped with caramelized onions and your choice of cheese. He polished it off without a single complaint. It was hot, fresh, and exactly what you want in a burger. And the fries? Crispy, golden, and plentiful. I went with the club sandwich and house chips, and wow--that triple-decker meant business. For $12, the value was fantastic. My only tiny complaint? I wish they'd used full lettuce leaves instead of chopped--it got a little messy. But those house chips? Fresh, crispy, and borderline addictive. I'm officially hooked. Bonus points: you get a front-row seat to the casino floor while you wait. It's like dinner with built-in entertainment. Plus, the staff were all friendly and upbeat, which made the whole experience even better. The best part? We live just five minutes away, so everything was still piping hot by the time we got home. Their All Day Menu runs until 11 PM on weekdays and goes all the way until 2 AM on Fridays and Saturdays--perfect for night owls or anyone needing a late-night bite after hitting the slots. If you are a veteran, don't forget to tell them--you will get an extra 10% discount! I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu--and I've already got my eye on breakfast next time.

When I get the chance to sit somewhere for awhile, Astute is my first choice. It's generally quiet enough to read or study, and the pour over service is truly exceptional. The roasters they choose to work with are some of the best around. Astute's employees' commitment to serving their clients well and learning about the nuances of each coffee make for an excellent adventure each time. ++also, they carry Pettit's Pastries and you're gonna need to grab a donut while you're here. The branding and overall vibe feel intentional, and I genuinely appreciate their mission and what they're trying to build in Omaha. That part really stands out. That said, the coffee itself didn't quite hit for me. I ordered a seasonal latte and was excited for something distinctive, but the flavor felt pretty muted. It tasted more like a standard latte than something seasonal or layered. Not bad by any means -- just not memorable. I'd still come back to try something else because the space and concept are strong. I just hope the drinks lean a little more bold next time.

I wrote this on my Facebook about my experience while traveling from California:…read more Today I was at a super cute café and ordered breakfast. After a couple of minutes, I went back up to the counter and asked if they had already started making it, because I wanted to change my order. The kitchen was open, so I said to the cook, "Don't worry about it if you've already started. I know my indecision can impact people, and I don't want to be a problem." He looked at me and said, "No, it's totally fine. Would you like some veggies on the side?" "Yes, that would be amazing," I said, and walked back to my table... and burst into tears. It wasn't just what he said. It was the kind energy in his eyes. I felt someone who took pride in what he was making, and who genuinely wanted people to be happy. I found myself asking, why am I crying? Because in a world where so many people in power feel disconnected, where corporations can make us feel like numbers, being genuinely cared for in a small café reminded me how much I love humans. Most people have love in their hearts and are trying to share it in their own small ways. As the world cracks, these simple things are more meaningful than ever.

I ordered the Orange Spice Tea Latte, and it was absolutely delicious. I loved the zest the orange added, while being milky and having the perfect amount of spice. It was absolutely delicious, and I would return simply for this. I also tried the Chive Biscuit Sandwich, which was a bit dry but otherwise good. The parking situation was not the most ideal, but to be expected in this part of Omaha. I was able to locate a spot but it was a tight squeeze and across on the bridge, but I would come again.

In the earlier days, it seemed like some of the menu items were too salty or whatever. But once they got established I have been happy with the experience every time. This is a restaurant attached to a science museum (but it can be entered separately). I go to a lot of museums and this food is miles better than most food you can get at most museums. I like that they offer items from local businesses such as Lola (for baked goods), Grove (juices) and Fermented Felon kombucha. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Windows are huge with a great view of the river. They serve a good iced tea, which can be not so good at other places. Also a nice hot drink selection. I like to go for a walk across the river, then come here and relax with a brownie or a slice of sweet potato cake. There is an entry fee to the museum if you want to go...or you can just meander over to the gift shop for free. It's a really good gift shop, if you are a nerd like me.
