I came in while they were still open and I was told they were closed. I pointed out the time but I was still told they were closed. Mind you, I was with two women in their 80's. This is my new place that I've been talking up after my last visit. Pam was my server and was very nice and attentive . She recommended a dish that was eggs , pork, beans , salsa , and lettuce with tortilla chips that was phenomenal . I topped it off with a churro waffle that made my tough day much easier . As stated previously. They are consumed by doing tasks that allow them to leave. The chairs up on tables around guests who are still dining. Open now until 11:30. Chairs up at 11:06, broom and dustpans strewn across the room. The cleaning and money counting. The huevos ranchero isn't a traditional variety with a smooth red sauce. It's a plate of eggs and acidy pico. You can hear them making random commentary to each other about guests. "Did you see the face?" "see what did I tell ya" I've wanted to like this place and I have tried. It's tedious and unwelcoming. It's inhospitable. Trust and believe me, Strawberry Fair next door will welcome you warmly. This place came highly recommended by a coworker, and I never say no to Mexican. I was especially curious about their breakfast options. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros with the Chorizo add-on. The dish included refried beans, a little pico, some hash browns, tortillas, egg(s), and the chorizo add-on. This might seem like a cacophony of food, but everything came together quite nicely, was we'll balanced, and added a welcome variety. The execution was spot on and the quality was good. The hash browns were cooked perfectly, the refried beans we actually quite tasty (first time I enjoyed these). Embarrassingly I couldn't tell you if the tortillas were just warmed or made fresh, but no complaints there. Egg... the runny egg combined with the tortillas wonderfully, only I could not tell if there was one or two. Chorizo was a nice touch, but I'm a little disappointed it was only two tablespoons worth of diced chorizo. I would have preferred a whole link, or at least a more substantial portion. I also would have liked a little more Pico, as it was the only fresh element on the plate. It seemed a little more like a garnish rather than part of the dish. Likewise a little extra cheese would be nice. The service was great! Very nice and the food came out fast and fresh! Coffee was solid too, not the strongest stuff I've ever had, but they use Red Eye Roasters, which is great stuff. Now, I don't believe in huge portions for the sake of having huge portions. Still, I'm a stickler for value, and the price seemed a little high for what I got. So, solid food by itself is 4 stars, but combined with a slightly less-than-stellar value we arrive at an A-OK rating. I am curious to try their non-breakfast options, so I'll be sure to return and give them a go. read more

A couple of things about Little Carmens, They reconfigured the dining area to accommodate more seating so less waiting. Aside from the incredible menu, I love that Little Carmen's is about the only restaurant I will order eggs. I like them soft and a little under cooked. I get them there perfectly prepared. Today I discovered the Taco Omlet. To die for. Other than that not much has changed. Great servers, Surpurb food. Great coffee. As always. Oh, come fall Little Carnmen's will start serving lunch on weekdays. The best just keeps getting better. How does that happen? read more

This was our first visit after looking for a place for breakfast. Pam, our server, greeted us with joyful enthusiasm and our food was well prepared and tasty. Little Carmen's has served me almost as many breakfasts as I've served myself. They've become an extension to my dining room table. Of course, not now. We're homebound, and LC's has wiggled to and fro re: the viability of curbside biz. Well, they're in the full menu takeout zone daily from 7a-1p, and my family is ecstatic: my wife's fave Caramel Banana French Toast transports well, the kids love their eggs and mini corn muffins, and I have had the bursting breakfast burrito, the chilaquiles and the Pablos benedicts (shredded beef, goat cheese and cayenne hollandaise) and they all rule. Devastated I don't get the best part of the experience - chatting with the staff while crushing Redeye Roasters coffee - but so go the times. At least the amazing food is making me feel like I'm still at our usual booth. read more

Walked in at 11:15 am on a weekend day, sign says closing at 11:30 am. We frequent Little Carmen's often and have always enjoyed the food. That day we were turned away after hearing the staff talking in the back about serving us and then were told "sorry guys, we are closing " I felt the behavior to be unprofessional. The staff seem uninterested in doing their best to accommodate paying customers and we won't be returning to little Carmen's again. AMAZING food and 5-Star Service! I placed a (large) order for my sisters bridal shower (all the ingredients for a taco bar for 50+ people). I TOTALLY screwed up the time I told the staff at Little Carmens and they could not have been more kind, understanding, and accommodating. I requested the food for 12:00 but needed it by 10:00. On a super busy Sunday morning - because everyone loves them - they told me not to worry and got my large order ready in about 20 minutes, with a smile on their face. Not for a second did they make be feel like a burden or inconvenience and made what could have been a nightmare into no-big deal. I truly cannot compliment the staff enough. Everything was tasty and full of flavor, from the rice to the beans to the enchilada. But the thing that really sealed it for me was the crispy hash browns. SO GOOD!! We got the chicken enchiladas and chips with guac/queso/pico de gallo. This was our first time ordering and we got it to-go and I cannot wait to sample the rest of the menu. My husband and I really enjoyed meals here in the past, so while in the area, we went for lunch. There has been some changes, I see. We split a bowl of red chilli and I am glad we did. That was the only thing with flavor. The combo meals come with a cornbread muffin. One was overdone, the other was cakey, but crumbled apart when I picked it up, which makes me question when it was made. No taste of butter at all in the ingredients. The black beans strike me as out of the can because of the appearance of the beans and runny juice. When made fresh, the juice is thicker and some of the beans have split skin. When canned, they are cooked in the can with an acid as a preservative and there is a difference in texture. Which is why I like to go to places that actually soak and cook beans. The rice was okay, but could use a little seasoning and I don't mean salt. The pico de gallo was uneventful and I asked for extra cilantro. Sadly, it was unchopped and unwashed. It was very sandy. I got two tacos with crispy shells. One was fish, the other shrimp. Both fish and shrimp were overdone and dry. Shells were stale. I mean, how hard is to refresh them in the oven very briefly if you aren't going to fry them yourself? $45 bill, not worth it. I get it. The only competition is Taco Bell across the street and Plaza Azteca down the street. Both bleak options. And there isn't a lot of Mexican food on the south shore. So who's going to know the difference? read more

Don't go close to closing time! This place closes at 11:30 AM and apparently the chef will not be delayed in leaving. We were urged by our server at 11:15 to order ASAP as the kitchen was soon closing. We ordered 2 breakfast plates that arrived in less than 2 minutes and included a runny egg that was ordered over easy, presumably cooked in a big hurry. When we tried (before 11:30) to get a properly cooked egg we were told the chef shut the grill off! So my wife didn't have her egg, apparently due to some tyrannical chef. First time at this charming lil place. Huevos Rancheros with I think the best home made Ranchero sauce ever. Shredded crispy home fries a fabulous surprise addition. Visited for breakfast today, the food was enough to be a meal and was acceptable. The avocado toast was ridiculously overpriced (it was on a GF piece of toast) as it had less then a 1/2 avocado for close to $10. I have no recollection of what my wife got. I got the chorizo breakfast. 1st, don't get the cornbread muffin. It is tiny. It is 1 bite (2 bites if you are rationing) There is chorizo , but not enough to get a real flavor. You cannot just take a piece of chorizo. they are chopped very small. The coffee was weak. Use the correct amount of coffee to water ratio. You charge $3 for a 8 ounce cup. No excuse. None. Would I go back? I don't have enough data about the area and what the landscape is for breakfast. The staff on the other hand were SUPER nice. Which is a HUGE magnet to try again. read more
