We ordered a lot of plates to share and some cocktails, everything was pretty good. But some of it was pizza which seemed sort of basic. The best thing we had was a special - lobster pierogi. If they have that - make sure to get it, it was incredible. We also split a few pizzas - highlight being the clam one. That said, I have had this type of pizza before. I also found it to be very very dark in the restaurant and during a rainstorm, it was hard to see everything! I have to come clean - I have no clue what to say about Little Donna's. But I'll try to buss it down for you. TL;DR : Each menu item will pique your taste buds with how creative they are. They have staff that are experienced and friendly. The price does justify the quality and quantity of the food. I would recommend coming here for special occasions. This place can only be described as the embodiment of 'yeah see if that works' kind of dig. In what other world could you get, essentially, a pickled charcuterie board, pizza named pies, and grade friggin' A pierogies. Albeit the food itself felt like a melting pot of different cultures combining (i.e. pierogies had a Asian/European fusion flavor profile in my opinion), however each dish we ordered didn't feel out of place from one another. They definitely got the 'Mmmmm' factor out of me for sure. Let's start with their pierogies. My god, can they make a man cry. I have no idea what country of origin these things are from - but I do know the come from a place of love. These European-dumpling-like creation seemed to be pan fried, laced with the essence of onion and garlic, and smothered in zingy chili crisps and parsley. All this triggered my 'Mama Mia' neurons upon entry into my mouth. While an order comes with three pierogies, I do wish that it came with at least twenty. Biting into these is so satisfying as you come into contact with the subtly seared dough exterior and make way to the gentle chew of the interior. I BEG YOU TO TRY THIS ONE AT LEAST. When greeted with the pickled plate, I was confounded with their pickled carrots, beats, and deviled eggs. Personally, I have never found myself to be a 'pickled' person, but this dish may have changed my mind. All aforementioned inclusion provided with the pickled plate were delightfully tart with a bite satisfying to each vegetable. Finally, I had the tavern pie with figs and prosciutto. Not much I can really say about this but they struck gold with this combination. The pizza pie itself was topped generously with cheese while its crust and dough cooked satisfyingly crispy. The mild sweetness of the scattered figs were welcomed flavors as the strewn prosciutto imparted most of the savory and umami flavors through. A great tavern pizza overall. The community built around Little Donna's is wholesome to say the least. Located within Upper Fells, you can find familiar faces, well-known and friendly staff, and many dog visitors. I was very excited to finally try Little Donna's but unfortunately left very disappointed. We arrived early to our reservation and they were able to immediately seat us which was great. Cocktails were good, but our server forgot to put our order in so we had to wait a long time to get our food. She came back to our table to re-ask us what our order was since she never put it in. The lobster pierogis were phenomenal, but we did scarf them down since it was about an hour since we ordered and we were starving. For $36, I wish I had just ordered the normal pierogis. The catfish came out around the 1 hour and 30 minute mark, and while it was delicious we ate it so quickly because we were starving. We wanted to order another appetizer or a pizza, but we decided to leave and go somewhere else since the food was taking so long (we ended up going to Bar Alice Anne, their food was incredible and much faster!) This experience was really disappointing as we made this reservation to celebrate our engagement, which we put in the reservation notes and they fully ignored, and overall it was just not a great experience. Little Donna's lives up to the hype. Go to Little Donna's for comforting, flavorful food. I highly recommend making a reservation as this place has been in high demand since making it onto the NYT's restaurant list and Yelp's Top 25 Places to Eat in Baltimore list. As of now, the only way to reserve a table is by emailing them directly so it's a bit of a process - hopefully they set up reservations on Yelp soon. Once we got there, the inside was super warm and cozy. Eclectic decorations and vintage touches adorn the walls. The service was just as warm as the interior. Our server was kind enough to tell me about the gluten free options. To my delight, the fried pancakes on the menu were gluten free thanks to the chickpea flour they're made with. We also got the chopped salad, the scallops, and the chicken. It was a feast! The salad wasn't anything to write home about but the scallops were nice and tender and the chicken was extremely well marinated in a delicious sauce. The chicken also came with a slaw and beans that paired nicely. I wish I could have the famous pierogies and the pizza because both looked and smelled sooo good. I got to go here for my birthday after it came out in the New York Times. I was really excited to get some food and drinks after work. It was about an hour wait and we ended up sitting at the bar because that was what was available which was fine for my husband and I. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Little Donnas. We went on a weds and had a table in the dining room. We had several appetizers and thoroughly enjoyed them all but the pierogies were the clear winner. Drizzled in chili oil and topped with sour cream, they were simply delectable. We also really enjoyed the bobs chopped salad and the pickle plate. The cheese pie was very very good. We ordered the tomato pie and added cheese but this one was our least fave. I've had my eye set on Little Donna's since it first opened, but I just hadn't figured out a time to get out here. Finally, I emailed them to make a reservation and got one for 2 at 5 pm on a Saturday. We ubered here as parking is not great in the area. We were seated right away. It's a small place, but we didn't feel too squished. It was cozy and quaint. Our waiter was nice, good at his job, and quick. He informed us of the specials they had that day. They also do Happy Hour on Saturday's! From 5 pm - 6 pm. My husband ordered the Old Grandpa Tut (an earl grey infused bourbon drink) while I got the margarita ($7 happy hour special for the day). For food, we got the crispy cabbage pancake, the pierogis with sauerkraut and sausage, the schnitzel, and the Tavern Pie. We both loved out drinks. It was just a very well done margarita. My husband's drink had just the right amount of sweetness. The crispy cabbage pancake and the pierogis came out first for an appetizer. The pancake was SO good. It was piping hot, indeed crispy, and was just beautiful. The flavors worked so well together, especially with the greens on top. It had squash and broccolini on top, which we loved. The pierogis were delicious, but honestly, the sauerkraut and sausage was the best part. The sauerkraut was perfectly picky and sour while the sausage paired really well with it. We didn't plan on eating all of it, but we did. It was that good. The Tavern Pie and schnitzel came out next. The schnitzel was "drop everything and only ever think of the first bite ever again" good. I had a bite of everything in that first bite, and oh. My. God. It was super hot and crispy outside. My husband and I have been coming here for the last few years and have consistently enjoyed every time. The food is European inspired with American elements. The menu is simple and would be describe it as elevated comfort food. The pierogis are phenomenal and we get them every time we go. The food is fresh and high quality, and in our opinion over the years- consistent. The pizzas are delicious and are made tavern pie style, so do not expect the NY style that is common. If you like cocktails, they make great cocktails as well. Recently we got the Taco Tuesday - margarita with a twist, if you will, and I got the Old Grandpa Tut- an Early Grey infused bourbon cocktail. Both were lovely and well balanced. The atmosphere is cozy and unique. Full of vintage decor and nods to the midwest as the owner is from Indiana. This also means there is always Three Floyds beer, which is not too common at east coast joints. Overall we love it and will keep going and taking our out of town friends when they visit. They also bake five different kinds of pies (pizzas). We ordered the soup of the day (clam chowder with bacon), pierogies, plate of pickles, two Tavern pies, and a cheese pie with a side of the tomato hot honey sauce. Everything was delicious! And that tomato hot honey sauce is worth getting again! 2) Drinks: With a cocktail, large beer, and wine list, I ordered the Pomegranate Lemon Crush. We decided to see what the buzz was about and visit on a Saturday. Knowing the challenge of getting a spot we showed up at 4:55 to get in when they open. We were 15th in line. We were able to grab the last 2 bar seats (our preferred) and ordered 2 beers. We then ordered the perogies w Ostrowski's sausage and kraut. Serious comfort food the was yummy good. We thought we might be too full for the Tavern pizza w sausage and peppers. Wrong. The pie had thin crust and great blend of cheese and was incredible. We polished it off and wobbled our way home. I love Little Donna's! I've been here twice now and have loved my experience both times. The first time I came was before the NYT article haha, but I didn't notice any difference in quality of food and service! The space itself is so cute and homey and it just makes you feel so comfortable. Servers have always been really friendly and helpful, especially when providing suggestions. The pierogi (4 pc) were deliciously homemade, fried so the edges were crispy, filled with potatoes and doused with sour cream, hot chili oil, and topped with parsley. Must get! The smoked trout came as a spread on top of toast. The smoked trout was absolutely delicious! Wish it came in a gallon tub that I can take home. The tavern pizza was nicely sized and thin crust. Our server first of all, was so warm and welcoming and he was so awesome in recommending popular dishes, chef specials, and wines! The food was incredible I actually was a little speechless trying the spinach krokiety! How have I never written a review for this place. I have loved Little Donnas since they opened summer 2022. I went for my bday dinner a few years ago and come back at least once a quarter for their Wednesday specials (iconic clam pie) and for fun dinners. I am so sad they don't have the little coddies anymore but they are doing fun pizzas - think persimmon, figs and lobster perogies. Last year it was a bit hectic to get in as they were written up by the NYT as the top 50 interesting places to eat in the US. Now they do free up a lot of tables and welcome walk ins - you don't have to wait too long, and you can find other little taverns to drink beforehand. They offer some outdoor seating but it's mainly indoors. It's a rowhome feel restaurant but the tenders are friendly. I've always been very happy with the meals here even if some are a miss - I love what Robbie is doing in Baltimore with Little Donna's. It's eastern European fare with a lot of pizzas. Found this place because of Yelp - IT IS TERRIFIC! I stopped by, only moderately hungry, so ordered two apps. Both were beautifully presented - just gorgeous to look at. And both were delicious. We tried Little Donna's on a Wednesday evening. There was a little wait but not bad. The bar area was available and we decided to hit up a high top. They seemed busy and told us it might be a wait. We did wait a little for both a server and our drinks. The decor was old timey but in a great way. Music was playing but not overpowering. Very lively atmosphere. The small place had character and charm. We ordered a salad, crab palacinke, the pierogis, and the pickled plate. The dishes were good but not knock your socks off fantastic like we had heard. The salad was good, the crab palacinke was cheesy, but had a weird texture, the pierogis were good but needed salt, and the pickled plate was average and the beets were the best thing on the plate. I got a dirty martini and the olive tasted a little off. All in all the meal was ok. I was expecting more. I would stop by for a beer and some pierogis. We went here for my Mom's birthday after seeing it written up in the New York Times. It's a great neighborhood spot, if I lived in the area I'd definitely come often. It feels very homey and the food plays homage to the owner's grandparents. For appetizers we got the soup of the day, the smoked Carolina trout dip, and the crab palacinke. We thought all three were great, and the palacinke might be one of my favorite and most memorable appetizers I've had in awhile. We got a half cheese pie/tavern pie and the pie of the day (a white pizza with persimmon), which we were less impressed with than the appetizers. Not bad but also nothing special. The service was really great as well- our server was just so patient and welcoming and helpful. Now for the food- we got the pierogi just regular, and I thought they tasted a little bland. The filling was potato I think, and maybe I just don't understand pierogi, but to me I thought they would be slightly better with a tad more salt. The pizza I got was the tavern pie. We each wanted to order a plate of pierogis but he suggested we split one and split another dish like a pizza because the pierogis are pretty "heavy". We took his suggestion and thankfully so! From the wallpaper and pictures on the wall, to the furniture and upholstery that is unapologetically shabby chic, this place lives up to the home style cooking vibe. Recommended if you are down for filling Polish food in Upper Fells. We walked in on an early weekend afternoon and were able to get a seat without a reservation, but it is a small place so reservations are recommended for a weekend dinner. We started with a tasty cabbage pancake which is like an Eastern European version of a Kimchi pancake and very tasty. I got the pierogis with chili oil and brats and sauerkraut. They were amazing, crispy outside with soft mashed potatoes and although don't look like much, they were super filling and I needed a doggie bag.
