The issue we ran into was my son was in a stroke specific class and they rarely worked on that stroke. The other draw back was there were two kids in that class that were extremely disruptive and the coaches ignored it and the parents did as well. I just didn't feel like I got much out of it at this point but would highly recommend Swim Kids to others if you are looking for a professional swim school and want your child to learn the strokes correctly.

They do offer basketball and other fitness options. The location is off the beaten track a few miles from the highway on a narrow road. Jeff Rouse is in a housing community. The financing was unique coming from mostly private funds. However, local tax dollars were used and continue to be for its maintenance. It was completed around 2016 timeframe. The surface parking lot offers adequate spaces for large events. The venue offers one of the most spectator friendly views in Virginia for swimming competition. Spectator seating for 800 is on the deck. The pool is a 50 meter movable bulkhead. There is also a 25 yard recreational pool that's used for warm up/cool down during swim meets as necessary. The pool temps were correct and air temps comfortable. Air quality good. The deck space is narrow which is a drawback. Lighting is excellent. A big positive is that pool and decks are immaculately maintained. The staff was great to work with. The pool is frequently used on weekends for USA club meets. So keeping it up takes a lot of effort. I hope to visit again in the near future, but currently do not have on my schedule for 2020. Jeff Rouse is a great facility and the local community of Stafford is lucky to have such a wonderful swimming pool to run competitions.

While I appreciate the facility's commitment to safety, I believe this policy may benefit from review in certain circumstances. My five-year-old is slightly under 48 inches tall and is a capable swimmer but he was still given a yellow bracelet because of his height. During our recent visit, a staff member (she seemed to be the one in charge) told us about the arm's length requirement while my son was playing in the shallow toddler pool area, which only reaches ankle depth. I fully support close supervision requirements in deeper water or for infants and young toddlers. However, the current policy creates some practical challenges in the toddler pool area: 1. The shallow depth of the toddler pool presents minimal risk for older children who can swim. 2. Multiple parents attempting to maintain arm's length proximity in a confined space leads to congestion and difficulty navigating around one another. Which can make things even more difficult trying to keep an eye on your child and your child's constant movement when you have a parent in front of you trying to keep an eye on their child. 3. The policy becomes impossible to enforce when children use the toddler play structure and mini slides, where parents cannot physically maintain arm's length distance. Maybe some parents can fit going up the structure, but we certainly cannot fit going down the slide. We would have to go back down the steps of the play structure and then try to get to our child who most certainly is farther away from us because kids do not sit still. I believe a modified policy that considers both the child's swimming ability and the water depth would better serve families while maintaining appropriate safety standards. Perhaps children who demonstrate swimming competency could be permitted greater independence in ankle-deep water, while maintaining stricter supervision requirements in deeper areas.

Also, please, be very careful when you come and go. Every single time I have been there, someone has slipped and/or fallen on the facility's wet floors in the entryway. No cash is accepted...you will need to pay electronically. Lap swimming (link) is available by reservation only Monday - Thursday (drop-ins are permitted on a space-available basis but be aware that the lane you pay for may be shared with another swimmer). During this COVID-19 pandemic, you are required to use the app to reserve weight room, Group gym classes, and pool swim lanes. They are still offering group swimming lessons at $65 for members and non-members $75. They offer private swim lessons as well. I'm still waiting for them to open up the hot tub though. I'm excited for that after postworkiuts.

Due to this black algae is forming on the windows, ceiling, pool floor, binders and papers. The pool staff including lifeguards and instructors are in this area all day. Not only that, the Y has not publicly told its patrons yet about the algae yet which can cause serious health issues. Especially for the elderly and young. Not only has the staff not informed the members, but they have not informed their preschool families who go swimming every Friday. And went swimming the Friday before winter break. I feel the members and the families of these preschool students have a right to know what's going on so they can decide if they want to use the pool currently or wait till the issue is fixed.

Everything is clean. Pool area isn't ventilated well and needs fans. It's more humid inside than out on a hot day. They also have minimal seats with broken chairs if you're a bystander. There are three lifeguards on duty which makes you feel secure in the size of the play area, some of them however have their feet kicked up and are talking to each other on walkie talkies so not sure how much attention they are paying to the kids. The kids had lots of fun inside and outside. Loved going down the big slide and playing in the water area. Security was sent to remove me from the pool after being told that I had "snuck in," which was completely untrue. As a Black guest, the way I was treated felt discriminatory and deeply upsetting. The situation escalated into an unnecessary conversation with both management and security, which could have easily been avoided if I had been treated with respect and fairness from the beginning. No guest should have to go through that. On top of that, the facilities were far from impressive. The bathrooms were dirty and poorly maintained, seating was extremely limited, and the overall condition of the property felt neglected. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this establishment. Guests deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of who they are. I left feeling embarrassed, frustrated, and extremely disappointed.
