A True Gem in Early Childhood Education…read more If you are looking for a preschool where your child is truly seen, loved, and inspired, look no further. The owner, Sherri Berry at The Berry Patch, is a total gem. She is incredibly caring and compassionate, but what sets her apart is how she perfectly balances a nurturing heart with true kindergarten readiness. She has a unique gift for making learning feel like an adventure. Sherri doesn't just teach; she engages their imagination with brilliant hands-on activities like "catching clouds" and nature scavenger hunts. She even brings literature to life--my kids still talk about the day they ate real Green Eggs and Ham! Most importantly, she ensures they are socially and academically prepared for kindergarten. She teaches them how to be good friends and confident learners. My biggest piece of advice to parents: Do not rush to leave for Transitional Kindergarten (TK). One of my biggest parenting regrets was enrolling my younger son in TK as soon as it became available. I wish I would have kept him at The Berry Patch for another year. The difference was night and day. In TK, he was placed in a much larger class and received significantly less one-on-one attention. He missed out on the personalized, magical experience he would have had if he stayed in Sherri's care for that final year. Sherri provides a level of dedication you simply won't find in a large public school setting. If you have the chance to enroll your child here, take it -- it is the best gift you can give them!

Then a friend referred the same pre-school and it ended up having an opening. Miss Sherri is a true gem to kids. She literally puts first time parent's hearts at ease when dropping off for the first time. When it came time for TK, we made the decision to keep her at JOC rather than send her to our local public school, and we are so grateful we did. The care, attention, and heart that Ms. Alecia, Ms. Elaine, and the entire team pour into these children is truly hard to find. Over the years we've watched our daughter grow tremendously--socially, emotionally, and academically--and we know she is more than ready for kindergarten. Beyond the learning itself, there is something really special about this community. It's so evident how deeply the teachers care for the children and families and how much of themselves they pour into making JOC such a loving place. We truly can't say enough wonderful things and are so grateful for our time here.

JOC is loving, nurturing, and educational in a way that goes above and beyond what we expected from a preschool. What brought us here primarily was meeting older children who had attended and exhibited amazing social skills and who played so kindly with our younger son. Also, their schedule. Our son stopped napping at 2.5 and was having to nap or have quiet time for 2+ hours at such an early time at every other school. This school does their full programming until 2 pm every day then just does an hour of rest from 2:30-3:30. (We don't do the extended day option and pick him up at 2:15, so he's there from about 9-2:15). That's so much more appropriate for his development and age, and is so much better for us as parents than most preschools offer. It's the perfect balance for us. They've also been so accommodating and wonderful in helping us choose the right schedule and days of week for him to attend. In the year he's been here, he has absolutely blossomed and come to love school. He is learning concepts and skills that I'm realizing many children don't encounter until kindergarten, and we're so proud of the knowledge, work, and projects he brings home each day. I only wish we had started him here sooner, and I am genuinely sad as we approach graduation. The school is run by twin sisters who are true gems -- kind, dedicated, and deeply invested in every child. Alecia and Elaine create a warm, family-like atmosphere where each child is seen, valued, and loved. They tell the children daily how special they are and how much they are loved, and I've seen his confidence and heart grow as a result. The entire teaching team has been wonderful and steady, which speaks volumes about the culture they've built. I especially appreciate the mixed 3-5 year old classroom model. The older children learn leadership and compassion, while the younger ones are inspired and supported. It has been such a gift for our son's social and emotional development. The style and format of the program truly fit him and have helped him thrive. They also have a well organized program and schedule with lots of time outdoors. Lunch & snacks are also provided, which is so helpful for us. He rarely ate his lunch when I packed it for him before, but eating the same thing as everyone else together ensures he is nourished every day. Communication with parents is excellent. We feel included, informed, and welcomed to provide feedback or ask questions. There are really beautiful, big events and meaningful opportunities for parent engagement, which has helped us feel connected to his school life. They just did a sweetheart coffee with daddy's and it was so precious - they learned sweet songs and had a beautiful moment in appreciation of dads and dad stand-ins. Their Christmas show was also spectacular. We still sing many of the songs they learned. They also do a field trip walk to the park day and several events that allow for parent participation in fun and balanced ways. After touring and trying many preschools across Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park, and surrounding areas, we can honestly say this one stands out in every possible way. We commute 20 minutes each way, and it is absolutely worth it. I truly cannot recommend this school highly enough. It has been a beautiful, foundational chapter in our son's life, and we are so grateful for the love, education, and joy they have given him. Thank you, thank you our hearts sing! We're truly grateful for everything

He was constantly upset at pick up and when we got home he would refuse to be put down. Multiple times we were asked to pick him up because he would not stop crying. We realized he was not receiving the care and attention he needed to grow as well as his needs weren't being understood. Needless to say after that experience we incredibly hesitant in placing him anywhere else. I found Cadence Academy online and decided to take a tour of the facility and was luckily enough to meet some of the staff as well. We decided to move forward with going here. We enrolled him at Cadence Academy at the beginning of September and he's come so far under the care of the amazing staff there. His teachers Ms. Kristina, Ms. Liz, Ms. Emily and Mr. Bran have been absolutely wonderful with him and assisting him with his adjustment to daycare. They are patient, understanding, kind and caring. Everyone works together as a team to help each other with all the kids. Even the director, Rebecca steps in as needed as does Jeannette. Everyone is so communicative and provides updates on his day during pick up. We also love the schedules the kids have and they release a monthly calendar with different events for the month (this week is spirit week and I love it!). This I believe really will help my son with getting used a regular school setting when the time comes. Not to mention we get a weekly food menu for the kids as snacks and lunch are provided. The staff also use an app to communicate with parents and provide daily updates as well as pictures! We get a weekly update on what the kids did for the week. I love seeing the updates and seeing my child learn. The tuition at Cadence Academy is more than fair considering everything they do and provide. It's true when they say, you get what you paid for! My child attended this preschool from August to December 2024, and as a parent of a child on the spectrum, I was hopeful and optimistic about his experience. I communicated my son's struggles with new environments to Jennifer, who assured me that everything would be fine. While my son did have a challenging start, after three weeks, he began to adjust and thrive. We received weekly pictures and kind messages from Jennifer, which reassured me during tougher days. However, a few months in, I noticed unsettling changes in my son's behavior. As any parent of a child on the spectrum knows, regression can happen for various reasons, and I initially attributed it to illness and the challenges of being around new peers. I tried to address these behaviors at home, relying on strategies I learned from his previous occupational therapist. Then, an alarming incident occurred. After picking him up one day, my son revealed that a classmate--whom we'll refer to as Student A--had hit him. When I asked if he informed the teacher, he said yes, and described how Student A could be both nice and mean. I didn't think much of it at the time, believing the teachers had handled the situation. But then, on December 29, everything changed. My son came to me in distress, saying that Student A was bullying him, throwing things at him, and even touching him inappropriately. He confided that he hadn't told me sooner because he feared that Student A would come to our house and harm us and our dog. Shockingly, he said this threat originated from his teacher. My son was in turmoil, hyperventilating and terrified of the repercussions of speaking out. This incident has fundamentally altered my son's ability to play and interact with others, not only at school but even at the park. We immediately brought this to Jennifer's attention, as well as to our son's doctor. While Jennifer initially reached out, I later sent her a detailed email outlining the entire incident, yet to this day, I have not received a response. I filed a report, but the unfortunate reality is that the young ages of the children involved make it difficult to pursue any action--especially when the teachers deny any wrongdoing. It's disheartening and infuriating. My son has been profoundly affected by this experience, requiring therapy and now grappling with trauma that could have been prevented. I urge parents to carefully consider their options when selecting a preschool. Ensure that your child will be protected and supported. My son deserved better, and no child should have to endure what he went through. Please, take this into account when making your decision. Your child's safety and well-being depend on it. I'm also willing to show anyone proof of the messages that were sent back and forth to Jennifer ( the messages contain more details of the incident that happened)

This place really is surprisingly effective at building kids' confidence and physical endurance…read more It's intense exercise but the kids LOVE it and are obviously having a blast. Of every class or sport my kid has ever done, this has been his absolute favorite (It's been one of my favorite activities he's done, as well!). The coaches are super positive and keep it high energy. It's only 45 minute classes (I wish they were an hour) but they don't waste any of the time. Even during their water breaks they have an activity or video on the screen that teaches confidence building skills. The coaches are very friendly and encouraging to parents , as well. My only complaint is that there often isn't enough instruction on proper form. Kids are frequently using bad form. There are only 2 instructors for the class so they can't help every kid for every activity, but there needs to be more live assistance on proper form. (I will say that I provided this feedback via a survey and the following week the coaches made a noticeable effort to help my kid with form, so they are very receptive to feedback, which is very rare these days). Every single coach there acts like they love their job. I'd think they'd have to have a passion for working with kids in order to do this job, but nonetheless, I love their business model attitude. (I was actually very hesitant to sign up as I had seen them at various festivals, and it seemed like a money grab. But after attending a single trial class, my kid was hooked, and it was evident that their entire business model revolves around building confidence in kids). I can't recommend them enough!
