    Flamingo Gardens

Flamingo Gardens is one of our favorite places in South Florida. Honestly, I'd even call it a…read morepeacock garden because there are so many of them wandering freely throughout the property. I especially love visiting during the winter months when the weather is cooler. It's the perfect time to slow down, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and have a little picnic with the kids. There are plenty of peaceful spots to sit, relax, and watch the peacocks walking around. The grounds are always clean, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. When you buy your tickets, you can also purchase bird food. We fed both the flamingos and the peacocks, and while it was a fun experience, here's my little tip--don't feed the peacocks from your hand unless you're ready for a pretty strong peck! I learned that one the hard way. There is also a small café, guided tram tours, and on weekends they often have live music, especially in the evenings or during holiday events. Around Christmas, the gardens are beautifully decorated with lights, making the whole place feel even more magical. If you're looking for a relaxing day surrounded by nature, Flamingo Gardens is definitely worth a visit.

The care and compassion shown to the animals is evident throughout the entire property. Many of the animals at Flamingo Gardens have been rescued and given a second chance, with the ultimate goal of rehabilitating and releasing them back into their natural habitats whenever possible. Their dedication to wildlife conservation and education is inspiring and makes every visit feel purposeful. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the staff and volunteers are knowledgeable and passionate, and the experience is both enjoyable and educational for visitors of all ages. It's wonderful to see an organization so committed to protecting Florida's native wildlife while creating an engaging experience for the community. Flamingo Gardens is much more than a botanical garden--it's a sanctuary, a conservation center, and a shining example of what can be accomplished through Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Release. I highly recommend supporting this incredible organization and experiencing it for yourself.

The place is TINY but I heard they are expanding, which I am super excited to hear that they are! The owner was super friendly and was making sure everyone was able to walk around and look at the shelves when they were trying to find something interesting, like me. Prices were pretty good and I like that each book has the cost on the first page when you open the book. There were some beautiful first editions that I was tempted to buy if I had the fund for. There was truly something for everyone because they had so many different books in different genres and that was one that I really appreciated because I found a few different things I didn't know I was looking for!

On the…read moreoutside, there are a few bookshelves with a variety of cheap books that you can actually buy after hours and put the money in the mail slot to pay for them. Inside, it feels like you're transported somewhere magical. Books literally line everywhere you go and I loved being able to crane my neck all the way back and see books going upwards towards the roof. It is easy to figure out the sections, they have history, art, literature and a variety of other genres to look around at. I found a old edition of The Silence of The Lambs and had to buy it. The book was in very nice condition and very reasonably priced for what it was! I will say, if it's busy like it was when I was there, you will have to scooch past people multiple times because the two rows of books are basically only large enough for one person standing sideways. A gorgeous and reasonably priced bookstore that you need to see in person to truly appreciate it like I did!
