Little June has been on my list of cafes for a long time, and I'm so pleased I finally got to experience it! We were passing by and decided to take a break before getting back on our bikes. Little June is a charming coffee shop serving breakfast, brunch, and pastries/baked goods. Fernwood coffee is also available here. We ordered an iced latte and an iced London fog. My particular favourite was the iced latte. I believe they utilize Earl Grey powder for their London fog, and I was pleasantly pleased by how wonderful it tasted. It was unusual because I was not used to the powder but rather the tea bags. The host at the cashier was really kind and provided wonderful service. They have tons of seatings. I loved how open and airy the space was! I'll have to try their brunch the next time I visit. I highly recommend this cute little spot!

A solid spot with its own distinct vibe and an impressively long menu…read more Great for groups since there's something for everyone, and the portions are generous. Almost too much for one person. One thing that stood out: unlike most diners that only offer one brewed coffee option, this place lets you choose between regular and dark roast. Small detail, but appreciated. I went on a weekday morning, so there was no wait, but the space isn't very large, so I'd recommend making a reservation during peak hours. Staff were friendly overall, and the atmosphere is worth experiencing. That said, while the food was consistently solid, it wasn't particularly memorable. I ordered the Valentino, smoked salmon and poached egg on an English muffin with avocado, but the avocado was completely unripe, which brought down both the texture and the flavor. With a menu this wide, most dishes land in the "good" rather than "great" range, and execution details like that make a difference. If you're going for variety and the overall experience, you'll be satisfied, but if you're hoping for something exceptional, it may feel a bit underwhelming. Bottom line: a reliable brunch option for groups, as long as you're not setting the bar too high on the food itself.

I loved the spacious interior with the retro diner aesthetic. I loved how it opens at 7am and has a lot of breakfast options, and all are reasonably priced. I love the booths, the soda counter, the chalkboard message board with daily specials on it. I love the cheery and attentive server we had. And, lastly, I love the food here! (I was here for breakfast and my eggs and bacon were EXACTLY how I ordered them, and they also made me a fantastic iced vanilla latte, too). The restaurant and the bathrooms were super clean, too (bonus!). I checked out the extensive menu and realized, heck, I should have come here the day before for lunch. They have so many sandwiches and burgers available. Just wow. IMO this place would be perfect for breakfast or lunch, or a late night snack. (I think they're open until 9pm). If you like traditional diner fare, this is the place to be, for sure.

I was honestly shocked by how good the food was. I had initially assumed it might be a spot primarily for tourists, but a dear friend of mine who is a local mentioned that people in Victoria actually love coming here. She even noted that some friends from her children's school were there just the night before for an alumni weekend. The menu absolutely exceeded my expectations. I was blown away by the fish and chips; the fish was moist with a light batter and wasn't oily at all. The burgers, Irish stew, and shepherd's pie were all delectable as well. The real standout, however, was the sockeye salmon in a pesto preserved lemon broth--it was so addictive that I wish I could replicate the recipe at home. It is very easy to see why this spot has received so many accolades, and I would love to return the next time we are back in Victoria!

Buuuut, I finally got to come back here this past weekend and it was like coming home. It had the same comfort-style breakfast foods and the quality was exactly the same, maybe even better (although I could have been biased since I missed this place so much). I usually stick to my usual traditional breakfasts (sausage, egg, bacon, check!), however, whenever I came to Urban Cup, I was trying something different. Whether it's their breakfast or lunch menu, you can't really go wrong. They have a soup + sandwich special that changes daily, and every time it's looked delicious! It's hard to pinpoint what my favourite dish is here. It might be a tie between their hashbrowns (home-style pan fried) or clam chowder. But like I said before, everything on this menu is delicious. What's really nice about UC is that you order and pay right when you walk in, seat yourselves, and the food gets brought out to you. So when you're finished you can take your time and leave whenever, without trying to get your server's attention to pay your bill. It's a bit of a hidden gem really, overshined by the more popular brunch spots like Jam and Blue Fox, but if you're looking to avoid the long lines, pay for a (cheap) amazing breakfast, and don't want to go downtown, then come here. You won't regret it.
