I've been wanting to try a smoked salmon eggs Benedict for a while but was hesitant if I would like it so I tired it here for the first time and it just wasn't my thing but that's on me. However the hollandaise sauce wasn't super good. I've had good hollandaise and this was not the best. The breakfast sandwich was good. Only complaint there was we ordered it without tomato and it came with tomato. The potatoes were SO good and the green sriracha was really good too! Don't love the warm sauce, it's too Smokey like over powered with liquid smoke. The POS could use an update, it was a little confusing, thought the tip was dollar amount but it turned out to be percentage amount. Great place to grab breakfast. Menu has so many good looking options it was difficult to choose. Ended up with the Brisket Hash and it was amazing. Great combination of smokey brisket with sweet and some heat. Had two eggs over easy on top and it was a perfect breakfast. Nice add that the hash is gluten free. A most pleasant experience. Following the recommendation of another Yelper, I tried the beef brisket hash. The portions are generous, I didn't finish. The beef is tender and tasty, and the eggs! They must source these locally. Just look at the colour of the yolks! Perfectly cooked. The hollandaise was nicely acidic, and not overly rich. The hash had a great mix of crunchy and soft. I've ordered take out from this place twice and both times the food was amazing! We had breakfast. The service is also excellent. I as trying to order looking at the menu form Yelp which apparently is an old one and they no longer serviced this particular dish. The person who picked up the phone was patient and when I said I need to look at the menu again and I'll order via ubereats, she said I could just call again and she'd be happy to take my order. It's really little things like these that matter. The place itself looks adorable. But unfortunately we were always in a rush and got take out instead. Love the Ruby on Douglas. They have confit duck hash! Both places have some pretty strong coffee ..... Hmm ... I can live with that. But I recommend that you do not order an omelette at the downtown location. It is served in some kind of weird puffy egg pancake that is folded over. It is the most anemic looking omelette I have ever seen. Not browned nicely in butter or a bit of bacon. Just .... Pale and flavorless. And it's so puffy (congrats on that, I guess) that you can't get a nice fork full of the whole cross section of omelette. Never seen anything like it. I finally scraped out the filling and had that with my toast. And the staff at the Douglas Street location always seem super friendly, happy to see you, chatty, good sense of humor. We were visiting Victoria on a Wednesday so there was no line up for brunch! They were still fairly busy though. I had the Smoked Beef Brisket Eggs Benny and it was served on a flaky croissant! The beef brisket was very tender and came with a nice BBQ sauce. I had the eggs soft poached and they were perfect. My friend had the Breakfast Tacos that I didn't try but they were pretty stuffed and she said they were good. Both dishes came with home fries that were very crispy. Food- This is a pretty good lunch stop for some beef brisket or rotisserie chicken dishes! I would say it's pretty good, but nothing too special foodwise. We ordered the rotisserie chicken soup, chicken salad, and beef brisket tacos. Note: they do prepare their rotisserie chicken in a special way and it comes from a farm a few hours from Victoria! Determine to avoid the frigid cold. I came downstairs to order breakfast to go and eat in my hotel room. Sooo good! Scrambled eggs cooked easy. Thick cut bacon. And fried potatoes with rye/pumpernickel bread. Service was super friendly as I walked into this restaurant pajama clad just as they opened. Ordered my breakfast to go and it was packed so nicely in a to go container. I was offered a tray for my oj and coffee. The eggs were cooked perfectly "easy", not runny. The potatoes so good and fried. The bacon was super thick and crispy! The green salsa was so spicy. But delicious. Black coffee hot and fresh. I'd like to come back and try their mimosas next time. Three words for you. Beef brisket hash!! It's a hearty breakfast, but do yourself a favor and get this. This place doesn't have a lot of reviews on Yelp, so I thought it wouldn't be too crowded when my friend and I walked up around 9:30 on a Sunday morning. Of course, it was hopping and there were a couple of groups in front of us. We waited about 20 minutes which isn't too bad. There's plenty of seating inside, and each table is divided by plastic screens. They offer both brunch and lunch items, but I went straight for the brunch side. I've seen corned beef hash on many brunch menus but never a beef brisket hash ($18.95). I love brisket and I love hashes, so this sounded like it was made for me! I ordered it with poached eggs and chicken gravy instead of hollandaise sauce. It took us ~30 minutes to get our food. I assume the kitchen was backlogged on orders. I freaking loved my dish! The brisket was super tender and fatty and melted in my mouth, and the hash and eggs complemented it super well. I was so happy the entire meal, I couldn't stop smiling. Why isn't this a thing at other brunch place?? This meal made up for the subpar brunch I had the previous day. Also something to keep in mind: the portions are no joke; even though I was starving when I walked in, I couldn't finish the last of the hash. My friend ordered the breakfast sandwich ($14) and initially didn't like it because it was too cheesy. I don't blame him, there was a whole thing of crispy cheddar cheese sticking out of it. We got lucky and didn't have to wait more than a minute to be seated. Very friendly staff who were pretty quick to take beverage and then food orders. Staff turn tables over pretty fast and are really moving. The theme of the place is music and maybe southern themed (?) with a turntable that staff would swap records on for the music in the place, racks of vinyl in corners of the restaurant, and some albums hung on some walls. But this was mixed with them playing bluegrass and related music and wall paper with chickens on it. We agreed the theme might be slightly confused, but The Ruby is certainly unique. This place has a decent focus on alcohol so that might make it a destination for some in the morning The coffee (americano, cappuccino) were fine. We had The Skinny hash and the Veggie Benny on a croissant with fruit. The hash came with a ton of hash browns, but was overall good. The benny was very good, really enjoyed the mix of vegetables with the toasted croissant and the "soft" poached eggs (don't get "medium" if you want more of a classic eggs benedict). The fruit cup had a good mix of fruits (grapefruit, orange, blueberries, strawberries, cantaloupe, and honeydew). Might come back a second time in a future trip, but there are other breakfast/brunch places near by we'll try next. read more

The line up was quick and we got into the brunch spot in victoria within 15 mins. the food was a large portion and extremely delicious. I was excited to eat here as I'm Celiac and was told the owner is also Celiac, but the food was bad. I had a benny with house-made sausage. The sausage was bland, the hollandaise had no flavour, bad caramelized onions, and the gluten free option was supposed to be "biscuit" according to the menu but was actually just a store-bought gf hamburger bun which was a weird texture for an eggs benny. And the side of fruit was clearly a bit past its prime. Mushy strawberries and shrivelled blueberries. My partner said their meal was bland too. My first meal of the day began at The Ruby everyday during this business trip. It was conveniently located next to the hotel I stayed. I learnt after that it's a great little gem well known by the locals for their breakfast and lunch which are all they serve (7am to 3pm). The interior has a retro and industrial vibe. I had different servers everyday. All 3 of them were awesome and very friendly. The first 2 days I chose veggies to go with the Straight Eggs in which the double eggs were cooked perfect to my request. I have never thought of sautéed kale can be on a breakfast menu. What a healthy way to start your day! It was exceptionally delicious. Another day I had the avocado, which was semi sliced and spread out nicely on the plate. The jam for my toast was healthy and not those from a disposable package. It tasted like it might be made in-house which I should've asked. The last day I had this yummy and super healthy smoked salmon on a toasted bagel. The capers were fresh and crispy. Capers have always been my love and these dried ones were very flavourful to go with the salmon on bagel. But they would be too salty on their own. The portion was very filling even after I asked to skip the hash brown. I would go back if I'm in the area again. read more

Very busy place but they turn tables around really fast. We came around noon time and it's pretty packed. The service is great. The ambiance of the place is amazing. This is a great place to come with a group and chill with your friends and be eat. You can get records and play them yourselves. I got a Phillips Pilsner beer and a Buck Ale tasted great and I hope I come back to go to a tour at their brewery. The mimosa was okay. I got the Poutine breakfast and my fiancee Canadian Benney. This place is a don't miss for breakfast. The double caesar really kicked it off to a solid start, it comes kind of spicy so if that's not your thing let them know. I had Mama's fried egg sandwich, they do this melted crusted cheese thing on the sandwich and it absolutely blew my mind. I wish I could have ordered a side of it. The cubed hash browns are even noteworthy for their crunchiness. I decided that I wasn't done there and decided to crush some tacos as well and boy was I right to do so. Some smokiness to the beans mixed with some bright fresh flavour, can't miss of those pickled onions. We even had a super friendly server and the food came out in a timely fashion.
