I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. I love this place so much. When I lived in Victoria, I would come here all the time, but since I've moved to Vancouver, I've only been here once in the last 5-6 months. Buuuut, I finally got to come back here this past weekend and it was like coming home. It had the same comfort-style breakfast foods and the quality was exactly the same, maybe even better (although I could have been biased since I missed this place so much). I usually stick to my usual traditional breakfasts (sausage, egg, bacon, check!), however, whenever I came to Urban Cup, I was trying something different. Whether it's their breakfast or lunch menu, you can't really go wrong. They have a soup + sandwich special that changes daily, and every time it's looked delicious! It's hard to pinpoint what my favourite dish is here. It might be a tie between their hashbrowns (home-style pan fried) or clam chowder. But like I said before, everything on this menu is delicious. What's really nice about UC is that you order and pay right when you walk in, seat yourselves, and the food gets brought out to you. So when you're finished you can take your time and leave whenever, without trying to get your server's attention to pay your bill. It's a bit of a hidden gem really, overshined by the more popular brunch spots like Jam and Blue Fox, but if you're looking to avoid the long lines, pay for a (cheap) amazing breakfast, and don't want to go downtown, then come here. Omgosh we love this spot! Super cute and local! Their coffee is fabulous and free refills. But the show stopper is the food and the employees. Let's start with the people. They are all sooo NICE! And the food is freshly made everyday! The blueberry muffins are mind numbing good!! Loaded with berries! we shared a breakfast veggie sandwich and the hash brown potato wedges were also fantastic! They were crispy and nicely seasoned so they had tons of flavor. And their homemade hot sauce is like a wing sauce. Delicious! read more

Stopped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Service was friendly and atmosphere very cozy. Quite busy, but still snagged a comfortable seat by the window. We were in Victoria for a day and a half and went there 3 times! Great coffee (Cortado is my choice), great food (omelette, potatoes and sour dough toast), and the greatest staff. When we move to Victoria, this will be our 'local'. read more

While in town I ate breakfast here for four consecutive days. Most days I got the same thing: an omelet without the sides of hash browns and toast and a medium roast coffee. Included with each omelet comes is three fillings (meat and veggies, you pick) and one type of cheese. My omelet was great every single day (I make them at home for breakfast every day, so I'm picky). The ingredients were fresh and high quality. I'm a big coffee snob, so the fact I didn't hate the coffee is a good thing. Its good diner coffee. I would highly recommend this place if you are in the area. read more

Busy brunch space with counter service. Good food with eggs being the main ingredient. Had an omelette special which was tasty although seemed like processed cheese. (Turns out it's not) We didn't have you wait as there is a fast turnover. Friendly staff and coffee refills. Still have his and hers bathrooms which isn't necessary is a small place. can't say enough about this great community eatery. food is terrific, staff is incomparable. ambience is cosy. my only critique is the bathrooms DESPERATELY need painting inside and out. i am sure they are clean but they don't promote confidence. My boyfriend and I used to frequent this cafe every Sunday, and we always looked forward to a warm egg breakfast and a cup of hot coffee. Urban Cup was a convenient option for us due to the consistency of food and service quality. Key word: consistency. But this did not last. The past few times that we've been at Urban Cup, we noticed a complete dive in service. A few weeks ago we went and were told that they were "out of ice" (??) for my iced latte, and out of potatoes. We proceeded to wait for an hour for our food, and when it arrived, my boyfriend's food was cold, and my sandwich looked very lonely without the usual side potatoes to keep it company. Worse yet, the people at the table beside us (who arrived after us!!) were served an order of potatoes seconds after our food arrived. We thought maybe this was a one-off, so have been back a couple times. Wait times remain around 45 minutes (not acceptable for a deli-style cafe), staff have taken the ketchup bottle off our table seconds after we went to go get it because there aren't enough to go around, and cold food has been a recurring issue. This place is great. Very close to where I live, has great breakfast/brunch and lunch items, and very reasonable prices. The staff are all very nice. The coffee is great, and I've never had a bad meal. The only gripe is how crazy-crowded it can get (to be fair, like any place around lunchtime) and you will often see one person sitting at a table meant for 4, with nothing but a coffee and usually a laptop and a ton of papers in front of them. Not really fair when I come in with a group of 4 and we're trying to find a place to sit to have some lunch. I have had to walk out a few times because of this. It's not really the fault of the cafe, though, but more the fault of the completely discourteous customer sitting at the table and not even eating during the lunch rush. read more

I went to the Urban Cup on a whim as I was looking for a place for breakfast. I had a decaf vanilla latte and one of their strawberry sour cream muffins. Both were very good. The latte was delicious and was easily one of the best I've had. The muffin had a flavour and texture closer to that of a scone rather than a muffin, but it was light, sweet and, with a little butter, hit the spot perfectly. I will definitely give this place another go. The menu entries and selection under the glass make me very curious of what else they can do. read more

Looking for a place to eat and we saw this restaurant on Yelp so we decided to come. It's really good food! We ordered a Smoke Salmon Benny, Corn Chowder Soup, Chicken & Brie Cheese Panini and a Mango Tea drink. Altogether we spent approximately $29 which is a pretty good deal considering the amount of food we got. Chicken & Brie Cheese Panini is amazing! Highly recommend it! I'm not a sandwich person but this is something that I would order again! Chowder soup is also really good. I order chowder everywhere I go. For the price of the chowder, I would definitely order it again!! Last but not least, Smoke Salmon Benny, is also really tasty. Not too salty, it's just the right amount. Overall, a really good dining experience. The only thing that stops me from giving a five - is because the cashier's attitude was not the best. She was very impatient, didn't have a good attitude and made us feel like she wants to get rid of us quickly. read more

Always a local favourite. Food never disappoints and often surprises. The breakfasts are big enough to share. So very affordable for 2.

My husband and I were STARVING and driving aimlessly when this little spot caught my eye. We had to circle back but it was worth it. I had the quinoa wrap which was a delicious combination flavors, textures, and colors and my husband had the veggie panini with an amazing butternut squash soup. We could easily have shared one order and had food to take home .... Yummy dinner tonight. It's a tight space with only 4 4-tops and 12 2-tops but with great coffee and pastries, an all day breakfast, and a fun, ever-changing special menu it's a great place to stop. read more

In having the place recommended by friends, I will start off by saying that I was not feeling particularly well the first morning I stopped in for breakfast. Saying that, the atmosphere was a little less than what I have come to enjoy in Victoria. It just did not have the character I was expecting. It is a very popular eating and meeting place far from downtown and it could be difficult finding a table. The air was quite stuffy as most coffee places are. They have a chalkboard menu and daily specials with enough choices to satisfy anyone. I had hash browns, which are real potatoes served already with seasoning salt and onion, and a bowl of fresh fruit (fairly decent serving). They serve Fernwood coffee, which is not my favorite roast, but it was fresh. One friend had the omelet special and another the full bacon, eggs, sausages, hash browns and toast breakfast. The former said it was good. The latter said the sausages were especially good. I will visit the cafe in the near future when I am 100% and try a little more of the menu as well as the espresso machine. One great thing was coffee refills were free if staying and when we left one friend got a take-out refill for no charge! read more

Amazing food. My favourite is the bowl of chicken corn chowder with a scone, the eggs Benedict, or the monte cristo sandwich. Yum!

Top choice for breakfast (all day) in the Cedar Hill X Road neighborhood. Highly recommended. This family-run establishment has been here for 10 years and we just discovered it. Where it's located (even on busy Shelbourne) you have to look twice! Well worth searching out. read more

Super busy which shows it is a local favorite. Staff was very friendly. Lots of tables inside and out looks deceiving to how much space they really have.
