My son may have braved his first haircut, but Bethany was the real MVP -- truly amazing for being able to cut hair while my son was wildin! My son started out great, calm in the little car chair, but once Bethany brought out the clippers, it was game over.. he lost his sh*t, lol. I had to hold him after that, it honestly felt like wrangling a gator/an exorcism. But alas, he survived his first haircut. It has taken us 7.5 years to be able to convince our daughter to get her first haircut, and we are SO GRATEFUL to Little Locks and especially to Claire for the wonderful, stress-free experience. First, the appointment was super easy to make online. Second, the shop is absolutely adorable, with the toys, decor, and little car chairs. Third, Claire took her time chatting with Genevieve and putting her at ease. She honored our wishes to cut 10 inches off so that G could donate her hair to Locks of Love. G also got a cute little certificate with a lock of her hair, for her first hair cut! The appointment ended with a beautiful braid with a pretty purple bow. We've taken both our son and daughter here for a little over a year and it's always a lot of fun. The car chairs and TVs inside of the mirrors work like a charm. We've worked with a few different stylists that are great but I particularly like the way Mylisa cuts my son's hair and definitely recommend her. read more

I was not expecting to be bad as it was. We got there and no one greet us. My baby first haircut was hideous. Very bad customer service, he was covered in hair and lady did not offer to clean him up. I won't go back there. And would not recommend for anyone. read more

Came for my son's first haircut. I love how kid friendly this place is. The seats for the kids are a nice touch but my son didn't want to sit there so he sat on Baba's lap while the hairstylist cut his hair. The hairstylist that helped us was so friendly and patient. She listened to what we wanted and was open to everything we said we wanted. My son has curly hair and we wanted it short but not too short so we could still see the curls. I absolutely love his haircut. He's so handsome and I love that his hair is away from his eyes now. read more

Honestly a bit disappointed given the favorable reviews from others. We took two 3 year old girls in for their first haircuts. When we arrived, the staff just kind of looked at us and were not very welcoming. The stylists were nice enough but seemed annoyed if they didn't look in the right direction immediately upon being asked. I did appreciate that the stylist communicated well on how much to trim off. They both just had trims and a part of it was to get a braid and glitter in their hair. Both stylists seemed kind of confused on braiding, one even saying they weren't likely going to do a very good job on it. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on maybe it just being an off day but unfortunately we will not be back. read more

We've been coming to Little Locks in La Jolla for 5 years with our three kids, and it continues to be the only place we trust for haircuts. Claire is absolutely amazing--patient, talented, and so great with kids. She's the only stylist my kids will see, and for good reason! So we went to little locks yesterday and it was his first haircut after 3 years of never cutting it and we came very unprepared on what we wanted, Kim cut his hair but we realized it just wasn't what we were looking for when we got home. Contacted them and they were so nice about it and we went back the next day and Kim again was amazing and did great with our little very good experience and next time we will be more prepared on what we want in a cut lol but all and all great experience thank you read more

Request Joy! This is our fifth time here. The first time wasn't a great experience, not sure who did my sons hair that time but it was so uneven and not something I was happy with. My son is 2 so it's not the easiest but at 18 months it was his first time here and we tried other places before coming back again. We had Joy the second time and she did a great job. She was able to keep him calm and do a great job. I think it helps that it's a very small salon, never been full when we are in so it's a very calm atmosphere. We've been places with a lot going on and it totally distracted our little guy and caused a meltdown. I can't recommend all stylists, but can recommend Joy! Thanks so much Joy for making our little guy look so handsome! Today she also trimmed our 5 month old hair and we are so happy. I LOVE Joy as a stylist and she's so helpful! I have a curly haired boy and a straight haired boy and she listens to my concerns and does their hair accordingly! Highly recommend her! read more

We booked an appointment with Bethany. She did such a great job. Perfect place for your kids 1st haircut and future haircuts. Will be back for sure! Nice car seats for babies to sit on and plenty of distractions to keep them busy while they get their haircut. They also get a little certificate and a piece of their hair for memories. read more

Total hack job on my daughter. She is 5 with a bob and bangs. They did not listen to my basic request for a trim and bangs and gave her what looks like a boy's mullet. It's even poorly cut so the ends of the mullet are different lengths. It will take a year to grow this horrible thing out. Avoid! Expensive! No skill! read more

They give decent haircuts but customer service is pretty tough. We have been here about three times. Each time we have a pre scheduled appointment. Each time other customers with the same appointment arrive later. Somehow they get seated first. Not sure what the secret is... typically wait at least 45 minutes to start a haircut. That being said, the atmosphere is kid friendly so maybe a good place for a first haircut but not great for anything more. read more

My go-to salon for my 4-year-old son with a ton of thick hair. We tried a few kids' salons from the time he was 2, and this was the only place that was able to get his hair cut efficiently without us having to hold him. He loves playing with toys while he waits, the cars to sit in, watching TV while his hair is being cut, and his hair always looks great when he's done! read more

My son rarely asks for haircuts. He has gorgeous long hair that matches his dad's and wants to keep the length. Recently though, he asked for a trim and we came to Melissa at the salon. She's so great with kids! Really able to connect with my son well and make him feel like a Rockstar. The trim was great and quick and we were in and out in no time. Been here about six times with my almost four-year-old, and usually it's great. But today we had a gal named Rita and while she was kind, she should not be cutting kids hair. Aggressive with the clippers, aggressive with the scissors, went too short on the cut... and then to top it off, blasted my son in the face with a full speed hot hair dryer without warning. I could tell he was uncomfortable from the get go, but am not the sort of parent to spare my kids any and all discomfort, so I let it go until the hair dryer came out. At that point I did jump in and of course my son started bawling. Rita seemed surprised at this. This review should not come as news to Rita or the salon, as I shared thoughts with both of them in person. I'm just surprised that this woman is cutting kids hair. Again, she was plenty kind, but totally oblivious to his discomfort. Five stars for the other cuts we've had here, one for today's! Gonna start taking the kid to see my barber Sun, over by windansea. He did his first cut and was sensitive and precise... just like he always is with me! read more

Scheduled an appointment and when we got there (on time) there was a crowd of angry costumers who haven't been helped and with appointments backed up an hour. Poor workers since they said the receptionist was out but she didn't know how to handle the computer (seems everyone should know). One customer even walked out without paying for merchandise since she was waiting too long and needed to be somewhere. I watched the cuts before me and was unfortunately not impressed. My family turned around and left. Also, they don't have a ramp in the front which seems strange for families with strollers. read more

We have come here twice so far with our 2 year and have had great experiences. It is a kid's dream here. They can choose from one of the many cars to sit in, they have tv screens on the mirrors, and a ton of toys for distraction. We have had Sarah both times and I highly recommend her. She is very patient and does a great job. I was so nervous the first time we went but he did so well there and with Sarah that we will keep coming back to her. I think Marisol in Solana Beach does a great job. She's cut my sons hair now three times and he has natural waves. We even asked for her to keep it lengthier, a little curly in the back and she has been very open to suggestions.

She was professional, precise, patient, fast, kind, and my braids are tight, clean, and do not hurt. Salon was adorable, clean and had friendly welcoming staff. So happy I drove 4hrs to the salon and home to get this service by an experienced loctician and braided. Ill be back, I already booked my next 2 reinstalls!

Purchased a sweatshirt for $45 here. Dripped something on it and treated/washed it (like with any…read moreother piece of clothing) and the color completely came out of the sweatshirt. I called and Dave was rude and condescending. Told me it was because of the way the sweatshirt is dyed. Says all of his clothing of this type has stains. I said it should come with a warning. He told me it was the first time in 40 years he's had to have this conversation. So rude. It's the first time in near 50 years I've had to try to justify why I am unhappy about the sweatshirt. Of course no receipt - wore it out the door as it was raining. Resolution was keep it in a bag and bring it back next time I'm in San Diego or mail it for a new one with prepaid packaging to mail it back. If you know you are selling items that commonly do this, warn the customer, put up signing or remove the item from your store!
